  1. It's been some years, but I don't recall Machiavelli so much flat out saying "use and discard people," though. It came across to me as advising somebody on how to avoid making mistakes in a high-risk, hostile political environment (and if I remember correctly, he was writing to a particular Borgia family member who history knows as having been a jerk even without anybody else's help, so I wonder if he was trying to speak to a certain audience in the first place). One thing that stuck in my memory of the book was his saying that, although being feared was to him better than being loved (because he thought love, especially the average subject's love was more fickle than fear), both were better than being hated, and that trying too hard to be the first risked the third. And a lot of the rest of it that I remember was, like, "don't rely on mercenaries when an army with [more] reason [than money and expedience alone] to be loyal to you is available," or "there are three kinds of subordinates: people who can do their job fine without any instruction, people who can eventually do their job on their own with the help of instruction to get them started, and people who can't do their job even with instruction; the first two kinds should be sought out and hired, and the third kind should be sought out and fired." That kind of stuff.
  2. Hell, I wish more people would draw boys like girls are drawn for fanservice's sake. I get nothing out of guys just standing like they gettin their height measured at the doctor's, Conanesque or not. Seduce me damn it Pictured: men with physically attractive bodies, who are not trying at all
  3. Cheeky option: ask them the following I didn't see what the big deal with The Prince was, personally.
  4. My dad told me the reason he doesn't take buses is because ours don't live up to the ones he got to use in Munich Here they're routinely 5 minutes late, 10 minutes late, so late the bus might as well have skipped stops, whatever, be happy the assholes showed up to work today at all. They're the option you take if you have nothing better He said the ones in Munich were so reliable in comparison, they might as well have been automated
  5. Netanyahu "officially" says he'll never allow/broker a two-state solution.
  6. I assume words of power, runes etc. are involved.
  7. Other mainstreamish franchises/characters I will (imo) give you when talking about who just miiiight be drawn "that kind of sexy, like maybe (maybe) even on purpose:" -Spiderman I think part of it might just be that both the colors and the "webbing" run along his abs/chest in some accidentally perfect way or sthg, like you could put anybody with Peter Parker's otter BMI [edit: not BMW] in the spidey suit sans mask and I personally would instantly find them more attractive (at least in some way that I don't RE Superman), but, I do have to say it seems to me he finds himself in sexier poses with higher frequency than the average... I dunno, big name (straight) hero? (Might be kind of hard to avoid w/his fighting/everything style, to be sure) -there must be more, give me a minute his SeveIian
  8. "Just look it up, like on the Internet," I hear you say. "What did I just say about *not* knowing," I say
  9. I sincerely wonder whether Araki is a little gay sometimes, but part of the fun is in not knowing
  10. Funny, I happened on an interesting (if opinionated, unabashedly pro-Obunaga and maybe less-than-super-rigorously-cited) perspective which claimed that the Japanese Buddhist warrior monks were such a malign influence in general, being gangsters, squatters and in effect unabashed protection racketeers towards every ruler out there up to the daimyos, shoguns, emperors and beyond over hundreds of years, that what Nobunaga did was likely on the whole both entirely necessary to truly gain control over Japan (the ethicality of that goal, and how he did it in general, momentarily put aside for the sake of arguing his Great Man status), and even a damn good thing that had been a long time coming. (enthusiasm in phrasing there not mine) Not that I'm in a position to make a judgement on any of it of course, but I sure went a long time without hearing any side of it that was strictly anti-monk there. Pity the ideas were either lost in translation or just nobody mentioning it to me for so long, I think it makes both Nobunaga and the situation a good bit more interesting.
  11. Same, everybody please share with me any and all instances of large-sized dong discrimination in games so that I might help to fight the good fight for equal dong size representation
  12. Shaving always made me feel better about myself, but I've wondered if it's just because I thought "hair on body = caveman = unattractive," that being underweight and hairy was a gross contradiction which had to be resolved (and it probably wasn't going to be by gaining weight), or just because my dad having been the only guy I knew as a kid with a substantial amount of body hair (and at the same time in his fifties) made me a bit insecure about growing up to look like him. But then I had trouble seeing anything (physically) attractive in masculinity and in some ways tried to actively distance myself from it for a bunch of years (and in some ways maybe still do), so I probably don't have the authority to say anything more about what is or should be normal for boys/men than to add to the answers of "just stick with what feels good"
  13. Not to beat the poor horse, but Berserk, while its designs aren't uniformly exploitative or anything, isn't exactly the first anime (or manga, definitely not the manga) that jumps to my mind as far as "won't skeeve Anacybelle out vis a vis its treatment of (some of its) female characters" goes. (Miura getting a turn at designing FE characters, though... hoooooo boy would I ever preorder that) FMA's creator draws herself as a cow. automatic free pass imo
  14. Your link appears to be behind a bit of a wall. What you're saying, though, reminds me of some psych rag article I caught that noted an experiment where both men and women were hooked up to some kinda brain scanner, shown either pornographic or merely smutty (I forget which) images, and asked if they found the pics arousing. The women in this data set answered "yes" less frequently than the men did (expected), but supposedly the parts of the brains which corresponded to [some kinda sexy thoughts] fired up just the same for some significant portion (maybe all? forget) of the women who said no as it did for the men who said yes. (the article neglected to mention whether the experimenters asked the subjects about their sexual orientation) Go figure. phone, blame, excuses
  15. Dang, I blinked and missed it. Sleepless trance of murder and aimless wandering until death: accurate Should've put more points into survival... If there's room for any more a second it'd be cool to enter again, but if it comes down to me and somebody who hasn't gotten in yet the other dude can have the spot.
  16. Just a few times in campaigns that had/are having trouble getting off the ground, but I really like the idea of them. I love the potential for a mashup between a book/play? and a video game (if mechanics-focused, as I tend to gravitate towards) made with friends. I've also had the odd idea for a system/setting that I might like to build for one. I can get kind of addicted to reading sourcebooks/supplementary info where I can get them
  17. Separate from any evaluation of your ideas about character race change: I can't say I know what you mean by the bolded.
  18. I can see how somebody might interpret the top part and like-colored to be a very dark "gold" in a certain kind of lighting, but I don't even care about the lighting, there's no way anybody who says there is a speck of white on that thing isn't having a laugh That is a light purplish blue. You are fuckin avin a jej w/me. I may die on this hill but I'm taking you too
