With how leveling is in this game, that sounds ridiculous (130 to 255). From what I heard, in Hyrule Warriors, 255 was chosen because that is a significant number to Zelda back in the day (max amount of rupees in the original game). They'll likely leave the max level at an even 150 in Fire Emblem Warriors.

Also, the devs have constantly stated that characters like Ike and Roy would not be added in as DLC, but in a possible sequel. There's no reason to assume that this wouldn't be the same for other, similar characters. So, if there was a Wave 2 for DLC, they would likely pick more Awakening, Fates, and Shadow Dragon characters, and I highly doubt that would push sales of the base game.

I don't think they ever outright said that was the reason for the max level being 255, that's just the assumption due to how 8bit systems had a max number value of 256 (including 0 as a number means 255).

It's actually easier and faster to level up in Fire Emblem Warriors then it was in Hyrule Warriors.

I never said we'd get characters like Ike & Roy, perhaps just more from Shadow Dragon, Awakening, Fates, and maybe even Blazing Blade or SoV.

Actually, I remember the Phantom Hourglass/Spirit Tracks DLC for HW Legends getting highlighted in the September 2016 Nintendo Direct. It was mentioned, then was released shortly after the Direct. I think that's why people were hoping for the Awakening DLC to be released shortly after the recent Direct.

Okay then, 1 DLC pack out of 6 was highlighted in a Nintendo Direct and it was the second to last one.

That still doesn't scream favoritism to me, maybe one of the Season 2 DLC packs will be featured in a Direct.

By the by, I'm betting on a Season 2 due to the level cap of Fire Emblem Warriors not being raised as highly as Hyrule Warriors. I doubt this next update will have the level cap jump from 130 to 255..so that, to me, says that a Season 2 of DLC was planned between development and the release of the first update. Maybe they saw how well 'two seasons' of DLC worked for Hyrule Warriors if you consider the three additional character packs for Hyrule Warriors Legends and decided to do it from the get-go.

I wouldn't be surprised if a Fire Emblem Warriors DLC Season 2 was announced during a Direct with one of the first characters highlighted or teased along with or only showing a new Season Pass costume.

Hyrule Warriors' DLC packs all at least got spotlighted in Directs.

No they didn't. All Hyrule Warriors & Hyrule Warriors Legends DLC stuff came via Japanese YouTube videos (which sometimes got translated) and Famitsu, outside of having a Season Pass, none of Hyrule Warriors DLC was featured in a Nintendo Direct, not even the Hyrule Warriors focused one. It only seemed to get more hype due to no one knowing who got in or got a costume until a trailer or Famitsu scan unlike with FE Warriors where we knew all of the DLC characters since release, only costumes have been a mystery.

So, no, despite what you may think, Hyrule Warriors did not get more promotion then Fire Emblem Warriors. Any slight differences in promotion were down to Zelda being Nintendo & Fire Emblem being Intelligent Systems.

And no, Hyrule Warriors Legends content announced as DLC for Hyrule Warriors in the Direct doesn't count.

  4. Yeah, it's hard to say what the costumes will be. They may come from Heroes like Caeda's wedding dress, be original like Marth or Tiki's outfits, come from other classes like Camilla or Takumi's, or any number of other things. The only thing we can say is that there will be 4 costumes if the previous packs are to be believed. Lucina has the bride, so it'll likely be between Robin, Chrom, Lissa, Frederick, and Cordelia..with maybe bonus costumes for Tharja, Owain, or Olivia akin to Azura. My bet is three of them will be Robin, Chrom, and Cordelia, the first two due to importance and Cordelia due to popularity.

I am hoping Cordelia gets a Caeldori alt though, along with Rhajat & Odin for Tharja & Owain. Just the outfits/styles, mind you, no name or voice changes.

  5. I'll be honest, clones never bother me unless they feel unfitting like Ganondorf in Smash Bros and I honestly don't think any of the ones in Fire Emblem Warriors feel out of character. Yes, Sakura fights like Takumi, but it seems in-character that if Sakura wished to learn archery, she'd have her brother, the archer, teach her how, just like she'd have Ryoma teach her how to use a sword or Hinoka teach her how to use a lance if she so desired. I always felt that Sakura's uncertain and unconfident nature was shown mostly in her social interactions.

On the flip side, had we gotten an infantry axe, such as Hector or Arthur, reusing Lissa's moveset as a playable character, THAT would have felt out of character.

As I've said before, sharing movesets in Fire Emblem Warriors fits well enough as it's also done a lot in Fire Emblem itself. I'd also much rather have more characters with a lot sharing movesets then less characters that all have unique movesets. Like I'd much rather play as Lucina, Lyn, and Sakura then Chrom, Navarre, and Takumi despite enjoying the base movesets.

That said, some 'Luigi-fication' of clones to make them more unique is typically a good thing.

  6. Just as an aside, I was annoyed in Hyrule Warriors due to Lana taking the moveset I felt would have been perfect for Saria were she used in the future, the Deku Stick.

I feel like clones are fine as long as the moveset is still fitting, which it by and large is in Fire Emblem Warriors. No characters feel like they are doing things they wouldn't do.

Should they just be called Diviner, Sky Knight, and Dark Mage costumes respectively? I can't imagine they'd go and give them different names/dialogue when equipped.

That would most likely be the case similarly to how the Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword outfits, and likely the upcoming Breath of the Wild outfits (which I suspect will be called 'Champion's Tunic/Dress'), were labeled. While it'd be cool for them to gain new names and voice quotes, I doubt they'd do it.

I did mean just the costumes for those respective characters.

I also think it'd be cool to do character reference costumes similar to the Skull Kid's Clothes costume for Lana in Hyrule Warriors, such as having Tiki dressed in Myrrh or Nowi's clothing or a child version of her adult clothes, Marth dressed in Sigurd or Leif's clothing, etc.

And just one I forgot, I'd love to see Marth get two previous costumes in a similar vein as Link's Classic Tunic from the Free Update, namely the two costumes I feel are the most iconic aside from his default and were used in his introductions to Japan and the West respectively, his classic 'no pants' look and his costume from Super Smash Bros Melee.

  8. I'll be perfectly honest, I hope they continue DLC costumes until everyone gets one, which could happen considering the costumes done in Hyrule Warriors, though I hope the DLC Crew aren't left out.

Some I'd love to see are Rhajat for Tharja, Caeldori for Cordelia (also Odin for Owain just for completions sake), Awakening & Fates Anna, Summer Corrin & Robin, and Awakening Celica.

I'd also love too see the Broken Armor Models and Cloaked Linde made use ble by the player since some look really good, particularly both Broken Lyns and Tikis.

Ah. I mean, the different skins for Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf alleviate that, but I get where you're coming from.

No they don't, you can still only have one 'Link' chosen, costumes don't change that. The example was that if they wanted to use the Spinner and someone else wanted to use Gauntlets, only one person got to since only one person could play as Link regardless of which costume was chosen.

On a similar note, my friend and I both love Lyn's moveset but only one of us can play as her, since Navarre is a clone of her, that is no longer an issue.

  10. 10 hours ago, Arthur97 said:

With Link, there was Toon Link and Young Link meaning that, yes, there was more than one Link.

Technically those Link's were different characters, being HW Link, MM Link, and WW Link. The reason Young Link had a different moveset was due to TK wanting to keep his moveset the same as Fierce Deity Link,  which was essentially OoT Link with the Biggoron Sword (which is why Young Link should have wielded his game's two handed sword, the Great Fairy Sword, rather then an enlarged Kokiri Sword).

Toon Link on the other hand was modeled off of how Link fought in the Wind Waker which differed from how he fought in Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and Super Smash Bros. which the main Link was based around.

For Fire Emblem Warriors, there's really not a lot of attacks and moves to base a moveset around, just hit, follow up, critical, and occasionally finishers or pair up attacks. Even then, most characters share those animations. Due to this, I'm fine with clones. Beyond that, it helps bring us the roster size a Fire Emblem title requires while also giving us options. For example, I love Chrom's moveset, but I like Lucina more, so I can enjoy his moveset but still play as Lucina. As another example, I don't really care for Takumi or Leo, but I can enjoy their movesets as Sakura and Elise.

  11. Favorites: Camilla & Lucina. I can't pin point why, but I adore their movesets.

Least Favorite: Tiki. It pains me to say it, since I love the lil cutie, but I most dislike her human form moveset. Dragon form is awesome though. With that said, I don't dislike her moveset overall, none of them are Agitha, Ruto, or Zant levels of annoying to play as for me.

Note: I haven't played as everyone yet, particularly most of the males (playing in co-op with guy friend).

  12. Why would they add English into the Japanese version via an update? It would only serve around 1% of those with the Japanese version. The Japanese version wasn't intended for an English player, the NTSC and PAL English versions were.

Fact is that patching English Subtitles and Voices would be a waste of time, money, and effort as it would be a useless feature for the overwhelming majority of those with the Japanese version.

  13. I just want more Fire Emblem Warriors in general, DLC or a new game in a year or two.

Not gonna lie though, I want Tellius included. Not for Ike though, but rather for the chance of Nephenee...also Sacred Stones just for Eirika.

I could see more characters included in a sequel if they continue to use the 'Class' template though, such as Nephenee using the upcoming Oboro/Azura moveset, while making new ones for Thieves/Ninja, Beastkin, non-loli Manaketes, Lance Cavalry, etc.

As for my dlc predictions, I just think that it's a little suspicious that they haven't said so by now, like how it was suspicious that it took them so long to mention shadow dragon characters. Like, don't you think it would have been a good idea to mention in this interview? Like, just say "There will be 3 new characters in each pack, but we'll also release Owain, Oboro etc. in an update for free!" That would have just made people more excited and therefore, more people would want to buy the game. It's a win win situation! But there silence is concerning.

The game only just released. When Hyrule Warriors released in Japan, they announced the DLC Season Pass/Packs first and then a week or two later announced that Cia, Volga, and Wizzro would be a free update.

Its also likely they didn't say anything about Navarre, Owain, Niles, Oboro, etc yet because, technically, we weren't supposed to know they were in the game until after release and people played through the story. I expect we'll hear something nearing the NA/EU releases similarly to Hyrule Warriors.

But the Lucina interview specifically mentioned they were against her inclusion on the grounds of too many sword users (among others)-- given what the game data shows, Celica and Lyn were the last additions to the roster. While using "forced" makes it sound like we know exactly what happened (we don't), it's a very easy conclusion to reach given what we do know.

The wording they used seemed more akin to them debating on whether or not to include Lucina, not that they were against including her. They never even said that they chose not to. It seemed more like Nintendo was the deciding factor.

I don't think Koei would tiptoe around this, they outright said Aonuma, the director of the Zelda series, told them not to use Tingle when they had planned to in the base game, even if he eventually became DLC.

My knowledge of Hyrule Warriors is very limited, but there definitely seems to be a difference in the casts of characters between FE and Zelda. At least with Hyrule Warriors, if your favorite game made it in, you'd probably be happy with whoever they pick because there's not as many possibilities (although I hear there's one fan favorite from Skyward Sword that didn't make it while a weird choice from Twilight Princess did, so maybe I'm incorrect in that assumption). With Fire Emblem, everyone tends to have a pretty different list of favorites for each game, so far fewer will actually end up fully content. I don't have the most informed opinion of HW though, so I apologize if I'm off on any of this.

Trust me, the possibility still existed..outside of the given characters (Link, Zelda, and Ganondorf) none of my favs made it in the base game. OoT Favs: Saria, Malon (I know, odd choice, but Agitha made it), Nabooru, TP Fav: Ashei, SS Fav: Groose. It wasn't until DLC that I got some non-core favs in with Young Link/Fierce Deity, Medli, and Marin..though no Hilda :C

Agitha was a..polarizing..choice to say the least considering you can go through all of Twilight Princess and never meet her while the demand for Groose from Skyward Sword was high and yet never came to be.

I think people are being a bit optimistic here. I feel like if we're getting the npc characters, than they'll be part of this dlc, not a free update. So I'm thinking we'll be getting:

    Fates: Azura, Oboro, Niles

    Awakening: Owain, Tharja, Gaius/Severa

    Shadow Dragon: Navarre, Minerva, Camus/Hardin

People are saying that they're not going to make us pay for characters already in the game, but I wouldn't put it past them. I doubt the Villains will ever be playable though. The only one I want to play as is Gharnef anyways.

Why do you feel like that? They didn't charge us for the OC NPC villains in Hyrule Warriors or even Medli in Hyrule Warriors Legends, who I still theorize was meant for base game but didn't get finished in time.

I mean, anything is possible, but I don't think they'll charge for characters mostly already in the game.

  16. As has been said, this game isn't doing anything Hyrule Warriors didn't do..with the exception of Lyn & Celica.

The focus is on three games. Ocarina of Time, Twilight Princess, and Skyward Sword for Hyrule Warriors, Shadow Dragon, Awakening, and Fates for Fire Emblem Warriors.

The game has an imbalanced roster. In Hyrule Warriors we had 2 OoT, 3 TP, and 2 SS (originally 2 OoT, 2 TP, 1 SS until Zant & Ghirahim were made playable last minute). I don't feel like counting representation of Fire Emblem Warriors, but we all know it's imbalanced, though more noticeable due to its larger roster.

A large portion of the games is ignored, character-wise, due to 3 game focus. Even adding Legends + DLC, some games with usable characters were ignored, notably Link to the Past (Aghanim), Oracles (Din, Nayru, Onyx, Veran), Minish Cap (Vaati), and Phantom Hourglass (Linebeck)..and the Groose is still not Loose (Skyward Sword). This is similar to Fire Emblem Warriors exclusions.

First Round DLC focuses on core 3 games..more or less. In Hyrule Warriors, most DLC was tied to the base games, with exception to the Termina Pack adding Young Link & Tingle, which was still a direct sequel to Ocarina of Time and Tingle was intended to be the Lyn/Celica of Hyrule Warriors until Aonuma told Koei not to use him in the base game thus making him DLC. We didn't get characters from completely unrelated games until Wind Waker in base Legends and it's DLC packs.

I also feel like the devs wanting to wait for a Fire Emblem Warriors 2 to include characters like Ike and Roy could be that they want to give them the importance they deserve. Otherwise I fail to see any logical reason for not making them DLC that would definitely make bank.

  17. 7 hours ago, eclipse said:

That's slightly more encouraging, thanks.  Glad that there's some point of reference in regards to Warriors-type games and DLC!

Yeah, when people say what was included, it doesn't sound like a lot, but those of us that got them know otherwise, the characters, weapons, and costumes were great, but they also had a crap ton of stuff to do in each adventure map, including new weapon levels to unlock (like 8bit versions) and new alternative colours which tended to reference other Zelda characters or previous alt colours (like Purple Link or Hilda for Zelda) along with just new challenges to undertake. Its funny just how much mileage re-used maps can get when new scenarios and missions are implemented. I also suspect Fire Emblem Warriors will offer more new characters then Hyrule Warriors did previously.

  18. 14 hours ago, eclipse said:

The price of the DLC is rather off-putting, and if my gut instinct is right, we may have a few more packs released at a later date.  If so, RIP my wallet.  I might skip some of it, just for the sake of my sanity.

I'm optimistic about the DLC. Hyrule Warriors & Hyrule Warriors Legends DLC Season Passes were $20 too and both offered a ton of content..so I'm sure I'll be content with what's offered.

  19. 4 hours ago, DragonFlames said:

The devs could very well work the DLC into the base game via pre-release patches, then. There is no reason (or justification) to announce or even just plan for any DLC before the game is even out. That just reeks of the usual 'Triple A' corporate greed we're all used to by now.

The least they could do is give us the extra content they made between the end of development and release on day one for free like Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth did and release any further additions to the roster they make for free, also like the aforementioned game (in Europe, at least).

By the way, don't you just love how IS or KC - whoever is responsible for the roster - is basically giving every fan of certain, very popular characters like Ike, Sigurd, Hector, Roy, etc. a giant middle finger? How people can stay hopeful for further DLC - content that should have been in the base game to begin with, mind you - after this announcement is beyond me, honestly.

      Hide contents

In my opinion, and this might sound harsh, people like that really shouldn't be pointing fingers at characters like Corrin, Eirika or Celica, anyone really, be they real or fictional, for being naive.

Don't read the above statement if you get triggered easily.

I'm always glad to be proven wrong on things like this, though, so don't hold my words against me later down the line.

DLC, especially in Japanese games, tend to be announced early on. Fact is it won't be shown off until later, probably is nowhere near finished, etc. Also, as was said, games are completely finished months, at least 2 months, ahead of release to make time to burn discs or make carts, print case paper, manuals, etc. DLC is also used to help recoup costs so as to not have to charge even more for games. Beyond that, DLC tends to have a budget completely separate from the main game it's for.

Tecmo Koei could also still release free update DLC like they did with Hyrule Warriors to add the OC villains, Link's classic costume, and Medli into the game.

I also feel that feeling you were personally insulted/flipped off is a bit too emotional a reaction to anything like this. Yes, it sucks those classic characters weren't include..yet..but that's all.

    Preach, man.

It's not just external sites - I've had to tell multiple people to tone it down.  It's a video game, which is really minor in the grand scheme of things.

Yup, I feel the same way. People like to throw around 'slap in the face' or 'insult' too much when it's really not at all the intention and more how they took news or information that they simply didn't like or agree with. I feel like people take things too personally or react too emotionally about rather inconsequential things. You can say it sucks or disagree with a decision but it's far from a personal slight.

I also know what you have to deal with here, I used to be a Global Moderator on Capcom's Official Forums, Capcom-Unity, between the announcements of Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 and Marvel vs Capcom Infinite..the timeframe being everyone being pissed at their DLC practices, lack of Mega Man in MvC, cancellation of Mega Man Legends 3, lack of Mega Man games, and DmC with the bad Dante design...I hope you at least haven't gotten death threats lol
