You will fall into a bottomless pit and die multiple times even if you utilize a few weapons based tricks to stay in the air and/or keep damaging it. Try and get a Forneus. It has this one electric attack which, most of the time, sends the enemies hit into shock, making them skip their moves for that turn. I didn't play very far in (I made it up to SPOILER), but it actually works on the bosses up until then. I don't know anything passed that.
