So I was thinking about the knock out tournament style we ran previously and how people disliked being outed after losing once, at least I did. I looked into different styles of tournaments. the Swiss system looks a good replacement. And we know about how relatively good the quote was compared to each other.

here is how it works, I simplified it too a bit too.

Round one happens.

people are placed into two groups.

Winners

not winners

winners earn one point

---

the people with one point face off against each other

the ones with zero points face off with each other

winners of each earns a point.

-

the ones with the nearest point value face off with each other

point is awarded as above.

---

very little record keeping is required.

Just...

people who have:

0 : ;_;

1 : :(

2 :/

3 :)

4 and so on...

---

this continues till we feel it is done. Then knock out time for the highest point totals.

Also try to avoid facing off against the same person when possible.

anyone likes my idea?

Okay I Just noticed this post... I will have to think about it, if I can get my head around how it works haha, will wait till the current round of polls are finished and the matches start to decide XP

I don't think that will be necessary since everyone get's there most popular quote put in.

The benefits of this system is that everyone goes every round, and the winners gets paired with the winners and the opposite occurs. Meaning we can tell how good your quote really was and things like the top two favorites gets placed in the first round and knock each other out aren't likely to occur and redemption for your loss quote is possible. And stopping is easy, just grab the people with the highest point totals and place them against each other in a knock out tourney. Also as you can see below, the winners are not going to to be affected, they will just keep on winning, so there is no problem there.

[spoiler=round 1]

the first round everyone faces off against each other.

The winners earn one point

example

there are 16 contestants A-P

for the sake of simplicity, everyone on the left wins.

Everyone is placed in the zero point pool in the beginning:

0pts.

AB

CD

EF

GH

IJ

KL

MN

OP

-

so...

ACEGIKMO

are the winners and earn one point and are placed into the one point pool to face off against each other

BDFHJLNP

have zero point since they did not win the first round and did not earn a point. They remain in the zero point pool to face off again

[spoiler=round 2]

0pts

–-

BD

FH

JL

NP

1pts

–-

AC

EG

IK

MO

Now, the people in their own pool face off, the winners earn one point.

1pt pool winners:

AEIM

so these four fellows earn one more point and go into the 2pts. pool

then, the zero point pool people face off against each other, the winners earn a point and go into the 1pt

0pt. pool winers

BFJN

-

After losing the first round BFJN managed to win and earn a point, they go into the 1 pt pool along with the others.

[spoiler=round 3]

0pt

DH

LP

1pt

BF

JN

CG

KO

2pt

AE

IM

2pt winners

AI

1pt winners

BJCK

0pt winners

DL

[spoiler=round 4]

0pt (poor chaps)

--

HP

1pt

DL

FN

GO

2pt

BJ

CK

EM

3pt

AI

so this will continue till we feel the everyone is settled in their place and we go knock out elimination on the people with the highest pt totals.

So, anyone likes this system?

If this system were to run, then I suggest only doing serious or silly since there would be more record keeping and the tourney would be a bit longer so the need to run through it faster and less problems for the recordkeeper.

the only serious death quote I need: "Imagine punching somebody so hard that they turned into a door. Then you found out thats where ALL doors come from, and you got initiated into a murder club that makes doors. The stronger you punch, the better the door. So there are like super strong murderers who punch people into Venetian doors and shit."(just kidding, editing this with serious quotes after my class lol)

Where is that joke even from?
