It's not what appeared in the official Nintendo translation, it's not what appears in official Nintendo character art, and it doesn't even appear in the ROM's debug data, even though that does coincidentally contain some other bizarre L/R switches ("Sirence" (the staff/status effect, presumably), "Elic").
