To Davod, she stated dutifully as she raised her spear in salutation, "I am Mireille and I shall see to it that I keep both you and the archer away from harm. You are proficient in healing magic I hope?"

Leverager and Utka: Boarding

When the Leverager and the Dark Utka were aligned, the suspense was finally blown away by intense cannon fire. The noise alone had Raquel cringing. She couldn't hear much else. Bogdan's men were just waiting for this moment to come, and two groups of ten men came running from the port side of the deck, each group carrying a massive plank. They were planning to use them as bridges to get Raquel's people across. The crew of the Dark Utka wasn't completely on defense, yet, as some of their men were already swinging across while one of their own teams brought up a large plank of their own.

<"I thought they might try this if we didn't get them to huddle up together quickly enough, but this does spread them out enough for Raquel to cut through them. DON'T GIVE THEM AN INCH, MEN!!!> Raquel! It's time!" Just as Bogdan got Raquel's attention, the plank teams threw down their makeshift bridges, and then they dove out of the way to avoid the small arms fire while their supports shot back. A thunder spell came arcing across the gap between the two ships and struck down one of the Leverager's rifleman. In return, an entire firing squad unloaded on them and cleared a path onto the main deck. "Remember what I told you." he added with a nod." Raquel nervously nodded in return and then turned to face the party.

"W-watch each other's backs, alright?! We've never had a fight like this before!" she instructed while desperately trying to fight off a small panic attack.

"Loike Faatina said, let's tear'em apart!" Gabbie added in.

"Heh ... I kind of want the captain's head after all of this. Alright, that's what I plan to do ... take him down." Shadrak chimed in as he brandished his tome. "Whoever wants to die first, just come this way." he added for the enemies heading their way.

It would have been nice to take the initiative, but the Utka teams emerged the second the path had been cleared. There were only nine of them, but they made it onto the Leverager and to the party before they had a chance to board as one group. They would have to take them down before crossing over. Even more concerning was a group of wyvern riders that had appeared. It wasn't a legion, but they could flank in an environment like this. Even Raquel was still coherent enough to realize that. "Keep an eye out for those wyvern riders and push past these guys! We'll never win if we can't at least board!" she ordered.

"Need a bunch of women to do your dirty work now, Captain Bogdan? Hehehehehhhh" one of the smugglers spoke up, apparently the leader of the boarding group. He had a sword in one hand and a grenade in the other. Not good.

And so, their battle began. Before they could even make headway, a decent chunk of enemies had stormed the Leverager. It seemed that they would need to break through before advancing. Seeing Aneda and Davod both strike blows at a mage, Faatina rushed at the foe in order to put him down before he managed to do some real damage.

Fortuitously, she ended up hitting the man from behind, and she thrust her lance towards his chest, spearing him cleanly through the heart, the unfortunate man going limp instantly, as Faatina ripped her spear from his corpse.

'I still have momentum. I can still land another blow, I'm sure of it...'

The apparent leader of this group was close by, within striking distance. Faatina swung her lance at him using what momentum she had retained, and dealt a hefty blow, the shaft of her spear dealing a solid impact to the man's legs, sweeping him off his feet and onto the wooden deck with a resounding thud. He did manage to give two quick counter attacks with his small blade, lunging from the floor, though neither did much damage at all. Only one had even caused Faatina to bleed, and there was almost no pain from it until she moved to ready herself for her next foe.

'My arm feels sluggish...' Faatina noted, giving a slight wince as she moved it. Had he hit a tendon?

Raquel pulled herself together as the first blows were exchanged. She wasn't sure what tactics they would use, and like hell she was going to come up with anything. Blake got her attention, though and hinted at the plan. The grenadier leading the enemy. Their entire strategy for taking the Utka was to take out the leadership and then deal with everyone else. Why not do so for basic tactics as well? She nodded at him and prepared to get him into position, as well as boon both of her teammates.

Norbert was about to help the little mage onto Rizen's back when the Leverager was boarded by the enemies. "Looks like the fight's coming to us. I'll give you a lift when we board them," Norbert decided as he informed Ranyin and readied himself to fight, carefully watching as the fight began.

Well, as the clash began, Blake stepped away from the from lines for a moment to observe the enemy formations. It appeared as if the grenadier was the leader of this wave, so he'd be the first target. The swordsman made some gestures to Raquel in the hopes that she would catch on and allow him to ambush the rogue, which she did. A quick stab through the back ended the sailor's hopes of blowing the Leverager up, and with that done, the swordsman recommenced his stalk for priority targets.

Too late, the fight was brought to the Leverager. <So much for that.> John thought. <Well, at least while here we don't have to deal with the smoke... yet.> And so they descended somewhat, near Raquel.

It seems said chance got delayed. The enemy boarded the ship before they could. The fight began and already some of their own were injured. Sophia quickly looked, and headed towards the pegasus rider who attacked the now dead mage, and used her staff.

[Aneda's HP +12. Current HP: 15/15. +2 points for Chelsea/Gytha/Sophia. Sophia's current total: 49.]

Hands facing the enemy, Ranyin concentrated for a moment in preparation to unleash his spell. He waited for Veronika to move to flank the enemy before lashing out with his spell...being somewhat familiar with the swordmaster's moves after the few battles alongside her. The swift bolt of darkness smashed into the side of the fighter's head blinding him momentarily as he was concentrating on the foe close to him.

That brief disruption proved costly as it made him unable to defend himself against the two swift masterful strikes that sliced across him with the final stroke decapitating the fighter just as he regained his vision completely. A pitiful thing to see his death flashing before him as the last he saw of this world.

As the battle started, Mireille quickly observed the companions. Seeing the bard act first, Mireille knew all too well that he had exposed himself...and made himself a target. It would not do to have him struck down with her nearby, soilnig the knightly honour.

Raising her shield, Mireille raised it and faced the soldiers while smirking slightly at the mages, effectively placing herself between them and Davod. She felt confident she could hold back the assault from those two kinds of foes...but the axe users left her worried. But she decided to think off the weapon the bard used. A whip? Really? Pfft...it tickled at her humour slightly, banishing away some of her fear of the fighters as she had intended.

Leonty was attacked before he could even throw off one grenade, but he survived the attack and gave the lancer her due. He considered falling back so he could properly nurse his wounds. No that was exactly what he planned on doing. "This isn't over yet. Hold the line a bit longer, men. I'm going to get bac-Ack!" his parting words to Faatina and his underlings was cut short by a terrible pain in his back. "So this is what ... defeat feels like ..." he muttered before collapsing onto the deck, revealing his attacker behind him, Blake.

The same swordsman from earlier had finished off the supposed squad leader right after he had threatened her. All seemed well enough, until the wind blast struck Faatina with the force of a hurricane. The gust was more than enough to do tear into her as it unrelentingly battered her body, an eventual burst of power causing the unsuspecting Paladin to be swept off her feet, and slammed hard into the side of the Dauntless. The unassuming wagon looked as though it was made of wood, but unfortunately for Faatina, it was solid steel.

"D-damn it..." She muttered weakly, as she fell to the deck with an indignant thud.

[Rothene]

Repeating the same maneuver, Ranyin prepared to blast the fighter who attacked the pegasus knight with an odd taste for hair colour. He may have started off detesting her somewhat. But he had decided she was not a bad sort of person, hence tolerable. Channeling his magic, Ranyin released that empowering presence to boost Veronika and Bert's combat prowess, granting them enhanced clarity of thought.

Again, Ranyin was able to distract his opponent...with more force than he had intended too. So much that he almost let the spell slip, but the forces acting on the spell was surprisingly easy to master. He could get used to this new type of magic. Veronika decided to aim low for a change, maiming the her foes so that he would not be able to retaliate...then closed in for the kill when he was too helpless to save himself from a sword trust through his chest.

Man...how does she keep fighting so well, thought the Kigenese mage with a small sense of dread creeping up the back of his mind. Thank the five dragons she's on our side.

The fighter's powerful swing nearly knocked Mireille off her feet. Only her sheer willpower kept her standing. With agonising steps, Mireille retreated back slightly, to better position herself to protect the now exposed Robin. The bard, she knew, could probably dance and sing around his foes for all she care. She had seen the archer fallen a few times in battle, perhaps a mere mortal like her could help ward away the cruelty of the cold blades in her opponent's hands.

No points for the dumb green haired girl or her team. That's laughable. I mean come on, the guy is probably laughing at y- yeah he's laughing. Oh my god how could you shame me so you miserable little pile of hair color... I mean look at Dav there, he dodged the goddamn wind. Wind. You know, fast moving particles of air that are all around you? He dodged it. He didn't really do much with his whip, I mean he messed up the distance and hit with the base of the weapon, but he at least managed something impossible. Goddamn... GET A JOB.

So the fighting began. At first, Norbert just hung back. There wasn't much room to move around and most the others were already up on the front lines. Ranyin and Veronika were working together for now and were doing very well as a team. He wasn't even needed. Though some of the group members took harsh counters -- with Faatina even being blown back against the Dauntless (which, in all honestly, Norbert found kind of funny) -- they were all still in fair fighting condition. Earlier in the fight, Blake had killed the guy coordinating this particular bunch of sailors. Show-off. He didn't particularly care at the moment. Annoying? Yes. Though not enough for him to do anything about it right now.

Faatina groaned, her body wrought with pain as she tried to move.

'I... I can't just stay down...'

A heaving cough, and a shot of blood splattered before her. Not good, something inside must have broken, running her hand across her stomach, it was fairly quick to see that it was probably a rib or two. Looking about, she saw several other still engaged with the enemy, but something caught her eye. Norbert was still hanging back, just watching. He had even watched her be thrown into the solid steel wall, and though she couldn't be certain, she thought she had seen him crack a smile at it.

"W-what's wrong, Norbert?" Faatina coughed out, pushing herself up off the ground and attempting to steady herself with her lance.

"Why aren't you fighting? They're right there in f-front of you." Faatina managed, giving the man an inquisitive gaze as she inched back towards the fight, each step feeling heavier than the last.

"You scared or something? These guys aren't so tou-" Faatina attempted to continue, but to no avail. She gave out under the weight of her own body and armour, and crumpled to the deck floor, having made it scarce more than a foot from the Dauntless, lance clattering at her side as she clutched her stomach in pain, sharp spasms wracking her frame, as she spit out more blood to paint the Leverager's deck.

He was watching the battle when someone began talking to him. As he looked over, the pegasus rider noticed it was Faatina. She was really struggling. Huh? I guess that blow did more than knock the wind out of her. he thought with a grimace as he realized that she was probably actually hurt worse than he thought. She proceeded to ask why he wasn't fighting. Isn't it obvious? There was no room. I didn't want to jump over anyone either and risk getting caught up in this wind or Riz accidentally kicking someone's head. He would've replied with that but she continued before he could. When she asked if he was scared, Norbert's expression shifted into a light glare. Though she was clearly struggling, that jab pushed him to prove her otherwise. He was distracted again when she fell over, the fall cutting herself off. That caused Norbert to make a quick decision.

"No way! I'm not scared! I'll show you -- just stay there and watch!" he retorted, covering his sympathy with pride. And this time let a healer get to you, by Mercy. So, filling the gap that Faatina left in their defenses, Norbert charged at one of the enemy lancers, maces ready.

The enemy lancer was surprised by a pegasus suddenly charging at him. Out of reflex, he swung his lance, parrying the blow the mace would've delivered. "Blast it!!" Wait a minute, that voice was...a man's? Yes, that was a man riding a pegasus. Well, it didn't matter. The lancer countered the frustrated pegasus rider with a swift swing of his lance.

Riz turned as Norbert's attack was parried. Unfortunately, that left Norbert open for the counter. His reward was the head of the enemy's lance bashing against he back of his head and making a long cut from his ear across his cheek. Gytha had been helping the crew with shooting back at the enemy ship for a short while before moving back to Raquel's group. Without hesitation, the mariner charged at an enemy she saw stagger a little.

With a flash of the mariner's sword, the mage cried out and sputtered, but with the force of that very blow, was shoved off the deck into the water between the two ships. "OUT O' TH' WAY!" Gytha demanded of their enemies, fully intent on getting past them and onto the Dark Utka as they were supposed to be doing. Her voice actually sounded almost like a rumbling roar as she gave that order and her eyes were hard -- she wasn't about to go easy on anyone who stood in her way.

The fighting continued, and Leonty's team was falling apart under the backlash they received from Raquel's unit. They were vicious, and not a one of them had gone down for the count. They could already tell their attempt to hold the Leverager's main deck was a failure. Bogdan even relaxed from giving orders to shoot another Utka crewman sending him over the guardrails. It was a slaughter ...

Meanwhile Shadrak recovered from his injuries thanks in no small part to Nadya. Again? Oh for ... "Yeah I'll .. consider that. We're doing well enough that I can switch tactics. We don't want anyone going down right now or we'll lose our momentum, so yeah, I'll heal someone." With that he began looking, and he quickly found someone who could use a touch of healing magic. He hurried over to Faatina and began to heal her. "Don't slow us down, alright? We need to get onto the Utka and take over before they try anything crazy." he advised.

Gabbie wasn't far away and fell back to the Dauntless to see what was going on. Shadrak was playing medic again and Faatina was recovering from a devastating blow. This wasn't good.

"Faatina, that lancer Shadrak lost to is still aloive'. Even Bert couldn't take him. We need to get rid of him roight now. I know you're hurt so I'll cover ya." Gabbie explained.

"Hey! I didn't lose."

Norbert took her words to heart, it seemed, as he valiantly charged the enemy soldier. He didn't kill him, or even damage him, but atleast he was in the fight and not just standing idly by, she supposed.

Then perhaps the greatest feeling Faatina could recall experiencing, the soothing feel of a heal staff mending her wounds. Followed by the sound of Gabbie's voice in her ear, and a helping hand to get back on her feet. Faatina could stand, hell, she could even walk without feeling that searing pain anymore. It seemed that, at the very least, she could get back in the fight.

"Faatina, that lancer Shadrak lost to is still aloive'. Even Bert couldn't take him. We need to get rid of him roight now. I know you're hurt so I'll cover ya."

Faatina nodded affirmatively as Gabbie spoke, wiping the remnants of the latest blood shower from her lips.

"Gotcha. Let's take him out... I'm counting on ya." Faatina replied with a smile, as the pair moved towards the target. The man seemed quite resilient, having warded off several of their attacks so far.

"Okay... and, go!" Faatina signaled, charging the lance user. Faking him out to the right, Faatina brought her lance hard into the man's torso, the blade digging into his stomach and locking itself into place between two of his ribs. As Faatina applied pressure, she forced the man to retaliate, falling right into the set trap. His lance, aimed to decapitate Faatina, was instead blocked by Gabbie. The man had naught but time to let out a short scream before Gabbie followed up on the attack, driving the head of her spear clean through the man's skull, grey matter being showered upon the deck with little attempt at grace or majesty. It was a brutal strike, the lancer's head voided from his body at the jaw, as Faatina pulled her own lance back, breaking off the offending rib in the process.

"Well, looks like he's taken care of." Faatina noted to Gabbie, before the retreat began...

When Faatina and Gabbie brutally put down the resilient lancer from the Utka, that was the last straw. Six men down in the space of a minute or two. No one left had the authority to give such an order but no one was complaining when the second lancer yelled "FALL BACK TO THE SHIP, DAMMIT!!! THERE'S NO TAKING THE DECK!!! FALL ... BACK!!!" And like that, they all turned tail and ran back across the bridges over to the Utka's main deck. Anyone who didn't follow them was taken down by Bogdan's men inside a minute.

"RAQUEL!!! IT'S NOW OR NEVER!!! FOLLOW THEM!!!" he ordered, and after that he shot someone else. No one seemed to be able to get close enough to Bogdan to force him to draw his sword, it seemed.

ALL ENEMIES HAVE FALLEN BACK TO THE DARK UTKA. NO TARGETS AVAILABLE UNTIL PLAYER PHASE THREE.

Finally the wyvern riders made their move. When Motya spotted Leonty dead and the remnants of his squad falling back like a bunch of crazed civilians, he spat into the air and gritted his teeth. "That captain just likes to add insult to injury, doesn't he. Routed by a bunch of little girls and pretty boys. I'm putting a stop to this before they ever set foot on our ship. Men! Block them!" Motya and his riders flew down to prevent Raquel's people from moving up, and what was worse, several magic users were moving across to the Leverager. That was all the backup they needed, and Leonty's men stopped in their tracks. "Where do you think you're going?! This isn't over yet. Fall in line!" Motya ordered.

Gytha began running in as she heard the captain giving the order, but was cut off by a bunch of wyverns. They began issuing their own orders and so Gytha simply rushed the mage who had been retreating, but stopped to fight them again.

Gytha's mad dash left her a little tired but she didn't notice until after her sword had cut halfway into the mage's spine from the side in a wide, sweeping slash. The force from the slash sent the mage into the water, like the last one. "I said t' get out o' me way, ye bottom-feedin' scallywags!" she cried out in impatient anger to the remaining enemies.

Norbert's head took a little bit of time to recover and even then he still felt a bit like he was floating. That could've gone better... he woozily thought. Oighh.... Huhh..? Sweet--! Graghh... Reinforcements... I hate...these people...gah...

The pegasus rider shook his head to clear it. Okay, okay... So... Now what? Uhh... Hmm. He wasn't really sure what to do at the moment and was still slightly dazed.

I gotta work out more."- Chelsea told herself as she was running around the battlefield trying to see who needed healing. Thankfully it seemed like they were going to win without any casualties so she resorted to spend her time cheering from the sidelines. And then came the enemy reinforcements...

"What!? Oh damnit that's really cheap!"

Deciding NOW would be a good time to do something Chelsea lifted her staff and sent energy towards Norbert.

There was a small victory to be sure. They had managed to push the soldiers that had been on the top of the deck back swiftly despite the rocking of the ships. Robin wondered how anyone could even fight on such a field as she knocked her next arrow and reinforcements flew in. She would need a moment to steady herself for sure before she could fire again with accuracy.
