In my honest opinion and with my experience as someone in a leading position, you cant allways have a pacific solution. As terrifying as that sounds its the reality and if both sides arent willing to compromise or sacrifice anything on there part, there wont be a pacific solution because someone allways has to pay the price, and most of the time a compromise ends in a loose/loose situation where neither side is satisfied with the consensus they have, thus there is allways the lingering possibility/conflict of one side trying to overthrow the other side later on. If i was in Edelgards shoes I wouldnt trust Rhea either, but i also understand why Rhea wouldnt trust Edelgard. In that regard i believe that Rhea would have not been willing to bulge or move from her position. Of course there needs to be a base of understanding for each others side to even have a chance on a pacific solution.
Edelgard is also not willing to bulge or move from her position, so in that regard this option is from a realistic point of view out of the question.

In my honest opinion Edelgard had no other choice then to work with the "people in the shadows". Yes they did bad and horrible things, but if you think about it from a logic standpoint. The Adrestian Empire was allready infiltrated by the "people in the shadows", which means the Adrestian Imperators power and control was allready compromised (and thus Edelgards power). There was only 2 possible ways:
fight the Shadowpeople head on resulting in a Civil war and by thus weakening the Adrestian Empire significatnly, which would have made it probably impossible to even later tackle on the holy church OR would haven even opened up the possibility of another Country to attack the Adrestian Empire in this weakened state.
work with the Shadowpeople while keeping your own "hidden agenda" in check and accomplish goal number 1: overthrow the holy church, while preparing inside to later eradicate the Shadowpeople inside when the right moment presents himself. This is very delicate to do but doesnt leave much weakness open.
We also dont know what was ordered from the Shadowpeople upon Edelgard as a task/assignment. I mean she prolly had to do things she really didnt want to do, but had to because otherwise her influence and intel gathering would have gone down or her cover would have blown up.

Leaders that make decisions based on Intel and a realistic outcome are never liked by all. As a ruler/king/leader you also have to make the unpopular choice which isnt liked by most people but will pave the way for a better and revolutionized future. This is the hardest to do and allways takes a toll on one owns mind, but in the end it has to be done, when there is no solution in near reach. You can allways say later on when all has passed by that there is another solution, but was that solution reachable in an timely manner? Would it have had the desired effect?
You also need to consider that the Time is allways ticking, Edelgard can only keep a charade up for so long before it falters. The shadowpeople also gain more power and control over time in the Empire, the longer she waits, the harder it would be for her to later get rid of them.

Even pacific leaders ended up succeeding thanks to violence and other stuff from outside, like what happened with Ghandi, his work only really give him fruits because of the actions that happened in the World Wars, weakining the British Empire, someone like him wouldn't have ever do anything in other circunstances, and India probably would have ended up being decolonized in another way probably with more violence.

There doesn't exist wins without sacrifice, just wins that ended up being white-washed for the sake of propaganda; thinking otherwise is naive.

What can I say about the topic... Hm... I can start saying that I don't like Edelgard... as the protagonist/heroine. I like her in the villain role.

I just don't agree with Edelgard's methods to how reach her ambitions. It's pretty controversial, in my opinion.

Of course, I agree with her about the Crest System having some problems and that it should be fixed, like how it ruined families (Sylvain and Mercedes are good examples of it), but I don't believe her way to deal with it was the right one... especially not working with the ones that did all the bad things to her. Yes, her brothers were all killed because of the Crest System, but it was not the Church that did all those things. I still believe that maybe there was a pacific solution, by using her position as the emperor to make a reunion with all others leaders plus teh archbishop and discuss about the current situation of Fódlan, but still...

While playing Crimson Flower, I never had a moment when I thought "I am doing the right thing". I had this thought while playing Azure Moon and Verdant Wind, but not with Crimson Flower, because I don't agree with the way she does what she does.

Outside this things, I also don't think she is that likable either... I am not a huge fan of her personality and her behavior. But she is not all about low points for me. Sometimes I saw something nice on her... but not always. With Claude and Dimitri, I liked those characters right away, while with Edelgard... it never happened.

I don't know Dio... Dimitri's behavior kind of disturbs me; and I think the game kind of force you into a position where you need to do a "right thing" (which I can understand, helping people feels nice, but that isn't exclusive to Dimitri), because the alternative is letting this grief-driven duty-obsessed mad dog against the world and killing everything that looks like an enemy until he dies.

At least with Edelgard I know we actually have a plan.

  4. The people that wrote the script should have checked Kaga's notes

BTW, as far as I remember, Valm (the continent) during the times prior to Awakening (I don't remember the exact time frame, but was basically before the whole deal with Walhart) was divided, with the Valm "Empire" being just the country in the north (which is smaller than the former Rigel Territory).

The Senators and people inside the tower were actually depetrified by Ashera to act as her army.

But there's also Tormod and his two Laguz buddies, and Izuka, Feral Ones, Bastian, and others that weren't anywhere near Yune, but had survived. And frankly, I wouldn't consider a few of those guys to be in the "strong" category. It feels like a copout, if anything.

Oh thanks for the reminder, I actually forgot how was exactly the deal with the Senators and related, because there were also ones that were unlikely to be in the Tower (Numida and Valtome).

This are pretty much the ones that apply in the vague category, I can buy Muarim being strong enough to outstand the Judgement (though that is clearly a stretch), and maybe Izuka cheated death/petrification somehow (that freak...), but yeah, the only reason we have Tormod, Vika, Bastian, etc. is because of gameplay reasons.

No happy endings. Also, I doubt it was even the "strongest" when I hardly consider quite a few of the cast of RD to be under the concept of "strong" to have resisted the petrification.

The people outside of Yune's protection that survived the Judgement were:

    • The people inside the Tower (the surviving Senators, which I imagine managed to bullshit their way into safety)
    • The Branded (Amy and Stefan)
    • Dheghinsea and his dragon guard.
    • Caineghis and Giffca
    • Other characters that is unsure if they ever managed to be in Yune's protection or not (the non-main playable characters)

    But yeah, no happy endings.

    And risk OMNICIDE.

That's literally the danger of Lehran's Medallion.

In fact, Lehran's Medallion DID nearly break with the spirit of war. The RD cast were LUCKY that Ashera's Judgment is petrification, and not literal death of everyone. Then you would not see the Laguz Alliance's war for the sake of justice for the Serenes Forest Massacre to be so righteous anymore.

It would be quite disturbing (but also amusing) if Ashera's judgement attack actually managed to kill all the weak ones... A world where only the strongest Laguz and the Branded could have survived besides Yune's protected ones.

Right? They got so many seasonals I hadn't noticed that PoR/RD haven't gotten a banner in a while. I've been too focused on the Awakening drought.

Tellius would be great; I've wanted Dheginsea for a while, but I also really want some more Awakening units. I guess the former could get a New Hero banner and the latter could get a seasonal banner.

I also really want more Three Houses units but I'm assuming they'll get a summer banner soon as the game's first proper seasonal banner, as only Sothis has a seasonal thus far.

Now that you mentioned it... Besides Glorious Archer Lucina and Crowned Exalt Chrom, Awakening hasn't got an alt since... Summer 2018, which is quite amusing.

Also, the only Awakening to be released in between the previously mentioned Lucina and Chrom were: Panne (Added with the Fates Beast in February 2019), Naga (Mythic Hero in May 2019); Kjelle, Brady, Yarne, Nah and Cynthia (From a Future Past, released in June 2019).

This is quite strange considering the Awakening cast is considered quite iconic for a lot of people.

It's going to suck if we don't get any more Fates units. I REALLY want Nyx and Benny.

Oh don't get me wrong, I actually want to see Nyx in the game, I'm just thinking... "At this moment, Fates has arrived to that point, where the things left to grab are closer and closer to the bottom of the barrel".

  10. I'm that kind of guy, that rarely ever gets to hate a character; I'm so soft that I think my opinions of characters always improve even it began being a negative one (like with Nyx for say an example). But there are some characters I still have overall negative opinions.

Hilda (FE4): Kind of obvious choice, she was designed to be hateable after all, specially if you put some value into Tailitu and her children.

Sonia (FE7): More or less same deal as Hilda, though at least she is kind of pitable I don't know why Sonia always reminds me of Lust, the Homunculus.

Soren: Something about him makes me feel... annoyed; I think I have something personal against him because I'm not even sure why I don't like him.

Sylvain: Oh this guy as such an awesome name... Just a shame he's an asshole; I think this is the only character in the franchise as far as I can remember where my final impression about him is actually WORSE than the initial one... When someone can get away with being an asshole, specially with women and nobody can do anything about it.

It still comes across as, rather than you asking us how we'd handle it, you outlining your own opinions of how you think it should be handled and asking us to fill it in.

I'm plenty interested in exploring my own take on the question from the title, but not this one.

I think he really wanted avoid people just making 10 Banners of Three Houses and ignore the older games, or something like that... Of course, things doesn't exactly ended up like he expected.

  12. 8 minutes ago, Othin said:

The thing is that expectations aren't static. The more characters get added, both from a given game and from the series as a whole, the more will seem like they "should" be added. That's how they keep people engaged for so long.

Yeah, that is right, expectations aren't static, and people can feel whatever they want about what is required or not.

In my case at least, I think Fates has gotten to a point where they don't have anything particularly important to add, because besides Anankos (a Mythic Hero candidate) anything left to add are side characters, and there isn't a clear favorite among them to be the next unit as far as I remember, so... I think my expectations of Fates at this point will remain static.

I agree only partially. I feel like Rinkah was also necessary for the game to feel complete because of her role at the very beginning. Same thing for Flora because of her connection to Felicia, Jakob and Gunther, and Mikoto for that one important moment of hers. And to a lesser extent the Kanas+Shigure because of Heirs of Fate.

But now the roster feels complete on that we can agree.

Oh well you're right, I was actually considering putting Rinkah and Fiora into the "maybe" category too, precisely because of that xD.

And yeah, Shigure and the Kanas are kind of the obvious choices for the children units.

Cordelia's exclusive Weapon with special Refine is only really good on a slow Brave build. It does not synergize well with Desperation since there is only a small HP range where both will work, and it does not work with Wings of Mercy Dancers/Singers. You could go for a fast Brave build for damage output using Spd Refine so it synergizes with Desperation and Wings of Mercy, but I think most players rather use ranged units for damage output instead.

Melee nukes' niche over ranged nukes is their ability to Galeforce, and Slaying Lance is better than Cordelia's Lance for that purpose.

Firesweep melee fliers feels almost like using ranged units, and it is pretty decent on a map with lots of obstacles and land enemies, although it is less powerful if there are not as many obstacles or if the enemies are mostly fliers. I still rather use Firesweep Bow, but for players on a budget, Firesweep L is so much cheaper.

Yeah, overall Cordelia's lance is mostly an improvement over the Brave Lance+ set (which probably is still used for some considering it's part of her base kit).

I like that you recognize that more important players are missing from Awakening compared to Fates.

IMHO a cast isn't really represented enough when we are still missing two things:

1: The two most notable antagonists. Which for Fates would have to be Garon and Iago (who are both now in the game). Garon is the bad guy used in marketing and Iago is a villain in all routes and was notable enough to represent Fates villains in Warriors.

For Awakening the two most notables would be Grima and Gangrel/Validar. I can't decide whether to give the spot to Gangrel since he is the major antagonist of the first half of the game and the half that's more liked or Validar for being a villain for the entire game, the villain at the VERY beginning and notable enough to represent Awakening villains in Warriors. In any case of the three only Grima is in the game.

2: The most notable good NPC who is important for the plot of the game.

In Fates we have Mikoto and Lilith who are both in Heroes.

In Awakening we have Emmeryn who is arguably more loved, important and well-known than Mikoto and Lilith combined but is still not in the game for whatever reason.

Because of this two point I can agree that Fates is represented enough as it is and any further additions would be for the sake of minor characters who are still loved by fans, to bring the completion percentage even closer to 100% or to add some characters who don't have much presence but are still notable for story/lore reasons (Anankos, Arete, Sumeragi, Shura).

But Awakening? Nah. It's more represented than other games but not represented enough IMHO. After we add Gangrel, Validar, Emmeryn, and while we are at it, Basilio and Flavia we can talk.

Oh wait you're right! Fates has arrived to the point where everything left to add is going to be just neat souvenirs, the cherry on top... Anankos is the only "important" pick from Fates that left, and he'll likely be a Mythic Hero anyway.

In fact since the RELEASE date the only characters that were left to make Fates feel complete were Garon and Iago; maybe Kaze and Lilith.

In release date we already have the main characters (The Corrins and Azura), most of the important noble characters (the siblings) and the members of the Corrin's club (Felicia, Jakob and Gunther); we even have the retainers of the noble siblings already, with the only exception being Kaze (another member of Corrin's club).

  16. Well, I was just as I imagined, the Banners that designed units as powerful completely on purporse (Brave Heroes and Fallen Heroes) are absent from the 4 Star Focus thing because of the gameplay and character traits.

It really makes sense; you can't really drop someone to the lower pools because they're all designed to be powerful desireable units, and the alternative (making one of the banner units clearly the dude skill wise), then people will complain about favoritism or shafting or something.

Poor Dark Celica BTW, I hope she gets a refine at least as good as Base Celica's.

Okay, it just occurs to me that myself and many others have gone WAY off topic and this has, YET AGAIN, to another Edelgard discussion and who's right and who's wrong.

This topic is just me stating why I cannot hold the most sympathy toward Rhea as other do. So I would like to request everyone to also remember that this topic is about Rhea and her issues PRIMARILY.

So please, let's get back on topic.

It's' quite funny how unless a topic it's completed gameplay related will at some point create a Edelgard discussion, hahahah xD.

    Rhea is thick BTW (?)

  18. 5 minutes ago, omegaxis1 said:

Also, given how Loog's Rebellion was something that was indicated to have had the backing of the Agarthans, I don't get why Rhea didn't investigate into this either, especially given how Loog had attained weapons that were similar to Relics, which oughta have been more red flags.

This makes me think... Loog had prototypes of the Arrow of Indra and similar stuff?

  19. I'll think if go for in deep later, but just for a Top 10 I would probably pick:

    1.- Micaiah

    2.- Sanaki

    3.- Mia

    4.- Ilyana

    5.- Mist

    6.- Zelgius

    7.- Elincia

    8.- Jill

    9.- Sothe

    10.- Haar

Yeah, I think something like this.

  20. 8 minutes ago, omegaxis1 said:

Yeah. The game certainly loves to give Dimitri flashbacks and lots of CG images to make you feel bad for him. But give Edelgard and Claude nothing regarding that.

Well, to be fair, there is something to think about these potential CGs...

When you would actually reveal Claude's Almyran origins?

And Edelgard's backstory includes content that may or may not be viable to be put in a Teen/B Rated Game

  21. Okay, so make all this clear.

Amyr is the weapon that essentially works like a Hero's Relic that is a fake one (like the Dark Version of the weapons in Verdant Wind), needing Agarthium to be repaired (instead of more... "natural" material), but these weapons still need a Crest to actually work.

    Right?

And about the topic of multiple copies of Crests... I think one way to answer this is to ask IS or KT about's Flayn's Mother's Crest.
