  1. Er, if you look below my profile picture, you'll see I live in the Netherlands myself. I'd like to think my 18 years of experience of living in the Netherlands count for something xD. Also, no-one else I know here in the Netherlands celebrates thanksgiving.
  2. Eh, don't know about the others, but I live I the Netherlands and I can assure you we don't celebrate Thanksgiving
  3. Whoops, I meant the Binding Blade, you're correct. I always confuse them haha.
  4. Character-wise: Corrin. No need to explain this one. Honourable mention: Chrom for being boring af, I didn't really like Ephraim and Eirika either, but I couldn't be bothered to finish that game, so perhaps I shouldn't judge them. Stat-wise: Eliwood, Lyn and our boy Roy are all pretty bad. Roy has the redeeming feature of his rapier being very useful and once he gets the Binding Blade he's all right. However, he is still really bad throughout most of the game and his very late promotion doesn't help this. I will say, it does make sense when looking at his character, being more of a strategist than a fighter, same for Eliwood who's more of a politician.
  5. I'd say FE7 (Blazing Sword). It's one of the easier titles and being a GBA game most of it's mechanics could be referred to as "core" mechanics, e.g. supports, rescue. I'd say 1 to 5 are too unique/weird for a newcomer, especially 2, 4 and 5. FE6 is like 7 but more difficult. I myself don't enjoy FE8 at all, but it might be a good starter. It's a bit like FE7 but even easier and with more grinding. Awakening is similar, being easy and with grinding. But even more so than with FE8, it might be harder to dive into the older games after that. I haven't played FE9 to FE12 so I can't judge them.
  6. 1. Leif, like others said, one of the few lords not yet in the game, a cool character and lots of interesting design space (light sword for example) 2. Levyn, why wasn't this dude added along with Sigurd? Just make Deirdre a healer and Levyn the green mage, (almost) no one cares about Deirdre. I'd be fine with having Sety too, but they kinda dislike adding children and Levyn should come first imo 3. Finn, yes, more Judgral. This guy's such a boss and appears as a plotrelevant character in multiple games. 4. Perceval, though I'm hesitant to name more cavalry units, this dude practically carries your group from the moment he joins, he deserves it. 5. Renault/Yodel. I'd like to see them try to make a useful healer, maybe with rescue/warp/fortify or who knows what janky staves they use. Just give them bad stats and make their staff non-inheritable or something. Considering we've got all kinds of mobility skills and dancers, I think a 3 range warp should be fine on a unit with mediocre stats.
  7. I'm assuming you mean Geitz? Because first of all, if you lvl 10 her then bench it's still possible. But more importantly, I don't really want Geitz that badly. Sure, he's good, but not so good to be worth using Lyn (and Eliwood for that matter) a lot.
  8. She's forced in the final chapter, yes. But the final chapter has a lot of open space and it very easy to keep her out of combat. Heck, usually during that chapter you're keeping Nils and 1 or 2 staffbots out of range as well without any problem. If you really want to be careful you can feed her kils up to lvl 10, most of which has already been done in Lyn's mode and then promote and bench, but that's not really necessary. Just because she's forced in the final chapter doesn't mean you have to force yourself to use her the entire game... Either way, naming her as one of the best characters is just nonsense.
  9. I literally said that if you wanted to, you could still use them, even though they're subpar. Heck, I usually use Fir in FE6, even though I know myrmidons are not that great of a class and Rutger is better. However, when someone asks me what characters are good in FE6, do I answer "Fir"? No, I wouldn't. As for your question, why bother? Because when you know which characters are great, you can fill most spots with them and use those final spots for your favourites. So once again, I'm not saying you should never use Dart. I'm saying that if you're looking for good characters for a good ranking, completing the game easily or carrying your favourites, you shouldn't pick Dart for that. EDIT: Also, why'd you say Lyn's one of the best characters? She's a swordlocked 1-range infantry unit, with meh damage output (yes, she crits a lot, but even then it's nothing special and pretty unreliable) and very bad survivability. Her personal weapons are somewhat redeeming features but still, there's no way she's among the best.
  10. Yes, you can beat the game with bad/mediocre characters. Yes, archers can be made usable with enough babying. However, the question remains, why would you ever recommend them? If they're your favorite characters, sure, you can handicap yourself and use them. But when OP asks what the best characters are, I'm not going to name mediocre/usable characters, I'm naming the best characters. And you've got to admit neither Dart, nor Wil or Rebecca belongs in that list. I will agree that Dart is a lot better than Bartre and Dorcas, that does not mean he is anywhere close to the top tier characters though.
  11. Mine seems legit, I'm pretty sure the entire ordering is correct, I'm assuming the tie button could screw things up though, so I didn't use it 1 Renault 2 Finn 3 Perceval 4 Fir 5 Ced 6 Palla 7 Lloyd 8 Eliwood 9 Narcian 10 Marcus
  12. Even if you don't care about the funds rank, the gold you get from selling his promotion item is very useful. As for archers, sure, Louise is decent, but not that great, and I really disagree regarding Wil and Rebecca. Both of them are just too much effort to train in the early game to be worth it. I'm not saying it can't be done, but why would you force yourself to use a bad unit in the earlygame to have a medium unit in the lategame? In the earlygame, all they do is chip for a bit of damage and even in the lategame, the best thing they will be able to do is kill 1 enemy per turn, whereas for example Lowen with a javelin or Pent with a tome can kill someone on player phase and continue fighting on enemy phase. Yes, Wil can be trained in Lyn's mode but even then I'd rather pump the exp into Florina and my cavaliers.
  13. Hi, not sure if you're aware of this, but there is a way to trade, by pawning away weapons and buying them back with others, you'll end up lower in funds, but it can be done if you want to. Anyway, great that you're loving it!
  14. The only two classes I consider to be bad in almost every game and only use in exception cases (like Othin in FE5) are knights/generals and fighters/warriors. I'd say give generals access to all physical weapons, so lances, axes, swords and bows. I think fighters/warriors could be a little tankier. Also, give light magic more crit. Finally, I think there should be more weapons that are locked to myrmidons/swordmasters, like the Wo Dao, as that helps myrmidons contribute in spite of being swordlocked infantry. Often I hear people talk about giving generals more move, fighters more skill or myrms ranged weapons, but I'd rather give them a unique niche or further improve their strengths than remove their weakness, so I really dislike stuff like wary fighter. Classes I consider to be consistently top tier are fliers and cavaliers, I'd say make them dismount indoors FE5 style, that makes them balanced imo, whilst giving otherwise outclassed infantry units a chance to shine.
  15. Most early game axe-users are kinda garbage, like Dorcas and Bartre. And once your good units, like paladins and heroes can use axes, you don't really need to train their rank as much, just get to killer axe rank and that's all you need. So basically, almost no-one imo
  16. He's good because he has great base stats and is on a horse. He does start falling off later in the game, as he doesn't get much exp from kills, but that shouldn't stop you from using him, as long as you don't abuse him too much. His strength is that he doesn't need to be leveled up to contribute, but will be one of your best units for a long time, without needing any investment. But yeah, considering it's normal mode, you don't really have to worry about who's good, just use whoever you feel like using and you should be fine.
  17. Best story: SoV, no contest. Awakenings story is bland, Fates story is horrible. Despite some weird moments, SoV's was shown beautifully. Bets gameplay: Conquest. Awakening and BR were too easy, REV too gimmicky and I dislike SoV's dungeons. At least Conquest was challenging. Worst story: Revelations. Sure, AW and BR are really bland and CQ has the worst Corrin, but REV s entire Valla arc is just so bad... Worst gameplay: Revelations. I haven't played BR, so I can't compare it. Awakening is too easy, SoV is also quite easy and has some things I dislike, but my god I hate the gimmicky maps in revelations.
  18. Mostly the prepromotes (especially Marcus and Pent), cavaliers and fliers. Since you played Lyn mode, Kent, Sain and Florina should be trained up as well, so even better than usual. Honourable mention to Raven, Priscilla and maybe Canas for being none of the aforementioned things but still great. Oh, and Ninian/Nils is amazing of course. Most axe-users and archers are bad, so stay away form those.
  19. FE4-Cety (Levyn as father of course for Forseti) FE5-Finn (yeah, I know both he and Cety are in both 4 and 5, but Finn's just awesome here) FE6-Tate (Thea I believe her official name is?) FE7-Lowen FE8-Tana FE13-Lucina FE14-I legitimately can't think of anyone, they're much too gimmicky for my taste. FE15-Palla Haven't played 1,2,3,11,12 but I did like Palla in echoes, so her I guess Haven't played 9,10 but the Black Knight seems cool from what I've heard/seen EDIT: I valued both gameplay and character
  20. Avatar: No, unless it's done like FE7 or so, but preferably not S-supports: Sure, on a few conditions -Not everyone can S-support everyone, maybe 1 to 3 options per character -Preferably no children, unless it's genealogy-style
  21. Pegasus knights all the way, high mobility, solid hit and dodge chances, great for rescue-drops in GBA games or tradestrats, double basically anyone. They're basically always useful. As for units I enjoy using, but aren't that great, myrmidons and swordmasters.
  22. Hi mathstudent here, I use arctan etc, as a ^-1 notation really bothers me and confuses me regarding division. In my own quick calculations however when I'm certain division won't come up I'll sometimes use ^-1 to save space/time
  23. Ah nice, of course! Thank you so much!
  24. Well, I'm currently playing through FE6 for the first time, I'm at chapter 19A (Ilia route) and just checked what the conditions on entering chapter 20AX were so I can get the legendary lance, Maltet, and play the final chapters. Turns out Zealot needs to be alive, which he isn't as I didn't know this at the time and let him die as an NPC. Well, suppose that's what I get for not researching it enough beforehand xD. Does anyone know a relatively easy way to hack the ROM and put Maltet in my inventory so I can play the last chapters or is this impossible? Thanks in advance! Note: I am pretty unexperienced with hacking, so I might not know all terminology but can of course look up how to do basic things. Sorry if this has been posted before, I couldn't find it on the forums.
  25. I don't think she's a very strong unit, but people tend to like her design and character, she's Roy's main love interest and Hector's daughter. Also, mine got ridiculously speed-blessed (7 above average as a lvl 14 mage I believe) which made her an absolute monster as she murdered everything and dodged like crazy. In general Lugh is better I believe, though they are close.
