As for getting his "ass handed to him",he would be more affected by losing in itself than losing to a woman.I mean,when you work with someone like Aiya for so long,you get used to the fact that girls have the ability to cause you very high amounts of physical pain,even if she doesn't actually attack him.Some of the best troops in his squadron were women.
