I love his death quote. In a series full of dramatic death lines, you'd expect that this absolute dickwad, lover of the sound of his own voice as he is, would drop some kind of witty remark. But no, he just shrieks in panic and drops. Delicious.

I think Armagon mixed her up with Riko from the new anime. Names off by one vowel and all that.

Like Shrimpers said, this guy's probably referring to that one, very much adult man.

...Not that Pokemon fans being into kids would be anything new, mind. The amount of porn the series' cast of 13-to-15 year olds has is astounding.

I've long reached the point where I'm like, "Screw the 'one will die long before the other' issue. Anything I write that may veer in that direction... BAM, will fix that particular problem."

... but not overboard like what Blazing Blade does with EliwoodxNinian... I don't think I can even call that fixing the problem to begin with...

Played more Memories of Celceta...

Spoiler

Cleared both the forest village and fishing village. I take it you can complete them in whichever order you want? I’ve done most of the quests available, but skipped the Gogol Monkey King one, that is tyrannically strong. I haven’t been told where to go next.

Complaints of boss design were mentioned before as one of Celceta’s faults… I didn’t see it with the Forest Borrow midboss, but the one at the end of the dungeon was a bit… eh?. The water temple midboss died realllllly fast, too fast. The water temple boss however, the first phase felt like a crude Zelda boss fight, it was quick but imprecise. Second phase, once I got it stunned, I was able to kill it with one Extra skill and spamming attacks (I’m on Normal difficulty), but getting its stun bar all the way filled took excessively long, it was invulnerable too much of the time.

Moving on to story, has a trace of Seven so far Although the local tribes being completely uncontacted feels unrealistic in this situation. Celceta is a remake of an older game however, so I acknowledge it might be simplistic and dated.

…Ozma might be the first Ys character I’m attracted to.😆 NGL, when the opening trailer played, the brief moment of someone with a midriff standing next to what I thought was a dragon registered in my brain. Since they were facing away from the camera though, I couldn’t determine their gender and was left to pray “Please be a guy!” as I awaited them to show up. When I saw Ozma I realized it was they. I assumed he’d join, but a dash of doubt preparing for disappointment lingered in my brain. Shirtless, looks possibly antisocial/angry/stoic in visage but is actually a total sweetheart with no thorns at all, that seems to be my kind of anime hunk.😘 His spearplay is unexpectedly slow, the most sluggish Pierce character in the Seven-Nox game quartet, I’d rather use Karna.

Oh yes, Karna exists.😅 Not a bad first impression, nothing incredible either, she’s inoffensive. I tasted notes of Feral Hawk from someone during my early time with her. Albeit they sure expressed themselves differently from the Monstrum avis. Fast, long-range throwing daggers makes Karna seem like the safest character to play as.

(To back up for a moment to Ozma, the E-VULH bad guy did having something of a point. Animal husbandry, no matter "humane", does involve some degree of breaking an animal's independence/will or physical form. I'm not preaching when I say this, I ate cheeseburgers earlier today. We just have to live with the fact that the domestication of animals a selfish act of our species, even if many of us don't like to actively acknowledge it like the slaughter of the cows that became the aforementioned cheeseburgers.)

Slash Number-Two and Strike Numero-Dos aren’t accounted for yet, I presume for gender balance they’re both female. Hopefully the cast of Memories of Celceta is better than Seven’s, I can hardly remember their names, they were sorta bland. However, Seven’s cast (minus Dogi, a supporting actor through and through, and Adol- protagonist importance) did have “collective importance”, with the rest being Altagoan tribe representatives. Find & replace “Dogi” with “Duren”, and the same so far is shaping up with Celceta. That might bode ill, but maybe they'll be somewhat stronger this time? I'll have to see.

In contrast to VII, Ys VIII had very little “collective importance” for its playable crew. Hummel probably was the least important, with the other Pierce and both Strikes somewhere above him, yet they were all very "deletable and you wouldn't need to fundamentally write the story" if you ask me (doesn’t mean they were bad characters, simply cosmically insignificant). Adol ofc had protagonist-importance. With Ys VIII, the narrative belonged to one, descending from a tree bough on fog-laden cusp of dawn morning as the orchestra carries their evocative aria, their feet touching the gentle tide washing upon the sandy shore, the point where air, land, and sea meet. The only character to ever grace the title of a Ys- Dana. And that worked out well for her!😄 Regardless of what may be said for everyone else. Nox, I feel like the distribution of importance is at its most even there, with perhaps the best playable crew developmentally (though Aprilis is shoddy).

And before I forget- field abilities. They seem quite rudimentary in this game. While I felt they were partly underutilized in combat, I'm more appreciative of the Gifts of Monstrum Nox now.

And now back to Celceta I now go.🕳️ Best to keep myself playing, for fear I'll otherwise play nothing at all.

They don't need to suffer if you just chimerically fuse them into you. You'll never be apart if you become literally one.😄

I don't think that's the case at all, however you might like them more.

Some of the characters in Celceta so are better if you played older games due to connections.

I'll admit, there is some kind of dark relish of wanting to see it happen... and/or make it happen yourself when writing. Not necessarily suffer, but more like they going through extraordinary situations. More so for characters that are your favorites... specially if they are your favorites...

I honestly just headcanon Ninian's somewhere in Arcadia because the whole "the air is different" thing doesn't make any sense to me when there are still Manaketes living there.

Yeah, from the initial segment with her, her daggers seemed too strong for how fast, multi-hit, and ranged they are.

Character development is usually associated with good characters/character writing. Adversity is most often the whetstone of personal growth. Characters who aren't tested -or become so tested they can't realistically be tested anymore- can stagnate, and stagnancy can leave them overplayed and boring if they continue showing up.

"Revealing new facets" is an alternative to new challenges, but how many aspects can any one person have? And how interesting can each new facet be? At a point, a character might simply become overloaded with stuff that you would've been better assigning to someone else.

It's not hard to reconcile. The Arcadia Dragons simply powered through and soon acclimatized, however long it took. And some like Fae, born after the Endless Winter happened. Still, there's enough signs it still left a mark. Since from how the Arcadia Elder speaks, Fae seems to be the only transforming dragon left. The Elder no longer can as he admits, and Sophia doesn't seem to have a dragonstone either.

Meanwhile, Ninian and Nils passed through the gate before the whole thing started, so they never got used to it. Hence it's still deadly to them.

Think of it as missing out on an epidemic and coming back when everybody has herd-immunity but the disease is still around.

I'll admit, while I'm not a fan of explicit suffering in media (Mostly because I'm squeamish to violence) I LOVE when a story shows the lowest of low points for a character and seeing them climb out of it.

I honestly wish more stuff would do that to their protagonists if they can pull it off.

Crippling your characters is also something I wish more media would do, there's no better character development than seeing how the character reacts to being physically disabled.

In these two cases, however, it could be that the Elder is just too old and lacks the necessary magic to transform. Sophia is only half, so she wouldn't be able to, at least not without a Dragonstone (Nergal forced Ninian to transform).

There is also the case of Jahn, who was kept alive by the Tower, which seems to have the same properties as the pyramid in Arcadia. And if we want to go into manga lore, Al doesn't seem to mind.

I mean I know the answer is she died, but it does feel like they went out of their way to explicitly stated why Ninian wouldn't be around but not for any of Eliwood's other potential spouses. Though through math we can confirm she lived for at least five years after the end of the game (epilogue is 15 years after and Roy is 10 in that one).

Not exactly the same but the main protagonist of CrossCode is canonically mute, it is impossible for her to speak beyond a few basic words, none that can form a full sentence. Communicating past that is one of her main struggles.
