Yeah, it was just speculation from a while ago though. And a bit of wishful thinking.

Oh crap, just noticed the date. Yeah, it would be nice to see, but unlikely. What IS likely though, is a port of FFVII Remake and/or KH3. Both run on Unreal Engine 4, which can both be optimized for the Switch. I'm willing to bet the former, considering Cloud's (somewhat random) inclusion in Smash. I mean he has never been on a Nintendo Console, and Final Fantasy games haven't exactly been on Nintendo consoles for a long time.

So before the Switch Presentation, I had a thought that I considered had a chance of happening. Considering Square Enix's partnership with Nintendo, I figured Final Fantasy 15 would be among the announced games.

They already stated they aren't bringing FF15 over, it's a matter of power. The engine used isn't optimized very well, and even runs poorly on the Xbox One, which is much more powerful than the Switch.

Yeesh, this place is a war zone. But yeah about what I expected from IGN and GameInformer. They are some of my least favorite reviewers ever. I was pleasantly surprised by GameSpot's review and the GameXplain one was what I expected as Derrick seems fond of classic FE games.

Yeah I have immense respect for Derrick. After starting with the new entries, he went back and started playing some of the older ones like the GBA games and Path of Radiance right now. It proves that he is actually into the series, unlike some other reviewers.

"My dreams of hooking up devil-may-care mercenary Saber with pious priestess Celica were dashed because there’s no marriage system."

What did I just read. This is what people expect of Fire Emblem now I guess. This reviewer is also pretty disgusting. Isn't Celica 15 and Saber like in his 30s?

There is one thing that I dislike, the pronunciation Falchion. My whole life has been a lie. I always said Fal-she-on, but it is apparently Fal-chin.

Other than that, I loved the voice acting, it was amazing. I especially love Mila's voice.

I always pronounced it as Fal-key-on, so this is strange to hear.

You do know that the voice acting doesn't really have much to do with Treehouse? The voice acting for Fates was recorded at Formosa Interactive and Kris Zimmerman-Salter who is well known for voice directing the (mostly) realistic Metal Gear Solid games is also the voice director for Fates. I guess she doesn't do as well with anime-esque games like Fates? Patrick Seitz is the voice director for Awakening which was recorded at Cup ofTea and he's very familiar with anime and anime-esque games, so I guess that might be why the voice acting in Awakening is better. There's also the fact that Fates used a couple of VAs who don't do anime at all.

What I'm saying is that the quality of the voice acting doesn't usually have anything to do with who is localizing the game unless it's being recorded in-house.

I have heard some complaints about Radiant Dawn's localization in the past but that was nowhere close to Fates' complaints. I can undertand not wanting Treehouse to touch it again but a recent blunder doesn't guarantee another.

Ah, I see. Thanks for informing me. I'm all for second chances, I just hope they do a good job with the voice direction, it really takes you out of it if the voices don't fit.

  7. My main criticism is the quality of voice acting with Treehouse, it just doesn't work for me. It's why I didn't mind until Fates came along (unless I'm also counting Radiant Dawn which I haven't really played). The content removed or altered wasn't really that big of an issue to me.

  8. As the title suggests, I'm wondering what are the chances of 8-4 doing localization for the new Fire Emblem on the Switch. I loved their work with Awakening and from what I've seen of SoV, that as well.

I must say I wasn't too pleased with Treehouse's quality of English voice acting and overall localization of Fates (not whining about censorship by the way, couldn't really care much about that). I'd love to see 8-4 return once again now that full voice acting is the case with Shadows of Valentia. What are your thoughts?

  9. Hey there, welcome to the forest! Looks like you've played quite of a lot of FE. I've only played like 10 chapters of FE9, so can't really form too much of an opinion on the game, but it was still good fun. FE7 though I've beaten pretty much every mode several times, one of my more favoured games in the series.

Anyway hope you enjoy your time here.

The novelization isn't canon. The fact that it's published by Square Enix is a dead giveaway to that.

Should have worded that differently, not saying it's "canon" per say. Doesn't change the fact though that it was an officially licensed product, and they didn't need to go ahead and state those pairings. In my opinion, it just lends credence to who is more likely to end up together. Again, just my opinion. I think Lyn/Rath makes more sense in terms of Lyn's character, she always yearned the plains and her Sacae heritage, and her endings with Hector or Eliwood go strongly against her beliefs.

I don't know about you, but pausing for the game for it to freeze for menu stuff takes some time to load and you'll repeatedly keep seeing the black screen every few seconds.

In the 3DS ones, you simply touch to get information and that's being quite sharp and convenient.

I've never had to wait for info to load, it's not exactly an intensive situation. Also FE is no stranger to additional info as mentioned by Gustavos above. I personally hate touch controls when they are not the primary control option. Taking out the stylus to then tap for more information is more tedious for me, than pressing a button to trigger the extra info. It may be convenient to have dual screens at the ready, but to me clicking a button and immediately seeing the stats of a character the cursor selected pop up takes the same amount of effort as looking down.

  12. Eliwood - Ninian

    Hector - Florina

    Rath - Lyn

    Kent - Fiora

    Wil - Rebecca

    Erk - Priscilla

    Matthew - Serra

    Bartre - Karla

    Pent - Louise

    Jaffar - Nino

Yeah that's pretty much it. Pent and Louise, as well as Bartre and Karla are pretty straightforward.

First three pairings are confirmed in the official novelization of Fire Emblem 7 as pointed out by shadowofchaos725 here:

If we count secret endings, then Roy and Lilina too cause they are adorable.

  13. They gotta make it big, the Switch is fresh in the market and is selling well. To keep up this momentum, we need to see more games announced. I'm expecting updates on games we know about, mostly Super Mario: Odyssey, FE Warriors, Splatoon 2, Arms, and some others from Nintendo. Come on Nintendo, announce Pokemon Stars already. SE will likely talk about their own games coming too, as well as some other Japanese third parties. I'd really like to see some surprising third party announcements, but within reason of course (RDR2 is unlikely). As for surprise Nintendo announcements, I expect to see Retro's game, and that Rabbids crossover which has me questioning the concept. Someone asked them what they were cooking up, and they replied with a picture with prime ribs. Metroid Prime 4 confirmed. Maybe we'll see some old IPs aside from Metroid brought back too, who knows? I expect some 3DS games, smaller in comparison, but definitely there. There's been a lot of talk and heavily convincing rumours of Mario and Luigi: Superstar Saga DX for the 3DS. Maybe that will make an appearance. Personally, I would absolutely kill for a new Monster Hunter announced exclusively for the Switch. That and Pokemon would sell Switches insanely.

  14. I remember playing this level for the first time, and losing some unit because I wasn't careful of Uhai's range. This is why thieves are useful, their increased vision in FoW chapters helps tremendously. That, and the torch you are given either during this chapter, or before.
