    [spoiler=COMPETITION RULES - PLEASE READ]

    • The contest theme is optional. The theme is provided as an additional option and is not mandatory.
    • No large "full custom" (made from scratch) areas, parts, or pieces. The final result should be made of and identifiable to areas from the source mugs. If you feel like your entry may be considered "questionable" to others, you are allowed to post work-in-progress screenshots or other visual proof of your process.
    • Only use the given set of mugs; other mugs are not allowed. You may, however, elect to use fewer than the amount of given mugs. (Ex: 4 mugs are given, but you only use 3.)
    • Recommended color limit: 16 (15 on your mug +1 for background). This is rule is flexible, but being cautious with your color count as a general rule of thumb for good pixel art. You are allowed to deviate from the standard FE color choices if you wish to do so, as well.
    • Don't vote for yourself, or I will cry sad tears devoid of mod power. Seriously, if you think none of the other entries are worth a vote, please select the "abstain vote" option.
    • Hosts may enter contests. As a public poll is used as the voting platform, hosts receive no benefits or unfair advantages from running the contest.
    • Only 1 entry per member. However, you may edit your entry while the contest is still active. Please edit your first post, or quote the most recent entry you wish you submit for clarification, or the wrong entry may be submitted for voting.

    VOTING:
    A public poll (users can view voted results) will be put up once the entry period has ended.
    Voting consists of 2 categories: 'Best in Theme' (single choice) and 'Favorites' (multiple choice).

    'Winner' is the popular vote for 'Best in Theme' and the runners-up are taken from the most popular two from both voting categories. If there is overlap (e.g. 2nd place is the same participant for both categories), a weighted average of the total votes will determine the remaining runner-ups.

    The winner of the contest will choose the next theme and a mug, and runners-up will choose the remaining mugs once the theme has been decided. If you have been selected to choose a mug for the next set, please try to limit choices to actual portraits and not shopkeepers, blank/placeholders, or dragon Idoun.

    PARTICIPATION NOTES:
    In the past, there has been a lot of conflict surrounding what does and doesn't constitute proper splicing techniques. This is not the venue to repeat that argument (if you're interested in it, please look at old rounds between 50 and 65). Please remember to allow participants the freedom to experiment and find their comfort zone in splicing. Give them votes when you believe they're successful, but do not use their entry as a platform to tell the world what you don't like.
    If you have any questions or concerns, please PM the current host.

  2. Oh no this guy!

    Well, using Kent as a reference, he's slightly smaller than the usual head-size. I'd recommend finding vanilla portraits that're close to the things you're trying to fill in and copy those. (The face seems pretty difficult to match since no one quite does that, probably hybrid Seth and Kent and Valter?)

    It looks like for the clothes, armor, and skin you can straight copy your reference for lighting and it'll translate fine.

    From a straight up overlay of the original art his eyes have shifted closer to his nose. I'll rummage up an edit in a bit.

    [Edit: ouU6x.png ish? I just placed the eyes for an example, didn't really try shaping them. ]

  3. Ah I can not hide, fine ^^;

    oiRn6.png

    I just feel like I can't put the 100% satisfaction guarantee on it, like I think I'd play with the colors or her hair or all sorts of different poses with her after having gotten her down the first time (rather than giving the first pass), for that sort of pride where I'd straight up post on a zero-confidence day. It's nothing particular I guess just myself being myself on a non-trace work.

    I'm still up for requests for either originals or reference/traces, by the way~ Fates portraits was a pretty straightforward conversion aside from the clip-offs.

  4. It's your OC and was your request so I just decided to leave what you did with it up to you. ^^;

    I wasn't super confident about it so withdrew from any possible crit opportunities.

  5. Thanks guys ^^;

    @Ubel:

    I did consider just cropping it

    or something like this

    ooSvt.png

    But figured it was better to get something out for Char to use. And slightly hoping that someone would fill in the staff b/c I gave up on aliasing it. I'll probably get to it eventually just so I can match it up with Haar, just not this week. ;w;

  6. I'm not sure about you (I can't do it by the way), but I'd like to see a whole sheet, not just a single sprite.

    *cries*

    A single frame seems plausible and I'll grab it eventually if no one else does. Idle/active cyles seem like good enough self-reward as far as usage/avvies go, but a whole sheet on a whim is asking for a lot? (They average 24x24 afaik, 20 frames total for active/idle/LR/Up/Down, and probably don't break 32 colors if you manage them, maybe not as bad as first impression makes it, but still.)

  7. You could brute force screenshot->painstakingly clean around and in the sprite you want.

    The hacking section or a 3DS ripping community is probably a better place to ask for actual ripping specifics (I doubt it's something someone with a basic setup could do?). Spriting section can help make new content or let you know if the resource is already out there (which I don't think it is quite yet).

    @map sprites in particular, I think in everything but color count, FEA/FEF map sprites follow principles of good pixel art. They have nice animation and clean/readable forms and are refreshing after 3DS' map sprites. I don't doubt that some things were 'painted' as opposed to plotting individual pixels, but that discussion isn't related to the request.

    You can read a single impression from 3/4's of the body, and then you have the hand area confusing things a bit. I think if you improve the hand anatomy and/or connect it to a familiar gesture, it'd strengthen the pose.

    (Also very nice work on the face and hair and non-standard ear. Looks great~)

  10. Thanks all for the crit~ It's helpful, but I figure I should say I can't bother with putting out revisions atm. I'll look back and try to repair stuff you all have pointed out just to learn from it, but it wouldn't be a complete patch worth showing. Sorry in advance for not returning that end of the feedback.

    Things'll probably be raw/shoddy for a while. Very much noted maybe I should just do WIPs and not slipshod areas.

  11. Looks great!

    (I agree, it's pretty good and at this point it's "things I would've done differently because personal tastes". You're at 15 colors, I'd add a dark red value so you can outline the clothing and flower a bit better into everything else. Eyebrow seems a little asymmetrical atm. The gold-colored shoulderpiece is a little hard to identify (what is it?). I'd change the green bars right under the flower so they curved a bit more with the head, and you could alias the hair to the face with the darker skintones as well, as opposed to just the darkest green. But really, you're doing well, keep at it!^^)
