Make a Warriors spinoff

Have fun and enjoy submitting your concepts for dream Warriors spinoffs. This is specifically not for Fire Emblem Warriors, which has its own threads. Though I won't consider it to be against the rules - this is an FE forum after all.

Here's some basic guidelines.

Mechanics

It is recommended to use existing spinoffs as a template, unless you have some incredible unique foundation in mind. For example, using Persona 5 Strikers, which has a linear story and creature collecting as a template for Pokemon, Xenoblade, or Golden Sun might prove to be an optimal starting point. From there, provide some ideas for new mechanics to make it your own.

Roster Size

Warriors roster tend to break down as such, for new IPs.

Less than 10 - spinoffs based on the cast of a single game (like Persona 5 Strikers or HW Age of Calamity) or an IP with few viable characters (like Berserk). As with games like Persona 5 Strikers, this may represent a quality over quantity approach with deeper movesets.

10-15 - spinoffs based on relatively niche IPs.

15-20 - spinoffs based on medium or large IPs.

20-30 - large IPs, cofunded by a larger game publisher, with many viable characters. Alternatively, a medium IP inflated by clones.

30+ - roster inflated by clones.

Example concept for Runeterra Warriors

Spoiler

Base game format - Dragon Quest Heroes: The World Trees Woe and the Blight Below

The first Dragon Quest Warriors was an oddity among spinoffs in that it was more of a tower defense game with a subtle lane structure, Warriors elements, and a mana based skill system. I shouldn't have to explain how all of this is perfect for a League of Legends spinoff.

In terms of changed mechanics, the LoL spinoff would ditch the DQH coin summon system in favor of more traditional, Samurai Warriors/FE Warriors style character swapping. It would drop mana costs from combo enders, and keep costs only on the four active skills, which are unique for each character.

Roster

A size of 20 has been selected under the logic that League of Legends is a large, ambitious IP with a huge selection of characters. It is unlikely to be represented by clones, and sequel baiting a spinoff is incredibly likely.

1. Jarvan IV

I'm not a fan of Warriors games, but I do have two ideas for Warriors spinoffs. To save space, I will put them in spoilers:

Hyrule Warriors: Breath of the Wild Prequel:

Spoiler

Description: Essentially, think something along the lines of Age of Calamity, but, unlike Age of Calamity, this actually would be a Breath of the Wild prequel, and it would actually show the events of the Great Calamity. You know; everything that Nintendo kept falsely claiming that Age of Calamity would be.

The gameplay mechanics would not be exactly the same as those of Age of Calamity, thanks to there not being Terrako, but it would be broadly similar.

Roster: The roster would be extremely similar: Link, Impa, the four champions, Sealing Power Zelda, etc. The Future Champions would also be in the roster, as unlockable postgame content; more on that later. There would also be one or two characters available as playable characters that were only mentioned in backstory; potential examples include Link's father (whose moveset would be reflecting that of a skilled Knight of Hyrule) and Kass' Teacher (a Shiekah with a possible musical component to their moveset).

Campaign: The main story campaign would show off and expand upon everything mentioned in Creating a Champion and in the memories and journal entries in Breath of the Wild and its DLC. The first two thirds or so of the game would cover the pre-calamity events, including (but not limited to) the following:

  • Link becoming a knight after destroying a malfunctioning guardian via shield-bashing its laser.
  • The selection of the four champions.
  • Link saving Zelda from the Yiga Clan.
  • Link fighting an entire small army of monsters (including Lynels) by himself and Zelda realizing that the frequency of monster appearances is increasing.

Then the Calamity occurs, and the missions shift dramatically. Missions include the following:

  1. The Champions' Last Stand. These are four missions; one for each champion, that can be tackled in any order. Each one ends on the four champions being defeated by the blights. For the rest of the main campaign, each champion whose last mission is completed disappears from the roster for side missions, but they will be made available again upon completion of the main campaign.
  2. The Fall of Akkala Citadel: this mission is a "defend the base" mission where the enemy forces continuously gain ground; success hinging on the defenses lasting a set length of time. This mission's roster would likely consist of new characters.
  3. Link's Last Stand. This mission has the player play as Link with Zelda accompanying him as an NPC with their own HP. The player must protect Zelda as she flees the incoming horde of corrupted guardians, fighting both enemies ahead and guardians at the rear. Then, upon reaching the last checkpoint, a quick cutscene plays of Link making his stand, and the objective changes to just, "Protect Zelda". The player, as Link, must fight wave upon wave of corrupted guardians; you win if Link runs out of hearts while Zelda still has hearts left.
  4. Escorting Link to the Shrine of Resurrection: In this mission, the available characters consist of Impa and/or new characters.
  5. The End of the First Showdown: This is the final mission of the main campaign. For this one, the roster consists of just Zelda, now armed with her newly-awakened sealing power. Zelda is purposefully overpowered against regular enemies and corrupted guardians, and the first part of the mission consists of marching through the burning ruins of Castle Town and defeating the enemies within it. Then, when Zelda reaches Hyrule Castle, the final battle occurs: a fight throughout the exterior and interior of Hyrule Castle, with Calamity Ganon (in its flying boar head form) as the final boss. Upon defeating it, Zelda then seals it within Hyrule Castle.

The end credits would consist of a montage of Hyrule going from how it was post-calamity to how it is just before Breath of the Wild, and then the screen would fade to black, and the player would hear Zelda's voice say, "Open your eyes. Wake up, Link."

Postgame: One feature of the postgame would be four bonus missions: each one set shortly before Breath of the Wild. In each one, the player plays as one of the future-champions, with the premise of the mission being that they are each separately investigating the reactivation of the divine beasts. Completing each mission unlocks the respective future-champion.

Black Clover Warriors:

Spoiler

Template: I don't know nearly enough about the different Warriors spinoffs to be able to say which one would work best. Which previous Warriors game has a combat system that would best work for a Warriors game where every character except one is a spellcaster?

Roster:

Asta

Yuno

Noelle

Luck

Yami

William Vangeance

Julius

Mereoleona

Feugoleon

Nozel

Mars

Langris

Patry

Licht

Zagred

Gaja

Dante

Vanica

Zenon

Sekke (only if Warriors spinoffs have joke characters)

Xenoblade Chronicles Warriors.

Mechanics: I think the mechanics should reinforce the duality between the two Chronicles games. Xenoblade 2 is defined by switching between blades so their movesets should naturally be highly varied and focused on switching between playstyles. Chronicles 1 doesn't have that switching so to avoid them lagging behind I'd have them be highly specialized and vital for success.

Xenoblade 1 cast
Shulk: Able to massively buff all allies and get visions to show the player what attacks the enemies will use, or what bases to attack. For Mechon based stages he also must be on the field for the army to damage them. Maybe he starts out the weakest in stats before growing out the strongest by far to reference how he goes from ''delicate'' to godlike.
Reyn: The defense specialist with a much higher defense than any single character. Maybe he can also reinforce the defense of bases, draw enemies towards him or absorb damage other characters take.
Dunban: Probably the most conventional character. He'd be fast. Very, very fast
Fiora: The only Xenoblade 1 character that can switch. Namely between her default Mechon mode, her giant armor Mechon and eventually draw power from Meyneth.
Melia: The mage. I'm not sure how it would work.
Sharla: The longest range for both attacks and healing out of any character.
Heropon Riki!: The joke character

Xenoblade 2 cast
Rex: Can switch between Pyra and Mythra to reinforce his attacks. Pyra grants fire based attack and more raw power, while Mythra grants light based powers and speed. Mythra aditionally also grants foresight like Shulk and aerial bombardments.
Pyra/Mythra: Unlike most Blades the girls are shown to be very capable on their own. Pyra vastly outperforms Rex against Malos at the beginning and Mythra can be played solo in the Torna expansion. And don't forget their Smash role.
Nia: Her Bromarch form would be focused on mobility and healing, while her blade form a combination of power and healing
Morag: With Brighid equiped she'd be very focused on speed, fire and long range while Ageaon would give her even greater speed but force her to get close and intimate.
Masterpon and Popi: Switches between Poppi forms for the conventional ''strong, fast, balanced'' styles.
Zeke! von! Genbu!: Switches between two modes. Comic relief Zeke where his attacks get all sort of random effects as he bumbles his way through battle, and party member Zeke which uses Pandoria based attacks.

Villains:

Metalface: You really can't have a Xenoblade crossover without Metalface. To the point you can leave out any other villain as long as he makes it. He'd naturally be an absolute jugernaut with supreme defense, speed and power. Maybe his gimmick is that if you attack too relentlessly than Metalface will eventually stop to gloat which would leave himself open. He'd also be extra weak against the Monado
Malos: A more offense based Shulk. He'd be able to boost allies too but would ultimately be much more focused on sheer power.
Egil: A more powerful version of Metalface in the sense that his suits gives him the same enflated states but without the gimmick of stopping mid combat to gloat.
Jin: Perhaps the only character faster than Dunban. Very powerful but also very conventional
Zanza: The supreme magic based character who just floats around and bombards everything with magic. Also has visions like Shulk and Rex.
Amalthus: He has two forms. His evil pope form which fights with a combination of his blade Haze and a lot of mooks. With Haze he can shut down Blade users, and the Indoline mooks can be summoned similarly how Chen Gon fights. His other form is his monster form which just focuses on sheer damage and range.

In terms of a new mainline pillar, I'd really love a Camelot Warriors to provide something different from the normal Asian faire. It would function as more of a Diablo-like in Warriors 3rd person perspective with a deep loot system, legendary weapons, and the ability to play characters from Arthurian legend including Arthur, Lancelot, Galahad, Gawain, Mordred, Morgan, et. al. Perhaps it could even include Bladestorm's Edward the Black and Joan of Arc as guest characters.

Would anyone else be interested in that?

I'd be more interested in theory crafting ways to make Warriors games actually good rather than a roster. Maybe my experience with the franchise is just not expansive enough, but it seems to be almost entirely flash with little to no actual substance in its gameplay.

But if you put a gun to my head and made me choose a spin off, then I'd have to say Fate/Stay Night Warriors could be a pretty good concept.

Okay, first off... that's rude. No series deserves to be primarily discoursed by those who don't play them the way Warriors is. Warriors games are good, for fans of that gameplay loop, and we don't want it mangled into something else entirely to appeal to those outside the target audience. Should I go into Souls-like threads and say "I'd be more interested in the games if they were good?" No, because I have no interest in them, and that would be needlessly rude to those who do.

Secondly, and more positively, Fate/Stay Warriors already exists. It's called Fate/Extella and Fate/Extra. It's not made by Koei, but it is there. Not exactly my cup of tea because it isn't really tonally or thematically consistent with the rest of the Fate license. I'd kind of be in support of a new Fate Warriors made by Koei and based off the Fate anime or FGO than whatever it was that Marvelous did.

You know what would be wild? A Warriors game set on Earth, featuring mythical and legendary figures, perhaps from China.

I got a good laugh out of that, thanks.

It's a great concept. I guess my personal preference would be to ditch the driver/blade system in favor of just letting you play the characters. My consistent opinion of XBC2 is that some of the Blades are better, more interesting, and more aesthetically pleasing characters than the drivers.

I know Rex has an annoying hatedom that led to some gloating when the Aegis girls got to be in Smash without him but otherwise I've rarely heard things like people preferring Brighid over Morag, Pandy over Zeke or Bromarch over Nia.

It wasn't a personal attack on you at all. If you like Warriors games then that's great, good for you. I am in no way saying you can't or shouldn't like them. But I have a lot off issues with all the games in the series I've played.

I am in said Rex hatedom, proudly. I don't think that makes me annoying. I just don't like the character, and that's fine. I don't disparage you for liking him, and it is unfortunate that there isn't a possible Smash implementation that pleases everyone.

It's less that I prefer Brigid to Morag (which I don't) or Pandy over Zeke (which I don't). It's more that I'd absolutely love the ability to directly play as characters like Aegaeon, Dagas, and Corvin. Though don't get me wrong. I absolutely get why they wouldn't be, and maybe the game would be more unique for it.

I didn't really take it as a personal attack. Thing is, hardcore Warriors fans are inherently defensive as they are used to having their games reviewed almost exclusively by the kinds of journalists and youtubers that aren't interested in them. No other franchise has to deal with that kind of pervasive negative bias - certainly not without earning it through aggressive consumer unfriendly behaviors.

Anyway, here's another concept. This time for The Legend of Warriors (Trails).

Spoiler

Base Mechanics:

The combat of Persona 5 Strikers is a good fit here, with its pause menu for spells and elemental weaknesses. Content-wise, something like Warriors All Stars would make a great foundation with its map-based system, faction select, and multiple endings.

In terms of new mechanics, Trails would feature deeper build customization and progression through its Orbment system. Every orb drop is useful on everyone, but every character has their own orbment configuration for uniqueness just like the Trails franchise.

Roster:

This one is particularly difficult, as the franchise has a huge cast, but is relatively niche. So, it is inevitable that any roster will leave players unsatisfied. I've chosen 15 playables as a realistic number, but I've rounded things out by using Trails in the Sky 3C's Support Character system to add characters with no rendered models outside of face portraits.

Realistically, to deliver any kind of satisfying roster, you might even need to narrow the focus on one or two nations, as much as I hate the Age of Calamity approach. Something like Cold Steel + Estelle would sting of FE Warriors style roster woes, but it may be the necessary cost for a remotely competent story and a chance at more obscure character picks.

Playable Characters:

Liberl:

1. Estelle Bright

2. Joshua Bright

3. Kevin Graham

4. Scherazard Harvey

5. Klaudia von Auslese

6. Renne Bright

Crossbell:

7. Lloyd Bannings

8. Rixia Mao

Erebonia:

9. Rean Schwarzer

10. Crow Armbrust

11. Olivier Lenheim

12. C

Calvard

13. Van Arkride

14. Agnes Claudel

15. Zin Valthek

Support Characters:

Support characters contribute dialogue and portraits but not full models. They can be slotted into your team for passive bonuses, and they may be eligible for playable status upgrades in a sequel.

Cassius Bright

Agate Crossner

Tita Russell

Josette Capua

Nial Burns

Tio Plato

All members of Class VII

Kurt Vander

And more

Interesting. Is that a bit like being a Black Clover and always having to tell people that almost everyone that reviewed it when it first released was unfairly bashing it and that the story is actually good and creative (I say this as a Black Clover fan)?

By the way, what did you think of the two Warriors spinoff ideas that I posted?

Basically? My perception is that the reviewers are missing the point and dogpiling the franchise disproportionately for things that other franchises and other genres don't get similarly lambasted for. When one franchise is called mindlessly repetitive (they are - but that's part of the enjoyment of thing) while related genres (Diablo-likes and classic beat-em-ups) don't get the same criticism and the literal most popular genre in gaming (shooters) can be aptly described as "center your cursor on them before they center theirs on you," there is an unfair targeted bias at play.

I can't say whether Black Clover is treated unfairly. I haven't seen it and it isn't near the top of my massive to-watch list. I'm still catching up on My Hero Academia here, and I deeply love it - anime just happens to be a secondary hobby to my primary hobby of gaming.

If they made a Black Clover musou, I'd give it the time of day just like all the others. I hate One Piece and I love OPPW3 and 4. I'm definitively not the target audience for Touken Ranbu Musou, and I'll play it as well.

As for Hyrule Warriors BotW prequel... well, it's something that absolutely should have happened and should still happen. People are owed that story, just as we're owed Ike and Roy, and it's pretty shit that it intentionally didn't happen. It's something that should be an alternate ending DLC. Unfortunately, it's probably something I wouldn't experience, as I consider Age of Calamity to be one of the structurally weakest and grindiest Warriors games for a lot of the same reasons as Warriors All Stars.

Yeah; I see what you mean.

Okay.

Okay.

Yeah; it is absolutely something that should've happened. If they were to make it as DLC rather than a separate game, I would hope that it at least would be like Torna: The Golden Country: a DLC that can be purchased and played without having to purchase the base game. I'd only buy it to play the actually-a-prequel DLC, so I see no reason to have to also buy the base game.

Huh; why do you consider Age of Calamity to be those things? Just curious, as I have not played it or any Warriors game.

So, this is a weakness you have to actually play beyond the demo content to appreciate, because the demo is deceptively extremely good. Those first couple levels are really enjoyable, and the sheer scale of grind the game throws at you isn't apparent at that point.

Hyrule Warriors AoC and Warriors All Stars are both structured around a world map. All of the story chapters and side missions are portrayed as objectives on the map, along with collection quests. This is a theoretically cool thing for immersion, but in practice, it really sets in just how overwhelming the amount of content on offer is. It's painful to look at, and extremely intimidating. To exacerbate things further, both games are designed around much smaller rosters - the xp to level each character is way, way higher than Dynasty Warriors, Samurai Warriors, Warriors Orochi, and Fire Emblem Warriors and this discourages you from swapping characters often, which makes the games feel even more grindy and less rewarding. You can get around this by playing on a low difficulty, but the higher difficulties are very much designed around you grinding everything on offer.

Age of Calamity, is actually even worse than All Stars because, on top of all of the other aforementioned flaws, the objectives chosen for side missions are just objectively not fun; they consist of generic "kill x number of enemies, then a boss" quests with no tension, "kill x number of enemies without getting hit at all" challenges (I shouldn't even have to explain how this is fundamentally incompatible with a genre that spawns literally hundreds of onscreen foes), and disgusting rail shooter challenges (rail shooters died for a reason, fam). Then you throw in tons of inane collectible scavenger hunts for upgrades, just like the first Hyrule Warriors. Having to search obscure corners of the map for random Korok seeds is fundamentally bad game design for a genre that is all about clearing objectives as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Anyway, there has been some credible evidence from interviews and the current Bandai Namco Tales of survey that a Tales of Warriors is actively being considered right now. This shoots it up to the top of potential speculation. So with that in mind, here's a concept for it.

Spoiler

Base Mechanics:

Hmm. I think if you took Persona 5 Strikers as a base, which uses a combat system similar to Final Fantasy 7 Remake (action combat with a pause spell menu to simulate turn-based prompts), you'd have a pretty solid foundation. It's a solid foundation for any JRPG-based musou game. But I'd definitely structure the content of the game more like the original Hyrule Warriors, with a batshit crazy story mode, split over separate branches with party members splitting off and reuiniting. Then have an adventure mode for side content which is structured less like Hyrule Warriors' one and more like One Piece Pirate Warriors 3's Dream/Nightmare Logs, which I found much more enjoyable and approachable.

Roster:

So, here's the ones I think are objectively 100% locked in:

1. Lloyd Irving (the mascot)

2. Yuri Lowell (the Ike) and Repede

3. Leon Magnus (the Roy)

4. Cress Albane (the Marth)

5. Alphen

6. Shionne

7. Velvet Crowe

And here's my personal picks:

8. Rita Mordio

9. Sheena

10. Law

11. Jade Curtiss

12. Ludger

13. Sorey (just for the unique moveset potential)

14. Raven

15. Zelos Wilder

And if it can go to 20, some extra picks:

16. Kisara

17. Dolahim

18. Malik Caesar

19. Raine Sage

20. Eizen

Funny enough, I haven't even played the demo.

Yikes; that all does sound grindy.

Heh; "defeat this many enemies without getting hit at all" missions would be almost the opposite of the kind of missions I was suggesting for an actual prequel.

Speaking of different types of missions, I heard that one of the waves of DLC included a mission called "Objective: Survive", clearly in reference to the famous final mission in Halo: Reach (an actual prequel game)… except it is not only possible but easy to beat all the enemies and survive. …It's like they're deliberately mocking anyone that feels the game should've been an actual prequel.

Personally my biggest gripe with the side content was the big emphasis on the timer. Timed missions aren't fun. Who cares if I do a mission in three minutes and two seconds instead of doing it in exactly three minutes? It feels like fake difficulty when you can handle the stage fine enough and your biggest enemy is the timer instead of anything that's actually part of the mission.

For Warriors All Stars this was a gigantic deal breaker for me. Only three Samurai Warriors characters is bad enough, but two of them being Mitsunari and Naotora is downright intolerable. That the third one is the eternally bland Yukimura didn't help matters either.

Normally, I'd agree. But the challenge of a good Musou game is less "what you do" and more "where and in what order you do it." Objective prioritization puzzles are the bread and butter of the franchise, and being able to do these objectives quickly is an inherent part of that.

I mean, certainly none of my favorite DW (Zhou Yu, Xu Shu, Lu Meng) or SW (Magoichi Saika and Kajuro Katakura) characters made the cut, and that didn't help my opinion of things. But I do wonder if it would have been preferable if NO mainline Warriors games were included in favor of being solely Koei's other IP. It's those other characters that actually makes it distinct from Orochi.

Because I don't want to risk losing this post, I'm posting it in a WIP state. Despite its currently incomplete state, I hope it gives an idea of what I envision. Input, especially suggestions or proofreads, are appreciated.

Final Fantasy Warriors

Story

Ignis, Aqua, Aria, and Terrus are four Light Warriors who seek the shards of their home dimension's shattered Dimension Crystal, which have ended up in various other worlds due to the crystal's interdimensional properties. Using an airship equipped with one of these shards, the four companions travel to different dimensions and discover chaos has unfolded thanks to rifts created by the shards. Evil empires deploy armies of soldiers and war machines with the intent of conquering other dimensions and harvesting their resources, while monsters prowl the land and terrorize the populace. Worst of all, the very existence of these worlds is in danger thanks to a rival team of Dark Warriors who serve an ominous entity that seeks to consume all life and magic. Fortunately, our four heroes are not alone in their struggle. During their journey across different worlds, they'll meet many courageous allies ready to join them in their battles to repair the shattered crystal and save the various worlds...

Mechanics

Like most Musou titles, you have your standard combo attacks consisting of a sequence of basic attacks punctuated by stronger attacks. Limit Breaks are FFW's equivalent of Musou Attacks, while Trance is the FFW equivalent of Focus Spirit. Fighters can defend, dash, and use items.

In addition to Limit and Trance, many fighters have MP for casting spells.

Fighters in FFW have access to jobs, weapons, armor, accessories, and Magicite.

  • Jobs define the fighter's basic moveset as well as their choice of weapon and armor. Many fighters are locked to a single job, usually one that is unique to themselves, but some have access to more than one.
  • Weapons add their attack value to the wielder's strength and can sport elemental properties, status effects, or other bonuses. For the sake of simplicity, each job can equip exactly one type of weapon.
  • Armor helps reduce damage dealt to the wearer. Some kinds of armor specialize in resisting specific types of damage or have other secondary effects. Armor is split into head, body, and shield categories.
  • Accessories provide stat buffs, resistance to certain elements or status effects, or a (usually positive) status effect themselves. Unlike weapons and armor, accessories are not limited by job; any fighter can equip any accessory. That said, some accessories will work better for certain fighters than others.
  • Magicite allows the bearer to summon a powerful being at the cost of Trance power. Some launch powerful attacks with a wide area of effect, while others provide a beneficial effect to the summoner and their allies. Like relics, Magicite is not restricted by job and thus can be equipped by anyone.

      • Sage (staff)

Stats

All fighters possess the following stats.

  • HP - The amount of damage that can be taken before being KO'd.
  • Strength - Base stat for physical attacks.

  • Luck - Affects drop rates.
  • Attack - The result of the equipped weapon's attack value plus the wielder's strength. Determines damage dealt by physical attacks.
  • Defense - Reduces damage taken from physical attacks.
  • Magic Defense - Reduces damage taken from magical attacks.

Elements

Spoiler

FFW features elements common to the FF series:

  • Fire - Sets foes ablaze. Effective against plants, undead, and ice-based creatures.
  • Ice - Freezes foes in their tracks. Effective against fire, water, and reptilian monsters.
  • Lightning - Paralyzes foes with electric shock. Effective against machines and aquatic creatures.
  • Earth - Knocks down or petrifies foes.
  • Water - Soaks enemies, making them more susceptible to ice and lightning attacks. Effective against fire monsters.
  • Wind - Blows enemies away. Effective against flying enemies.
  • Poison - Poisons foes. Effective against humans and other organic creatures.
  • Gravity - Cuts enemy health by a percentage. Effective against flying enemies.
  • Dark - Can inflict Curse on foes.
  • Holy - Effective against dark and undead monsters.

Status Effects

Spoiler

There are plenty of status effects, as per the norm for FF. Many are inflicted by spells or attacks, while others can be applied by items or equipment.

  • Positive
    • Float - Recipient hovers above the ground, making them immune to Earth attacks and hazardous terrain.
    • Haste - Recipient's movement and attacks become faster.
    • Invisible - Recipient cannot be seen by enemies and will avoid all physical attacks. Magical attacks however will hit and dispel the status.
    • Protect - Recipient receives less physical damage.
    • Regen - Recipient recovers HP over time.
    • Reraise - Automatically revive once when knocked out.
    • Shell - Recipient receives less magical damage.
  • Neutral
    • Berserk - Standard attacks become stronger, but Trance, Limit, Items, Defending, and Summoning are all disabled.
    • Fury - The recipient's Limit gauge fills faster, but their attacks are more likely to miss.
    • Reflect - Bounces magic off the recipient. This includes beneficial as well as harmful magic.
    • Sedate - The recipient's Limit gauge fills slower, but they take less damage.
    • Soak - The recipient is soaked with water, making them more resilient against fire but more susceptible to ice and lightning.
    • Oil - The recipient is covered in oil, making them more resilient against water but more susceptible to fire.
  • Negative
    • Ablaze - Victim is on fire and continuously takes damage for a short time.
    • Blind - Victim's attacks become less accurate.
    • Charm - Victim is controlled by the enemy and turns against their allies.

    • Freeze - Victim is frozen solid and can't move for a short time. Being near fire will thaw the victim, and being hit physically will double the damage dealt as well as free the victim.
    • Mini - Victim is shrunk down, reducing attack strength and movement speed. However, dodging attacks becomes easier.
    • Poison - Victim loses HP over time.
    • Paralysis - Victim can't move for a short time.

    • Sleep - Victim falls asleep and can't move until they wake up. Receiving damage from a physical attack will wake them up.
    • Slow - Victim's movement and attacks become slower.
    • Stop - Victim is completely immobilized for a short time. Any damage taken during this time is applied once the effect wears off.
    • Toad - Victim is transfigured into a toad, preventing use of Limit Breaks, Summoning, or Trance. The transformation wears off after a while.
    • Zombie - Victim becomes undead, causing them to take damage from healing effects and making them vulnerable to Fire and Holy but rendering them immune to Death effects.
