Ultimately we'll never know. There doesn't ever seem to be a concrete answer. So we can only speculate between budget, lack of resources ( @Saint Rubenio looking into it, there's def more that goes into PC dev because of all the variables, since PCs aren't uniform like consoles are) or, a third explanation i've seen: artistic value. See, I've seen it suggested looking into this that because the art is the soul of Vanillaware's projects, putting it on PC where it becomes easily moddable is something they do not want. Take from that what you will. I would say this is also probably why they never do sequels. A remake or remaster later down the line sure. But a sequel would require commitment to the IP (well not always but you get where I'm going with this) and sequels usually have to justify their existence with how well the previous title did. With Vanillaware making one and done projects, don't gotta worry about that.

It could also be budget. I mean, Unicorn Overlord and 13 Sentinels both used up their entire budget, with Kamitani having to pay the rest out of pocket. Not a coincidence that both games were their most ambitious (UO took 10 years). Of course, their earlier games aren't on PC either save for that MMO they made but like half their library predates the 2010s so that was when Japan didn't really make PC games in the first place.

Because Vanillaware is actually small company, my guess is that they did not want to get pressured into making a PC port when they don't have the resources to. Now, pulling a Falcom and letting someone else do it is possible but they might not want others to handle their games. Guesswork idk.

I gotta respect the commitment to the bit honestly.

He did pay out of pocket to finish the game (they used up all the budget "as usual" he says). What I like about this map is that the railways connect to all 50 states that aren't Alaska and Hawaii. Usually when you see "high speed rail US" maps, they like completely fuck over the Midwest (this proposition probably isn't HSR but it's a start). Yeah this is too easy /s Made my job easier /s
