  1. So, quick update, I'm at chapter 27 with two paralogues to spare Ignatius turned out pretty good, though I needed him paired up with Soleil to be able to double consistently. Speaking of which... Holy cow is Bow Knight Soleil a menace, especially with replicate. The ability to completely laugh off silver knife maids with shurikenbreaker is so amazing. I don't know why I never used bow knight before. Speaking of which, I took Xander through Bow Knight and I do not regret it at all. Four levels in it and suddenly the hall of pain is so much less of a nightmare thanks to, again, shurikenbreaker. Mozu wound up being more HP screwed than Str screwed; she's sitting at 30 hp at level 15 kinshi knight. Her offense actually still isn't all that great, and she can only do chip damage to anything not flying. But she's handy at least for that. Camilla went to dark knight for levels 16-20 and wound up being quite magically effective. Helps I reclassed Benny to malig knight. Shigure's not doing so hot outside of using beastkillers, staves and replicate to provide oddjob support. I'm hoping to use the remaining paralogues to get him to lance rank A for a brave lance to bolster his offensive capabilities. Incidentally, this is my first time recruiting Ignatius. His paralogue isn't as bad as I had heard, but then I did it just barely after offspring seals show up. I paired him with Soleil and holy crap were their first two supports creepy as hell on Soleil's end. I think I like Ignatius. He's kiiinda like Yarne except he tries way harder to overcome his fears.
  2. Personally I agree that the avoid penalty of the flame shuriken doesn't matter, if only because I would never put a unit in a position where I'm relying on their avoid to save them. If your strategy doesn't work if you get moderately unlucky RNs, it's not a very good strategy. But if you're looking for a glass cannon player phase attacker there are sooooo many better options than Felicia.
  3. With Birthright's inferior enemy AI Xander would steamroll the second half of the game due to his obscene defense. Give him Falcon Knight Selena for res and enough healing items and I think he could damned well solo it. Especially since Nohrian enemies are slower than Hoshidan ones in general.
  4. Hey, so, two things, a question and a general thought: Question: who do people generally pair Jakob up with? Thought: Should availability really be considered in a tier list? Surely the question of "who of the units I have do I want to field on this map?" shouldn't factor how long you've had them for, that doesn't make them any more or less useful for the next map outside of supports. Especially since your army size is limited and gradually increasing. So since Velouria is almost guaranteed to be better than Dwyer once you eventually get her, why should Dwyer be higher on the tier list just because he's been available for longer? How is that relevant when deciding who to field and who to bench?
  5. Right, so, progress report! Currently in the middle of chapter 18, and the run is officially in full swing. Everyone promoted last chapter and I just got Dwyer after chapter 17. I was originally going to wait a chapter, but found myself with a few extra spare master seals and an inconvenient class for the Avatar, so I got him early. This proved to be a mistake, as Dwyer got some astonishingly terrible level ups. Thankfully his main purpose is as a rally and aura bot, but I hope this doesn't hinder his training too much to reach 15 by the end of the game. Anyway, Arthur was decent for a while, but his damned speed got him in the end yet again. Strangely i basically forgot about his crit vulnerability because not only did he get several lucky levels in luck, but his attack stance bonuses with Mozu heavily protected him from crits as well. But yeah, his speed is a measly 15 and I can't justify a master seal and heart seal on that. It's a shame, I want so badly to like Arthur. I can work around his luck, but that speed, he never gets good speed! So yeah, looks like Ignatius will be filling the GK role. His speed growth is surprisingly good with Camilla as his mom, I only hope he can outgrow his probably terrible base speed. I'll figure that out when I get him. Maybe if need be I can pair him up with Azura, that would help with his run-inconvenient personal skill too. Speaking of which... I kinda lost track of Azura's level and had her singing until level 23. I forgot how fast she levels. Anyway, she's out of the party now that Laslow's got his falcon knight access. Mozu's doing okay but she's somewhat strength screwed, reaching 15 at level 20 archer. But as a kinshi knight there are worse stats to be screwed in. Percy is amazing. Continuously good levels, he's catching up in damage output to the royal family! Camilla's doing great too. This is the first time I've had her pair up to fight, and now i see why people speak so highly of her. She's still in malig knight and her magic is growing nicely, though her bolt axe certainly helps. Laslow's doing great too, in falcon knight and training to get Rally Speed. Then I'll switch him to Mechanist for replicate to pass it on to his kids. I'm going to be needing both of them because Niles was a legendary disappointment. 10 strength at level 17! TEN! Dakota, my avatar, is doing great too, though that's a bit of a given. She just left paladin for malig knight and all of her stats are holding out great. Currently paired up with Nyx to unlock DK in time for level 15, then I'll pair her with Jakob. ...Who was great for the first few chapters but then fell way behind again. I made him a wyvern lord for rally defense for Dwyer (Dakota gave her Demoiselle after two levels in strategist) and his speed kept him from staying competitive. Leo's doing... okay. Not fantastic, but he's a decent fighter and he's allowed be in guard stance so he's indispensable by default. I chickened out of making him a malig knight, so he's marrying Felicia. Xander is fantastic. I paired him with Selena right away and gave him a speed wing, and suddenly he's fast enough to double most normal enemies. I'm tempted to reclass Selena from bow knight to falcon knight just to boost his res a bit and make him even stronger. I plan on passing him through Bow Knight to see if I can get him strong riposte and shurikenbreaker, but that's not for a while. Elise got speed screwed, but hopefully that won't stick, and every other stat is growing fine or better. Thanks for your advice, it really helped!
  6. Just barely, actually. The formula for staff accuracy is mag + skill. Their combined skill and magic growths are identical, and their base magic and skill totals only give Felicia a 1 point lead.
  7. Aren't a few of the pots fixed? I've never played the map or seen anyone play the map without the first medicine pot being def+4. And Levant, if your only response to my very simple capture-based solution to your healer problem is to say "I don't care about capture, I don't know what to tell you.
  8. You don't need to train him to get some key early game captures.
  9. It's just three chapters into his recruitment, and it's a healer. It shouldn't be too hard. And outside of your specific scenario you need to bring him anyway for the treasure.
  10. To be fair all you have to do is capture the shrine maiden behind Hinoka the chapter before and then just talk to her once and boom, there's your stand-in.
  11. Yeah, even if I feel he's not worth it in the long run outside of being a skillbot, his utility in the early game as a reasonably durable and strong 1-2 range unit is obscenely useful for chapter 8 conquest, and he does the job of being a skillbot much better than Felicia does anyway. Plus two demoiselles on conquest is redundant in the early game.
  12. (Checks growth rates) Hm... that's... actually not a bad idea at all! I just wish it would let me capitalize a bit more on Camilla's magic since she's really my best non-avatar bet for a malig knight unless Leo marries Beruka or something. ...Hang on... ...would that work out well enough? I could promote Beruka to Malig Knight for better pair-up bonuses, then the Avatar could be the dark knight, Camilla could be a wyvern lord, and Leo could be my malig knight. Any issues besides increased arrow vulnerability among my guard-stance frontliners?
  13. I got the impression he was talking about the removal of weapon triangle. I forgot about the enemy range fields.
  14. Why? All that did in Radiant Dawn was remove tactical depth, and it would do the same here too.
  15. Ah, but you already have a demoiselle unit in Elise, once she levels up a bit.
  16. Yeah, I really wish Camilla had a better magic base so that staying in Malig Knight had more of a point to it. But since I want to have one of every class, I'm kinda stuck since most of the other non-avatar options are even worse, and I'm not locking the avatar out of swords when the Shadow Yato comes along. Thanks for the advice, but I kinda already went through with Mozu. I didn't know if this qualified as one of the threads you're allowed to double-post on when you have something relevant to add, and the thread seemed dead at the time so I went ahead with it and I'm on chapter 12. Either way, whoever I choose to marry Camilla is probably just going to be a pair-up bot, somebody who gets just enough training to promote early and then stays in Camilla's pocket the rest of the game. And I've actually gotten really good levels with this Arthur so I think I'm going to keep using him. Besides, I've checked out Percy's growths as a wyvern lord with Mozu as a mother and aptitude, they're ludicrous, I've gotta have him. And yeah, I'm gonna drop Azura as soon as Laslow marries her, I realized the other day that shelter abuse can't really be done when only the royals can use guard stance.
  17. Did we actually manage to come up with a concrete definition of "efficiency"? That's been a pretty significant point of contention in this thread, all I found that the thread was able to agree on is that it's not as extreme as speedrunning but also several steps above grinding. While my Mozu argument was more of a contention over "chapters spent babying" versus "turns spent babying" (the former Mozu fares just fine in at just one, the latter not so much), Laslow's just a decent unit that you can spend some extra money to make a powerful rally bot. And I don't see why my experience with Laslow being "anecdotal" is relevant unless it can be demonstrated that I got ridiculously lucky with Laslow's growth rates. Laslow isn't like Mozu, he doesn't require any extreme babying to train, and even if we assume that this list is explicitly only with Lunatic in mind, Lunatic doesn't buff enemy stats in Conquest most of the time, so if anything, unless the experience system is different in Lunatic, the increased number of enemies should mean it's even more feasible to get Laslow to level 20/15 by chapter 23, not less. The only thing that keeps my strategy from being repeatable is if I got lucky with his growths. And I didn't. I just calculated his average stats on the path I took him, and he was 1.5 points blessed in HP, half a point blessed in strength (he capped it at level 16), 2 points blessed in skill, a point blessed in speed, even in luck, 2 points under in defense, and a point over in resistance. Perfectly average Laslow stats.
  18. Because most of my army was fragile, and the incoming enemies were largely heavy-hitting berserkers and great knights, and I didn't want to rely on dodging to get them through it because I was playing ironman and I had to assume every attack would hit. So I took my toughest unit, had them bait them, and then had my team perform an all-out assault. And from that turn on I moved forward at a brisk pace. I was a little paranoid because this was an ironman playthrough. That's all.
  19. Not quite sure what part of that image you're referring to.
  20. It really wasn't a hassle at all. And I'm not lying about what levels I got them at. My entire runthrough is completely documented if you doubt me. See for yourself, Conquest starts on this page.
  21. All you have to do is have her sing for him a lot. As long as he's paired up with Keaton to build up their support too he should have no trouble one-rounding enemies so it's not like the singing is better served elsewhere in general.
  22. They don't need to be married until Laslow hits level 20/5 though, or level 20/2 if you want to skip Rally Skill and go straight to speed and strength. It's not like their children are going to be of much use as anything other than paralogue training sessions due to Azura's combat-inappropriate growths (only Shigure will ever be much good, the other child is screwed), so what's the rush? I got them comfortably married by chapter 18, and then after cracking into one or two paralogues out of paranoia of not knowing what chapter 19 would be like (it was my first time and I was going in blind) he had skill, speed and strength for chapter 19, he was a mechanist with Skill Speed and Strength by the end of chapter 21 and had replicate by the end of chapter 23. And this was while also comfortably training and skill-building the rest of my army.
  23. Not on Lunatic, not yet, though I do have a Lunatic file in progress where I have that planned, but I did do it on Hard without a single reset and without a single casualty.
  24. That's not really a problem. He's plenty strong, especially when paired up with Keaton, so getting stuck with e-ranks isn't a dealbreaker. It's only for 6ish levels since if you train up his bow rank while he's a bow knight then he can use bows as a mechanist when he gets there. And if your skill builds involve enough class-hopping through lance or axe classes you can always forge a bronze weapon for cheap if it's really a problem. And Azura isn't difficult to pair up at all. Just pair Laslow up with somebody for strength and maybe speed, and then have Azura sing for him to help him get 2 kills a turn, and more if it's feasible at the moment for him to enemy phase. And I didn't slow down on any map or grind abuse to get him to level 15 mechanist by chapter 23, I just made judicious use of child paralogues. And it's not like reclassing is a major financial hassle. Conquest gives you plenty of cash, oftentimes I find myself comfortably able to purchase a few eternal seals in the last few chapters. And the result is amazing, especially with a physical-heavy team. Basically everyone on your team will have +5 strength and +5 speed at all times, and you don't even have to avoid splitting up since he has replicate. The speed particularly is a huge use to ensuring Xander stays useful no matter what his speed growth luck happens to be.
