  1. Are you thinking of elevation differences and character orientations being introduced as well? Because I don't understand how introducing isometric battlefields would affect anything beyond aesthetics. The grid wouldn't be transformed, just rotated 45 degrees. And Nintendo handhelds now feature analog directional input, so I imagine it wouldn't be a difficult transition for players.

I think it could be a fun change (if only for the novelty).

  2. Danganronpa is one visual novel with game elements that managed to draw me in from the beginning. It is full of anime stereotypes mixed with what you'd expect from the mystery and suspense genre, added with Ace Attorney-esque investigations and trials. Still, it is fun for those who are ok with anime pandering.

How blatant is the pandering? Do the characters have any depth? I have the first two games but haven't given them a try yet. I was excited to jump into them soon. Now I'm not so sure.

okay ill give both games a look. but it looks like it will be alot of work to get yu-no to run properly... this is going to be fun....

It looks like you've been convinced to look into Ever-17. But I'll add that Ever-17 is quite similar to 999. Given you like Zero Escape, chances are good you'll like Ever-17.

A remake of YU-NO is actually being released this year. But unfortunately I don't think there are yet any (public) plan to bring it to the PC.

  3. I cycle to work. Takes about 20 minutes. Though I walk if it's raining heavily or dangerously windy. Then it takes about 35 minutes.

The rush hour traffic where I live isn't too terrible, but people are impatient enough I feel safer riding a bike through small streets and alleys than trying to driving on the main roads.

I think cycling to work/school is a good habit if one's work situation makes it feasible. In my case, I hate driving anyways. And now I don't feel guilty if for some reason I can't go running on the odd day. There's also a great shortcut cycling home that goes by a grocery store.

Helps it's also masses cheaper than maintaining a car or using public transportation.

  4. Asking how a tax system is "mathematically better" is a meaningless question because what's "better" depends completely on your ideology.

I believe society is advantaged when government provides support beyond market facilitation and property rights protection. I'd argue that because prices are not proportional, the real cost of a flat tax is greater for those with less income (assuming equivalent total tax revenue) and government ought not be the cause of such a burden. I can only see suggestions that a flat tax is fair as misleading. But this is a biased (though I think valid) generalization.

You say you see this as more of a political issue. I agree with that. There are of course plenty of economic arguments to be made, but I think it's too reductive to consider those arguments under the umbrella of "mathematically better (or worse)".

  5. Wist you should post cavaliers circling a terran command center so I can watch it again.

    If you come back.

This brings back memories. I probably still have the source files. Hmm...

Matthewtheman, perhaps StarCraft is the Fire Emblem game you should play.

  6. Here's May. She's nearly 3 years old.

Here's Brambles having just climbed into a shopping bag:

    AywrzPr.jpg

Unfortunately, Brambles died last week at scarcely 9 months old. I wish we'd taken more pictures of him. I miss Brambles. 8[

  7. Looks like I'll have to reread Harr's dialogue. And Cormag/Natashas'. And Kieran's! I remember Cherche's well enough, at least now that I'm reminded.

I think you're right, NoDakSmack and Anacybele, that it's always the wyverns and pegasi rather than horses. Florina always stuck out in my memory, though I'd always forgotten her pegasus's name. Guess it having two doesn't help, haha.

And I'd completely forgotten about Micaiah! I don't even remember if Micaiah knew what Yune really was though.

  8. I apologize if this has been discussed before. Searching pulled up discussions only on waifu petting.

I realized today I can't think of any Fire Emblem characters with pets. Many have mounts, some of whom are named and mentioned in dialogue. As animals characters care for and about individually, one could argue the case for some of the mounts. But how about pets beyond mounts? Or even just mounts clearly treated as dearly as pets? Would anyone like pets in an FE game, either as units or for background characterization?

  9. They are sample pages for an erotic fan fiction which will be sold in a 36 page book at the SUPER COMIC CITY25 convention on May 4. It's the second of two stories in this book. Whether it's a "novel" depends on how you define the word.

  10. Don't know if anyone has any better solutions (poked around the forum and didn't see anything) but I made a Google Spreadsheet to keep track of my Cipher cards. I thought others might find it useful, so I made a prettier public version.

    Here's mine: http://bit.ly/23JJWDm

And here's a blank copy you can save to Google Drive and edit: http://bit.ly/1PTdkwE

It supports English and Japanese (sorry I didn't add French). I didn't include fan translations, but could if anyone wants. You jump between series at the bottom (or using the red buttons, but they only work for the author). Highlight rows with exclamation points to mark cards you're looking for or willing to trade. Data can be imported by future revisions, so you won't have to manually put all your numbers back in every time a new series comes out.

If you're not familiar with Google Docs, just pull up the blank version and go to "File > Make a Copy". To get a link, go to the "Share" button in the top right.

Let me know if you use this, if you find any mistakes, or if you have a better way of logging and sharing your collection!

  11. Some European train operators sell a set number of tickets at heavily discounted prices if you book early enough. For example, I paid less than 10% standard fare taking the train from Oslo to Bergen by buying ahead like this. Some bus operators do the same, which is great for traveling between countries inexpensively, and buses should be much cheaper than trains anyways. Then you have budget airlines like Ryanair which can be extraordinarily affordable if you're not carrying much and can schedule flexibly. And don't forget hitchhiking coupled with walking.

I would imagine most people trying a whirlwind tour would keep their costs down by these means, plus sleeping at camping sites, in fields, maybe in a car, or at strangers' (or friends') houses. Keep in mind the eastern countries are generally much less expensive than the north and the west too.

  12. The over the top animations work because they're quick, too. The slowness of the Path of Radiance animations makes the absence of hit reactions look more ridiculous than in the other games. (

    )

I agree with Starman that Shadow Dragon had good animation. They're pretty fluid! But I think weapons completely overlapping target sprites made them uglier than they should have been. Compare Jagen's sword (overlapping) to

    (piercing).
  13. 2 Elibe things here, to do with Jaffar, and Karel

Jaffar's whole shtick with Nino, leading to his eventual redemption along with Matthew actually coming to grips with forgiving him as well, Jaffars supports with Matthew are super good.

Karel starting as a bloodthristy killer, but becoming a wise old swordsman, who actually deserves the title of Sword Saint, come FE6.

Elincia's Final Stand in Part 2 of Radiant Dawn, as it serves as the perfect ending to the arc that Path of Radiance started in getting Crimea back to its original state, and completes her growth as a character.

I'm definitely with you on your first line. FE7 had multiple great heart wrenching moments (both positive and traumatic), but I remember always thinking that... [can't think of the word, but the unfolding of those events] was particularly well handled.

[spoiler=Jaffar]If I had to pinpoint a particular moment, I'd say (probably predictably) when Jaffar leads Nino back out of Zephiel's room and is confronted by Ursula.

[spoiler=Radiant Dawn mid-game]I also liked wondering what the hell I should do with the Dawn Brigade against Greil's Mercenaries in FE10. It was a novel and uncomfortable position to be put in, which was fun in and of itself.

I suppose these aren't particular positive. So I'll also volunteer Matthew's B-support with Guy!

  14. "Been a long time coming...." Yeah, been a bloody long time coming. Reminds me of StarCraft II's "Hell, it's about time" reveal. This game's been a mythic quantity for so long. But even though this trailer's a bit campy, at least it shows more than what most of the rehashed PS3 trailers did. Looks like it's rendered in real time -- the car in the beginning does at least. I think the faces are pretty damned incredible if it's not a target render. Is the girl Stella? Combat looks a bit slow/heavy, but that's not necessarily bad. Still have no idea what the hell it's about, though.

I think I'm a bit hyped for this game even though I should know better by now. I'll avoid the demo, but I'm going to keep a really close eye on this game if it ever advances beyond "in development". Apparently Nomura's is no longer directing it. Wonder how much that'll affect the end product -- other than letting it be released (hypothetically).

  15. In order of priority:

    Norway

    Sweden

    England and/or Germany

Norway cuz i need it, and a really close friend lives over there.

Glorious Sverige because i need it and i got a bunch of friends over there. I love me some Sweden.

England because i definitely need it. Also to scope out if its worth leaving the US for, for good.

    Germany cuz yes please.

    These are the best reasons.

  16. Sorry, that wasn't what I was asking - unless I've missed something, because I do take advantage of the government paying my tuition fees already - I was more asking about some people have said that the English and Welsh taxpayers money goes towards Scottish people's university fees.

    This, or such.

Sorry, I misunderstood your question. I have no idea how tax money is distributed with respect to Scottish university tuition -- I'm also curious if what you noted some others are claiming is true or not.
