Langrisser Rebirth (3DS)

There's a new strategy/rpg game coming out for the Japanese 3DS on July 23rd: Langrisser Rebirth.

Website:

http://langrisser.jp

It's the first Langrisser game to come out in 15 years. In my opinion, the second Langrisser game (Der Langrisser) is one of the best srpg game ever created and Langrisser IV was also very good.

For the uninitiated, Langrisser has a 10HP structure where you current hit points affects damage, ala Advance Wars. Unlike Advance Wars, the game features both commander units (which are full-fledged characters with abilities, supports, dialogs, ect, just like Fire Emblem) and mercenary units under the command of those commanders. It's a unique a very fun setup.

I can't vouch for the quality for this new Langrisser game... But I do have the collector edition preordered and I'm looking forward very much to this game.

Is there anyone else buying the game? If so, please feel free to talk about it in this topic! I'm more than willing to offer any translations (as limited as they will be) and findings to everyone interested!

Edit: Changed website address. It's strange, it does not work as a clickable link, but it works fine when the address is typed in the browser (?).

The first one is on Genesis

Under the name Warsong, that is.

EDIT: As for the op:

the second Langrisser game (Der Langrisser) is one of the best srpg game ever

Yes, this is an assessment that I agree with.

Langrisser 4 was also great I agree, I just didn't like how L4 on the PS1 used the same movement format as Langrisser 5

EDIT 2: I can't get it for reasons, but yes, some translations would be rather nice.

I've been meaning to look into the series, what was the first one for?

As mentionned, its for the Genesis.

However, I'd STRONGLY suggest that you start with Der Langrisser instead. It's for the Super Familcom/Japanese SNes, and there's a complete translation patch available. The first one (Warsong, the only localized game in the serie) is definitively playable, but it is pretty lackluster both in story and gameplay compared to the games that came after it. It would be kind of akin to starting with Fire Emblem 1. There's also a full translation patch available for the Playstation 1 version of Langrisser IV.

I'll keep you guys posted with my comments and help out as best as I can when I receive the game (Likely one or two weeks from now).

Alright thank you, I do tend to start with the first games when I can, I mean I started Shin Megami Tensei with 1, and ended up liking it.

From what I got from these games, the genesis version is basically the same title as the SNES version, but there are a lot of changes that makes the genesis game more limited. The SNES version has more complete maps and more events that happen between battles (they are not linear. For example, if at first you need to rescue x, you might have to flee from y next). Overall, you'll get a more complete experience from the SNES version than the Genesis version.

Hm, I thought these games were good, but kind of hard for me to get into. I'll try playing the SNES one again some day, and when that new title is released in english (if it IS released in english), I'll give it a try.

The Cellica design was drawn by a porn artist and it wasn't all that sensual. Let's hire him instead to keep characters clothed.

Close, but Der Langrisser on the Snes is a port of Langrisser 2 on the genesis, not Warsong/Langrisser 1

Yes, in december.

Word of warning though, playing this may be like looking in a crystal ball for the future of the FE series if they keep hiring eroge artists to design the characters

Is it now? This is first I heard of that. Interesting all the same.

But even Urushihara, the artist who did the art for Langrisser 1-5 is leagues better than the current art for the series.

Langrisser Reincarnation: Bad art is bad, no two ways about it

I've seen worse.....or have I? Eh, I'm much more interested in the gameplay itself. Know of anywhere I can read about it in English?

I think this game has a good chance of coming to the US via Atlus

the way John Hardin (press manager of Atlus) talked about it hints that it's probably coming

That's because that's a different artist. And yes, it's terrible to put it nicely.

Also Jessica is the avatar of Lushiris, the goddess of the Langrisser universe.

The way John Hardin talkied about it hints that there is absolutely no guarantee of it coming.

still, Atlus has not said anything about their 2016 release schedule

Where did you hear that? I never heard anything about localization: I sure hope we do get one.

Anyhow, regarding the art I definitively dislike the large amount of lolis (especially the ones on the Chaos side) and I did prefer Satoshi Urushiara's artwork from the previous games, but I still like the new art for some of the characters personally.

I was trying to find the beginning of a guide or some such, and the only thing I found are comments and some reviews. It's not sounding positive at all. Amazon.jp reviews in particular are notoriously insane in general, but their content does raise some legitimate concerns about the game's quality. My copy is on the way so I'll make sure to inform you guys of everything I can once I receive it and play it some.

*CoughLangrisser 4 Jessica the best*Cough.

Interesting, I was going to ask if you found the intro questionnaire, would you be willing to translate it or some such? Assuming a translated version of it doesn't already exist by the time you do find one.

I've seen worse.....or have I?

I've concluded that I haven't seen worse costume designs.

I literally can't tell if this character is going to battle... or the beach. Actually, she's most likely headed to a gaming convention with an outfit like that. And to think, some people complained about this for Fire Emblem Fates...

*glances at own avatar* Well... I kind of like it..? I do understand why other people's opinion would not match mine though!

Anyway, I did get my copy of the game! I didn't get to play it yet though. I can confirm that the music CDs that came with the collector edition are pretty good though!

Whatever happened to the Langrisser/Growlanser artist who produced stuff like this:

I gotta say the old-school anime look is really neat, even though the dude is apparently also involved in doing softcore porn.

I prefer this drawing style compared to the one for Rebirth. I dunno why, since they are both stupidly half-naked as hell.

Maybe because I remember fondly of anime such as Slayer, Lodos and the like, or maybe because the body are more... modest ?

Meh. Who knows. *shrug*

... I gag at the loli in page 1. :/

I wonder how Rebirth will be though, I really, really enjoyed Der Langrisser.
