  1. Shadow Dragon is pretty good for ironmanning in many respects, but one thing that may be a bit demoralizing, or may flat-out drive you up the wall, is the existence of ambush spawns. It's nowhere near as bad about them as the sequel, but it does in fact have ambush spawns, and a lot of them.
  2. Birthright has issues, but it's probably got the best mix of reasonable difficulty, being upfront about challenges, and letting you replenish your forces. It's also a great practice run for Conquest, which I consider the gold standard of ironmans. Some games I wouldn't recommend are Thracia, Binding Blade, and Three Houses.
  3. Does anyone have Mov+1 on Laslow? That would hugely streamline my battle points grinding. Trying to get max BP before the servers go down. I know it'd be rare as hell for anyone not hacking, but figured I'd ask anyway.
  4. What I've done with some friends is use parsec and an emulator and split control of the army and roster evenly between ourselves, taking turns moving our own units. It's pretty fun, but be warned that coordination can suffer as a result, so be wary of playing games that heavily punish uncoordinated offense. Fates is definitely in the advanced category. Even Birthright Hard can be shockingly difficult if everyone wants to do their own thing.
  5. (Nino's face lights up as she realizes people will actually use her now)
  6. Imagine if instead of "Casual" and "Classic" this crossover called them "Classic" and "Nuzlocke"
  7. Incidentally, for those unaware, we almost got this instead of TMS. That was IS's second choice, they went to Pokemon first but they looked at Pokemon Conquest and went "we have Fire Emblem x Pokemon at home". Honestly, I would absolutely adore this. I imagine something where it would be an SRPG in a medieval fantasy pokemon world where we have trainer units who fight alongside and provide buffs to a battalion of their pokemon.
  8. I mean in fairness, his title is apparently "The Iron King". That's pretty badass.
  9. Regarding Shez: I haven't played Three Hopes, but just on principle I'm not sure I'll ever be able to respect someone who needed divine intervention to survive someone who needed divine intervention to survive a prologue bandit.
  10. It never should have been introduced at all. It must does not gel with the balancing or playstyle of the franchise, and its mere existence makes classic mode appear more intimidating than it actually is. I got into playing the series classic-style when my middle-school ass got FE7 for Christmas. Would I have made the same decision if there were a casual mode back then? Given how intimidated I was by the hard modes, probably not. I would've thought it was too much for me, and as the true timeline attests, I would've been wrong.
  11. Honestly, maybe Arthur? The bulk might be nice for avoiding one-shots from his terrible luck? Cav is probably better for him though just because the class and skills are better. Also there actually is someone who can reclass to knight: Scarlet.
  12. Counterpoint: fighter Keaton is the only reason Laslow can reach his amazing +5 str/spd rally potential. Without that he could have one or the other, but not both.
  13. I agree apothecary would be useful for the most part, but regarding Mozu, she already has access to Merchant, and marrying a ninja is all she needs for Mechanist, so this doesn't really do anything new for her specifically. As for my answer, thinking on it a bit more, I think Oni Savage would be a nice option too. Partly because it's also an absurdly rare class, and partly because it gives him nice symmetry with Keaton.
  14. So I had a bit of an epiphany about Kaden just now. He just might have the absolute rock-bottom worst heart seal option in the entire game. Now, diviner is already bad enough for him, with his 10% magic growth and all. But it gets even worse. Because since his base class is genetic and only inheritable by his children, the class that his lovers and friends inherit is going to be that heart seal reclass option. Now, ignoring the Hoshidan women, who are pretty much a given for support options for any Hoshidan man, let's look at who he can give that diviner class to: Hinata: 0% personal magic growth. Keaton: 0% personal magic growth. Charlotte: 0% personal magic growth. Peri: 5% personal magic growth. Hayato: Already has it. Azama: 20% personal magic growth and mostly already has it. And actually, no, screw "ignoring the Hoshidan women". Even if you look at them, every single last character with anything resembling a decent magic growth who can support with Kaden already has at least one of diviner's two promotion options, with exactly one exception: Felicia. Felicia is literally the only character in the entire game, not counting Corrin, who would actually appreciate the reclass option Kaden gives them. So... I think it's pretty safe to say Kaden's heart seal option is pure garbage. But that just begs the question: If you were to change it, what would you change it to?
  15. For final bosses I wish I could give half a vote to Ashera, because she deserves credit for being really early to the party. Ashera had the right idea about how to be a good boss in a Fire Emblem game before Three Houses refined the concept and Engage actually put that refinement in a good game. But there's very little contest with regard to the best final map, and it's Conquest Endgame. You can't beat Conquest's map design, and I say this even when the final map hits one one of my biggest personal pet peeves: nigh-inescapable debuffs. But it's well-made enough that I can see through my personal dislike of one of its gimmicks.
  16. This, though I wouldn't say nerfed exactly. It can't do both attacking and guarding at once anymore, but now that the enemy can dual strike too, negating the enemy's dual strikes is if anything even more valuable than making dual strikes of your own. Plus, dual guarding is far more predictable and can be made to negate every other attack like clockwork if you know what you're doing.
  17. As much as I hate the bullshit that is the character involved surviving and becoming playable, I really, really love the chapter title "A Hard Miracle".
  18. I am beyond flattered to hear my work still sticks with you all these years later. I had a lot of fun writing it. Unfortunately, I doubt a completion is ever happening. In essence, the corners I unknowingly wrote myself into in the act of improv gradually built up until I was backed into all of them at once. I don't know how I would ever come up with a satisfying conclusion to that thing, especially so long after having initially started it, however much I may wish I could. I haven't given up on writing in general, though, and hopefully you'll see something from me in the future!
  19. In both FE1 and FE11, staffs automatically re-order to the last one used... unless you have a tome equipped. Then they don't reorder at all.
  20. I have reason to believe they used the original FE1 source code as a base, actually. They both have this similar bizarre glitch with staff ordering that I don't believe any other game has.
  21. Helps that it's one of the precious few english language songs in FE canon that doesn't mess with syllable emphasis like an amateur.
  22. Here's one the game actually brings up in Robin and Walhart's support: What if Walhart had been the one to find Robin and they were his tactician instead of Excellus?
  23. Because if you give the class to someone who's already a tank, most notably Silas, then they get strong physical 1-2 range, which is nearly impossible in Fates otherwise. Sol is just an added safety net on a build that is already sturdier than you'd think. As for Odin, have you watched any of the videos of him in action? Like, any of them?
