  1. I like it as well as I'd rather have a smaller, but more detailed and fleshed out cast, than having 50+ characters but a lot of them feel quite shallow and possibly even annoying some of them.
  2. So what do you guys think about where we'll be staying during the war phase...back at the monastery again? I wouldn't mind maybe if it's like a time travel thing, making it the next mycastle effectively. Bringing you and your students back in time?
  3. 👀 Omg will we see the advanced tier classes in this issue? I can't wait to see how awesome they look!
  4. Best fire emblem game confirmed...and it's not even out yet!!
  5. I think I've realized why I feel so strongly against awakening and fates, to the point where I rant online about how "terrible" I subjectively think they are...it's because I miss things like base conversations immensely, and I don't think the support system in games without it in general can appeal to me specifically much without them. In combination with my personal life being terrible and me feeling dependent on series like fire emblem for comfort, it leads me to doing rants like this. When I first started with fire emblem awakening, I'd played over 200 hours of it and I was in love with almost everything about it. And then when I played path of radiance and radiant dawn the same thing happened, but then I started to look back on awakening, combined with the fan base's general distaste towards fates and the direction the games seemed to be going in at the time of fates (before we knew about echoes) and I began to hate awakening and fates since as they weren't the style I liked the most, and it was popular to hate on fates, I started thinking like that more and more. However, while I still far prefer the tellius games to awakening and the gba FEs, I can see in this state of mind that they're not bad games at all, just different from what I prefer. The only one I still feel iffy about is fate's story, but even then I've played over 100 hours of that game just for the gameplay alone from conquest. I am once again optimistic about three house's story and charcaters because it seems like base conversations (aka talking to others in the monastery and doing side quests) are back and better than ever. If that wasn't enough, it seems characters like Ashe also get some spotlight on them in the main story it seems, so there's that too. As for the the main topic itself for this thread, I think a balance towards serious, with comedic elements sprinkled inbetween like in echoes, is what I prefer. Sorry for the drama btw.
  6. Honestly, I can't stand the recent "zany" direction awakening and fates have in areas such as supports, where you'd go from a story that has a serious tone to slapstick comedy and memes. I hate it and I wish fire emblem would go back to the style of the tellius/jugdral games and echoes again. Yes stories have to have some light heartedness to not burn out most fans...but the amount of light heartedness in those two games were radically different I'd argue to previous games for the most part. Characters like Virion, Sully, Elise, Camilla, etc... were all annoying to me, I hated their "playful"/one note personalities and I felt it ruined the serious tone those games tried to build up at various points. If we look at a character like Jill in Path of radiance, she goes from a typical laguz hating daein soldier, to being confused after chapter 11 seeing the dragons help Ike and crew, to even being able to murder her own father since he's stopping you from getting to ashnard. Plenty of characters are like this in the tellius games, and they use the main story itself and base conversations (rather than solely supports) to do this. No, not every character was Shakespearean tiered as Ilyana, Makalov and others also felt one-note and boring...but with the tellius games I felt like they were the exception not the norm. I'd take a Jill over a Sully, Virion, Camilla, Ricken, etc... any day! In fact I also have something else to say...I hate how fire emblem three houses is being advertised based on the avatar and monastery, rather than the main story and gameplay. And the fact that so many people are begging for the series to be "more like Persona" is depressing when I seem to be one of the only ones who wants fire emblem to stay traditional fire emblem, and not focus on the avatars, marriages and child units. Just because something is popular and makes a lot of money, doesn't mean your old fans are all happy with what you're doing. Lootboxes are also popular, but according to some other peoples' logic we should just accept them solely because people are ok with them, as they keep making lots of money? Three houses when you look in detail at it's mechanics and story, seems amazing! And it's baffling why there's been little marketing for the game and the ones we did get, focus on the monastery and avatar -_-
  7. It still looks likely you'll have to fight the church at some point....maybe that's this game's main war?
  8. I'd actually like it if IS went all out with the more dark tone the game seems to have, rather than being too afraid to kill off too many characters for whatever reason. And since the game already is differing from previous FEs already, it's not exactly something that makes the leak more suspicious.
  9. As I've said before, all I want at this point is for the "leaks" to actually be legit, since I care heavily about the story and those 3/4 tier class options. It sucks though for those hoping that things like dating students or sothis wouldn't happen, but ah well...at least there's no "having kids with students" stuff at least?
  10. This game looks better and better the more I see it, and thanibomb's leak looks more true each time as well!
  11. The skull-faced knight has a really cool and intimidating design, though I'm not a fan of the flame emperor's design since it seems less intimidating and more "wacky/demon-ish" like how that piece attached to his head is stupidly long for seemingly no reason.
  12. I really hope that's the case, since I'd HATE it if fire emblem become just like persona. Not that the persona series is terrible, but I want fire emblem to be more like as you said at the end since that's the style I enjoy far more than the whole "customization+dating" angle some of the newer games have...hopefully the leak is legit!
  13. Honestly, thanibomb is the BIGGEST reason why I'm so excited for fire emblem three houses, since it makes it seem like more of a traditional fire emblem game than the marketing is letting on (focusing on characters and monastery stuff). If it ends up true, this'll easily be my favourite game in the series...so yeah, fingers crossed!!
  14. Sounds interesting, and yeah, the first act of awakening was the part I enjoyed the most about the game.
  15. I think it'd help if you gave specific examples for what anime trends it's using to appeal to the lowest common denominator? I think the graphics and art style of three houses look okay-ish, but I'm really hoping the animations and stuff are smooth and flashy again.
  16. I disagree with your point that a story can be "objectively" poorly written or written well, as I strongly believe it is due to the subjective feelings and tastes of the user that determine whether they'll enjoy or hate something in general. I don't mean stating facts about a story because in that sense, you can be objective...I mean whether something being "anime tropes" is good/bad. The other thing I wanted to mention is the whole idea of "judge a game based on what it's trying to be, not what you want it to be" and I agree with this way of thinking since that's the only "objective" way to judge a game, though even then it can still be pretty subjective at times. However, I subjectively enjoyed path of radiance and echoes stories and characters and the opposite was true for me with fates, to the point where I can't enjoy it anymore. The main things that let me enjoy those games I praised more are... - some characters like Jill develop over the course of the game, going from a glory seeking daein soldier, to questioning her entire morals, to being able to kill her own father because he's standing in their way to stopping Ashnard. - characters like Tobin and Gray in echoes, show up a lot in main story dialog scenes which help make them feel relevant throughout the game - there's a more gritty tone to things in general, which for me I like - characters like Shinion insulting Ike and leaving after Greil's death, making everything feel more "real" as not everyone respected you right from the getgo. Of course, this isn't to say every character is shakespear levels of writing, you still have characters like Makalov or Ilyana who are pretty one note, especially in radiant dawn. But overall, I really enjoyed path of radiance's characters, and I really hope three houses takes some of these concepts and uses them again...that'd be awesome! But right now, I want to believe again that three houses will surprise me, and will have some of the things I mentioned.
  17. Heavily disagree there, SoV's story was AMAZING, and infinitely better than fate's plot and characters. Sure it wasn't perfect in everyway, but I really enjoyed it. Also, yes the execution plays a part in how good something is, rather than whether or not it's an "anime cliche"...but on the otherhand, some directions are more interesting to more people than other directions. True, there's nothing inherently wrong with taking something like game of thrones for example, and making it full of slapstick comedy and stuff (as none of it can be inherently bad)...but it's about what fans want at the end of the day, and a lot of veteran fans weren't happy with fates, except for conquest's gameplay. I'd wager veteran fans don't want to see fire emblem taken in a direction of "highschool" dynamics and no real wars in the main settings and stuff, even if it was executed well. Not saying Three Houses is that for certain, but IF it was. As for the whole "power fantasy" thing. That's not what I have an issue with specifically, it's the amount of player worship that gets annoying for me when I play these games. In the end, I'm not going to try and stop anyone from enjoying Three Houses or fates, or anything...but I will voice my opinions and tastes on what I want out of fire emblem.
  18. I'm gonna say what others have said about this not being proof of their reliability being lessened at all, and if I'm honest...it seems like FAR too many people here hate everything about thanibomb personally just because of the leak, and are offended by their actions in general. Not saying they're legit or anything, but it does seem suspicious as well how some people here are going out of their way to get thanibomb "pwned" for the "leak".
  19. I think he just means the quality of the writing isn't as good as games like echoes or path of radiance, as well as certain mechanics like marriage, avatars and child units coming back for every new main game now, because I'd agree with those concerns if that's what they are. Sure, three houses isn't out yet, but to be honest...I have no faith the fanbase wouldn't defend the crap out of three houses even if it's story was another fates, since there's just too many people now that ONLY care about the characters and features to do with them...rather than getting another path of radiance or echoes again.
  20. Hopefully it confirmes us leaving the monastery at some point in the game.
  21. Seems exciting! Though I'd like to know what thanibomb said about all this, to see whether the "leak" is more/less credible.
  22. I'd be ecstatic if we left the monastery partway through the game, as I think the alternative (having nearly the whole game take place in that setting) would be extremely boring and not-fire emblem. However, if there's the right amount of time spent there, it could add as a huge boost to the characters you'd want to use, and then a traditional fire emblem type game would happen afterwards. Maybe you could even occasionally visit the monastery too? In general I think three houses gets a lot of undeserved bashing for things like it's art style (not talking about the graphical quality here) when I love the more realistic, less colorful take going on here with the environments and stuff. It reminds me a lot of the Tellius series...y'know some of my favorite games of all time? As for the "leak", apparently orange haired boi revealed recently has a competitive grudge with eldegard, something predicted by thanibomb? None of this "proof" seems that credible, but hey, I'd rather believe the game will be a mix of traditional and experimental fire emblem than the alternative...a literal "military academy" (highschool) persona ripoff with fire emblem grid battles, where you'd never leave the school for the whole game and the story would be boring too.
  23. If the leak ends up being even partially true story wise, this could EASILY be the absolute best game in the series, even better than my current favourite- FE path of radiance. I mean, canto's back even, heck yeah!! Fire Emblem: Three Houses? More like...Fire Emblem: Best Game Ever Made!
