That's how I understood the comparison with Awakening. Awakening tried to introduce new features. However unfortunately things like pair-up were implemented badly and it focussed on minor things like support system and fanservice at cost of good gameplay. I never have heared that Shin Megami Tensei fans were disappointed from the Persona series. I always thought that these games are really beloved, at least Persona 3. It's super expensive (comparable with the Tellius games). And PS2 emulators don't work on my laptop. Persona 3 + 4 were the reason why I rebought a PS2. Funny enough:The console cost less than each game. I must look for SMT games for the GBA or DS. I only know that SMT I was released for the GBA in Japan.
