Alright, finally, continuing with Another Eden's main story.

I'm seeing mentions the new area is Baten Kaitos inspired. I mean, that's also Masato Kato, and after the totally-a-Xenogears-reference from the previous one... yeah, I can believe them, heh.

In an EO mood now I wasted plenty of time today carefully planning out three Nexus teams, and it's halfway through the year, so why not the avi change? Chose male Masurao portrait 2 simply b/c I like it (used it as a Blade Dancer on EOV Run 3), something about the relaxed expression, not sure whether it's evidence of cockiness, psychosis, calm underlaid with cold calculation, or simply an unserious warrior. I might've used it once before on SF? I don't remember.😅

More games should do this:

Go a step further and allow games to show the text in one language with the same text in different language right beside it though maybe smaller. Could, when paired with a serious interest in learning another language and normal language-learning software/classes, possibly be helpful in facilitating that.

B/c floating islands? -Though that was also a thing in CT, if not for very long.

I'll admit I don't remember much about BK (from all the talk that has happened here, pft) to say for sure. There's probably more to it, but I wouldn't be able to tell myself.

This sounds interesting, if not quite complex to design. XD

I can't help but admit that part of me wished not to pay another $60 for a game I already own, so that's part of it! Not so pure motives, I know.

Hey that looks pretty cool! I think maybe you should cut off the road a bit lower, it looks like it goes inside the church in the background, but still, solid stuff.

Yeah I need to work on the widenings and whatnot. It was an attempt to recreate this picture

Took out the 4th Labyrinth boss in 7 turns on the second try, the optional Sand Leviathan in 5 turns on the first attempt. And people say EO is hard?🥱

-Well, okay, EOIV is on the easier side of the franchise, but still. And it wouldn't have been possible without my perfectly synergistic team, a thing of beauty that be.😄

What, you don't get communion through a drive-through window? Just remember that the window for receiving blessings is not the same as the one for giving donations. The mic & speaker for confessions is a left turn once you're inside, turn right for the prayer parking lot (with EV charging stations).🚗

Ah, silly me. So that's why they kept asking me for money.

Well, I finally tried out the remastered version of FF 8 and I only lasted for around 80 minutes, lmao. Granted, it looks good for what it is, but this is genuinely THE first game where I got an headache solely from the graphics. But the combat is kind of unusual, compared to, well, everything else; but I'm not really in the habit of regularly stealing shit from people, so I guess thist'll be something that'll be gathering dust.

Just grind using Triple Triad and Card mod, then. Takes little time/effort provided you can understand the simple rules to begin with.

Etrian-Odyssey-IV-06-06-24-22-18-49-634.

There, polished off EOIV, again. Penultimate boss took 5 turns, the final boss took only 9. Link team strong, yet fun.😄 So much different from my first playthrough so long ago (I recall struggling against the final boss back then), when I was but an Etrian Odyssey newbie.

I won't do the postgame though, I went through that once before, and I don't think my party is suited for the strongest two superbosses. I'd rather move on and give Nexus another try (emulated like IV, since while I own the game, the 3DS is a fragile old no-longer-produced system now). ...Although I want to get back to SRWW first, then once that is done, I'll see about juggling XC3 and Nexus beside each other. The former requiring narrative immersion from me and the latter being pure gameplay goodness means they won't overlap.

Though even getting lost in the Labyrinth of the World Tree can't nullify the existential pangs from overhearing certain conversations IRL.

But i think paper mario fans will go full hunt the Shrimp on me when i say i mostly prefee TOK? XD

The acronym keeps making me think Zelda, despite the missing second "t".

Arma won't at least.😛 (So far, Japanese sales of TTYD Remake are about the same as TOK I'm told, TTYD lagging just slightly behind.)

And glad you enjoyed it!

Final boss was quite tough tho, and fun!

(Spoiler tagged just incase, altough i am sure everyone and their mom knows the final boss of TTYD)

I will say, just like Origami King, some stuff does hold it back from being truly "Great".

Origami King had the lack of incentive to battle and TOADS as the major sticking negative points

Thousand year door has awful level/dungeon design (those Hallways just don't do it for me - especially compared to Origami King where Level and dungeon Design was absolute peak) and Backtracking (and i heard they actually improved that. If that was the improvement, i don't wanna imagine the original)

I will hold both games in similar regards, Origami King just edges out a bit due to a much stronger music selection, and much more fun boss battles (not that TTYD was bad at either, TOK was just better imo).

A game that can combine the strengths of both can be absolute peak honestly.

*Sees 30 HP at the final boss*

I know nowadays that BP > other stats in PM, but still! In all my old Paper Mario runs, I usually got HP to like 50 fairly quickly.😆 In the original Paper Mario, where HP caps at 50, I hit it by like Chapter 3 all the time and left FP totally neglected.

Professor Frankly is a truly menacing opponent when enraged.

Perhaps the result of being "2D"? Or maybe because hallways was what the first PM mostly did (maybe an N64 limitation?)? IDK. Stopped playing PM after Sticker Star, so I wouldn't know anything about OK.

And yeah, I've heard the backtracking complaint before, in retrospect, I never truly felt the annoyance of it playing the game okay, maybe with General White. Chapters 4 (yay backing tracking with Hyper enemies!), 5, and 7 being the offenders. The first Paper Mario I don't think was as backtracky, outside of Chapter 4 there I think. -Though the first PM isn't as developed combat-wise.

I ran with 20 HP until like the end of the final dungeon, then removed some badges that were more for multiple enemies/peekaboo, and put in 2 HP badges XD

BP just offer way too much ultility compared to HP and stuff.

Here's what i had equipped at the end with 66 BP:

Charge

Charge P

Defend Plus

Feeling fine

First Attack

Flower Saver

Flower Saver P

2 x FP Plus

2 x HP Plus

P Up, D Down P

Piercing Blow

2 x Power Plus

2 x Power Plus P

Power Smash

Quick Change

Usually instead of the 2 x HP Plus i had Peekabo, Multibounce, Quake Hammer, etc, stuff that helps me clear mobs/specific enemies fast. But decided against the final bosses to get those 10 Extra HP, and good thing i did, i barely survived the battle and i used like half my inventory xD. These freaking healing hands. But Yoshkid, Vivian and Koopster saved my hide there lol

But yeah i was living the dangerous life lol

And no Power Pounce because i couldn't ever get more than 4 lol

yeah but that was 20something years ago. And that's why i am not a fan of super faithful remakes tbh, they don't remove the faults of the game, they don't even try.

One other big complaint i have is how the quests are handled...why the fuck can you only accept one at a time?? And why was the quest board only in Rogueport? This was really really bad.

Also lol 30 FPS.

Airborn enemies are not that common, and i'd rather just Multibounce them

There's actually a hardcore build called "Danger Mario" that's been spoken of online for years. It works as follows:

  • There's a guy named Chet Rippo who can shift level-ups from one stat to another. He can even drop HP from its base value of 10 to the bare-minimum of 5. Which puts Mario permanently in Danger status.
  • The Pianta casino allows you to buy infinite Power Rush badges (the token cost I see was tripled in the Switch version), which increase Mario's attack by 2 when in Danger, for a mere 1 BP each.
  • Do you see what you do here?😛 Load up on Power Rush, equip whatever Badges give you the attacks you need to 1-turn murder everything. And maybe Quick Change so Mario's partners can maybe tank whenever you absolutely need it. -Just be prepared to bear with the constant "Danger!" beeping.

Thank goodness this isn't Super Mario RPG, and that you aren't a completionist. Since there, you need to perform 100 consecutive bounces with Super Jump to obtain one piece of equipment.💯

Also, the Mario & Luigi starting with Bowser's Inside Story began having can't-stop-don't-stop-let-your-fingers-fall-off minigame challenges designed around M's&L's special attacks which had many rewards tucked away behind them.🤪

True... but on the other hand... it's stylish animation! That's something!
