  1. EOU question:

What happens to your guild members if you go Story->Classic->Story->Classic ?

I started the game on Story-mode and the characters can be transferred to Classic, but I don't know what happens going from Classic to Story.

  2. By "conditions" I meant like how much damage or how many attacks you do might change the number of rounds. Maybe even how many times you get knocked off the wall? I dunno. I was just wondering out loud, sorry. xD

    Four bottles.

The gale boomerang is supposed to reach the bridge. I think it doesn't reach if you just chuck it, meaning you have to lock on. If it won't reach after locking/won't even lock I have no clue what's going on...

  3. I can confirm that Stallord phase 2 still has three rounds! I finished Arbiter's Grounds yesterday. It's just that the Stallord battle was actually made MORE difficult in the second phase by adding more spikes to the spinner tracks in the end. I could SWEAR that the tracks on the outer wall never had spikes in any part of the second phase in the original game, but in the HD version, they get spikes in the third round.

@bolded: O-outer wall...spikes...? I have enough difficulty with the third round trying to get inbetween the inner wall spikes, outer wall spikes would've made it unbelievably difficult for me... Maybe I've stricken them from my memory.

How in hell did I get only two rounds? ._. I think that's happened a few times in GCN, but most often it's three rounds. What sort of conditions are in place...?

    ~~

Compilation post, of sorts. Because why not.

Just my stuff that hasn't been touch upon and that I checked against the GCN version.

Green means go correct, red means incorrect, blue means inconclusive/see notes.

-Climbing ladders and vines is very fast now.

-Pick-up range for rupees is bigger.

-I found a chest when following the monkey that I never knew was there... If it isn't new, shame on me.

-->It is not new, and I had even opened it already in one of my GCN files.

-"You got 10 rupees" instead of "You got a yellow rupee". Having the numbers feels goofy

-->GCN has "You got a yellow Rupee (10)!" Bad memory, yay.

-Chests are a brighter blue? They stick out more which is rather handy.

-->They are definitely brighter, but it might simply be the graphical update.

-Link doesn't roll into another roll. Somehow. There's a noticeable delay between rolls.

-->I was having control issues: it got better as I progressed and it's also like this in GCN.

-The portals on the map are bright blue now.

-->Lighter blue, as opposed to darker blue.

-When pulling out the wall with the chain in Goron Mines (there are some of these walls in Arbiter's Grounds as well) the camera actually stays put when you move it.

-The key by the beamos in the first (open) area that has bulblin archers is now in a blue chest instead of a small wooden chest.

-The boulder blocking the cave near Eldin Spring now leaves climbable rubble.

-In the GCN version, each time you load the file and step on a non-green rupee you get the "You got a __ rupee" message. In the HD version that only happens the first time in the save file, not every single time you load the file.

-The button controls for the spinner...are backwards to the GCN version.

-Snowboarding controls seem a little different? Harder to keep stable.

-->I find it very steady in GCN, and hard to keep a straight line in HD. Might be because of the way the camera works in HD--it's difficult to keep a straight line when RUNNING.

-The gold cucco glides much faster now.

    -->Same speed.

    Questions:

-What are the stopwatches on the map?

-->Denotes mini-games, the fortune teller, and Agitha's Castle. Don't know why a stopwatch.

-I just found...a beehive with bees SWARMING over it... Ewwwwww. Were they always like this? D:

    -->Yup...

    -WolfLink can destroy torches?!

    -->Certain type of torch.

-The treasure hole by the one poe on Snowpeak, in which is a wall of ice and three big ice monsters... Was the chest always inside the middle ice monster?

    -->Yup.

From this I have learned to not rely on my memory for speed comparisons.

    Extra:

The glitchy-twitchy grass is also in GCN.

"Dark Link" is also in GCN.

  4. Comparing swimming in both versions right now. Here's what I'm noticing...

You know how on land Link can turn 180 degrees very fast? He can do that in the water in the HD version but not in the GCN version.

Surface paddling (non-dash) is slower in HD. This was the very first thing I noticed!

Underwater swimming has a couple things. 1) Going under the surface. In GCN you dive down a bit before you gain control over movement. In HD you have immediate control, without the diving part. 2) Coming up to the surface. In GCN you surface immediately. In HD you have to come to a dead stop in order to surface; this allows for swimming just under the surface without accidentally surfacing.

Personally I'd like a mix of both. That diving startup is bad, HD wins there. But as for surfacing, I'd rather surface immediately instead of having to come to a complete stop. Not to mention, with the quick about-face you end up facing away from the ledge you want to climb and start paddling away from it. >_> Oh well...

With practice, I'm sure the HD surfacing would become pretty natural.

Again, this is just what I'm noticing.

    ~~

If you want to experience the glitchy-twitchy grass, go into the treasure hole in Ordon Ranch. Beat up the rats and withhold the desire to break pots.

  5. One more: When looking in the mirror in Link's basement, first-person PoV shows an "angry" expression in the HD version whereas it's a neutral expression in the GCN version.

Watching some gameplay videos, I noticed no difference for either of these.

Just checked vids for the cannon repair... I remember the HD version being faster yesterday. >:| I must have been half-asleep when I saw it ingame.

    /facepalm

-Link's hair doesn't get darker when wet. His clothes still do.

    Clarification and correction:

His hair changes color with his starting outfit, but not with the Hero's Clothes nor Magic Armor. In both HD and GCN.

That was bad... /hangs head in shame

  6. Certain treasure holes have a glitchy tuft of grass. Happened twice so far. Freaked me out.

You stand still and yet you're hearing grass noises. YOU'RE NOT ALONE.

Searching for the source of the noise you come across a tuft of grass, twitching, between a pot and the wall.

You move the pot ever so slightly...and the grass stops twitching/making noise.

...? It was possessed... By a pot...

  7. Continuing after that utter defeat last night...

-Found another chest I've never seen before: in Kakariko Village above the entrance to Death Mountain. ...It contains an orange rupee.

-The pictures in Snowpeak Ruins look niiice.

-The second small wooden chest buried in snow now has the digging spot sparkle when in sense-mode. Didn't check the first one.

-In the second phase, Blizzeta requires two hits instead of one to be knocked away.

-The treasure hole by the one poe on Snowpeak, in which is a wall of ice and three big ice monsters... Was the chest always inside the middle ice monster?

-Snowboarding controls seem a little different? Harder to keep stable.

-Speaking of snowboarding: at the end of the "racetrack" there is an archway. I don't remember it at all.

-The gold cucco glides much faster now.

Yeah, It's pretty great. I wish it was in a more easy to reach spot (like on the control pad), but eh, whatever.

That'd be super handy when playing off-tv.

  8. ...What? Sorry, but no, it isn't. You're aiming for a tiny platform that rotates way below where you first jump off with the cucco. It's impossible for such a thing to be easy.

Guess I do the impossible then.

-Swimming controls. The camera responds differently, doesn't follow you. A bit of a pain in the ass. The startup is faster, very nice.

    Correcting:

The camera in general doesn't follow you if you've manually moved it. It DOES follow you when swimming, until you move it yourself.

    Onward!

-Magic armor still drains your rupees.

-In the GCN version, each time you load the file and step on a non-green rupee you get the "You got a __ rupee" message. In the HD version that only happens the first time in the save file, not every single time you load the file. Saves time.

    -Glitchy~!

-The button controls for the spinner...are backwards to the GCN version. Mayhem.

    -SCARY BOSS IS STILL SCARY. ;A;

-Only two rounds against Stallord Phase 2? First round had no spinners, second round had two spinners. They took out the round with just one spinner? Or am I remembering this fight all wrong?

  9. Random stuff.

-Found a chest in Lake Hylia's shallow waters that I never knew was there. It has a stamp.

-I didn't realize the chest on the revolving platform on the Isle of Riches reset itself. Cheat.

    -WolfLink can destroy torches?!

-I like this minimap poe count so far.

-It's kind of silly you can't use the left stick to move around while in first-person PoV.

-The buttons for the collection screen and item screen are backwards to the GCN version so I keep opening the wrong menu...

    Anyone else get it all?

Not to rain on your parade but it's pretty easy to do.

While we're on this topic: how many people use the windguage thingamabob to stop the rotating platform? I don't; I find it easier when it's rotating. :v

  10. Wow, chill. :/ It's dumb to get angry over boulder colors.

I did notice the objective flags, interesting. Also got a stamp. Was wondering when I'd find one. I think I missed something in the Forest Temple now. xP

    I regret ranting. Apologies.

Honestly, now that I've calmed down I think the boulders might stick out so much just because of the color/lighting/texture changes.

And yes there is a stamp in Forest Temple. :P

edit: I just found...a beehive with bees SWARMING over it... Ewwwwww. Were they always like this? D:

    Next up...

-Swimming controls. The camera responds differently, doesn't follow you. A bit of a pain in the ass. The startup is faster, very nice.

-I wish this huge aquatic ring-area in Lakebed Temple served some sort of purpose...

-The poe in Jovani's house got knocked through the wall... It floated back, but... Whoa.

-Going through the old waterway, there was a useless torch after the second web. It's gone now. Am I'm imagining things?

-Is it just me or does the first round of the STAR game have less orbs and less time?

-Link's sword still hits and bounces off some things. In Lakebed Temple, the platforms hanging by chains...you can "hit" the chains--it makes a sound and sparks fly but it doesn't interupt your swing. The rock circles in various places...they still interupt your swing. Very jarring that some things can be swung through but not others.

    That's it for today.

  11. What are the stopwatches on the map?

I don't understand why some of the gray boulders were turned brown while others were left alone. It's stupid. The brown landscape is for the Death Mountain area so why are there random brown boulders elsewhere, conspicuous amongst the gray landscape? The gray boulders stick out perfectly well without being completely stupid. West of Hyrule Castle, the path with the spinner tracks is blocked on the south end by now-brown boulders and on the north end by gray boulders. THIS makes no fucking sense. *sigh* Make secret/special areas easier to spot? Learn to read a map. Besides, if you miss it, that's per normal; these special things are for when you are actually paying close attention to your surroundings, not for when you're flying by and "LOOK HERE FUNNY COLORS". Fuck.

    /rant

    The adventure contintues...

-The boulder blocking the cave near Eldin Spring now leaves climbable rubble.

-I have to say it again: the twilight is NOT the same without the surreal haze. Looks too ordinary now. Lake Hylia, what the hell. /complain

-I keep hitting the wrong button to dig. >_<

-Did anyone mention the objective flags?

-Tears of light. The one to the rear of Fyer's cannon is gone. The one...south of the Lake Hylia warp portal, dunno how else to explain it, is gone. Still at Lake Hylia, there is a new spot: right beside the ladder. At Zora's Domain, the one in the corridor way up on the west side is gone. Weren't there two--not one--in the middle of the water in Zora's domain? Three out of four, where's the other missing one?

-Trip to Kakariko. Once again, craptastic Epona controls result in copious amounts of yelling and profanity.

-The silver rupee falls faster out of the bell atop Kakariko's sanctuary.

-Weren't the gorons involved with the magic armor quest out here before going to the water temple? I swear I dumped my rupees before going...

-Caught the bottle at the fishing hole on the first try!

    -GODDAMNIT Rollgoal uses motion controls!

I'm gonna be here at Rollgoal a while...

edit: Wait, turn off motion controls in the options! YAAAAY! :D

  12. Not a comprehensive list, bah.

I...didn't even notice the lack of heatwave. Now that I know, I can say it was definitely missing, but, that's retroactively. FOR SHAME.

I did notice the glow from the lava is still there. :D

Yup. This is how it originally was in Twilight Princess anyway on the Wii, but with the HD resolution it's even easier to get a precise shot. It's just better than 1st person even if Link is hanging out in the corner, due to that targeting reticle showing you exactly where your arrow is going to hit.

Ah, the Wii version. Well that's rather neat that we have both now.

I really like how the bow aims in the GCN version. Feels natural to me. :3 Glad to have a choice.

Edit: For Epona control woes, apparently diagonals just don't do anything. When dashing, you're best off hitting a hard left or right to make her go in the direction you want.

This advice is unbelievably helpful, thank you.

The difference is I actually played through the GCN version again a few months ago

    Whoa, me too. Go us.

    You aren't alone in the "feeling like an idiot" department. I got stuck on the tree going out of Ordon the very first time. >_>;

  13. I can't get over the ladders. So fast. Makes me giggle.

    Onward to Eldin.

-The portals on the map are bright blue now. Makes them harder to see...

-Second batch of tears. The one inside the soon-to-be Malo Mart is gone, which makes that little entrance completely pointless--it gets boarded over once the twilight is gone. Pretty sure there was one in the upper floor of the hotel. The one in the graveyard is gone. The one in the pot in the building waaay above the bomb shop is gone, making that digging spot pointless.

-Wrangling Epona is different. I never understood the point of it; follow the prompts and bada-bing-boom-bang done, too easy. But in this version if you just follow the prompts you'll keep getting thrown off. The prompts are pretty pointless here...just keep Link centered on Epona.

-Chasing down King Bulblin, then the battle on the bridge: tedious with these crappy controls. And those prompts on the bridge are nothing more than distractions.

-On the path to Death Moutain I made a goron roll uphill. I've managed to sneak past that particular goron a few times, but he never turned around like this.

-Gor Coron looks so very old.

-When pulling out the wall with the chain in Goron Mines (there are some of these walls in Arbiter's Grounds as well) the camera actually stays put when you move it. Very nice.

-You still can't freely move the camera when magnetized to the walls. :(

-The key by the beamos in the first (open) area that has bulblin archers is now in a blue chest instead of a small wooden chest. Guess it's supposed to make it easier to see?

-THIRD PERSON AIMING IS CHEATING, HOLY CRAP.

-Pretty confident Hyrule Field's theme was changed/remade/whatever.

Also, is it just me or are there fewer Tears of Light now? That just blows, the game was already kind of easy as it is...

There are fewer tears of light. I'm annoyed by it.

  14. Epona can be steered with the camera! Just keep the left stick pointed up and use the right stick to "move the ground".

Looks really funny sometimes Epona doesn't look like she's turning.

And obviously this doesn't work in areas you can't move the camera.

I miss first person PoV, it's very helpful for investigating a room for secrets.

I miss that too. But oh well...

I'm about to enter the Forest Temple and I've noticed some of the differences you guys have pointed out.

One no one's mentioned though: Uli walks to her house a bit faster. SO glad of that. I know she's preggers, but seriously, she moved like a snail before.

First person PoV: click the right stick.

    Uli: I'm usually a jerk running straight to the house. ^^;

  15. I'll be logging observations (and some personal notes).

    Prepare yourselves.

And tell me if I should spoiler my walls of text.

    On with the adventure:

-King Bulbin's face, wow. Quite the change. He looks very old now.

-The twilight just isn't the same without the glow. :(

-First time as wolfLink: the area with the spiral stairs now has a solid floor in the middle--with a layer of water--instead of being a pool of water.

-Tears of light. Aside from there being less of them, they behave differently: it's possible to acquire them as soon as they spawn and as they are floating to the ground (I think they still spawn in midair); and, they float towards you if you're within a certain distance. Very helpful and smooth. I only know one of the...four?...that are missing: the one outside the lantern guy's house. For shame, I don't know the game as well I thought. :(

-I found a chest when following the monkey that I never knew was there... If it isn't new, shame on me.

-The motion controls for aiming are stable. Much better than in WWHD.

-Opening the first chest in Forest Temple greeted me with "You got 10 rupees" instead of "You got a yellow rupee". Having the numbers feels goofy; it made me laugh in a bad way.

-Found my first stamp. This will be interesting to see where they all are. Something new to collect! :D

-Chests are a brighter blue? They stick out more which is rather handy. Might just be the tv...

-May or may not be new: The rope before the mini-boss, where the 4 monkeys help you across... The rope, even with the monkeys on it, sways with the breeze.

I blame the tv. The colors look great on the gamepad but awful on the tv. But I like the tv's colors for other games so I don't want to change it... But playing on the gamepad gets rather laggy... Ugh, stupid tvs. /complain

I mentioned this before, that's a really big problem, since it's supposed to be improved, but it looks like the exact opposite happened.

I don't have free-range on Epona yet, but the little bit so far is bad.

Getting stuck on walls instead of sliding along them. Takes too long to start turning. Stops dead mid-turn.

Really screws up your momentum and is just super clunky. :\

Speaking of controls, the camera takes too long to respond.

Also, Link doesn't roll into another roll. Somehow. There's a noticeable delay between rolls.

How do you "improve" already perfect controls? I knew it wasn't going to end well. The only thing that could be improved is underwater swimming, which they apparently did touch up. I'll find out how that went soon enough...

    My bias is showing.

  16. Hawk and slingshot, which means the bow also. Looks like my epic bow skills won't come into play. :|

    It didn't do that before?

Never did for me. Always had to catch a second one.

edit: Regarding the sword not hitting the wall:

I just reached the first cave and I can swing freely without hitting the damn walls. Still doesn't make it make any sense but it's so CONVENIENT oh my goodness.

  17. Been playing for half an hour so far.

Swimming is super slow now, though the dash is probably the same speed.

Why is there a gate closing the area where the monkey is? Like...why would the people of the village put a METAL gate up?

The cat scene is sped up so fast I don't know what happened. And it grabs the very first fish now! :D

Epona doesn't seem to control very well...

I can't aim for shit with a hawk. My brain can't use those controls.

Climbing ladders and vines is very fast now.

Pick-up range for rupees is bigger. It's very noticeable getting the blue and yellow rupees on the tree branches above the beehive.

The collection screen is so different. Not sure if good or bad. It was fine the way it was.

The amiibo is quite heavy, was not expecting that. :o And it doesn't give Midna's weapon in Hyrule Warriors... ;-; I was hoping...

edit: Actually, it's more proper to say there IS a pick-up range on rupees. You had to step on them before.

edit 2: Well shit, the hawk uses the camera controls. :| I'll be zooming improperly but I can sort of manage the hawk now.
