Jotari
We see a lot of people complaining and praising stuff in the series on these forums. So out of curiosity, I want people to list the single thing they really liked and disliked about every game in the series. And for the sake of diversity try not to list the same thing twice. So if you liked branching promotions in one game don't list them as your like in another game. I'll go first. Holy War *Like: Favorite story in the series thus far. *Dislike: Weapon balance. We're they even aware of balance as a concept? -_- Thracia 776 * Like: Con as a growth rate. * Dislike: Chapter 24x Sealed Sword * Like: Zephiel's theme/battle animation * Dislike: Support grinding. Blazing Blade * Like: Loads of chapters * Dislike:The fact that Lyn doesn't get Murgleis Sacred Stones *Like: Branching classes. *Dislike: Not getting to play both Erikia and Ephraim's route on a single playthrough. Path of Radiance *Like: Equippable skills *Dislike: Not getting skills back when unequipping them. Radiant Dawn * Multiple armies * Yune stealing Micaiah's screen time. Shadow Dragon * Like: Ballisticians * Dislike: Killing your army for gaidens. New Mystery * Like: Revisiting old locations, like Chapter 7. * Dislike: Revisiting exactly the same old location, like Chapter 8. Awakening * Like: Min maxing * Dislike: Writing. Also please try to be careful with Fates spoilers. A lot of us still haven't played it yet. Edited February 3, 2016 by Jotari

Alex95
I originally thought you meant EVERY game I played. We would've been here a while... Anyway Blazing Sword Like: The characters. Great set up of them. Sain's probably my favorite, though. Dislike: Leveling up. Can never cap anything... Sacred Stones Like: Ephraim. I can relate to him fairly well. Dislike: Eirika. As a character, she's fine, but as a unit, she kinda sucks (for me anyway). At least she's cute XD Path of Radiance Like, no, LOVE the story! Definitely one of the strongest in the series. Dislike: I never understood what the biorhythm thing is...Well, I mean I understand it, but it never effected anything for me. Awakening Like: Story's not strong, but I like how it flows. Also, Owain. Dislike: Sultry characters like Tharja and Aversa just turn me off. I try to not use them, but still want to level everyone up as best I can, so........ I'm not counting emulators. I haven't played much of the ones I did, anyway. Edited February 3, 2016 by Power Master

Path of Radiance *Like: Equippable skills *Dislike: Never liked the story enough to finish it, or inspired me to play RD Shadow Dragon * Like: idk, maybe some of the animations? * Dislike: The difficulty. New Mystery * Like: Revisiting old locations, like Chapter 7. * Dislike: None, really. Awakening * Like: Min maxing * Dislike: Writing. RadiantDawnLord
Sacred Stones: Pros- Branched Classes, Traversable map, Able to be played after the storyline Cons- Lack of real challenges even in Hard mode Shadow Dragon: Pros- Epic Storyline, Nice graphics, Reclassing Cons- Unable to be played after the storyline, Having your companions to be killed just to go to gaiden chapters is just ridiculous
Thor Odinson
FE4 Liked: Characters (Ayra is my #1 FE character of all time, for reference). For the amount of dialogue it had compare to modern FEs, the characters that stood out stood out really well. The supplement material really helps, too. Disliked: Extreme mount dominance. 3 movement difference + big maps + roads having a multiplier gives mounts a much bigger advantage than most other FEs, where they're already advantageous to begin with. FE5 Liked: Capture is my favorite mechanic, abused the fuck out of it, was great 10/10 would do again Disliked: Staff misses, especially at hit rates capping at 99 FE6 Liked: FE6HM enemies aren't entirely scrubs. Disliked: The portrait quality is awful--granted it's their first time with the style so I can't judge too much but a lot of the sprite quality are like, the spriting community's bane of existence FE7 Liked: Rescue. I'm aware that it's also present in most others, but since I'm only doing one thing I like at a time and I use the airforce quite liberally here--often have 3-4 fliers fielded at a time, I'll mention it here. Pulling off a sweet rescue drop chain makes me feel good. Disliked: Female mounted rescue formula-also present in all the GBA but I might as well go for it here too FE8 Liked: Seth Disliked: I did a HM Seth solo with Eirika rescued 75% of the time the enemies are fucking scrubs I don't even have my full skl and spd and they're still worthless, git gud enemies FE9Liked: Writing quality Disliked: Even with animation turned off, it takes too long. No way to properly turbo on dolphin hurts. FE10 Liked: Faction-changing is a cool concept Disliked: No custom support convos in a game with a working support system, I like reading them FE11Liked: Reclass--I abused this almost as much as rescue, full team of Paladins feels great Disliked: H5 earlygame is really slow and consists of Jagen praying for low percentage hits on bosses with axes and enemies don't die fast enough FE12Liked: Lunatic unit placement is really-well done. Definitely the Lunatic mode I had to think the most in. Disliked: Genderlock classes. While it's always been in the series, this is the one where I feel it the hardest (and also in 13 with Galeforce domination) because after Hard Mode males get access to about twice the number of classes including some pretty sweet ones like Horseman and Berserker. Minerva would loved to have access to Berserker for a lategame axe class with actual speed, but no. FE13Liked: Skip enemy phase and general actions perfected. Yeah I know it's in 11 and 12 but I think they got the system down really well in Awakening. Maybe it was just because the DS Emu is slow at the time I played 12, but it still felt annoying to control then. 13 since I have it on the actual system felt good to control. The UI is nice and smooth. Disliked: The shift in art direction to design directly from class designs in a majority of cases. Part of it is because the increased complexity of designs (which I do like, I like bling), but that also makes overly similar designs stick out just that much more. Older games had simpler base designs for armored classes which allowed for a smaller amount of customization to have a larger proportional effect on the designs, and for the units who don't wear only a little amount of armor at all, there's a lot of of customizability there (of course, it wasn't perfect, I gripe about fighter design all the time). I think designing from the class isn't necessarily bad, but I feel that each playable character should have a higher degree of customizations on average than what's in 13 and 14. Like, more designs that deviate significantly enough from the class base, such as Fred, would be nice. Because FE has such a large cast, giving each character a more unique design, while keeping to a consistent theme, helps make each stand out more. Magical Glace
Of what I've played to completion: Binding Blade: Liked: SO MANY THINGS. If I had to pick one... Wolt for characters... and Chapter 22: The Neverending Dream for gameplay stuff. Disliked: Gaiden requirements can be annoying, and Roy promotes waaaaaaaaay too late. Like seriously. Who at IS thought that was even a good idea. Blazing Blade: Liked: Story, maps... Disliked: Nils can't support, legendary weapons not from FE6 just kinda exist, Chapter 19xx unlock requisites is literally among the stupidest things in the series, LYN NORMAL IS FORCED ON FIRST RUNS Sacred Stones: Liked: Lagdau (or however it's spelled) Ruins, very fun if easy game. Also Ewan. Disliked: Inability to return to Map after saving preparations. Path of Radiance: Liked: ROLF, some maps were fun. Disliked: Ike, soundtrack was boring for most of it, other maps were rather boring too, split inventory. Radiant Dawn: Liked: Micaiah's chapters, Edward magikarp-training, the indoor maps Disliked: Ike taking a plot that rightfully belonged to Micaiah. Shadow Dragon: Liked: Simple, easy to understand Disliked: removal of distinct magic types, gaiden requirements (kill off my soldiers? Lolwat?), prologue is Normal mode only. Awakening: Liked: It's okay at face value, and there are some amusing bits, like meeting Henry. Disliked: Plot, most first gen characters, Einherjar can't support, overly hyped, difficulty isn't balanced at all (jump from hard to loony is waaaaaaaaaaay too big)
X-Naut
FE4: Like the two generation system. Dislike the RNG, especially in the arena. FE5: Like capturing. Dislike the preparations menu. FE6: Like the variety in setting. Dislike most of the Gaiden gimmicks. FE7: Like the premise of multiple Lords' stories. Dislike how it works in practice. FE8: Like the multiple promotion branches. Dislike being choked down by conveyor belt reinforcements. FE11: Like the idea of reclassing to improve replayability. Dislike the sluggish level curve. FE12: Like the difficulty scaling. Dislike the rigidity of the game on said higher difficulties. Edited February 4, 2016 by X-Naut
Anacybele
Disliked: Ike taking a plot that rightfully belonged to Micaiah. Actually, Yune took it, not Ike. Valid point though, I didn't like Micaiah being thrown out of the spotlight either. It just made her worse than she already was for me. Knight
Counting only ones I've played enough of to form an opinion FE4: Great story and music, but weird balance and funny graphics at parts FE7: Fun chapters with many routes and sidequests, but the story has some noticeable holes and lazy moments FE8: Really cool characters and an overall improvement on the last two games, eeeexcept it's too short and has no sidequests FE9: Decent plot with well-developed characters and fun late-game chapters, but really slow early game chapters FE10: The greatest compilation of mechanics compiled into one game (minus branching promotes and sidequests), but late-game story and chapters are dull FE11: I can't really say that anything's criminally wrong about the gameplay except a lot of useless late-game units and dumb sidequest reqs, but the characters in this game could use improvement in development FE13: Nice graphics, music and interfacing, occasional fun moments but a really boring plot Edited February 3, 2016 by Knight
Star and Moon
Blazing Sword Liked - Overall was fun, and had some cool artwork. Disliked - The save system. How many times have I watched Matthew die, thinking that if I keep reloading the save eventually Guy will miss and not murder him? Also the fact that I could not recruit Guy because he kept killing Matthew and eventually I gave up resetting. Path of Radiance Liked - EXP distribution at base, plus great story. Disliked - Biorhythm, and gameplay had a tendency to drag. Shadow Dragon Liked - Challenging gameplay (helped me be actually good at strategy), and an interesting story with good writing. Disliked - Gameplay could drag at points, plus Marth had terrible growth. Awakening Liked - Fun characters and casual gameplay. (I could relax while playing this game, not so much with the other FE games.) Disliked - A little too easy at times and also TIME TRAVEL WHY. epilepsyduck
Dark Dragon and Sword of Light: Like: Started the series! Dislike: Basically unplayable! Gaiden: Like: The only acceptable world map in the franchise. Dislike: Eyeballs that clone themselves and teleporting witches. Mystery of the Emblem: Like: Dragonstone mechanics make manaketes not wildly impractical. Dislike: Not a fighter to be found in all of Book 2. Genealogy of the Holy War: Like: Big maps with a lot of events going on. Dislike: Someone had a sword fetish and REALLY hated fire magic. Thracia 776: Like: The last game in which status staves were ever useful. Dislike: Cyas can go fuck himself. Binding Blade: Like: The queen of all Mercenaries and Heroes, Echidna. Dislike: The most pathetic final boss in video game history. Blazing Sword: Like: Beautiful sunflower Lucius and problematic fave Serra. Dislike: The proto-Avatar existing pointlessly to have no point. Sacred Stones: Like: You fight boats in one chapter. Dislike: Brought back the eyeballs and gave me crippling flashbacks to Gaiden. Path of Radiance: Like: Someone cared about the game's story and characters more than any other game in the series. Dislike: Design decisions seem to be made by randomly throwing darts at a list of ideas. Radiant Dawn: Like: Less of a chaotic mess of gameplay ideas than PoR. Dislike: Nearly tanked the franchise. Shadow Dragon: Like: Has units with names like "Wymp" and "Auffle". Dislike: Mass sacrifice to access the side chapters is literally the worst idea anyone's ever had. New Mystery of the Emblem: Like: Nonsensically named the joke sword "Obtuse Sword". Dislike: The worst Avatar of the series, and that's saying something. Awakening: Like: Rescued the franchise from certain death. Dislike: Difficulty curve is basically a straight line. Fates: Like: Making bows not an utterly lunatic waste of time. Dislike: Having to play as a guy if I don't want to see the main character's thighs and ass the whole game. Honorable Mentions: Tear Ring Saga: Like: Cool archer lord who's better than the actual main character. Dislike: Creepy dancer subplot and MORE ENEMIES THAT CLONE THEMSELVES OH JOY! Berwick Saga: Like: The most unique and interesting game on this list. Dislike: Spent almost as much time learning what the millions of menus mean and do as I did actually playing it. Rapier
FE4 - Pros: The story - Cons: Foot units having horrible availability due to the size of maps. FE5 - Pros: Scrolls - Cons: I could say "fake difficulty", but it'd include a lot of things, so... I pick that one mechanic that randomly gives units an extra move, including enemies. FE6 - Pros: The gameplay - Cons: The ost. I hate the Pheraean map theme and the battle music. This is even worse than the low axe hitrate. FE7 - Pros: The maps. They're fun, challenging and creative. - Cons: Lyn's mode. I've noticed how much of a pain it is when I went through it again. FE8 - Pros: The ost. - Cons: The characters, except maybe Lyon. FE9 - Pros: The writting, although the story isn't much, makes the world seem more lively and the characters' hardships worth of caring about. - Cons: Losing skills after taking them off. FE10 - Pros: Skills shenanigans. - Cons: The availability of characters. FE11 - Pros: Makes the first game of the series more tolerable... Reclassing - Cons: ... But it still sucks in every area imaginable The characters are bland and wooden, probably the worst of the series. FE12 - Pros: The difficulty system is perfect for newcomers, average players and pro players alike. I actually miss such a difficulty system. - Cons: I don't know, so... well, it's ugly? FE13 - Pros: Merging everything that worked in the series in a great mix (pairings, eugenics simulator, skills, reclassing) - Cons: The writting. Midori Mage
Let's see... FE4: Like: The story. Dislike: How huge the maps are and how mount-biased it is. FE6: Like: Lilina <3. Dislike: Roy as a unit, and the support grinding. FE7: Like: The characters (especially Nino). Dislike: Lyn's relevance after her mode, support grinding again, and how you have to do Lyn's Mode first. FE8: Like: Both story and characters (for the most part) Dislike: How short it was, support grinding once more, and how Eirika Ch. 18 can be summed up as: L'Arachel: Hoe, don't try to save Leon. Eirika: (ignores best girl and tries to save Leon by giving him the Sacred Stone) The Player and the Party: GOD DAMMIT EIRKIA! FE9: Like: Story, characters, and how characters (a la Jill) develop without the need for support convos. Dislike: How long the animartions are. FE10: The gameplay so much and Part 2 as a whole. Dislike: How Micky was written, how Part 2 could pretty much be taken out and we would barely miss a thing, and how Ike and Yune shoved Micky into the sidelines for Part 4. FE13: Like: 10-ish of the characters, and the gameplay when you couldn't just break it in half with certain units and skills. Dislike: The Valm Arc as a whole, hell, the story in general. Nobody
FE4: Good: Amazing lore aand Story. I feel really involved with the setting while playing it. Bad: Using foot units is even harder than usual FE6: Good: Wendy Brought the GBA rescue mechanic. Bad: Messed up hit rates haha FE7 Good: AMAZING maps. It's a game that I can just pick and beat 10 chapters in a single day because they're all so fantastic. Well, most of them... Which leads us to: Bad: GENESIS (on HHM, don't really know about other difficulties). Probably one of the worst maps in the series. Thankfully it's skippable, otherwise it would hit my almost absolute love for this game. FE7 might be my favorite game ever but I also have to point a second fault, since IMO those are the only 2 notable flaws it has: having to beat LNM, ENM AND HNM before being able to play HHM, which is for me the actual fantastic game. FE8 Good: I love how it handled route splits. Eirika's maps being a bit on the easy side and Ephraim's being more "epic" was a cool touch that added replay value. Bad: World Map. I hate that sort of stuff on FE games. I feel like it removes a bit of immersion and might be one the reasons I don't replay this game as nearly often as FE7. FE9 Good: This is a game that I always remember being a bit meh but then I play it and think "wow this game is so much better than I remember". So yeah, it's a really fun game that I rarely want to replay but whenever I do, always ends up being better than I expect. Bad: IT'S SO FUCKING SLOW uuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuugh Oh yeah, maniac not being in the localization as well. WTF IS? FE10 Good: Part one HM. I really love the challenge it brings without being frustrating. It's really the only part of the game I find fun. Bad: Part two. Narratively it's fun and well written, but damn if those chapters aren't the biggest borefest in fire emblem's history. Geoffrey's Charge just makes me want to throw this game in a garbage bin and then set it on fire. FE11 Good: Really, really fun. It's (IMO obviously considering what the general opinion on it is lol) simple without lacking. The chapters are like REALLY well made. Bad: Many unusable units. FE12 Good: This game is really challenging. Probably the hardest Fire Emblem game and I love to watch LTCs of its H3 and H4 difficulties. Bad: Sadly, I just can not have fun playing it. It's probably the only fire emblem game other than FE10's part two that I feel like doing a chore while playing =(. Also, too reliant on growths. FE13 Good: It's just SO fast. Whenever I'm playing FE9 I think "why can't this game's engine be as fast as awakening's" Bad: There's no challenging at all in it, bar Lunatic+. Okay, I only realized it after playing the game for a long (really long) time, but now I just can't play it without thinking "why don't I just pair the MU with someone that gives DEF, throw him in the middle of the map and watch the game beat itself?" eclipse
FE4 Like: A competent lord (well, battle-wise) Dislike: Uhhh. . .let's go with giant maps that take way too long to traverse FE6 Like: The fact that two of my favorite guys, Shin and Zeiss, could support Dislike: Chapter 16x was somehow worse than Chapter 16 FE7 Like: Anyone and everyone is usable to some degree (yes, even Wallace) Dislike: Jaffar kicking the bucket on turn 2 EP in Battle Before Dawn on HHM FE8 Like: Ephraim!Lyon, for sounding like a competent villain Dislike: Eirika!Lyon, for sounding like a wimpy guy (I know it's the entire sympathy angle, but it just doesn't work out in my mind) FE9 Like: The Daein chapters, which have some amazing scenes Dislike: How Maniac Mode went poof FE10 Like: Somehow manages to expand on what's happening in multiple countries, and ties it together Dislike: . . .but didn't have enough time to do so properly, which is why Crimea felt rushed and Daein felt out-of-place FE11 Like: Focuses on Marth's journey, while giving side characters who have some personality, but not so much that I feel like my creativity is being restricted Dislike: The crazy jump in difficulty on Chapter 24 FE12 Like: OH MY GOSH, EVERYONE IS INCLUDED! Dislike: The reinforcement patterns on Chapter 12 and 19. FE13 Like: Lots of little things for veteran players Dislike: Too much of the character's true personality is hidden behind supports and DLC Still hyped for Fates, but a bit annoyed by some of the name changes.
