  1. Thani had this to say about this reveal (copy-pasted here if you can't access Reddit):

    Spoiler

UrielBarachiel: Intern-kun at the UK Nintendo Facebook page accidentally spoiled that in the game you have to take down the Church of Seiros (or “Serios” as he says). Not sure if this proves or disproves you.

thanibomb: Oh my! There are different factions of the church. Some are noble in their intentions while some are not. Think of the Begnion Senate but less... black and white? There’s a certain “flame” you have to deal with early in the game as well.

UrielBarachiel: Thanks for the answer! So you say we aren’t going all out and bringing down the whole church like intern-kun accidentally implied?

thanibomb: The whole church? Hmm... I’ll leave that for you to find out! Considering you can recruit some vital members what do you personally think?

UrielBarachiel: I don’t feel like I have enough information to make a good guess. If your leak is all accurate I’d say we aren’t going to bring down the whole church. But for all we know now for sure, Byleth could still turn into a giant demon and yeet Rhea off a cliff.

  2. Let me take a stab at the plot. "Three Houses" isn't going to be Trails of Cold Steel Emblem, Hogwarts Emblem, or Persona Emblem, but rather "What if we put something like Bloodborne's Healing Church in a Fire Emblem game and how does that affect everything?". That said, I think the final boss isn't going to be the dragon who is responsible for the corruption of the crests, but rather a god, Lovecraftian abomination, or greater entity responsible for corrupting the dragon that causes the events of the game to transpire. We've seen dragons pull the strings in most Fire Emblem games, but what if something else was behind the dragon?

Disclaimer: I don't believe in the theory personally. I think it's just Google weirdness.

I don't think this debunks it at all. The fact that anyone could have made these ads has been known. The money was never even in question as far as I saw, what I want to know is: why would someone do something like this that no one may ever find? It's random chance that it was found at all (assuming the person who brought it to the attention of others isn't the one who set it up). This could have been here for months for all we know. And why is this a problem? Because fake leakers crave one thing: attention. They want people to believe their leak and spread it around. Paying for ad space that no one may ever notice and spread around isn't a great plan.

Not if the person or party who set this all up decided to create attention by claiming to have "discovered" the search results. I am suspicious because the links that the advertisements were showing never existed.

The Google leak wasn't advertising a real page operated by Nintendo, though. "www.nintendo.nl/SmashBros/FightersPass" never existed

Possibly. Square's put out a bunch of demos for their higher profile games lately. XV got like a dozen demos.

Well, US Gamer's editor-in-chief claimed to know someone who has played a demo of the game. Whether that demo is for E3, press-only, and/or is to be distributed to the public is not clear. And not all demos make it to the general public.

Matt Mercer and Ray Chase are not in Three Houses, sadly. Robbie Daymond and Max Mittelman have confirmed they are, but not which characters. (my guess is Robbie does Claude and Max does... Someone)

Cassandra Lee Morris hinted she's in Three Houses, same to Erica Lindbeck.

That's all I know for now, because I follow them on Twitter and asked them lol

Don't ask voice actors if they are involved in a game prerelease, as you might get them into huge amounts of trouble (NDA violations and union issues).

  6. Hmm. With Kasumi from Persona 5 Royal revealed, she is most likely the identity of the ever-mysterious "Jane". Anyway, a prominent modder in the Smash community offered his thoughts on Jane a few days ago. Thoughts?

Just popping in a day late to specify that a .mchp file is a cached vertex animation. You take a model, run non-realtime physics simulation on it, and then store the changes each vertex makes throughout the length of the animation into a cache file. This allows you to run an animation that alters each vertex position on each frame to look exactly like it was driven by physics, without it actually being driven by physics. It's stored data that, when played in realtime, appears to be dynamically calculated, and is one of many tricks video games use to render as fast as they need to. It is not simply a placeholder template for any kind of hair, like he offers as a potential explanation; it's specifically linked to the exact mesh and even a single vertex out of place renders it unusable.

I haven't spent any time studying Ultimate or its physics engine to state this definitively, but the mere presence of a cached vertex animation suggests that the in-game hair isn't physics driven at all. It only appears that way because every animation a character has has a corresponding hair animation that was calculated in Maya.

What can we conclude based on this? "Jane" was far enough along in the development pipeline to have cached vertex animation. This means that she'd already have a model, said model would already be rigged, said rig would already be animated, and only then, the animation was used to calculate the way the vertexes will animate. Whoever "Jane" is, she was/is near the very end of the development pipeline, and I very much doubt she's scrapped content for that reason.

Here is what she is not:

1.) Any of the background characters. Joker is still referred to as "Jack" in the code, post-release, while all his party members (most notably, of course, being Ann) are referred to with their respective P5 codenames. Ann is "panther," not Jane.

2.) Morgana. It's been suggested the ponytail is Morgana's tail, but Morgana's tail is not a vertex animation. It's a skeletal bone animation that may have secondary physics attached to it under certain animations, but this is a wholly separate spring joint physics system, rather than cached Maya hair. This sort of system is considerably less expensive to render in realtime and is used all over the place.

This poster is correct that, usually, the female and male alts alternate. This isn't only different gender alts, however, but all separate model alts. The two versions of Link, Ike, Wario, Cloud and Bayonetta also alternate, despite not being divided by gender. Therefore, the alts do not alternate because they are separated by gender, they alternate simply because they're alts. There's a notable exception to this, however. Olimar and Alph are separated with four Olimars, and then four Alphs.

I believe this sets a precedent for characters that are explicitly different characters to not alternate, but instead separate them into two groupings. They may be the same character functionally, but they are not the same character thematically. What little we know about this new Persona girl suggests that, even if she fulfills the same in-universe role as Joker, she is still a different character, being at the very least in a different year. It's likely that, as with P3's female protagonist before her, she'll also have a different name and different personality. Even if she is "Joker," she very much will not be just the distaff counterpart to the male version. We'll know whether this is truly the case or not next week.

There is also the fact that, when a character only has one or two alts, they are always the last costume slots. Mario, Little Mac, and Ridley are all this way, and now Joker is, too, with his c06 and c07 alts being his school outfit. I believe it is completely in line with current conventions if Joker's last two slots were originally intended to be female Joker, perhaps only getting two instead of four because she's not an established character and it's unknown yet if she'd be as warmly received as male Joker has been. And taken at face value, the "Jack6" and "Jane1" strings are connected. If Joker originally had four Jane alts, then "Jack6" would be "Jane3," but if he only had two, then "Jane1" would, indeed, be correct.

With this established, I think the notion that "Jack6_C06_v01_070925.mb" and "Jane1_pony_hairSystemShape2.mchp" are wholly separate strings only coincidentally next to each other in the junk data is unlikely. Possible? Yes. But I'd bet against it. Instead I'll offer a much simpler explanation:

These two separate files are next to each other in the junk data because they were stored in the same folder. Because that's exactly the correct workflow for this kind of thing. Your character file is stored next to its necessary secondary files, like animations and caches. These secondary files are then referenced into the main mb file when needed. This makes it easy to replace them, and the next time you load the mb asset, the new file is automatically loaded in.

  7. Ah, let's examine the Japanese voice actors and some of their past roles!

    • Byleth (Male) - Yusuke Kobayashi (Natsuki Subaru from Re:Zero, Zenji Murai from Food Wars, Caules Yggdmillenia from Fate/Apocrypha ) (Suddenly, the revive mechanic makes a lot of sense.)
    • Byleth (Female) - Shizuka Ito (Luviagelita Edelfelt from Fate/Stay Night, Emma from Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice, Irina Jelavic from Assassination Classroom)
    • Edelgard - Ai Kakuma (Flora from Fire Emblem Fates, Rossweisse from High School DxD) (Hopefully, with no blue hair, Kakuma's character can head to barbecues without problems!)
    • Dimitri #1 - Takehito Koyasu (Niles from Fire Emblem Fates, Navarre from Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon, and more Fire Emblem characters...., Dio from Jojo's Bizzarre Adventure)
    • Dimitri #2 - Kaito Ishikawa (Genos from One Punch Man, Nero from Devil May Cry, Gunvolt from Azure Striker Gunvolt)
    • Claude -  Toshiyuki Toyonaga (Yuri Katsuki from Yuri on Ice, Mikado Ryugamine from Durarara, Asahi Shiina from Free)
    • Geralt - Akio Otsuka (Garon from Fire Emblem Fates, Rider from Fate/Zero, Snake from Metal Gear Solid) (Hopefully he can be a better dad here)
    • Sothis - Tomoyo Kurosawa (Phosphophyllite from Land of the Lustrous, Itsuki Inubozaki from Yuki Yuna Is A Hero, Kumiko Omae from Sound! Euphonium)

No, that's correct. That's why I specified when it clashes with style and tone.

Persona and most JRPGs? Totally fine with anime aesthetics, as long as they're sensible.

A genre that was spawned by a heavily western-style and aesthetic, with tons of violence, and grit in the presentation and gameplay itself? Not really feeling an anime aesthetic on that.

Additionally, these kinds of games also don't really lend themselves to hyper stylized art directions, which is where I feel an anime aesthetic would be more appropriate. JRPGs lend themselves to being ultra stylish a bit better than methodical action games.

Third statement: "Berserk" would like to have a word with you. There's a reason why people think the manga/anime played an influential role on Miyazaki.

Honestly, I am not really that bothered by Code Vein's art direction. Maybe because some of God Eater's stylish and over-the-top sensibilities are in this game and are things that Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and others wouldn't be able to do. From what it looks like, Vein's gameplay borrows quite a bit from God Eater, so I do think it makes some sense for the game to have the aesthetic of its sister game (or is it daughter game because I called Vein the lovechild of Bloodborne and God Eater?).

But then again, you're reading this from someone who found Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance to be too over-the-top for a realistic military setting despite really enjoying the game. But then again, Metal Gear had some pretty over-the-top sensibilities within its realistic aesthetic.

Nothing against your personal taste but there’s an issue I take with this statement. Honestly imho there is no real “anime style” even what can be considered “traditional” can vary drastically depending on the studio and artist. Some studios and artists take great care in making the artstyle match with the overall tone of the story which again leads to subtle yet effective differences in stuff like color choice, character design, animation techniques, etc. which can give some shows their own unique feel and atmosphere. Kyoani is by far one of the best examples of what I’m talking about cause each one of their shows has their own unique color palette to match its tone and feel. Hell trigger have built themselves entirely on a style wholly unique to them. Again nothing against your personal taste as art is a very subjective medium but just my two cents.

Code Vein more or less has the art style and aesthetic of God Eater, which isn't all that surprising since the developer of those games is also working on this title. I think @Slumber meant that he doesn't like the God Eater art style and aesthetic as he feels it clashes with the general setting of this game. I don't think he takes issue with it having an anime art style; I think he feels that God Eater's art style isn't the best choice for this game. Perhaps Junji Ito or Kentaro Miura's art style would have been his personal choice. He can correct me if I am wrong though or to clarify things.

Given that Haar would almost certainly be green, I'm saddened that the hypothetical Koyasu Emblem would still be missing a blue unit.

Koyasu is the John Ratzenberger/Alan Tudyk of Fire Emblem. He's going to voice a character from each installment/continent (I think he already voices someone in Three Houses). Haar seems to be the one playable Tellius character that makes the most sense for him to voice in my opinion .

  11. I am sorta mixed on this game. This game has a very interesting concept and setting, especially with the usage of an AI-controlled companion to guide you. That plus the anime artstyle setting makes me eye this game. But from what I seen and heard from people online, gameplay isn't too hot and appears to be drastically inferior to the Soulsborne games and Nioh. I hope that Bandai Namco and Shift are using this delay efficiently to significantly improve upon the game and exceed expectations because I believe Code Vein can, like Nioh, become a very worthy take on Soulsborne if it hits its cylinders properly. I am not fully sold on the story and characters, though I think the developers are better off focusing on improving gameplay.

Code Vein also needs to be careful where it assigns its release date. It's previous September-October release date put it right into competition with DQXI, Spider-Man, Assassin's Creed Odyssey, and Fifa 19, all of which would have literally eaten the game alive. If Code Vein puts itself into the path of games like any of Nintendo's major releases (Fire Emblem: 3H, Astral Chain, Link's Awakening, Animal Crossing, etc.), Halo MCC PC release, Pokemon, MKXI, Gears 5, or Borderlands 3, its going to be a battle that it will lose hard. Don't get me started if Vein ends up competing with Sony's Death Stranding, TLOU2, or Ghost of Tsushima. A fight between this game and Sekiro would have been a bloodbath for the former.

  12. And here's the Japanese voice actors.

    Ranulf: Tatsuhisa Suzuki (Alfonse, Berkut)

    Lethe: Naomi Ozora (Ylgr)

    Mordecai: Akinori Egoshi (Ignatius)

Caineghis: Hiroshi Shirokuma (Gazef Stronoff from Overlord)

In regards to Haar, I'll laugh if he is voiced by Takehito Koyasu.

  13. Dropping Gallia upon us, eh? Here's the English voice actors.

Ranulf:  Armen Taylor (Deusolbert Synthesis Seven from Sword Art Online: Alicization)

Lethe: Kirsten Day (Natalya/Wisp from Arena of Valor)

Mordecai: Jason Vande Brake (Lightforged Draenei from World of Warcraft)

Caineghis: Jake Eberle (Sendak from Voltron: Legendary Defender)
