  1. I still have a soft spot for my speculation on Fodlan's politics that I posted after Thani's reddit leaks, even though it's 98% wrong:

    Quote
    • I don't think it's been confirmed, but I take it that the entirety of Fodlan was once united as one nation (The Adrestrian Empire).
    • The Holy Kingdom of Faerghus may have been the first to split. As we know, the area prides itself on its knights. I'd speculate that the north-west is historically a victim of raids from Sreng and so had a history of building tall castles and maintaining more of a war footing than the rest of the Empire. It may have also been the power centre for Nemesis' faction, pre-unification. Either way, the Imperial family would require a strong, trusted hand to lead it, and so a family member would have been given regional control. Over generations their power solidified and the area's military might allowed them to shift into being semi-autonomous, before officially breaking away. They name themselves a Holy Kingdom to add legitimacy, as their royal family is, just like the Adrestrians, descended from Seiros.
    • The Leicester Alliance is based in the area that was formally an economic hub, where traders from overland to the east would come to buy and sell. From here, goods would flow into and out from the rest of the Empire and the Holy Kingdom. As such, the area became disproportionately wealthy to the rest of the continent, and ties with the eastern neighbour of Almyra grew. I'd also venture that Aegir, to the south, is also a reasonably prominent trading town. Much like the real world, where the wealthy Catalonia region is trying to secede from Spain, the eastern lords likely felt that their taxes going to the rest of the country was an unwarranted drain on them. This eventually led to the prominent personages deciding that the Empire had grown weak, and that a split might be possible. To tip the scales, the von Riegans then sealed a deal with Almyra for military support via marriage, and that support led to them being voted the head of the Leicester Alliance. This would have happened only a generation ago, and while it is nominally a more democratic nation they have yet to actually have a change of power from the von Riegans. Many see Claude as a natural successor, but their is a lot of tension as many others expect a new vote.
    • The von Aegir's may have had a chance to break away as part of the fledgling Leicester Alliance, but instead used that fact as leverage to force the Emperor to give them, or create the position of, Prime Minister. As we know that Brigid pays homage to Adrestria (rather than having been absorbed) and that Petra is attending the Officer's Academy as a show of fealty and to engender positive relations, I think this arrangement might be recent. As such, I speculate that after the Church of Seiros organised a peace with Leicester, Ferdinand's father organised a show of the Empire's strength, and attacked Brigid. The victory would have brought him much renown, and internally he would have a huge power block over the Emperor (who lost the Leicester region, and is seen as weak).
    • After the success of the Leicester Alliance's breakaway, most Almyrans would have gone home, but many would have stayed. They likely faced racism and xenophobia in most of Fodlan, and a large number spread throughout the continent similar to the Romani people in Europe. While some no-doubt turned to banditry, many are likely just trying to live. We know that Dimitri "has a great shadow" and that Dedue "owes Dimitri a great debt". Thani said that Dedue's people were bandits that killed the royal family, with Dimitri the only survivor, and that Dedue's people were killed in response. Only Dedue was spared, at the wishes of the young Dimitri. So I'd say Dedue is one of the Almyran diaspora, and also that while Prince Dimitri is the rightful ruler of Faerghus he has a regent or council of regents actually ruling until such time as he reaches his majority. My main speculation here is that Dedue's family did not murder Dimitri's, but were framed in order for the regents to take over. I'd also suggest that some of the villainous members of the Church of Seiros are the ones acting as regent, and the ones who acted out the murders.

Perhaps this is why people for some reason insist on calling it "the Ukraine". 😛

There are also the Kingdom of The Netherlands (historically the German speaking "Under-lands" - those under sea level, as opposed to the German Highlands and Lowlands) and the Republic of The Gambia (a country "inside" Senegal that's borders are flanking the Gambia River).

It's understandable why Ukrainians don't like people using the "The" though, as it implies Russian ownership. Which is obviously a major issue, as seen with Russia's invasion of Crimea.

@LSM, you were pretty much right on the money with all of your theories. I won't get into details, but I just wanted to say, congrats:)

    Nice...

I suppose you might be too early into the game to know this, but I just have one question at this point: do the lords' personal classes require Class Mastery of the Lord class, to your knowledge?

(Open to anyone - I'm just curious if I should be taking them down that path or going with something more attractive than Lord.)

  4. Byleths will have trouble early on changing into Monk, as they'd rely on Seminars and Training from fellow professors to raise their Reason/Faith up to D. (They don't get Fire until they hit D in Reason, so you can't even use it in battle until that point). And if you spend your Sunday early on doing that, then you're neglecting other things that might be more useful.

I'd say it's probably a good idea to focus on a physical weapon (that you can just equip and train up immediately) and try to woo any Magic requesters with the power of friendship.

  5. I had speculated that you would get a "free" Seminar at the beginning of the game, to teach you the mechanic. It now appears that instead you get a "forced" Seminar.

Looking at some gameplay, it looks like you get to explore the Monastery to begin, then pick which class to teach. After that:

    • The first Sunday (4/27), you can only Explore.
    • The second Sunday (5/4) is skipped, as there's a battle earlier in the week.
    • The third Sunday (5/11) you can only Explore.
    • The fourth Sunday (5/18) you can only Battle.
    • The fifth Sunday (5/25) you can only Seminar or Rest.
    • The sixth Sunday (6/01) is skipped, as there's a battle earlier in the week.
    • The seventh Sunday (6/08) gives you the full choice of Explore, Seminar, Battle, and Rest.

So everyone will probably want to do a Seminar on 5/25. The options for hosts are:

    • Byleth (~D+ Swords, ~D Authority)
    • Seteth (C Lances, C Authority)
    • Hanneman (D Bows, C Reason)
    • Manuela (D Swords, C Faith)

It will be important earlier in that week to change students' Goals if you want to maximise the number of them attending (and benefiting from) the Seminar. Remember: it's always Byleth and up to five students with a Goal in at least one of the hosts' subjects.

In general, Seteth seems by far to be the best choice. He has C's in both of his subjects, and everyone can use a boost to Authority (for Battalions) and Lances (a prerequisite of many Master Classes). Manuela and Hanneman should probably only be picked if you're trying for a Mage or Priest Byleth, or reclassing a student down a similar path. There's not too much of a reason to choose Byleth.

Here's the experience you'll gain in the respective Skills (assuming base ranks, and not entirely confident about how a Weakness effects the calculations). Sorry about the wonky formatting, and apologies for any miscalculations.

  6. Unfortunately, no.

But I wanted to pick out one screenshot from the 4chan leaker. It's a shot of their Byleth on the same Raphael/Ignatz Paralogue from the E3 Treehouse presentation. (I've blacked out one item that as yet is not published knowledge.) They're playing Black Eagles and have already recruited Raphael. Not too many missions later they have recruited Felix and Leonie as well.

As at Treehouse, we see Byleth with the -3 weight reduction that you get from training Armour. The interesting thing to me is that they've managed to get their Byleth to a degree in Armour and Lances where they could recruit Raph and Leonie while in a Sword Proficient class (Mercenary). This signals that it shouldn't be too hard to end up with two Skills at sufficient level to recruit, and that said level might just be around a C.

  7. Hey! Lorenz' haircut is all that's keeping the peace in Fodlan. The peasantry look up at the nobility and wish to cast them down in the name of Liberty, Equality, and Fraternity. But then they realise that at least one of them'd have to get that haircut, and they all nope out of the revolution.

I know this is an ask, but can anyone with a Twitter account maybe tweet at someone with a review copy to see if they could fill out the list?

Here's another question to add to your list. Can you choose explore, do a bunch of free actions (fishing,  amiibo gazebo, talk to people, etc) exit out and still do seminars or battle? As long as no points were used?

In the E3 Treehouse presentation, when the player chose to "finish exploring" (with one action point remaining) the weekend auto progressed to Monday's Tutorials/Goal setting.

...I'm thinking if you master the Commoner/Noble class in TH, you will unlock a similar skill that boosts the characters stats relative to how many classes they have mastered. If that is the case...

Mastering Noble/Commoner seems to give [ HP +5 ] as a Skill Ability.
