  1. From what the recent trailer gave us, it seems like the first idea is most likely. Personally, when choosing a house, I would like it to be a "Hey, Byleth, Go be in charge of this group of students and make sure they don't do anything stupid" while teaching all of the three houses at once. However, the only units you have "access" (like, you could interact with the other two houses, but since they have their own house leaders, like you, you can't change their equipment, studies, etc.) are from the house you chose. The player would basically be like a dorm mother, watching over the house they choose, while teaching them what they know. Since the player is a now ex-merc, with the preceding reputation of their father so great, the house they chose would respect them further because of this reputation. This is why you can help them change their focus in their studies, change their class, etc. As the game goes on, and you move pass the "getting rid of the bandits" arc, something happens where the player now has full access to two or all three of the houses, and the player has to prepare them for some type of war/conflict (probably something to do with the black beasts or something even more sinister *COUGH DRAGONS COUGH COUGH*) However, because the studies are quote-unquote over, the player cannot change the other two houses classes and focus. And then middle-final story arc, some hopefully well designed and difficult chapters, and games over. I have another idea, but it'll take me a while to form it into words. I'll post it later though.
  2. @Azure in a Roundabout I'd love to join you guys as a player. Is there a discord server or group chat we could join to make things easier? My schedule isn't all that flexible, but I can probably move some things around if need be.
  3. Fanservice is fine in moderation for any game, even if its not for story or character development.
  4. If I had to choose one in theory, I'd choose storywise promotion. In practice, I'd say normal unit promotion.
  5. I've been playing for about three years now, and I love it. I don't play as much as I want to, so if you have a spot open sometime, I'll happily join. I've been a DM most of the time, but I've been a player for about... three? sessions or so. Since I haven't really been a player for all that long, I can't say what my favorite class is in practice, but in theory, I'd say either Warlock or Paladin.
  6. If we are talking about, at its core, what Fire Emblem is, then I think we should define what the "definitive" Fire Emblem game is. I'd say it's something along the lines of a young leader(s) rallying allies to their cause, bit by bit, with their personality until they not only achieve their goal, but also stop a deeper evil plot that would destroy the world. I'd say FE12 (New Mystery of the Emblem) in a nutshell, in my opinion.
  7. Agreed. Honestly, It's not that I'm worried. It's more like I'm cautiously optimistic. Kind of like trying a new food, where it's just like "I could like it, I could hate it, but I won't know until I try it personally."
  8. Currently playing chapter one... I like it so far. Just one question. So Fern and Cole are Lopez's children, right? That would make them Bruce's uncle and aunt, if I am not mistaken. Now don't get me wrong, the portraits are nice, and certainly hard work has been put into them, but it doesn't seem like there is much of an age difference between Fern, Cole, and Bruce.
  9. The latest build would most likely still be the FEE3 demo. Blazeking did say "the updates will come slowly and not at all surely, sorry". As much as we'd all like to see this progress, it may not happen.
  10. I feel as if all of Fates had wasted potential. FE11 (which I haven't played in years, but from what I remember) could've been a lot better. Awakening is definitely on my list as well. FE8 (and I may be a bit biased as its my first FE game as well as my favorite) seemingly has a lot of potential as well. Lets start at the top then (In order of my playthroughs of them) FE8-- Valter was kind of an underwhelming boss. Sure he has the Fili shield (I believe that's what it's called), but the way the game hyped him up didn't match up. Plus we get no backstory of what he was like before he got Duessel's family lance. If that was included in the story rather than a support + the fight against Valter being restricted to lets say, Seth + Eirika and maybe Ephraim, that could've been awesome. Then there was Selena. She was supposedly the "Camus" of the game. The one person the player was supposed to feel "bad" about killing. But again, kind of an underwhelming boss, and I didn't really even feel all that bad. Storywise, she serves Vigarde because of his kindness when her village was starving. The villages on her map also contribute to her not being a bad person, but Ephraim doesn't falter at all. If I had my way. I'd make Selena's chapter in a small mountain range, where she blocks the only path to the capital of Grado, and has her own personal tome which is 1-10 range + doesn't slow her down. Edit: I accidently posted this, edited it to write everything down, then my computer crashed, and I lost everything I was writing, so I'll do it all again later. If a mod sees this, feel free to delete this post, I'll eventually either post again or edit this post. (spent the last hour writing everything, too angry to do it right now, also my family's going out to dinner and I have no time to anyway)
  11. Yeah, I don't even recruit Palla/Catria half the time (I low-man FE a lot)
  12. Well, that's me as a person, but if you want me to go more in-depth... 40 40 30 30 30 40 3 These are Faye's growths as a villager, as a Pegasus Knight, they are 35 35 30 35 35 35 3 and after Falco-Knight Promotion, they are 30 30 30 40 40 30 3 These growths just...don't appeal to me plain and simple. I don't want to have another Pegasus Knight with a weakness the enemy can exploit (There are no enemy ridersbane last time I checked, but they do get bows), especially when the class itself lowers the strong points of that Character. Sure Falco-Knights get 10 extra dmg in echoes, but I'm not gonna baby Faye and Clair for 12 levels each. Even then, I don't really use Clair because she can't keep up with the rest of the units I use (basically Alm, Mathilda when I get her, Clive if He can get a few points of defense, Lukas, Mercenary Gray, Mage Tobin, Archer Kilff, and Silque. Forsyth if he keeps up with Lukas, and Python if he keeps up with Kilff., and of course, Cav Faye) Sure, Clair can do decent against mages, but she can never one round them, and in the end, that kills her because there are more than one arcanists around. With the rest of the roster I listed + Cav Faye, I can one round each and every arcanist, while taking at least 2-3 hits before getting K.O.ed simply because of their MAssive HP, which Clair and Peg Faye do not have before Falcoknight. And then, when they would get falco-knight, I never used them because, well, I don't need them. Now if numbers aren't enough....I simply don't like the way the Pegasus Knight has aged. Yes, You can keep them fast, but why take away Rescue from them? Yes, keep the fanservice with miniskirts and whatever the hell else Pegasus knights have, I don't care (actually I do, but that's me being nit picky). But in recent installments, they haven't been up to the standards I've been used to. SoV was a wonderful remake of Gaiden, don't get me wrong, but they could've done so, so much better than they did. But Fates basically killed Pegasus Knights for me with Subaki simply not being a good unit in my eyes and Hinoka coming underleveled in Revelations (I don't even remember trying to use her in Birthright). Awakening with Sumia and Cordelia...don't get me wrong, decent units....but I didn't need them. In the older installments of the game, the player needed at least one Pegasus Knight for some reason (mostly not combat) and I loved that. And then, because of that need, they became good.
  13. Honestly, Mage Faye doesn't really appeal to me and I don't really like Pegasus knights in the first place...So I usually go with cavalier, and she turns out great. Cleric Faye is...not a right fit, y'know?
  14. When it comes to durability, for weapons, Yeah Sure. For magic, pls bring back Gaiden Style. Because it makes sense that your physical/mental strength drains with time as you use magic. I've seen other fantasy stories with magic do it that way (like the Eragon series by Christopher Paolini), and the way it is portrayed, makes sense, because a spellcaster has to find the energy from somewhere to put the energy into the spell, since energy cannot be created or destroyed. I mean, in FE7, Nino has no idea how to read, but she still needs the book to cast magic? And then, its just like, lets say I've been using Fire (I mean the SPELLBOOK like from the GBA games) over and over again, eventually getting through, lets say, five fire tomes. I'm pretty sure I would've memorized the words by then.... Ok, now to elaborate. If a person reads the same lines over and over again, they would eventually memorize those words, similar to like practicing an oral speech or presentation. Thus they wouldn't need said lines on paper anymore. Now, obviously, if they don't keep practicing the lines, they will eventually forget them. In the place of Fire Emblem, lets use... Lute from Fe8. Who doesn't use Lute on a normal playthrough (probably that one guy who hates mages, but eh). Now, on the assumption that the player WILL use Lute throughout the entire game, Lute comes with a Fire tome, and the player eventually buys more Fire tomes from the chapter 5 shop for Lute. Now, eventually those Fire tomes run out. Lets say...three or four tomes are used up by Lute. Lute should now be able to cast Fire without a tome. However, lets say The player makes her use Thunder tomes instead for the rest of the game. Lute should forget the words for Fire, and will need the tome again once she forgets some of the words. But eventually, she'll memorize Thunder. However, if she constantly switched out between using Fire(from memory) and a Thunder tome, she would not forget the Fire spell. For non-magic stuff, Weapons with durability also make sense to me. And it makes sense to constantly have to buy weapons. But instead of an Armorer, why not a blacksmith with resource gathering (but more balanced)? That way, you could hand over, lets say...five iron ingots/ore + some leather (for the handle and hilt) to make an Iron sword. Obviously, you would need some other type of currency as well to pay the blacksmith to make the weapon, or you could just straight up pay the blacksmith to make a certain weapon. No restrictions. (meaning from the first blacksmith, you could make silver weapons, but they would be expensive). And maybe, from Blacksmith to Blacksmith, prices are different. Like, in a city blacksmith, it takes less money if you hand over the materials than if you were at a village blacksmith. Or something like that. Also for Prf weapons, they would need...lets call it special materials to make them, similar to the gossamer hair from SoV, but more attainable, you know? Now if we are talking legendary weapons, they should be unbreakable, because they are legendary after all. Now, obviously there would be some balancing. Personally, I would take gaiden's weight system and use that. Lets use the Gradivus as an example. I would give it about sixish weight, so that each unit who could wield it loses six speed. Something on that scale. (Now, I am by no means a good balancer, so pls don't rage). Now...the Hammerne, if I were to use my system above, I'd make it so that A: it'd cost a ton of health, like Anew from SoV, and B: I would change its effect so that it either it stops the #of uses from going down for a turn, or, for a turn, the weight of the weapon is reduced to zero. I think that's all I have off the top of my head. But yeah, that's my point of view on this topic.
  15. He probably does train, you're right, but it should be shown instead of the way he's portrayed, y'know?
  16. Agreed. But after a loss, it would make sense that a Warrior would train day and night to beat his rival, but instead it seems like Berkut just whines...
  17. Honestly, on the topic of SoV, Berkut. Gameplaywise, it shows his stats getting better. Storywise, however, He just whines and whines and whines and does nothing to make himself stronger...
  18. You are talking about the chapter after you recruit Hawkeye, yes? Yeah its possible. I believe Mangs did it in his...randomized run? of Fe7. (Not entirely sure...But I do remember he did it with Rebecca and the Brave Bow yes)
  19. I kinda agree though. Levail was a bit underwhelming. Though you are stuck with fighting through that big horde of enemies if you don't have siege tomes.
  20. Eirika sucks as a unit and a character Ephraim sucks as a character more than Eirika Lyon's a fucking coward Selena's fight was too early and it should've been more hyped up. Also, no personal tome? Bolting can be baited out... Leif is 15 Lyn doesn't have a horse, though in her backstory it specifically is mentioned that she escaped from the bandit attack when her parents died...on a horse. Like WTF woman, those animals are expensive. I don't like Anna's design in Awakening or Fates. Anna is absent from Echoes Roy's a thot I think Lilina is ugly and I hate that she's a mage Um. I'll be back for more DW.
