  1. Some of my least favourites Faye - Give her something other to do than obsess over Alm. He may be the main character but not every female character needs to fall for him. Even changing it so that she'd like, I don't know, Tobin or someone. Of course the best solution would be giving her another hobby she could talk about. Camilla - Her attire would be fine and her personality would be fine on their own but mixing those two just makes it clear that she's only there for fan-service. Like Faye, she really does not need to obsess over the main character the way she does. Anankos - Just tell the player who he is, at least on Revelation route. Favourites Lon'qu - His backstory is actually really interesting but it's only talked in one support. It could've been mentioned somewhere else too since without that he's just kind of a jerk. Takumi - Mainly his appearance in Conquest. The whole possession thing is just unnecessary. If he'd act on his own accord, his story would be much more like a story of a downfall. Now it's just "Takumi is being controlled because Anankos is evil". Miriel - Her main problem is that Laurent is too much like her. Add that to the fact the mages are just not as good as dark mages in Awakening and she really doesn't stand out. It's just too bad because I really do like her. Just make Laurent different and buff mages.
  2. In my opinion, Awakening has the most fleshed out characters. In the previous games there always seemed to be at least a few forgettable characters and Fates just went maybe a bit too far with the archetypes in some cases. I also really liked the dlc. It made me get interested in some of the older games I had not played previously. And the music is of course amazing.
  3. I currently have a 4,25 % chance to get a 5* in the Tempest Trials banner. I have had absolute carbage luck lately, the last 5* I pulled was Azura, that I pulled before the first trials. Sigh, I suppose that's what I get for only using free orbs.
  4. I haven't played 6 but FE 7 Best: Hector, Raven, Heath Worst: Florina (people keep saying that she's good but she's never turned out any better than Fiora, so I've never used her past Lyn's story), Wallace, Renault FE 8 Best: Tana, Cormag, Ephraim Worst: Rennac, Duessel, Innes
  5. I might get hate for this, I personally don't think Fates's translation was even that bad. I mean, it wasn't good but it wasn't absolutely terrible. Maybe it's just me being from a country where localisations are a) amazing b) just english ports where only the box art is slightly altered c) just really really bad. Of course things are going to be altered. For example, the translations of Donald Duck comics (believe it or not) are highly regarded around here and they change names, jokes and some times even scripts to fit the culture better. But I do agree that 8-4 is better than Treehouse since they are much better at keeping a consistent tone. Treehouse might be better suited to translating more light-hearted games. All in all, I just want to play the game.
  6. I honestly feel like Thabes isn't all that difficult, just tedious. I got to level 5 (hard/classic) and then Alm got killed by devil axe. I'll probably just try rushing to the end next and try getting all the other stuff later. That, or go grind.
  7. Sorry about the late answer but than you, banryu! Some stuff I've drawn recently, some watercolour styled characters from SoV and one airbrushed Tibarn
  8. FE 7: Make Lyn's story more than a glorified tutorial FE 8: Err... I guess if I'd have to say something, the reveal about Jehanna's future king happened rather fast, pretty much none of the characters reacted to it and it was forgotten as fast as it appeared FE 10: Remove Ike. Seriously. He doesn't need to be in this game. FE 11: Flesh out everything more. Seriously, I understand that the game is old but that doesn't mean that the re-make has to be this basic. None of the characters really stand out because most of them get like two lines of dialogue. FE 13: Make Yen'fay's actions more sensible and remove him as a dlc character. FE 14: Well. This one's obvious. Make Garon more likable. The story would be so much better if they wouldn't paint the hoshidans to be always in the right. The whole Conquest felt like an advertisement to buy Birthright. FE 15: Convenient rockslide is a bit too convenient
  9. I'm by no means the best person to answer this but I'll try to give some pointers. Having one character on the front getting all the exp isn't always the best idea for optimal teams. The child inherits the skill last in the parent's skill list. Generally the promoted classes have the best skills. Of course, if you're not interested in min-maxing every single character, you can just throw in some random skills from the parents. The children also inherit classes from their parents. In some cases, for example with Gaius, the father would pass down berserker but if the child is female, he'll pass down pegasus knight instead and therefore the child is able to promote to a dark flier class to get the infamous galeforce, even if she wouldn't normally be able to get it. Each father also has different stat modifiers they pass down (you can find them from the wiki on the main page), so if you want to make, let's say, Cherche's child the best possible tank, you might to pair her up with Frederick for example. All of this information is also on the aforement mentioned wiki. When it comes to master seals, the optimal time, in my opinion is on level 20. You can really use second seals any time you want to get the skills you want. Some classes also have better growth rates in some stats than other. So, if your unit is lacking on some front, you can re-class them to max out on that stat. The un-promoted classes do have worse stat caps than the promoted ones, so keep that in mind if you want to re-class someone to an un-promoted class. Also, as a tip I didn't know on my first playthrough, once you reach the level 20, you can use a second seal to get you back to level 1 without any stat penalties. What exactly is confusing you about the pairing for avatar? He/she can marry pretty much any character from the opposite gender, re-class into any class that's for that gender and the child (/children) can also re-class into any class for their gender. The children are going to be op in almost any scenario.
  10. And they say smash has too many "animu sword men", ha! This is pretty much what I expected after they announced there'd be mostly Archaneia/Fates characters so I can't really say I'm surprised. They didn't really show any actual gameplay so I'm hopeful it'll be interesting.
  11. So far my tactic has been to clear everything else with "team A" and switching to "team B that includes Lilina and Soren to deal with Veronica, since you usually you don't need res for any other battle than the last one. I'm hoping that if they do this again, they don't put Veronica again to the last battle because this is annoying. Even your typical arena Takumi wouldn't be this bad. I still like the idea of tempest trials.
  12. Ever since I was 7 years old, I have wanted to become an author. Then the reality hit me and I realised that the chances to ever becoming successful, or even being able to live off of that career, are slim. That's why I'm studying to become a materials engineer (or chemical engineer, I haven't decided yet). My goal is to write on the side and if I ever do become successful, I can become an independent writer. Too bad, because of my studies and job I haven't had that much time to write but I still try to find every once in a while time to write a chapter or two. Also, even if my books never take off, it's still a fun hobby.
  13. I'd say my favourite is Oboro. I like her colour scheme and look overall. Other ones I really like are Jakob, Setsuna and Shiro. My least favourite is Camilla (wow, what a surprise). I'm not entirely against fan-service, for example with Charlotte, it makes sense with her personality and motivations. Camilla on the other-hand, not so much. If they really wanted to make a motherly character, they should've probably gone with a different design. As it is in game, her personality comes off less as "the caring older sister" and more of a "I'm here to pander to a certain demographic". Just giving her actual pants or even a dress would've made her a lot better.
  14. My favourite is without a doubt Lon'qu. He's just pretty cool and his backstory is interesting. Really, the only problem I have with said backstory is that it's rarely mentioned and that makes his interactions with some of the female characters a bit awkward. Also, I really like myrmidons. Other favourites are Henry and Inigo. I really like the kinda type Henry is and his critical quotes are my favourites in the entire game. Inigo reminds me a lot of myself personality-wise, especially in his support with his father. Also, he just looks cute.
  15. Just looking at the og roster of Hyrule Warriors I really thought they might pull something completely out of the left field. Sigh, at least they might still choose some of the more interesting characters like, I don't know, Anankos or something. Ah, let's just hope they'll release more information soon!
  16. Maybe it's just because I played Fates before it but I did enjoy the story's moral ambiquity more. Even if I didn't like all the villains at least most of them seemed to have some understandable motivation instead of just being obviously evil. Even if, I was hoping it would turn out that Duma wasn't all that bad after all. I mean, it seemed that he just wanted people to work for their achievements and not just loiter around like Mila's servants. Not to mention Mila seemed kind of evil in that one cgi cutscene. But nope, Duma just went mad, now you have to get rid of him. Also, they made it clear that Rudolf wanted to kill the dragons for the benefit of people, even if they'd hate him for it. But when Alm finally slayed Duma, the people just seemed to forgive him. Weird. The whole argument between Alm and Celica at the end of part 2 just seemed stupid. Celica hadn't seen Alm in years so why did she assume that he'd want to be king or something? Okay, maybe she was just worried about him but it just seemed stupid of her. And one minor complaint I have is Mycen in general. He didn't seem to want Alm to leave Ram village even if he knew that Alm should do this and that and save the continent and whatever. Once again, he could've just been worried about him like Celica but he sure didn't express it in any way. Mycen just seemed to be kind of a jerk to Alm for the whole game. One thing I found amusing was the whole "all dragons have madness inside of them". Even if it probably just meant divine dragons in Valentia and Archanea, it would explain why dragon laguz were so stuck on their ways. But all in all, I liked the story. In fact, I'd say Echoes became one of my all time favourite games because of it.
  17. Favourites: Alm - His comments about about various things on the villages help to make him more likable. For a lord, his stats are commendable too. Alm's also become my favourite lord so far but I haven't finished the game yet, so we'll see. Kliff - Well, just by looking at his design pre-release I could tell I'd like him. I just really like light haired characters. He's also a great mage and pretty much the best unit on Alm's side I have. I also like his personality. Just seeing this kid, who started crying, in the prologue growing into this sarcastic beast on the battlefield is amazing Leon - A very amusing character and seems to be a fairly good archer too Least favourites: Clive - I like his personality and role in the story but his stats are just awful. He gets out-classed by his girlfriend too easily. Est - Once again, my problem with her isn't with her personality. She just joins so under-leveled that I really don't feel like wasting exp on her even if she'd turn out better than both of her sisters combined. Faye - Nothing to really add here what hasn't already been said
  18. I personally write both original and fan fiction and there's definitely both pros and cons to fan fics. There's of course a lot of really bad fan fics out there but people often forget that there's also really bad original stories as well. Bad fan fics are just easier to find online. Of course people are more likely to search online for fan fictions for established franchises than for original fiction. It's easy for more inexperienced writers to find fan fic websites. If I would've used internet more at a younger age perhaps I would've ended up writing bad fan fiction instead of writing bad original fiction in my diary (and those stories were baaaad). If it makes the writer happy and it doesn't hurt anyone, I can't see a reason to complain too much about it. Also, the musical Wicked (and the book it's based on) is basically a fan fiction of Oz and just look how that turned out.
  19. So, most of the stuff I draw can be find over on my deviantArt but I also do weekly drawings, some aren't visible at the moment (I'll probably do a compilation at the end of the year). I might as well post some stuff here too. And I do appreciate feedback, be it negative or positive, as long as respectful. You know, not stuff like "you suck" with no further explanation. A Niles x MaMU comic (not yaoi though, haha) I finished today Some more experimental art of Lon'qu and Navarre. Basically, I wanted to try out something new and made use of an overlay layer and gloop pen on ArtRage. And sure why not some older stuff too
  20. While I do think an entirely new continent would be good for a new game, I've been pondering a few ideas for a while for existing settings. One would be Ylisse before the events of Awakening took place. It kinda bothered me how Chrom told what an awful person his parents were. I think those things could be expanded a bit more. Essentially, if the main character would be Chrom, Lissa and Emmeryn's father, it would mean that at the end of said game, the main lord wouldn't be hailed as some great hero, like in pretty much all the other fe games but might be more of a tragic character. I really doubt that he'd do "hard decisions" because he's purely a bad person (like Chrom kinda makes him out to be) but because he's forced to. I do believe that Chrom's opinions are biased anyway since he felt neglected by his parents. It would certainly be different. Another one is mostly just a what if (heh) story for Fates. Corrin pretty much just ends up saving the world no matter what path they choose. Of course, there's some consequences but I felt like in the end, Corrin's just always right and that's one of the major things that annoy me with the story. So what if Corrin never existed? The story would focus on the child characters because I can't really see Ryoma and Xander striking any kind of peace treaty with Hoshido and Nohr. I've been kinda thinking of making the whole thing into a fanfic so I have been thinking of some actualy plot twists to the story too. But that'd take way too much time to explain so I'll just leave it at that. I always felt that the story in Fates tried to achieve moral ambiquity but never quite achieved that so the story would strive to have more of that. Like, if Xander would die before the story takes place, Siegbert would probably feel a bit inadequate to step into his father's shoes. Let's also say Ryoma dies at the very start of the story and Shiro, being the shounen jump protagonist he is, would set out to find out what exactly happened to his father and make sure to bring the people responsible to justice. So, when these two meet, it would make Hoshidans the aggressor and Nohrians the one that just wants nothing to do with this. Also, I feel like Fates was too gentle with its characters. I'd also like to have the characters go through some tougher times, that isn't Conquest's "I know I'm helping the baddies even if it's kinda idiotic but in the end it'll achieve good things because the magical plot device says so and I'm angsty about it". So, some suffering would be in order. So yeah, I like moral ambiquity and I like tragedies. That does effect what kinda stories I'd like to see.
  21. I probably should've fraced this better. I meant character development as in character having an arc. Of course when creating a character and giving them a backstory etc is also character development but I specifically meant the former. English isn't my native language so I might've expressed this a bit confusingly. As for negative character development I just meant that a character can for example succumb to despair during the story and therefore become the antagonist of the story. The character can still be good and relatable because their actions are understandable or then they can just become utterly despicable and corrupted (I can't really think many examples but like Light in Death Note). Either way they can still be a well-written character. I do admit, I might've used Mary Sue a bit too harshly there. I just don't like her in part 3. I feel like it's partly Ike's fault and she would've been a lot better character if Ike just wouldn't be in the game. Radiant Dawn just has this weird habit of making Ike always be right and that is partly why Micaiah seems to always make the wrong decisions. She isn't really a Mary Sue, she's just a bad person in my opinion and doesn't really get a good character development because of Ike. But hey, that's just opinion and I think it is okay to have differing opinions.
  22. I personally feel like if you're telling a story and your main character's don't change at all during it, there's no point in writing the story in the first place. It's okay for some character's to be static but if it's all of them or it's the main character, the story probably won't be very good. In general, the more important the character is, more unrelatable they become if they don't have that character development. But of course, the fact that a character has development doesn't necessarily mean that they are good character. Often mary sues start out as normal people. When the story progresses, they usually achieve god-like status without any effort. That, in my opinion, is very bad character development. I should probably mention, that bad character development and negative character development aren't aren't synonymous. People often tend to think that character development is always positive but negative character development is sometimes even more interesting (for example, Lyon in Sacred Stones). Sometimes a good person's downfall is relatable. Of course, what one thinks is a badly written character depends on the person but that usually means that the character is inconsistent or their decisions doesn't make any sense. In my opinion, Micaiah for example isn't a very well written character. She's praised by other's as this amazing leader but she constantly makes decisions that are just stupid. If I remember correctly, Sothe doubts her decisions much too late and therefore she's just left as this mary sue that can do nothing wrong. Tl;dr There can be good characters with bad character development and that can make the character bad but there can also be bad characters with good development and that can make the character good.
  23. Tharja? Oh, come one! Why can't they just choose some character's with equal popularity? I cannot say I understand the developer's logic here. It's like they're putting these popular characters on purpose here. Still, she's my seond least favourite (only after her child) character from Awakening so there's no way I'll be supporting her. Well, my favourite out of all of these is Henry but he's probably gonna get destroyed by male Robin so maybe I should go with Sanaki. She's pretty cool.
  24. Rolling to get at least one five star out of this banner but nope, five three stars and none of them are even new. It's almost like this game is rng based or something... The whole god Ike and god Titania were utter nonsense though. I suppose they had to think of something to make the map "defense based" but this just seems stupid. But I did get some amusement out of seeing a five-star level 40 Marth deal 0 damage to a 20-something leveled Titania, whose defense was even lowered. Who needs good defense stats when you can cheat.
  25. Thank you! Yeah, I already noticed that there's a creative section. Seems cool!
