  1. Gonna do a quick and dirty analysis Alm: Royal Sword has the insane Double Lion skill and you dont need marks to get it unlike other good weapons like the killer bow. His growths are insane and he has good bases too. With warp support he can cleanly orko a lot of units. Celica: Early seraphim is amazing and she has arguably better growths than Alm. Her personal wep isn't amazing as it eats up a gold mark, doesn't have an insane active like double lion, nor will she be in one range much due to her magic being a better option most of the time.
  2. It's my favorite FE, which means I can say that I love a lot of things about it and also that I can hate a bunch of things about it because I think about the most out of FEs in terms of thinking about game design THE GOOD Capturing and Stealing gives you access to way more resources, while giving you less free cash as sort of compensation, meaning players have to think about what's worth selling so that they can buy sick loot like Wind tomes and S drinks. Namely, having access to more staves is super cool and I don't know why later FE games love to severely limit how many staves you can get. Prf weapons, leadership stars, PCC and character specific skills give many characters a niche that makes them unique and makes players consider deploying them even if they aren't huge stat walls like Eyrios. Sucks that dudes like Tanya and Marty get left out, meme status aside. Alongside the previous point, enemies aren't just stat walls to overcome, with many enemies being flat out bad statistically. A lot of the difficulty comes from enemy placement and inventories... as well as some BS things like ballistae reinforcements. Escape maps add variety to map design, allowing the devs freedom to toss unwinnable situations at you. Also gives the plot some freedom since the army can now lose battles. I don't even mind that Leif leaving means everyone else is captured. Personal preference as I love staves, but staves being super powerful overall instead of helping in a few niche cases. Warp is kinda too broken, though. Movement and Constitution growths are a neat concept that should be explored more, as well as units have different movement bases like Dagdar. Dismounting and indoor chapters help to balance the ongoing mount vs infantry war that plagues a lot of FE, although it doesn't completely address the issue cause of some outliers like Eyrios being amazing indoors and outdoors. Music and graphics have aged like a fine wine, with this game sporting my favorite portraits in all of FE. Although their meme quality isn't up to par with its predecessor The plot isn't too bad either, and Leif is one of the most relatable and human lords if not the most. Correlating to the point above, the small scale battles relative to other FEs makes for a more realistic story. THE BAD The game is just flat out punishing to blind players, what with stuff like the harsh fog of war, reinforcements moving when they arrive, fatigue, and wacky recruitments. Fatigue is decent in theory, but poorly implemented especially since specific units might be needed to recruit others which screws over blind players and experienced players can generally just ignore fatigue as a whole due to S drinks. 1RN is kinda silly overall and lowers consistency of serious runs, but can lead to hilarious highlights. 99 hit and 1 hit being the ceiling and floor, respectively, also hampers consistency. You'd be surprised how much you see 1%s hitting and 99%s missing. Movement stars, while goofy, just add another layer of randomness that can ruin a player's day on the rare case when enemies have them. Dismounting forcing units to only use swords, with the rare General being able to use lances indoors, somewhat hampers weapon versatility indoors. Weapons that aren't swords and tomes kinda get screwed in the diversity department, with lances and axes only really getting to toy with effective weaponry, and bows don't even get that luxury. Heck, even with tomes, it's pretty much wind/light or bust, unless you're one of the Mage Knights with their neat thunder tomes Missable staves Throne bonuses are simply way too massive Warpskipping is cool and all, but allowing the player to ignore a lot of your map design isn't really great as a designer, and the designer shouldn't be making maps where straight up skipping it is preferable to playing it through I probably forgot some stuff but screw it I already have a lot here.
  3. Kinda sucks, Nintendo probably has their reasons, but they sure as hell won't be upfront and tell the community about it, which is the worst part about a lot of their mistakes, really.
  4. Best: 3 points: Radiant Dawn 2 points: Binding Blade 1 point: Fates: Conquest Worst: 3 points: Fates: Birthright 2 points: Awakening 1 point: Mystery of the Emblem
  5. Sure, why not. Best: 3 points: Thracia 776 2 points: Radiant Dawn 1 point: Genealogy of the Holy War Worst: 3 points: FE1 2 points: Gaiden 1 point: Fates - Revelation
  6. Batter the Irritable Pupper, reporting in Possible spoilers but I'll be running Castlevania 3 for everyone its actually done already but. Hope you enjoy me being bad at Grant's climbing mechanics.
  7. If anyone wants to see how this silliness got started
  8. 1. Guilty Gear Super fun and stylish anime fighter with tons of rock references, mechanics that add a lot of freedom to playstyles, amazing soundtracks, passable story, and some of the most unique characters in any fighter. What's not to love? 2. Monster Hunter A series that I've come to love in the past few years and frankly its most of what I spend my free time on nowadays. All the weapons are fun as hell to play Hunting Horn and Lance/Gunlance for life, and while grinding for parts is a big aspect, you have to attack certain parts of a monster to get certain parts and that along with an in depth item system and counterplay against a lot of monsters makes an experience that can easily drain hours from your life before you realize it. Also, passive skills being attached to armor skills is an amazing concept and makes upgrading to a new armor set a more interesting experience than just getting more defense for upgrading. I could honestly go on about this series for days. It does have its flaws though, a lot of monster AI is stupid and will do things like charge at a far away place to attack you since it's basically a moving hitbox while charging. 3. Super Smash Bros Freeform fighter that's fun casually and competitively. Game balance kinda sucks in all games as bottom tiers stand no chance against top tiers, but the mobility of most characters alongside an interesting anti-combo mechanic in DI makes for a frantic game that really keeps you on your toes and forces you to constantly think about every option, even while getting comboed. 4. Castlevania Both Classicvania and Metroidvania games are incredible. Classicvania has an interesting mechanic in that your main weapon comes out slow as hell but has really good reach, meaning that while you can hit enemies coming to you if you press the button early enough, you can't just mash and win. You have to really think about how to approach each room, and predict enemy patterns for a well placed whip strike. It's surprisingly fun, although platforming sections can get frustrating due to instant death being the common punishment for even small failures. Modern Metroidvanias are incredible, and have a wide variety of different attack types to use throughout the game through the different weapon types. Also, backdash and land cancelling are super cool mechanics that make the already freeform combat even faster and allows the player to overcome the evident endlag on a lot of weapons. I do like SotN, but I like it as a speedrun game due to the vast amount of movement options at the player's disposal. The difficulty curve is all over the place and kinda prevents me from saying its my favorite as a whole package. Lords of Shadow is pretty decent as well, but not nearly as good as most of the other Castlevania games. 5. Mega Man A character that controls easily along with complicated individual stage mechanics is a staple of any good platforming game, and Mega Man is no exception. While some stage gimmicks are outright dumber than others and can get really frustrating, a lot are clearly well thought out and make the player learn on the fly so that subsequent playthroughs are way easier through the stage. The ability to take boss powers and the RPS system for beating bosses with other boss weapons is an interesting concept, and the fact that the player can choose any of the available stages to start from makes a lot of people's first experiences with each game unique, and casually, a lot of players have wildly different ways that they approach the game once they're experienced enough. Some weapons are lame and some are overpowered, but they make the game a lot more interesting than if the standard buster was the only option. The sequel series are neat, but as an overall series and taking each game into account, the original series has the highest quantity of good games, although I like Mega Man X more than any of the classic games Honorable Mentions: Fire Emblem, Kirby, Pokemon, Final Fantasy, Zelda, Tekken, and some others I definitely forgot about
  9. I'm unironically hoping for Benjamin from Mystic Quest as the "unexpected character". Not that I like the game at all, but his tool kit would be a neat basis for a moveset, especially with his grappling hook claw. I'm guessing the "unexpected character" is going to be an unpopular newcomer of some kind, though I'm doubting it being from a spinoff since we recently got one from Type 0.
  10. Kuja seems like a more aggressive and in your face mage than the ff6 duo, which is something I can always appreciate. He's not Gabranth or Gilgamesh, though, so I still have to hold out for a bit. I hope one character takes Vaan's old gimmick. That was my favorite part about his 012 self.
  11. Wyverns are super cool and I like their armor and designs better than those sissy pegs but those sissy pegs can carry around units like Seth earlier than the super cool wyverns so they're better. Except in games where busted wyverns like Miledy/Haar/Camilla exist.
  12. Looks amazing. I wonder how King Knight mode will top this. It's staggering to see the difference in quality between this trailer and the vanilla game/trailer. Props to Yacht Club Games for making such an amazing game, here's to hoping we see some more games from them
