It's pathing issues. Cormag is supposed to fly over to the southeast and such, but as a land unit he can't path there, so the game freaks out. Or he did something with the text in that scene!

Oh, mind games was why. Crits off of magical damage would annihilate everything on your team, and I had Soren specced so that he could survive a round of combat with any of your guys.
I was actually considering starting Astrid with a bow and Laguzguard just for Geoffrey, but of course I had no guarantee you wouldn't attack with Largo or Naesala and get free hits, so I didn't.
