  1. Why is Corrin leading the army when for half the game you get the Crown Prince (Xander in Conquest) or Uncrowned King (Ryoma in Birthright)?

Probably because Corrin's so dang nice that they can somehow persuade people to follow them and do what they say, kind of like how most FE protagonists can lead armies despite not knowing about any tactics or strategy. Not to mention that Corrin is already leading the army for the first half of the game so Ryoma and Xander just tag along. Also they're the main character, but that already gives special privileges to every protagonist in every sort of medium anyway.

Why does Garon care about making Corrin cry anyway?

Garon wants to crush Corrin's spirit so Anankos can use him as a vessel.

To be honest, the whole fluff behind the Yato is never really explained that well, nor is the Rainbow Sage.

Well, Corrin's choice between Nohr and Hoshido does decide the fate of two/three kingdoms so it's not like the Yato's choosing of Corrin was unwarranted.

  2. Anankos probably has more human slaves and servants that we don't see, since it would be weird for him to keep just one human (Anthony) around for no apparent reason. They would need a place to stay after the old Valla was sealed away, thus justifying the formation of New Valla. It is also possible that there were Vallite refugees who fled before Anankos took over who would like to return to their former kingdom, in addition to the 'any Nohrians or Hoshidans who want a new start' thing. There are definitely people attending Corrin's coronation, so this seems likely.

Anyway, Azura and Corrin probably wouldn't want their homeland's culture and traditions to be forgotten and disappear due to Anankos. Xander and Ryoma probably agreed and, with Valla being between Hoshido and Nohr, it could also serve as neutral territory and a mediator for the two kingdoms to sort out their issues.

  3. [spoiler=The First Dragons: where did they come from, and where did they go?]

-No one is sure how or when the First Dragons came to the continent. Some scholars believe that they came through the Dragon's Gate, while others believe that they predated humanity.

-While initially living together in an uneasy peace, war would eventually break out between the twelve strongest dragons for dominance. They spilt into two main factions, led by the Dawn Dragon and the Dusk Dragon (henceforth referred to as 'Dawn' and 'Dusk'). Most dragons joined these factions, while others, like Anankos, would remain neutral. Amongst others, the Wind and Flame Dragons joined the Dawn Dragon while the Ice Dragon joined the Dusk Dragon.

-At this time, most humans lived in small tribes. Kitsune and Wolfskin also existed, but in smaller numbers. Due to the comparatively small number of dragons, Dawn and Dusk decided to enlist the help of these humans in their conflict with each other. They each bestowed their blood upon a family of humans, giving them power in exchange for loyalty. They also encouraged their bloodbonded allies/minions/pawns to gather followers from nearby tribes with their new powers. These families are the progenitors of the Hoshidan and Nohrian royal families, and they and their followers would later establish the kingdoms of Hoshido and Nohr.

-Following the example of their leaders, the Ice, Wind, and Flame Dragons would also each bestow their blood upon a group of humans. While these groups lacked the ability to use Dragon Veins, they did gain elemental powers.

-Wanting to make their minions stronger, Dusk and Dawn each asked the Rainbow Sage, who remained neutral, to create two weapons for their humans. He obliged, creating the Raijinto and Fujin Yumi for the Hoshidan progenitors, and for the Nohrian progenitors Siegfried and Brynhildr. He made it so the weapons required a worthy wielder and the respective dragon's blood to function.

-Amongst the neutral dragons was the dragon of harmony, who opposed the war entirely and gathered a group of humans, giving the leaders its blood, to help preach peace. As mentioned previously, these people would found Izumo.

-Also among the neutral dragons was the Requiem Dragon, whom is currently seen by both Hoshido and Nohr as a goddess of death (whether or not she actually had domain over death is unclear). She didn't give her blood to any humans, and is said to have lurked in what is currently known as the Woods of the Forlorn.

-Anankos always opposed the conflict and especially dragging humans into it. Dawn and Dusk both wanted him on their side for his power and wisdom, but he refused to join either side. In order to help humanity overthrow their dragon masters, Anankos requested that the Rainbow Sage create the Yato so that humans would be able to kill the dragons if necessary. Anankos also hoped that humans from both sides would unite to forge their own fate, so the Yato requires the four other divine weapons to reach its full power.

-In order to cripple the fighting force of both factions, Anankos used his Dragon Vein powers to create the Bottomless Canyon to separate the warring humans. This marked him as an enemy to most of the other dragons, so Anankos, fearing for their safety, created a portal to another dimension within the Bottomless Canyon and sent his humans through it. He created this dimension by forcibly merging several Deeprealms, consequently resulting in unusual geography such as floating islands. This land would be named Valla by its new inhabitants, and Anankos would take the Yato with him to Valla so no other dragon could get their claws on it. He would only bestow his blood upon Cadros after he predicted his decent into insanity and Valla was founded.

-Irritated that their main fighting forces were crippled by Anankos, Dusk and Dawn eventually met in battle personally and ended up killing each other. The deaths of the two main dragons resulted in the war's end.

-No longer under the command of the First Dragons, the humans would settle down under the leadership of the bloodbonded humans, resulting in the formation of Nohr and Hoshido. Separated by Bottomless Canyon, the two kingdoms would develop very different cultures. Most other countries would form sometime later.

-Over the next few hundred years, the remaining dragons realized that they were slowly going insane due to their power. To avoid this fate they cast off their bodies and became spirits, with the exception of the human-loving Anankos and the Rainbow Sage.

-Anankos's dragon form resembled Corrin's before his corruption.

-After the war, the Rainbow Sage went into hiding to wait for the day when he could make up for his sin. Many people sought him for guidance, though most didn't receive it. These people would settle down and form Notre Sagesse.

    [spoiler=Even more invisible things]

-Anyone who was unlucky enough to stumble into the Bottomless Canyon was strongly discouraged from leaving Valla. If they really wanted to leave they had their memories of Valla erased, but most people chose to stay and settle down in the invisible kingdom.

-Arete and Mikoto are actually half-sisters, with the same father (from whom they get their dragon blood) but different mothers. Arete is the daughter of the king and his (Vallite) queen, while Mikoto is the result of an affair between the king and a Hoshidan 'immigrant'. Mikoto was unaware of this fact until Arete found her and told her the truth, and this knowledge would be given to the rest of the kingdom sometime later. Mikoto would be allowed to live in the castle with her father and sister, and was officially recognized as a princess, following her mother's death. When they were younger, Arete, who was always fond of her sister, would frequently sneak out of the castle to play with Mikoto, and she is rather overprotective of her younger sister.

-Arete's first husband and Azura's father was named Pelagios, and as mentioned previously he was a priest of Anankos. He had deep black hair and minty green eyes, and was quite social and good with words (though naturally this didn't help him with Anankos...), so Arete had him handle relations with the citizenry of Valla and the Silent Dragon while she did the actual ruling. Arete herself was stoic and socially withdrawn, much like her daughter, though this didn't stop Pelagios from falling in love with her when they were young. He often tried increasingly drastic measures to win her heart and while they eventually married, the Vallite citizens couldn't decide if Arete married him for convenience or if she eventually returned his affections.

-Anankos kept the Yato with him in Valla so someone could defeat him in the event that he went insane. After the birth of his child and regaining his memories, Human!Anankos/Hydros went out and managed to find it. Suspecting that Corrin might one day be able to use it, he gave the sword to Mikoto and told her to bring it with her to Hoshido. She did so, and Sumeragi helped her hide it until the day that Corrin would be able to use it.

-Arete and Azura were going to Hoshido with Mikoto and Corrin, but complications in the teleportation process resulted in them ending up in Nohr instead. Arete decided to stay due to gaining an appreciation for Nohr's people, and because fleeing to Hoshido would leave them vulnerable to Anankos's minions.

-While Odin, Laslow, and Selena were being sent to Nohr, Dragon!Anankos managed to seal away their memories of him and Valla. Thus, they remember that they have to help Corrin do something but not exactly what.

-Garon serves as Anankos's familiar, and they have a relationship that is different from Anankos's other minions. This relationship is achieved by Anankos splitting off a portion of his soul and having it merge with Garon (Arete's attempts to stop this merge resulted in her death). Besides warping his appearance due to extended corruption, this connection allows Garon to telepathically communicate with Anankos and tap into his power, though Anankos cannot reclaim the power that Garon gains easily. He can, however, teleport Garon directly to him. This merge also results in Garon being brainwashed into serving Anankos's will, though he does not know that he is actually brainwashed until moments before his death in Birthright. Anankos would later try something similar to Takumi and Gunter.

-Extended exposure to Anankos's influence results in one's hair turning white and eyes turning red (see Garon and Takumi). Corrin also possesses these traits (though their hair is more platinum blond...) due to being Anankos's offspring, while Lilith doesn't due to her unnatural birth.

-After Anankos gave a portion of his power to Garon, Hydros managed to take advantage and seal the weakened Anankos within Castle Gyges, though this took a large portion of his own power. At this time, Anankos created Lilith to act on his behalf.

-After being sealed away, Anankos's remaining power was condensed into a 'core' that is held in the mouth of his dragon body. He began to wear a mask of his human form to protect this core. Anankos is only able to reenter his human form from his dragon form after being unsealed for some time. This also causes his 'good' personality to manifest in a twisted way.

[spoiler=Even more miscellaneous (but also invisible) things]

-Saizo IV and Hana's father were Sumeragi's retainers. Consorts of the current ruler do not have retainers, so Ikona did not have any, though she did have Mikoto has a handmaiden (much to Ikona's dismay). Haitaka was a subordinate of Ikona's family and thus shares most of their racist views.

-Sumeragi brought Ryoma and Corrin with him to his meeting with Garon in order to demonstrate how negotiations between kingdoms operate. Likewise, Saizo IV brought Kaze with him to demonstrate his duties as a ninja. Saizo V did not go as he was undergoing training at the time.

-Shortly after Corrin's kidnapping, Garon told Xander of Corrin's Hoshidan origins so that the truth would not die with him if anything happened to Garon. Camilla, Leo, and Elise assumed that Corrin was the child of one of Garon's concubines until Garon told them the truth shortly after Corrin returned to Hoshido. Leo and Camilla might have realized that Corrin wasn't their true sibling earlier, however.

-Garon's original plan was for Ganglari to bring Corrin to Valla so Anankos could deposit him in Hoshido. Though Lilith managed to save Corrin instead, Garon's plan was still largely successful.

-Ganglari also served as a beacon for Anankos's forces. Without it, Anankos would be unable to send his forces into Hoshido due to Mikoto's barrier.

-Mikoto's plan following Corrin's return was to unite Nohr and Hoshido against Anankos, hopefully with the fully powered Yato on their side. Due to Garon's possession this probably would't have worked.

-Corrin wears the dragonstone that Azura gave them on a necklace.

-Outside of the 'main' royal line (generally carried by the oldest child, currently Ryoma and Xander), the ability to use Dragon Veins endures for a few more generations before disappearing. That is, the descendants of Camilla, Hinoka, Leo, Takumi, Elise, and Sakura will eventually lose the ability.

-It is customary for Hoshidan royals (Ryoma, Hinoka, Sakura, Azura) to learn how to ride pegasi and Nohrian royals (Xander, Camilla, Elise) to learn how to ride wyverns for moving over long distances. Leo and Takumi are weird exceptions, though Takumi can promote to a Kinshi rider.

-Contrary to what some people might believe, Hinoka doesn't mind being flat chested (they'd probably get in the way during training anyway). She will, however, be annoyed if other girls (usually Camilla) go out of their way to flaunt their 'assets'.

-People in the hot spring are allowed to wear swimsuits or go naked, but for the sake of the game's rating everyone in-game wears swimsuits. Or maybe it's because of Corrin's odd habit of entering the hot spring at the wrong time...

-In addition to sharing similar backgrounds and interests, Corrin and Azura also bond over their mutual distaste for footwear. Some members of the army believe that they both have foot fetishes, but studies on the matter have proven inconclusive.

If I do write any fanfics, at least I won't lack any background material...

  4. Also, I know Garon does have a cut in, but I don't know how many quotes he has, or if any other bosses have crit quotes.

If someone could compile that info, I could do it for bosses, if it's wanted.

Just want some input from you guys on what you want.

    Nina will be tomorrow.

There are four bosses with critical cut-ins, but they only have one quote each. They are (Revelation spoilers):

    Garon: "DIE!"

    Arete: "I'm sorry..."

    Mikoto: "Lay down your weapons!"

    Sumeragi: "This is the end!"

You can see them all here.

  5. I'm sure we all know (well, I hope we do) that Nohr and Hoshido are based on medieval Europe and Japan, but how much influence did these cultures have on the two kingdoms, really? Fortunately, there is an answer!

Since I have nothing better to do, I felt the need to share these videos with you, anonymous reader, because knowledge is something to be shared, yeah? Who knows, you just might learn something new! In addition, both videos each feature a special guest, though neither of them are Dante or Knuckles.

Firstly, this video focuses on the inspiration for Hoshido.

    [spoiler=For Hoshido!]

The second one, naturally, focuses on the inspiration for Nohr.

    [spoiler=For Nohr!]

Note that I didn't have anything to do with the making of these videos; I just felt that they were worth sharing. If you liked what you saw and would like more, you might be interested in visiting Kitsune Hawk's YouTube channel.

There's also another video focusing on the secret cow invisible level, but there's a limit of two videos per post so I'll have to post it later.

Sorry if you were expecting me to share my vast knowledge with you, instead you'll have to settle for letting Kitsune Hawk educate you instead.

  6. We're not done yet!

(Note: for convenience, this and future posts will refer to Corrin as male)

    General Characters/World Stuff:

-Corrin never wears shoes because he never needed to in the Northern Fortress, since he was never allowed to go outside. When it was time for Corrin to train and leave the fortress, he still refused to wear shoes despite Xander and Gunter's best efforts to change his mind (Camilla, on the other hand, found this quirk endearing). Eventually, they gave in and let him wear shoeless armor.

-Azura always liked to go barefoot for comfort, though Arete made her wear shoes outside while they were in Nohr. After being kidnapped by Hoshido, Azura would continue to wear shoes most of the time, much to her dismay. Azura would take off her shoes and go barefoot whenever she practiced her dancing, but would always end up 'accidentally' losing them. After the eighth pair of lost shoes, Mikoto would give in and let her go barefoot all the time.

-Azura bears a scar on the left side of her waist that was given to her by a group of older noble children (this is mentioned in her supports with Saizo, but the location of the scar is never mentioned). When she learned of this, Arete tried to have Garon find and punish the ones responsible, but he refused because he didn't want to strain his relations with the nobility.

-Besides liking scary stories, Azura is also a theater geek. The reason that Shigure is so theatrical is because Azura exposed him to her favorite works from a young age.

-Mikoto has the ability to see visions of the future in her dreams (though this is suggested to be canon). Ordinarily she would have nightmares involving Sumeragi's death and Corrin's kidnapping, but on one occasion she would instead have a nightmare about a princess suffering in Nohr. She wouldn't understand what this meant immediately, but would later realize that the dream was about Azura after she was brought to Hoshido. Mikoto was conflicted on the idea of returning her to Nohr in exchange for Corrin, but Garon's refusal to trade meant she didn't have to decide (Garon felt that Corrin would be a more valuable pawn than Azura). Mikoto would thus treat Azura like her daughter and would try to have other Hoshidans accept her.

[spoiler=Revelation]Mikoto's prophetic abilities is actually due to her being a royal of Valla, as Anankos has a similar ability. This ability is extremely rare amongst her family. Of course, Azura being Mikoto's niece probably supported Mikoto's decision to raise her as a daughter.

-Hoshido wasn't planning on kidnapping any Nohrian royal in particular. When Yukimura went to Shura to discuss their plan, Shura felt that Azura would be the easiest target since he was aware of how she was treated by the guards and populace. He also probably felt sorry for her and thought that bringing her to Hoshido was for the best.

-Takumi had a crush on Azura when they were younger despite simultaneously distrusting/not liking her. He ends up outgrowing it by the time they're adults, unless they end up getting married.

-Hinoka's determination to rescue Corrin from Nohr led to her neglecting her younger siblings. As a result, Takumi and Sakura have trouble finding common ground with her.

-Corrin (but not the player) learned that he and the other Hoshidan royals had different mothers between chapters 4 and 5.

-Silas is initially hostile toward Azura in their supports because he was secretly jealous of her relationship with Corrin. On the other hand, that same relationship is why Jakob is kinder to her than most other people.

-Nohr and Hoshido previously spoke different languages; Nohr spoke Latin while Hoshido spoke Japanese. At some point, English (or whatever language you're reading, or maybe Nohr just decided to learn Japanese) was created to make communication between the kingdoms easier. Most educated children in both kingdoms still learn their original languages.

-Fates!Anna is younger than Awakening!Anna. Despite this, the former is less greedy and more mature than the latter.

-Whenever Felicia/Jakob/Izana/Yukimura/Flora/Fuga desired to help Corrin on his quest, Lilith would sense their desire and bring them to Corrin's castle.

Sponge Emblem (not really my headcanon, though):

After all that, I suppose that I'll save the First Dragons for another time so I can let my ideas develop into even better ideas! Or something like that...

  7. The original post has now been updated with polls for the second generation characters! Like the first generation, these polls come in three flavors:

Shared Children (female Kana, male Kana, Shigure, Dwyer, Sophie, Midori)

Hoshidan Children (Shiro, Kiragi, Asugi, Selkie, Hisame, Mitama, Caeldori, Rhajat)

Nohrian Children (Siegbert, Forrest, Ignatius, Velouria, Percy, Ophelia, Soleil, Nina)

Once again, happy polling! I'll share the results once I get a significant number of votes.

  8. I'm don't think anything needs to be changed significantly, but...

-Give the older sisters and Azura unique weapons. Azura's would be Revelation-exclusive.

    [spoiler=Revelation spoilers]

-Not have Scarlet, Izana, and Yukimura be unplayable story characters in Revelation and allow Gunter to have supports in Revelation. It sort of ruins the idea of Revelation being the "golden fanservice route". They could just make Yukimura having more requirements for recruitment and Izana's death is rather lame. Gunter gets freed from Anankos's control after Ch. 26 and should be able to support; they could rewrite the supports and therefore create Revelation-exclusive supports for Gunter. There's also the amount of shiptease on Scarlet and Ryoma.

    -This.

-Allow male Corrin to be able to marry any first generation female unit without being penalized by missing out on a kid. The current condition likely irked a lot of Camilla and Azura fans. Female Corrin has no such problem as long as Azura gets a husband to marry.

    -This too.

-Related to the above, let Flora (for Conquest and Revelation) and Scarlet (for Birthright) marry freely instead of only being able to marry Corrin.

-Make Lilith playable and give her more plot importance. If Flora and Scarlet need to remain Corrinsexual for whatever reason, then she can marry freely so one can get all the kids.

-Give everyone ages. It would save us some time thinking and arguing about it...

Who revealed that again, i think it was Arete.

It was Mikoto. Though technically, she only mentioned that Arete is her sister and that she is Vallite royalty, and the game never actually acknowledges that Corrin and Azura are related.

  9. Ready for round two?

Tribes and other countries: how do they work?

-The Flame, Ice, and Wind Tribes are all devoted to the worship of a particular dragon, much like Nohr and Hoshido. The Beast Tribes do not worship any dragon in particular.

-Leadership of the tribes is generally given to the current chief's eldest child, but the chief may appoint a successor among the members of the tribe if they have no children or their children are unsuited to lead.

-The Ice Tribe worships the Frost Dragon, and believe that their ability to manipulate ice is a gift from it. The dragon presumably did not give enough blood to let them use Dragon Veins, however.

-The Flame Tribe worships the Flame Dragon (pretty self explanatory), which is said to resemble a phoenix. The Flame Tribe prefers to stay isolated, so most people do not know where it is located.

-Last but not least, the Wind Tribe worships the Zephyr Dragon. It is said that this dragon grants the current chief the ability to control the wind.

-The rulers of Izumo (including Izana) have the blood of a dragon that advocated peace and neutrality during the times of the First Dragons. The inhabitants of Izumo continue to follow this philosophy to this day.

-Mokushu was founded by a group of ninja clans that splintered off from Hoshido due to disagreements with the royal family at the time. Kohga was formed under similar circumstances.

-Nestra, while originally being controlled by Nohr, is currently a sovereign state. Despite being largely self-governing, Nohr and its royalty still holds some measure of control over it.

-The Great Wall of Suzanoh was named after the Hoshidan king that built it.

    Miscellaneous Character Facts:

-Hana and Kaze are short for Kazahana and Suzukaze, respectively. Likewise, Benny is short for Benoit. People kept misspelling Tsubaki's name as "Subaki" in the shared language until one day he just decided to embrace it.

-In contrast to Hoshidan nobles, Nohrian nobles generally do not like to get their hands dirty and are less loyal to the royalty. This is why most playable Hoshidans are nobles (with some exceptions, like Oboro) while most playable Nohrians aren't (with Peri and Silas as exceptions).

-It is customary for royals to select two retainers (though this is canon). These retainers serve as bodyguards and attendants to their liege, in addition to completing missions on their behalf. As they work directly under royalty, they outrank most normal soldiers. Retainers are usually chosen for their fighting prowess and loyalty to their liege, but the exact reason varies from person to person.

-Out of the royals at the beginning of the game, Corrin, Azura, and Garon lack retainers. Corrin's reason is self-explanatory, but Azura has none due to her distant and solitary attitude in addition to the stigma that comes with being a Nohrian princess, while Garon has none due to his distrusting nature (and not wanting anyone to know that he is possessed).

-Yukimura and Iago serve as advisors to their respective rulers, so they are not technically retainers, though Yukimura is sometimes considered one despite not having the duties of a typical retainer.

-Ikona's family has never approved of Azura's acceptance into Hoshido, and they have made several attempts on her life in the past.

-The reason that Xander, Camilla, and Leo are initially promoted while Hinoka and Takumi aren't is because Garon frequently sends them on missions. Ryoma is promoted because he is heir to Hoshido's throne, while Elise is unpromoted because Garon hasn't sent her on any missions yet.

    More Revelation/Hidden Truths stuff:

-Azura becomes Corrin's advisor after reestablishing Valla, much like Yukimura and Iago. This is true even if she is his wife and queen.

-Whenever Azura had a performance, Corrin would accompany her on the piano.

-The fact that Corrin is not Sumeragi's biological child was a closely kept secret. Originally only Sumeragi and Mikoto knew (well, and Arete), but Sumeragi told Ryoma the truth shortly before his death.

-When she first met the amnesic Anankos, Mikoto named him Hydros.

-Anankos/Hydros asked for Arete's blessing before acting on his feelings for Mikoto. Ordinarily Arete would have refused his request, but she made a special exception because of the insane dragon running around at the time, and she wanted her sister to be happy for the time being.

-Arete was never made aware of the fact that her sister's lover was actually Anankos's human form. This is because Mikoto thought that Arete would probably try to kill him if she knew the truth.

-Corrin inherited their father's red eyes and pointed ears (he looks like this). Lilith has yellow eyes instead due to the unique circumstances behind her birth, though she did inherit her father's hair color.

-When Anankos granted the Vallite royal family his blood, he also blessed them with perfect feet. This is why Corrin and Azura's feet are always soft and clean despite them being barefoot all the time. Arete, Mikoto and Shigure also have perfect feet, but prefer to wear shoes anyway.

-The Rainbow Sage and Old Hubba are old friends, so Hubba allows the Sage to use his Hubba Tester whenever he wants.

-Azura has a nice butt, but she is embarrassed by this fact and prefers to avoid drawing attention to the offending area. Or is that canon...?

Maybe I really should write a book of my headcanon? Next time I'll probably discuss the lives and times of the First Dragons.

  10. I split this into several different categories for length and spoilers. I think that remaining faithful to canon is important.

The royals of Hoshido and Nohr and their issues:

-When Garon kidnapped Corrin, he passed them off as the child as one of his concubines. No one would question this because some of his long lost children popped up all the time during the Waifu Wars of old.

-Sumeragi's marriage to Ikona was arranged by their parents. Ikona came from an old noble family that is a distant relation to the main royal family. The members of this family are generally elitist and unpleasant by most standards, and Ikona was no exception, generally acting cold and distant to pretty much everyone. She's also a redhead, and her daughters got their hair colors from her. Sumeragi originally met (and fell in love with) Mikoto a year or so before Corrin was born. While Sumeragi liked Ikona as a person, he was not in love with her and felt their marriage was empty. They ended up having four children anyway because Sumeragi wanted children. Hinoka in particular was attached to her, which is why she initially had trouble accepting Mikoto as her mother.

-When Mikoto first showed up in Hoshido with Sumeragi's child in tow, Ikona was initially outraged that Sumeragi cheated on her, but eventually decided to forgive him as long he didn't do it again (at least she didn't have to marry a certain Nohrian king instead). She mostly tolerated Mikoto and Corrin living with her family in the castle as long as they didn't bother her. While she would eventually come to like Mikoto as a friend, she would never admit it. She would end up falling ill and dying shortly after giving birth to Sakura.

-As for the Nohrian side, Garon's marriage to Katerina was also arranged. He loved her, as he did most women, though they were married for a relatively short time before her untimely death. His love for her didn't stop him from having a dozen concubines, though. The reason for Garon's promiscuity is that his father, the previous king, was strict about what he did, so when Garon became king himself he kind of went overboard.

-Speaking of Garon, he met (and quickly fell in love with) Arete shortly after Katerina's death. Though he was quick to fall for her, it took Arete some time before she decided to marry him. While she wasn't quite in love with him, she agreed in part to protect her and Azura from enemies from abroad...

    Revelation and invisible things:

-The kingdom of Valla was created by Anankos to protect his favored people from the warring kingdoms of Nohr and Hoshido. He felt that it was inadequate for a dragon to rule over humans, so he made his friend Cadros king instead.

-Anankos originally created the anti-Valla curse in order to prevent the information that Valla was housing an unstable and potentially dangerous dragon from leaking into Hoshido and Nohr, though the royal families of said kingdoms were kept aware of Valla's existence. Conveniently, it also served to help protect the dragon's plans once he became evil and crazy. The curse was broken upon Anankos's death, which is why Corrin is able to reestablish Valla without mass disappearances among the population.

-Among the Vallite royal family, the combination of cyan hair and gold eyes indicates that one can use the power of the song that Anankos created. Anankos made it this way so he could easily tell who inherited his gift.

-Aside from the royal family, Valla has no nobility. This is because Anankos felt that nobles only caused conflict and resentment.

-Azura's father was from a family of priests that served Anankos. His sympathy for the Silent Dragon is one of the reasons that Arete married him, as he was already friendly with Anankos for several years at that point. He was killed by the dragon while Arete was still pregnant with their daughter.

-After going insane and conquering Valla, Anankos kept several towns filled with humans around so he could restock on soldiers and servants if necessary. The inhabitants of these towns would later become the first citizens of Corrin's resurrected Valla, along with those who managed to flee Valla as Anankos was taking over.

-Sumeragi and Garon were aware of Valla's existence (as most Hoshidan and Nohrian royals were), but they didn't know that Arete and Mikoto were originally from there.

-Most Vallites have Greek inspired names. Mikoto is an exception because her parents liked the name.

-While Arete and Mikoto would eventually become aware of the fact that they became queens of Nohr and Hoshido, respectively, sour relations between the kingdoms meant that they couldn't reunite with each other.

-After marrying Garon, Arete tried to bring him to the Bottomless Canyon to explain Valla's insane dragon problem to him. Around this time, Anankos was already influencing Garon's mind by exploiting his negative feelings following the Waifu/Concubine Wars. Arete realized this and attempted to purify him with her song, but the paranoid Garon misinterpreted this as an attempt on his life and fatally wounded her before she could. This act was the last straw for the "real" Garon and he succumbed to Anankos's influence. The now possessed/brainwashed Garon left to "get help" while Azura stumbled upon her dying mother. She explained everything she could about Valla (since she was dying anyway) and gave Azura her pendant before perishing. Garon would later blame Arete's murder on one of his concubines.

-Iago is motivated entirely by self-preservation and a desire for power. He's the kind of person who would kiss up to the one with the most power. He doesn't think much of the fact that Garon randomly decided to worship Anankos instead of the Dusk Dragon one day, but he goes along with it anyway to stay in Garon's good graces. He does not know that Garon is actually being possessed by Anankos, and if he did he would probably try to work with the heroes against him (because working with an omnicidal dragon isn't good for survival).

-After possessing Garon, Anankos granted him a generous portion of his power. This had the side effect of deteriorating him into a slime form, but he can use magic to hide this. He cannot hide it completely, though, which is why Garon has gray skin.

-While using Garon as his main enforcer, Anankos uses Sumeragi to do things that Garon is unable to (like killing Mikoto) and Arete to protect Valla from those that might oppose him.

-Izana faked his death in order to persuade Takumi to help Corrin on his quest. When Takumi found out after the war, he chased him for an hour before deciding that what Izana did was probably for the best. He remained wary whenever he visited Izumo though.

-After killing Anankos, Corrin and co. remained in Valla for a short time in order to gather survivors and items that they wanted to preserve for the new Valla. After returning to the "main" continent, Azura sealed the entrance from the Bottomless Canyon.

-Following this (and assuming that Corrin and Azura get together), the progression of the events that follow is Ryoma's/Xander's coronation-> Corrin's coronation-> Corrin and Azura's wedding. The couple would spend their honeymoon in Cyrkensia, where Azura would perform at the rebuilt Opera House. Performing there was always a secret dream of hers.

-Marriage between cousins isn't uncommon among royalty, which is why nobody cares that Corrin and Azura are cousins if they are married.

-After their marriage, Corrin and Azura would occasionally take romantic getaways to the lake where they first met. Consequently, Shigure is a lake baby. They aren't really sure if they should tell him this. Shigure received his name because it was drizzling the day he was born.

    Hidden Truths, Hidden Headcanons:

-After his demise, Anankos's spirit visited the Awakening trio to thank them and upgrade their translocation crystal so that they could travel between Ylisse and Nohr/Hoshido whenever they wished.

-Rather than fathering Lilith in a "traditional" sense, Anankos used his blood to create her in the same way that Bond Units are created. He created her so that she could act as a servant and soldier.

-Lilith cannot transform into a dragon normally. This ability was gifted to her by the astral dragons when she went to them for help.

-After the events of Revelation, Lilith would continue to help Corrin as they ruled Valla. She would never tell Corrin of their relationship, however.

If I had known that my headcanon would be so long, I would have written a book...

    Also #PraiseSaizo I guess.

  11. You know, I wonder how a joke about Corrin's underwear somehow turned into a discussion of double standards between Corrin's genders, female Corrin's perspective among fans, and finally Leo and Takumi's issues and the ethics of shipping Corrin with them. And also Ace Attorney.

I think I've said it before, but it's a case of these people wanting to date the 'troubled, but cute' kind of person but without having to put in any of the monumental time, effort and patience it would take to make the relationship work. In fictionland, guys like Takumi can be cured with nothing but true love (or, depending on what type of fiction you're reading, some good 'ol sexin'), but in reality someone like Takumi would need years of therapy and Buddha-like levels of patience, with no actual guarantee that he'll get better or treat you differently. It doesn't help that the game also kind of supports this, since he goes from literally telling you to disappear in Chapter 5 to 'eh, I guess you're okay' in Chapter 11.

This is true, but odd coming from someone who shamelessly ships Corrin with a certain blue-haired, 'troubled but cute' songstress.

  12. This doesn't have anything to do with gameplay or the plot, but it's something I've been curious about nonetheless.

I've heard that Azura's Japanese roster entry says that she has the worst bedhead in the army (the English version instead says that the poor girl is a restless sleeper). But in the English version, Silas is the one with the worst bedhead. Was Silas's "fun fact" different in the Japanese version, or am I just misinformed here?

  13. Since the shared characters poll has over 100 votes now, I'll go ahead and post the results for that. Due to corporate greed only the results of the first 100 votes are shown, but I might try to show the rest at a later date.

    Interesting things to note:

-Male Corrin's most popular option is the barefoot water dancer Azura with 24 votes, while the flirty former thief Niles is in second with 16 and the ice maid princess Flora is in a close third with 14. Those three are the only characters with votes in the double digits, and them, Felicia, and Oboro are the only options with more than three votes (Oboro didn't get her fourth until after I asked how many characters had more than three votes).

-Female Corrin's votes are more spread out than her male counterpart's (namely, more than five options have more than three votes), but Silas is in first with 13 while Kaze is in second with 9. Jakob, Xander, Laslow, Niles, and Rhajat are tied for third with six votes each.

-Azura's most popular option is her fellow star-crossed royal Corrin, while Kaze is second and Laslow is third.

-Felicia's most popular options are Leo, Jakob, and Corrin.

-Jakob's most popular option is Azura, while Corrin, Felicia, and Mozu are in a three way tie for third.

-Kaze's most popular option is Azura (That girl is popular with the men, isn't she? It's the feet, probably), with Mozu in a close second.

-Silas's most popular option is his childhood friend Corrin, while Mozu is at a close second (again) and Hinoka is in third.

-Last but not least, Mozu has Kaze and Silas being tied for first.

Are these results surprising, or did you see them coming from a mile away? Share your thoughts! I'll get to the results of the other polls later, and be sure to vote in them if you haven't already!

  14. Personally speaking, I'm the one who made these pairing polls in the first place, so I think that I have the full authority to declare that Corrin/Azura is canon.

Speaking of which, out of 92 voters, only four of male Corrin's potential suitors got more than three votes. Does anyone want to guess who they are?

  15. I'll probably end up giving some insight into the results when there are around 100 votes for each poll. Right now there are around 80 for the shared characters and 40-50 for the rest. Several patterns have already shown up but I still want more votes to be more accurate.

I would also appreciate it if someone shared the polls on reddit or something...

No gay bandit threesome option for the Ducks? I can't imagine them agreeing to separate like that.

I hindsight I probably should've added something like that, but I'll just keep them separate for convenience.

I ended up just picking random for certain characters, either because I don't pair them with anyone (Elise, Mozu), dislike them so much that I end up leaving them Forever Alone (Peri, Silas, Jakob, Azama), or don't have a preferred pairing for them (Felicia). Otherwise I just went with my OTPs. I'll probably be the only person voting Leo/Hinoka and Corrin/Tsubaki.

Are there going to be polls for children pairings as well?

If you don't have any preferences, then you should just skip the question so you don't mess with the data. I'll probably get to the second generation eventually.

I wonder how long it took you to do this.

It didn't take too long, actually; copying and pasting is your friend. I did have to look up what the Revelation-exculsive pairings were, but in total the whole thing took around 2 hours.

  16. Be sure to waste your time and read this post before selecting your choices!

Now, humble reader, you are probably wondering who would dare talk about pairing popularity. And your concern would not be unfounded.

While thinking of pairings to use for my fanfics, I found myself at a roadblock. How was I ever to determine which pairings are Debeste... err, the best? Then I discovered the most obvious answer: popular opinion! As demonstrated by the Wonderful 101, any problem can be solved with numbers. With your help, I can solve a problem which you probably don't care about at all! But more importantly, this is also a project to determine what pairings are most popular, especially since we already have a thread for least favorite pairings.

"Golly, Mr. Light, where do I fit into this?" you're probably thinking.

All you have to do, dear reader, is to choose who the most special of someones is for each character! In other words, you must select who the best romantic partner is for each character. But not who the best is for stats; leave your eugenics at home! You also need not judge pairings solely by their supports, general compatibility can also be taken into account, or how much a pairing makes sense based on the plot. For the sake of my cheapness and your inconvenience, the polls come in five fabulous flavors, plus a bonus! Each poll covers eight characters, and they can be found here:

Shared characters (male Corrin, female Corrin, Azura, Felicia, Jakob, Silas, Kaze, Mozu) (results)

Hoshidan Males (Ryoma, Takumi, Saizo, Azama, Hinata, Subaki, Hayato, and Kaden) (results)

Hoshidan Females (Hinoka, Sakura, Kagero, Setsuna, Oboro, Hana, Orochi, and Rinkah) (results)

Nohrian Scum Males (Xander, Leo, Laslow, Odin, Niles, Arthur, Benny, and Keaton) (results)

Nohrian Females (Camilla, Elise, Peri, Selena, Beruka, Effie, Nyx, and Charlotte) (results)

Bonus Ducks (Scarlet, Flora, captured bosses, NPCs) (results)

But don't think that these polls are exclusive to the residents of this humble forest! In the event that the citizens of Begnion accuse us of assassinating their apostle, you should share these polls with your friends, or your enemies, or your friends' enemies! ...You can also share it on other sites, too. Getting through all the questions might take some time, but try to answer all of them. The fate of no one in particular depends on it!

I think that's everything... wait, I forgot to make a Frozen reference! But I guess that can wait for another time. Until then, happy polling! I'll be sure to post the results whenever they become relevant.

EDIT: Now featuring the next generation!

Shared Children (female Kana, male Kana, Shigure, Dwyer, Sophie, Midori)

Hoshidan Children (Shiro, Kiragi, Asugi, Selkie, Hisame, Mitama, Caeldori, Rhajat)

Nohrian Children (Siegbert, Forrest, Ignatius, Velouria, Percy, Ophelia, Soleil, Nina)
