I started Rune Factory 5 this morning, as the opening trailer unfolded (I do quite like it!), my inner thoughts were devouring away at me (they had suddenly surged in what was no more than the half-hour beforehand). Once it got to the title screen, I was telling myself stuff along the lines of "You simply can't concentrate at all like this! Quit the game before you load your save!". A minute or three of struggling with indecision, I chose not to abort mission, which seems to have been the correct answer. RF5 was able to more or less stabilize my mind for the duration of the play session as it went on, and its repression of the negative is still lingering.

...Which reminds me I still haven't issued any reminder to family that I want a psyche. The holidays are well and truly over with today being Epiphany, but I haven't said a word. I feel like asking so soon after requesting RF5 would be improper. Yet it would "improper" on the grounds that materialism can suffice in place of more existential treatment, which sure is a "well yes, but actually no" argument. ...And I gently slipped in a topical mention of the matter just after I finished typing the first of the two light history lessons directly below.😐

Turkey also wasn't unusual from what I've seen of the early-mid 20th century. Furthermore, despite the enormous and inhuman costs, socialism had shown itself capable in the USSR of -in select ways- rapidly advancing economic development and the standards of living in underdeveloped places. (Course the USSR itself plateaued socio-economically sometime in the 60s and never truly took off again IIRC, Soviet-styled socialism could only raise things so high.)

I wouldn't entirely (they sure deserve some blame) excuse these overlong founding prezs/PMs for not being more democratic, since they were in countries without a history, tradition, and experience of democracy. Countries that were also socio-economically underdeveloped. For every leader that comes after them however, the "excuse" grows thinner and thinner, there is little reason that most countries in the world today can't be functioning democracies the short-term "need" for quasi-democracy is long over.

Also a lack of a division of labor in Neolithic society. Hunter-gatherers, everyone hunts, or gathers. Everyone or everyone of a specific gender at least also does stuff like basket-weaving and hut-building. Nothing is so complicated or demanding as to require specialized knowledge and there is enough time for someone to do it all. Maybe you toss in a shaman or medicine-person, but even that might not be a full-time job.

With the rise of human civilization, the diversity of jobs grows exponentially, diversity because the rising standards of civilization demand it, and because we want it. Job diversity ^ means specialization also goes ^. Nobody has the brainpower nor time to do everything and do it well. And so it is we ended up having to specialize farming, crafting, selling, protecting, and governing to name five basic fields.

I think it was brought up later, but I'm pretty sure this came about in response to 3H fans defending its shitty design with "just use the pulse mate." People are now worried that IntSys themselves will use the turnwheel as a cheap excuse to not bother with difficulty design again, instead just making it more and more shitty so as to waste the player's turnwheel uses.

Still, you make a fair point. It really is like the casual discussion - and Fates had casual in steroids and that didn't stop it from being one of the most challenging FEs in the higher difficulties. Only Birthright is arguable, and as someone who has done the route Ryomaless, I can tell you the problem is Ryoma and Ryoma alone. You bench Ryoma and the game becomes all right, save for a couple of oddly easier chapters - heck, it actually spikes at the end. I had to skip Garon because I legit couldn't do that map normally lol, my units couldn't withstand the onslaught.

Ultimately, I do think there's a bit of truth to the complaints. These mechanics can be used as an excuse for lazy and/or bad design. But in the end, it depends on how willing the devs are to put an effort into delivering a good gameplay experience. In Houses, it was plain to see that they couldn't care less for the actual FE part of the FE game. Here... we will see, but it definitely looks like they care, this time.

Oh no, the fact that character customization only applies to the Somniel has dealt a huge blow to my interest on the whole thing. I honestly doubt I will bother with it at all at this point.

Not to mention that Vandaddysuit is his default Somniel attire lol, I am never giving him anything else

And that's my hope atm. If Engage can be "Fates 2", then they are free to add as much casual stuff as they want aslong as they don't design the game around it
