  1. To be fair, I DID ask for optimized/ideal choices, so it's reasonable to dismiss Tiki as an option under those grounds. (I appreciate keeping her in mind all the same Euk, haha. BTW thanks for the initial reply, AC, was very informative.) Gotta be honest, Lucina WAS the main waifu I was considering for optimization purposes. (Besides, I'm interested to see how the story plays out with a familial bond to her anyway, so that'll just be an opportunity to try that.) Noire also sounds interesting. I got plenty of time to decide, though. Thanks, gents.
  2. Do you have a proposed tier (or range of tiers) for them?
  3. I like to ship the unmarriable characters, like Walhart x Aversa and Emmeryn x Gangrel. My main headcanon is one that I think a lot of people have, which is that the reason there are so many Annas in Awakening is because one of them figured out how to abuse the Outrealm Gate to spawn an infinite number of Annas from the infinite number of parallel universes. Heh, I have a similar one to this. I like to pretend that MU in Awakening is the same as my tactician in FE7 who somehow fell through the Outrealm gate into Plegia, where he was adopted by Validar-slash-bred to be the perfect vessel for Grima, which would probably have something to do with being from another dimension to begin with. Details are sketchy. I'm pretty sure the Henry thing is actually canon, given his ending when he's single. Although... Not familiar with this in the JP version… care to elaborate?
  4. Right, I got my copy of Awakening back and started a new (hard mode) playthrough with the intent of going through the challenge maps and such (maybe not Apotheosis, but I'm trying to plan like I am). Also, I have basically no knowledge of FEA's 'competitive' metagame beyond a loose idea of what classes and abilities are good, if that tells you anything useful… Though I've been trying to read through the older pages of this thread when I have time to get a better grasp on it. Right now I basically have no plans for pairs at the moment beyond Chrom (Olivia) and Sumia (Henry), and am looking to optimize as much as possible (in terms of Galeforce, and anything else that might be relevant). Here's what I was thinking for the other kids: (all of these are subject to change, though, so new suggestions are welcome) - Gaius!Noire - Donny!Kjelle (< ^ these sound pretty universally like good choices for those two from what I hear) - Gregor!Brady Dreadfighter / Ricken!Brady Sage / Virion!Brady - Ricken!Owain Sage / Libra!Owain - Vaike!Severa / Stahl!Severa / Lon'qu!Severa - Stahl!Gerome / Virion!Gerome / Gregor!Gerome - Kellam!Yarne / Frederick!Yarne - Lon'qu!Laurent / Gregor!Laurent / Stahl!Laurent / pretty much any other Laurent - Vaike!Nah / Kellam!Nah / ??? - Lucina!Morgan / Tiki!Morgan / ??? (MU Skill+/Luck-) ((I'm partial to Tiki, but if she has nothing to offer Morgan as I suspect then I'm willing to forgo her for practically anyone else)) I also have no clear ideas on lead VS support roles for anyone save probably Lucina (TBH not sure I understand what constitutes the roles), so I'm open to suggestions there as well. PS, Are there any dads that are just straight-up better avoid pairing if you have a better option? (Sounds like Virion might be one of them?)
  5. I'm all for the distinction of extra tiers if you guys think it's a good idea. Clearly there's some difference of opinion on who belongs where… I think on that note, I'll highlight some of the classes that may or may not need more discussion. Changes I'm making to the OP list: - Tiers are now named after the weapon tiers because why not? - Removing Lodestar and Conquerer from the list overall unless someone can give a good reason why they should be listed - Tiers largely reset to compensate for the doubled number of tiers. (Refer to OP for current tiering) Topics for discussion: - Is the Sage really so far above the others that it deserves its own spot in Top tier? What other units would be appropriate for top-tier, if any? - How much use do non-FK mixed Staff units really have (Trickster/War Monkleric)? Is the high utility of Staves enough to keep them out of bottom tier? For discussion purposes, let's try to stick to a general conduct of discussing one or a few units at a time until a general consensus is reached (at which point I'll add them back to the list). When discussing a unit, don't forget to mention which tier you think it belongs in. EDIT: Currently, it sounds like the general consensus is that Falcoknights' and Valkyries' utility with staves makes them A-tier worthy, so I'm adding them in.
  6. Who didn't you like before, and why do you like them now? Just out of curiosity.
  7. I decided it's just simpler to cut out the whole in-game tiers business, chiefly for the reason that I don't really know what specifically I'm trying to accomplish, and also because I feel that trying to figure that out is dragging the thread off-topic. So for now, this is just a postgame tiers thread. If you guys like, maybe I'll make an in-game tiers thread later (or someone else can).
  8. At this point I'm seriously considering removing the in-game tier list and just focusing on the postgame stuff. Seamajor's suggestion is a good plan B for me if I can figure out how to do that, but I'm pretty busy today.
  9. You could always share it on the forum and get input and stuff, I'm sure people would be happy to contribute and make your job easier. In any case, I guess you could consider this thread sort of an until-then scenario… beheh... So with that, I think I'll try to get this thread back on topic. Current nominations: - Berserkers for high-tier - Generals for mid-tier - Manaketes for in-game high-tier
  10. I probably should have mentioned by now that I haven't actually done a Lunatic run, and thus don't really know what I'm talking about… Actually, the latter half of that statement sums up a good deal of what was wrong with anything I was saying. ~___~ Sorry. Do you guys think it'd be a better idea to make a tier list for each difficulty? Maybe a separate thread for in-game tiers might be a good idea, and we can just relegate this one to postgame stuff. I'll be the first to admit this isn't really a thing I have any real knowledge or authority in, I'm just trying to facilitate it. *shrug* Probably. I'll defer you to the statement I made above. x___X If you have a better idea for how it should be classified, I'm fully open to suggestions (and I mean that in earnest, no sass intended). Regarding Manaketes, I'll add them to postgame medium-tier. I'm not sure about Nowi, but I feel like Tiki (possibly Nowi too though) might be strong enough to justify high tier for in-game manaketes. Thoughts? I figured Zerkers were considered high-tier, but I wanted to be sure first, so I'll add them. Regarding Generals, it's sounding like they're appropriate for postgame mid-tier given what the Czar of Yoshis says. For what it's worth, I agree with you. I'd actually much rather just see such a guide myself, but I don't have the time/ambition to facilitate such an ambitious project-- just one like this. If anyone else wants to do that, I'd be more than happy to get behind it and repurpose this thread for it unless someone wants to make a new one.
  11. Who are the best wives considered to be for a male MU? (current asset/flaw is Skill/Luck, but is negotiable as well) Do any of the kids of the already-mothers particularly suffer from being fathered by MU? etc.
  12. Added Generals and Snipers to low tier in-game and Generals to low postgame. I think difficulty doesn't quite matter; it's hard to say since I haven't done many in-game runs, but the idea of the In-Game tiers is basically for speedruns and such, I think… Practically everything is usable on Normal, and Lunatic requires serious grinding, so maybe we should look at Hard mode…? I kind of wanted to ask you guys about that, actually… As for classes/skills, I'm assuming no reclassing outside of Donny since that requires extra grinding. I think ideally, it's just the one Master Seal to whichever upgraded class and the skills that come with it and the base class. Skills factor in though, yes. (I hope I sort of answered your question, I'm not sure that I did. ~___~) @ Gaius, don't Vantage+Vengeance and Nosferatu/Aversa's Night make Sorcs passable at least? There's also Mire, though TBH I don't really know how viable it's considered to be. Do you guys think we could get some mid-tier nominations in here as well? I know they're the hardest to do, but not everything can be top or bottom of the barrel. Personally, Sorcerers sound like a pretty good candidate for Postgame mid-tier right now given the mixed opinions. I'm thinking Wyvern Lords might also fit the bill.
  13. I think Tables was talking Top Tier for Taciticians in the in-game list. Theoretically, Nah could get Lancebreaker for the horse weakness, but yeah I hear you there. I'm mainly waiting on other classes until we get some input from more people, but I'll probably follow your suggestion with the Dreadfighter provided not too many people say otherwise. They definitely seem good with the 3 weapons & dat Aggressor.
  14. Allright, if you say so. Adding a top tier for Tactician with the assumption that people generally agree with this.
  15. Maybe Tactician should get its own 'Top Tier', but I don't think there's really a reason to disclude everything else from High Tier just for the reason that the Tactician is the best. We're looking for reasonable distribution in each, ideally.
  16. (So as far as the postgame tiers go, I don't know a lot about this particular metagame, and there were some things that I wanted to clarify for myself… Firstly, I know that classes like Berserkers, Sages, and Darkfliers are generally considered to be the best and stuff, with competing classes like Warriors considered not as good by comparison.) @ tuvarkz: I figured as much about Taguels/Bow Knights/Warriors/Tricksters/Griffons and presumably War Monks/Clerics as well, but why are Dark Knights not considered to be good? I've seen a few sources that consider the DK to be a good reclass for Nah, if no one else, and I figured the ability to use Anima is useful at least. I'm guessing these guys are considered bad for being too generalized with their stats? That seems to be the common thread. Also, I'm not doubting/disputing this, but why shouldn't the Lodestar/Conquerer classes be included? (for curiosity's sake if nothing else; guessing it has something to do with breedability) Also, are Dreadfighter and Bride considered viable classes for postgame? I've seen a few mentions of the DF in the Pairing thread, but I've never once seen anyone mention the Bride, when it actually seems like a fairly useful class-- Brave Lances/Bows + Rescue Staves and such. I realize it's not as straightforwardly strong as the Sage, but is it not viable at all? I think that's all the questions I have for now. (in the meantime I'm continuing to dig my way through the Pairing Thread) EDIT: * * Added Sage/Darkflier to high tier and Bow Knight/Warrior/Trickster/Griffon/Taguel/Conquerer/Lodestar to low tier * *
  17. Hey guys, I was exploring the FE13 Subforum and I didn't really see any threads that specifically delve into which classes are the most useful in Awakening, so I thought I'd make one just for that purpose. The idea of this thread is to sort the classes for how useful they're generally considered to be for the postgame metagame-- namely spotpass challenges and challenge maps like Apotheosis. This refers more generally to which classes are the most useful to reclass into, regardless of the character. (Assume all DLC content available.) I'll keep track of more or less what the general consensus is in the OP for reference to anyone looking for like a general classing / strategy guide. S-Rank: Top of the line, second to none. - Sage [s / A Limbo] - Darkflier A-Rank: The best units with the most essential qualities required for success in the postgame. - Valkyrie - Falcoknight - Hero - Dancer B-Rank: Very strong units that typically act as good filler. May be interchangeable with one another or some A-rank units. - Berserker - Paladin - Sniper - Assassin - Dreadfighter - Bride C-Rank: Strong units with unique niches, though these roles are usually overshadowed by more powerful units. - Wyvern Lord - Sorcerer - Dark Knight - Greatlord - Grandmaster - Manakete D-Rank: Units that are usable, but mostly outclassed by other units. Not bad, but typically not worth a team slot. - Bow Knight - Warrior - General - Great Knight - Griffon Rider - Swordmaster - Trickster - War Monk E-Rank: Bottom-of-the-barrel units that have no practical use or application in competitive settings. - Villager - Taguel - Lodestar General Conduct: For discussion purposes, try to stick to discussing one or a few units at a time. While completed, the list may still be subject to change if enough substantial evidence for the change is offered up. **When discussing a unit, don't forget to mention which tier you think it belongs in.**
  18. Yeah, I figured that might be the case, but I wasn't sure I should make a new thread yet. Perhaps I'll do that, thanks.
  19. I would like to know what is the general opinion on how good each of the classes in Awakening is perceived as being. In other words… tier them for me (based on general consensus)? Include DLC classes (I think just Dreadfighter and Bride), but assume no DLC skills like Limit Breaker and Iote's Shield. For instance, I know classes like Berserkers and Sages are considered 'High-Tier'. Much obliged in advance.
  20. Yeah, I did a review for Awakening a while back around the time it came out. Reread it recently when my resurgent Fire Emblem obsession came back around, and it actually wasn't a horrible review, so I thought I'd share it. I know most people know Awakening like the back of their hands by now so there's probably no untreaded ground here, but take from it what you will, I suppose.
  21. I know Brady is probably best as pure magic, but back in my first playthrough I had the crazy idea to have Vaike father him and make him into a War Monk with like, Axefaire/Galeforce/Renewal/Healtouch/one other thing, probably Counter/Lifetaker/Luna/Defender or something. Is that at all viable for the more intense difficulties? Probably not Apotheosis-level, but maybe like the Pegusisters DLC maps or something? Has anyone else ever tried something like this?
  22. Would it be appropriate for me to ask about similar things in here, or should I make my own topic for that?
  23. Oh that's sick, man, thanks! Dodge and Gaius, same as well. It's nice to be here. So uh, I dunno, is there anything else you guys want to know about me? I didn't know what else to say in the intro OP o____o
  24. I just think it's funny that you didn't raise the same objection for the Thunder Mage > Valkyrie thing. > 3 > Incidentally, I did realize that problem after I'd written it, though I'm inclined to agree with Canon that abolishing the gender-specificity in classes might not be a bad idea either... But eh, what's done is done.
  25. Since we're mentioning Virion... I have this for the people who think he's too full of himself and hate him for other such reasons. The caption that goes with it is 'Sometimes we say things to try and hide the words we fear the silence will say for us.'. And you know what, I can relate to that.
