  1. The rationality and logic the makers of Heroes operate is bizarre and frightening any attempt the ascertain the future will be met with a near divinely decreed 50% failure ratio. So, yeah, you can be completely right on everything you say and still be wrong. Well we already have female Marth in the form of Lucina's disguise and she is indeed very flat chested. If "assets" are something transferable then I can only say that the world is not ready for the bulge that would be Male Camilla.
  2. I'll also add that if you do pass the turn limit on any of these chapters then you'll get a cutscenes where Roy or someone else will say that it's taking too long and that they won't be able to longer in the area, or the boss form the Paralogue itself will appear to declare they've already stolen the weapon. So as long as your don't let the requisite characters die, you can freely reset should you fail to clear the chapter in time, and even on the character front, Lillina, Sophia, Douglas, Juno and Dayan are all obtained on the same chapter as the one leading to the paralogue. So the only characters you really need to watch out for are Zealot, Sue, Sin, Miledy and Zeiss. Also don't break or have someone holding a legendary weapon die. As far as I know, you don't just need to visit the Paralogues, the legendary weapons need to actually be intact and in your inventory in some capacity by the time you reach the end of the game.
  3. Well the context of the scene is young Male Robin and young Female Robin meeting for the first time. Wherein everyone comments on how odd that is and begin to speculate what other versions of themselves they could meet. So Robin wouldn't, or couldn't really say it because they're already doing that.
  4. All you doubters saying it can be done. Young Emmeryn is with me! (Though the people saying it might be a bad idea might still be correct) (Also for those without context, this is a sequel thread to this)
  5. Well that does back to my original comment on this thread where I said it sounds like the developers would be expected to make three different games for the cost of 1.
  6. I think you're right in the broad strokes, but that open choice dungeon order can still be pulled off. A Link Between Worlds manages to strike a decent, though not perfect, balance between an intended order for dungeons and a free choice order. Though to pull that off they had to, effectively, give you access to every item at once and simultaneously not allow more than one weapon to function per dungeon. Which is, just kind of weird.
  7. I'm not an expert at all, but from what I can gather, cards were not released around any grand theme, but obviously they want new cards to syngerize with each other. So it'd be like a little from column A a little from column B. It seems each series has released from all of the titles (or rather continuities, rip Thracia's individuality), and within those titles there's some kind of connection between units...and then also some completely random choices. The most baffling one for me is the Disciples of Order, generic enemies that don't seem to have support or relevance to any other card, even Ashera herself.
  8. We'll, bare in mind it would, possibly, be the same event as in Genealogy (Thracia's timeline is in sync with Genealogy for the previous chapter and this chapter) which would soften the repetition a bit...if it does happen, I'm not saying it does or it doesn't... yet.
  9. Yes. There were a total of 8 Cipher OCs and only four (Randal, Emma, Yuzu and Shade), of them appeared in Shadows of Valentia. The other four who haven't been in any of the games are Alice, Valjean, Poe and Niamh (pronounced Neeve, for those who don't know). Shame they weren't the DLC in Three Houses or something. I doubt they'll appear in any games now with Cipher dead.
  10. From the looks of it, that's a straight up better card than Fallen Wrys. But I still like Fallen Wrys better.
  11. Guess how many of them are bosses in Thracia 776? (Genuinely @pingtell me your guess for how many named characters from this chapter you fight in Thracia when you're done with it, I'll give you a hint, the number is not zero and it's not nine) We'll actually I was specifically thinking of the one later on who Ced talks to with a village background, but it can be both. And in a "Ced-exists sideline-Hawk timeline" the rebel leader's interlocutor can be a bit more calm and pragmatic about the situation (and then a panicked generic npc in the "Ced-non-existent Hawk-leader timeline")
  12. It's weird to think that it was only around for five years. Feels much more like an established part of the series. We've almost had as many years post Cipher as we've had Cipher.
  13. In my different backstories for the subs thread I suggested making this guy be Hawk in the timeline where Ced exists, to show Hawk is still there and fightinging even if he's not the acquired playable character. It's no issue, Travant feeds his wyvern population using Soylent Green methods. Keeps the peasent numbers down to better share the crops too.
  14. Seeing it phrased as choose-your-own-adventure so much reminds me that Zelda genuinely got a pair of choose-your-own-adventure books in the early 90s.
  15. Ike and Mist had child designs. It's not 1:1 with how they designed them in Heroes but it's not radically different either. Of course they had to spruce it up a bit because Ike only wore a boring ass t-shirt in his flash back. Their hair styles are largely the same, Mist has shorter hair like her Path of Radiance design and Ike has hair that's messy but a bit shorter than he later would as an adult. And depending on how willing you are to stretch the definition of child, Marth has his Shadow Dragon prologue outfit Of course the actual design they used for child Marth was his classic pantlessdesign
  16. Oh yeah, I'm sure it's some kind of special run of cards, because it's all main lords that get it, usually even with their world map or something in the background. It's definitely not a significant % of Cipher's overall library, I was just surprised to see it.
  17. 57 playable characters didn't get into Cipher. At the time of writing this, Heroes has yes to add 242 playable characters, but that's including 49 playable characters who did not exist (or were not playable) when Cipher ended (ie the cast of Engage and new player characters in Three Hopes). These 58 characters who didn't get into Cipher are as follows Alva, Amalda, Beck, Belf, Boah, Brighton, Caesar, Cain (Thracia), Carrion, Cecil, Conomore, Creidne, Dagdar, Dalsin, Dalvin, Dart, Deimne, Dice, Dolph, Duessel, Frost, Galzus, Garret, Geese, Geitz, Giffca, Glade, Harken, Hawk, Hicks, Homer, Illios, Isadora, Old Karel, Lorenz (Archanea), Macellan, Marty, Young Merlinus, Moulder, Muirne, Nealuchi, Niime, Radd, Ralf, Reiden, Renning (as Renning, he has a card as Bertram), Robert, Roberto, Roger, Salem, Sleuf, Tomas, Trec, Troude, Warren, Xavier, Ymir, Yoder and Zeiss. Of these unfortunate 58; Duessel, Galzus, Harken, Isadora, Niime and Salem have got into Heroes. Of the lot the one that is most surprising to me that they didn't get a Cipher card is Duessel. He's a rather noteworthy characters who could be made to look sufficiently bad ass and with a reason to be powerful. On the NPC side of things there are 130 characters who are on CYL (at the time Cipher finished) and didn't get a Cipher card. I won't list all 130 names, but I will mention the individual characters I am surprised didn't get a card. Chief among them is Duma. Shadows of Valentia was released during the height of Cipher's popularity, there are literally Cipher characters in Shadows of Valentia, so it's very surprising Duma is nowhere to be seen. Rudolf also didn't get a Cipher card (but Jedah did). There's a Freyr card and not a Freyja card...which is really weird because Freyja is the main antagonist of a Heroes book, meanwhile Freyr is forgettable enough to not even be playable in Heroes despite originating there. There's also a bunch of Laevatein cards but no Laegjarn cards Other characters I'm surprsied aren't there that I'll just list quickfire style, Bramimond, Caellach, Cornelia, Gustav, Hel, Hilda (Jugdral), Ismaire, Jahn, Jarod, Kempf, Orson, Thales and Ylgr, among many more. Overall Cipher trended a lot more towards playable characters than noteworthy villains and NPCs. But sometimes they did give very minor antagonists their day in the sun. I think it's well known that Gromell from Path of Radiance and the three Mage Sisters from Jugdral have cards. What's more surprising is that Excellus has a card. Like, was he really going to sell more decks than someone like Mustafa? And, of course, because someone obviously loves her, freaking Dithorba has a card. Have to look up the dates on that one to see if Heroes or Cipher were copying one another with the Dithorba love or if it was a joint project. At least Cipher had the decency to include Pamela too. The neglect of antagonists and major NPCs is even more surprising given they actually gave us some cards for generic enemies. For example, a Fates Automaton, Bael/Gorgon monster card, the Dicsiples of Order (but no sign of any named Disciples of order like Catalena, Levail...or even any of the Senators), a Risen and Risen Chief card, a Witch and a Faceless card (but no Anthony, an actual named Faceless character). These generics seem to be in for mostly gameplay reasons as decks you can use to swarm the opponent. If that's the case, then I'm actually a little disappointed that Dolth, of all people, didn't get in, since he's the guy that summons Necrodragons and there is an actual Necrodragon card, there could definitely be some deck synergy there. These generic characers make up a list of 34 characters who got a Cipher card but aren't on CYL, whom I will list as I find it interesting. There's the nine generic enemy cards mentioned above, the 8 Cipher original units (including the 4 from Shadows of Valentia who still aren't on CYL), some characters from the Binding Blade manga; Al, Celdia, Gant, Jemmie, Kilmar, Tiena and Zeed, the aforementioned minor bosses Banba, Eriu, Fotla and Pamela, Rowan, Lianna and Darios from Warriors, Feh the Heroes messenger owl, Fomortiis (who absolutely should be on CYL, it's ridiculous he's not) and Rajaion (who probably should be on CYL too) and Soan. And now a list of other random thoughts after sifting through all the Cipher Cards. This is a seperate analysis to this blog post, which is worth reading https://fireemblemtcg.tumblr.com/post/652782193757814784/cipher-by-the-numbers-a-statistical-look-back-at And here is my own data base where you can see all this information presented (on the same data base as all my Heroes information) along with all of the Cipher cards together (sans duplicate and signed artworks), which I think I might be the first to actually do. All the other displays of Cipher cards I've found online sort by the various deck releases. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/15xCEE3dd2wjXVgzQS6mMWGya_M_tYRYMR5bcMC3qA5Q/edit?usp=sharing
  18. I think a lot of players would naturally send their flier down to help Leif. They just naturally seem more like the characters in trouble (even though depending on how you do inheritance they probably aren't) and saving the villages seems like something you need more free units to maximize efficiency at. Meanwhile the instinct for Shannan and thiefgirl would be to run away, rather than turn around and just annihilate the place they were just escaping in the narrative. I have tossed around the idea of making a thread where I recommend players new to the series to play Genealogy as their second or third game, because the gameplay really is a lot better and a lot more fun when you're...bad at Fire Emblem. That's the funny thing, I think they explicitly say that Julius isn't using a staff to warp around and using his own powers...and then Bloom also earlier warped away without explanation as to how. I guess we should conclude he was using a staff because Julius is specifically stated not to, but when no self warping staff exists in the game then it's a bit of a weird...I don't know if gameplay story segregation or integration is the right term here. A weird thing. Let's just say that. Or, just that he had a secret return ring in his inventory and Connacht was actually his home castle.
  19. Can Pegasus Flight stack with itself now? At least then you'd only need to be filling the condition once to activate it, though still situational at best to have a skill that depends on comparing both your speed and res against the enemy's. I get what they were going for with Pegasus stat lines but it just makes it a case of not having any solid reason to use it. Pegasus having high res also theoretically means you want them to attack mages, who also have high res and thus the skill doesn't work on. Of course by this point in the game it feels like none of the four stats are particularly meaningful outside of absurd attack stacking and damage reduction.
  20. Sounds like the developers would need to make three distinctly different games and sell them as one when they could just make three games and sell them as three games.
  21. The route Seliph took would necessitate traveling through the entirety of occupied Isacch. Maybe she went due north to reach Tir Na NOg from the west. You can visit these villages with Fee (or Hermina) who could relay the information to Seliph. He visibly warps away on screen (turns out Kaga made Thracia entirely to canonize the existence of Rewarp staves).
  22. Oh, yeah, one last note on this chapter before we leave it. I am fairly sure that Javarro, Ares's adopted dad, is meant to be localized as Javert, and that I solely have been able to deduce the madness that is Kaga's translated western names. None of the fan translations call him this, nor does the offical localization (because yeah, as obscure as he is he actually has an officially translated name, Lost Lore be weird that way). I say this despite the extra vowel sound placed at the end of the name because Javarro is apparently a name with no proper history and Dumas is already an arena enemy in the game, so it looks like it's working on that Tolstoy logic someone pointed out earlier (sadly there doesn't seem to be a Val Jean in the game, but decades later Fire Emblem would get a Val Jean as a Cipher OC). Usually I'd go to a Wikipedia article and change to Japanese to see if the name has been rendered in katakana that way before, but whomever localized Les Miserables went the extra mile of giving Inspector Javert a kanji name it seems Related to the above, Fanore is my personal localization of Phinora, so that's what I was referencing in my previous comment, in case that was unclear. As for Kagaland inheritance rules, I would say that Jugdral is not Archanea...but also that leaves us with a distinct lack of precedent. Do the bad guys believe Ishtar os Queen of Leinster after Bloom dies? They never say, but I don't think they ever explicitly don't say either (in fact I can't recall Ishtar ever being referred to as a princess). Marth also seemed to be just really attached to that prince title. Like, sure, during Shadow Dragon we have some justification about exile and not having your land and stuff...but then there's a three year gap between Book 1 and Book 2. Is it really that hard to organize a coronation over a span of three years? Give the people an excuse to celebrate, they deserve it after the occupation and winning the war.
  23. Thr thing about Sylvia's survival is that they designed Coirpre to look about fourteen for some strange reason. So she and whatever variable husband she had kind of had to survive for at least a bit afterwards. No Cross Knight girlfriend attention to detail here, even though they expect you to not visit at least one village until the end of the map when you can haul Leyla's ass over there. Oh...yeah...or that. Still a stupidly cryptic secret event. The thing with speed is that it is binary, when it should be modular (I think that's the right word). Speed essentially has three tiers. "Too much speed, you double everything" "Not enough speed to double anything" "So little speed you get doubled". Logically enemies should come at you with a range of speeds that means it's not three categories, some enemies will double you, you'll double some enemies. But the enemy and player stat lines turn it into all or nothing. Therefore, I suggest speed not be a growable stat. Instead, make it a class based stat like movement. Certain classes will always double other classes and what classes will double or get doubled by what other classes is spread out on a wider scale than the effective three tiers we have now. And, or course, Speed Wings is not a super valuable item like the Boots as it can let a character go beyond the speed confines built into their default class. I know it's in the Thracia opening, but...does Leif actually know that? How did word of Quan's demise reach Leinster? Since it was a total party kill on Quan's part the news would have only trickled in once the Empire secured an alliance with Travant. Before then Quan's just MIA and who can say when he died relative to his father? Of course someone does manage to tell Sigurd ad Fanore Castle somehow. Alternate theory, Leif is insecure and grandson of the king sounds less impressive than son of the king.
  24. Oh absolutely. Even if the backstories are to be left the same (which they inevitably will be if that remake ever manifests) Ethnia should absolutely have a cameo, or at the very least a mention, in Gen 1.
