  1. I was giddy when I discovered Hiyama voiced Cain. Why the heck nobody of the Fates husbandos has his voice?</3 /offtopic I don't think they're very similar aside from the medieval things and the fact that they're both published by Nintendo.
  2. I expect a Fates anime at this point. I'd rather have a 12 episodes F-Zero GX anime by MAD HOUSE!
  3. Otaku. Otaku are accepting things a normal Japanese person usually wouldn't because they have a fetish for it, or have been desensitized to it due to the media they consume, or both. Like, for example, a lot of people, to defend lolicon and shotacon (now staples of anime/manga works), say the age of consent is 13... but it's only half true. It's legal if the people are both 13 or one is very near their partner's age, and in some regions of Japan, the age of consent is higher due to their slightly different laws. Also Otaku are not seen well by society, and lolicon is a national shame (I read this in an article from 1999 so this stance could very well have been changed). If somebody knows more about Japanese culture than me, feel free to correct me. I could be wrong.
  4. Fave: PoR + RD. Although if it really wanted to have more fans, it should've been longer, and but it's already extremely long as it is... so... yeah. Ambition, I like ambitious games. Least fave: Awakening for reasons I explained multiple times. I don't want to start sounding like a broken record.
  5. I know, it's also done in other FE games, but Awakening exaggerated it IMO.
  6. I did, I think I put 50 hours something into it and then stopped because I dislike the gameplay. I am not a SMT expert at all, but I found Persona 4 to be a game with interesting points ruined by the turbo weeaboo feeling and fanservice, also humor put in the wrong situations. Some characters were literally unbearable for me, like Teddy, Yukiko, Chiie and Yosuke. Plus the protagonist always seemed like a douchebag to me (no idea why lol), I saw him as walking wish fullfillment. Oh yeah, I got something wrong-- with "sugar coated" writing I wanted to say it's well written (a bit pompous, with things like Kingdom changed to "Halidom" to enrich something that was not rich at all to begin with) for something so shallow, not that the game is too happy. But it still is-- it's far happier than Tellius. One of the things about Tellius is that it implies the relationships between countries and races will take time to develop into something better. This you see in PoR to RD. In RD it's never shown but I guess it's still there. I can also understand if Tellius stopped conflicts for a while simply because the whole continent is tired of war, too. Sacred Stones also has an omnious feeling to it, because no matter what happens a terrible event will strike the continent after the events of the game. Plus the series, while always ending on a happy note, was always filled with dread, and you could feel this. Awakening, I couldn't feel it at all. FE stories mostly feel like conflicts between countries or parties (with exceptions), while Awakening felt like ROBIN & CHROM'S EXCELLENT ROMANTIC SHONEN ADVENTURE XDDD. I'm exaggerating, but I guess you can get what I mean. I don't mind happy stories, or dark stories ending on a happy note; however, Awakening really wants me to understand Akaneia has become a harsh world, but at the same time characters happily talk about bear meat and find true love and marriage in little children. It kills the tone and in the end I don't understand how Yilisse, Plegia or Ferox truly feel, because nobody (especially in the main story) talks about the world around them, they either talk about fluff or have a discussion about the current events. Valm, you can understand it a bit more, but Valm is useless. Not to mention I forgot to say how some of Awakening' stupidest events can't let me take the story seriously. Really, Chrom giving the Emblem to Validar because it was Robin' super sekrit plan. Hiding things from the player is bad if you just want to have a plot twist, in fact, it's the worst use of plot twists. Not to mention it's the ultimate show of Robin not being you but a standalone Mary Sue character. That, for me, is the peak of the game's suckage, along with the endings (both, but Chrom's takes the fucking cake). Oh, and the extra, non-canon paralogues are the thing that makes it all even worse.
  7. Well, Thane, I'll speak for myself now: while I love some FE stories even if they are far from perfect, I mostly play FE for the gameplay, therefore even if the story is crap (like FE7, where I mostly enjoy the characters and go "lolwut" at the cutscenes, even if I like the writing translated by Alexander O Smith), I enjoy it overall, I care for my units because they either are likable enough or strong pillars of my team, I get touched by certain events even if they are babby tier emotional writing, et cetera., because it's not my main focus and it's a very good dessert for the main course. For example, FE6 is very bland, with short cutscenes and an unimpressive main character, but over all, it explains almost everything, everything works alright, nothing is particularly off, the gameplay is awesome (for me), so in the end I am satisfied with it, and I still like Allen and Lance even if they are literally "We will protect Roy cuz we are loyal Royal Guards", or Clarine even if she is just a snob princess, or Saul even if he just your typical idiot perv, etc., because first it doesn't feel pretentious, second the gameplay puts my units in such stakes I end up caring about them regardless. What I said pretty much works for all of the FE games whose plot I like, with of course their own issues and problems and strenghts. It has always been good enough (sometimes better, like Tellius, which for me has the best stories; plus Jugdral is an exception to all things I just said, it probably needs its own post), regardless of the actual quality. Also because the games never were too exaggerate, they never felt like they overdid it. It all worked and tied up things well for the gameplay. But Awakening for me was so bad I could not excuse it. It's one of the worst plots I have ever read in my life, surpassed only by Other M. The reason why is because of the three arcs very loosely and badly linked together, and because some of the events really insulted my intelligence, more than some of FE7's, more than Blood Pacts, more than Ashnard's "lol I'm mad". The witty suger coated false-epic writing only made things worse. It all feels like a string of dumb events one after another... plus every FE had a bit of basic world building once, Awakening lacks even that and it always feels like units are always ready for dumb anime banter ever between terrible wars. It doesn't feel like the wars in Awakening are terrible at all. And Chrom, and Frederick, and Emmeryn, and Validar, and Gangrel, and the player worship, oh God. What ruins it all is how much it overdoes it, it puts so much pathos on shit shonen-tier things, The best part about Awakening's plot was the story DLC "Future of Despair" whatsitsname, "Futuro Anteriore" in Italian. It felt like an actual story with stakes, with serious characters, with better threats, etc, not a bunch of bad little episodes that are supposed to be all part of the same story. I think all of that is not forgivable and while in other FEs I don't tend to skip the story, with Awakening, I always skip it; it's so bad it's a hindrance. A game that gave me a similar feeling but much worse was Yakuza 2: a sound game, a perfect sequel gameplay-wise, but the story not only was over the top anime tier (more than the first, even!), it denied everything the first game talked about. Therefore it ruined the whole experience. ps: regardless of everything I just said, I still value plots in story driven RPGs and JRPGs a lot. In fact, I am extremely critical of bad JRPG stories. pps: Loki Laufeyson, Xenogears is AWESOME!!!!!!! -- I am proud of all of you guys who played the older games. I have nothing against newer fans that won't play them or dislike them, but I surely do dislike the ones that talk shit about them and say crap like older games are not relevant... and who knows if they are trolling or not. Youtube is usually pretty serious in its dumbness, and I have received a lot of flak for being against Awakening or Fates (when I was polite and I did not attack fans), got called an elitist, heard shit like "It sucks because I can't marry Lyn!" and so on. But I feel like Franky will now reprimend me for believing in shitposting. Ouch.
  8. The opinions would be even more divisive but we probably wouldn't have needed Awakening's extreme style change.
  9. Well I am legit obtuse on the subject, also because even if my english is good (I GUESS THIS IS DEBATABLE) there are still some nuances that I don't understand (such as what is engulfed by the term "pop culture"), plus my wording is bad sometimes. But it's alright, don't worry, I guess it's hard to put up with my bs...
  10. I think you should use who you want on your first run, also because Birthright has infinite EXP! So don't sweat it too much. Maybe you should simply avoid the bottom tiers, which I believe are Orochi (too slow), Rinkah (low damage), Subaki (weird growths, too slow) and Hinata (same reasons as Subaki). Also not many use Asama because there is already Sakura as your healer, plus he has weird growths for being a Priest, but I heard he can be a monster. But even then, I encourage you to try "bad" characters out: you might find something peculiar in them!
  11. I would've understood your point just as well if you weren't so rude. Your tone really left a bitter taste in my mouth. I see, thank you. Although I'm still a bit iffy on this because both things require you to know something beforehand to understand them. Plus memes are becoming more and more part of pop culture... but I guess they just don't have the lasting power of referencing famous movie lines or books.
  12. Oooh my goodness I can't wait! Are you going to publish your thoughts too like you did with Awakening's plot in that hour long vid?
  13. Nah, she would have the people who like homely, weird, somewhat neet antisocial girls instead, like that creepy trainer who uses ghost Pokèmon in XY. I also believe her darkness and humor clearly attract people who are into dark stuff and being a bit edgy(same for Henry). I'm not 100% sure if she would have a lot less fans. Maybe a bit less, but Tharja stands out, and characters that stand out usually have strong fans and strong haters regardless. --- Her other designs look so much cooler, because I dislike hime cuts. Lol.
  14. Chapter 5. I stopped playing Lunatic at chapter 5, because it was too fucking hard and I wanted to use the save file to fool around on Hard/Classic. But I still like it. I should probably try to finish Lunatic one day, but it's demoralizing; not because it's hard, but because like all of the game it somehow feels unrewarding :(
  15. Woah! You should try to release it when the game comes out for maximum traffic if you can! Just a curiosity: 3 videos, 1 for each path, or 1 video for all of them? Or is this top secret information?
  16. Seems like nitpicking a bit. Aren't memes still part of pop culture?
  17. This theory is poop because Cordelia and Matoi are the worst waifus, because I said so, and my dad works at IS, so what I say is canon.
  18. It's impossible to talk one of them into Birthright, and the other would rather have the special edition. And, the FE7 issue: Emulation is probably too much work for them unless I go to their house and help them; then, even if they might like the story or characters, they probably won't like it enough to play it without stuff like pairing up units to get children, My Castle, etc. I guess I'm being pessimistic here, but they tend to prefer flashy games that are easy to play, Pokèmon or Animal Crossing. In the end, I'm kind of afraid one of them might sell it, but I'm sure Phoenix mode will help her out.
  19. Did I say that example was a wrong way to use it? I don't think I did. I said that exaggerating it is wrong. Phoenix Wright/Ace Attorney 1 did it very well, but Justice for All, for example, did overdo it, IMO; the clown was all about memes, and it was obnoxious instead of funny. And his original post did not mention how the series in Japanese had references and memes that only Japanese people would understand, he said: These jokes could also include puns and word plays. I don't want to extrapolate Phoenix Wright's script in both languages and do a 1/1 comparison now though.
