Well, best way is when you can corner yourself in a good blind spot, with Dispender and Sentry Gun together in a way not even a Spy can backstab you. My record with the same Sentry Gun was a whoever-minutes-long defense on Upward where we were down to the last Control Point... but managed to hold the line! You can hold off even a Demoman's blinding throwing bombs to check for those kind of things in time to keep fixing it... unless they crit. Or there's a zerg rush, but then it's lost anyway.
