  1. Is there a resource anywhere on SF that lists where you can buy rare items from that aren't on any of the map shops-- like Mire, for instance (Gharnef in this case)?
  2. If 'A is not adequate' then isn't a 3rd Gen Morgan bad, since he/she can't marry anybody? You're basically trading the MaMU's daughter for the wife in terms of usability, right? EDIT: Oh.
  3. Anacybele pretty much summed it up, that's universally considered the best allocation of each parent overall to get as many kids as possible with Galeforce.
  4. All legendary weapons can be obtained via the DLC map Infinite Regalia, which gives you a certain amount of them each time you play through (I don't quite recall how many). If you have/can afford that map, you just replay it over and over until you get the weapons you want. As for money grinding, the DLC map Golden Gaffe is more or less the same. If you don't have DLC and don't want to get it, you can only get one of each legendary weapon, and you want to use Leif's Swords with someone who's got a high Luck stat (I usually use Donny since MU's flaw is Luck) to grind for money. I'm not sure where to get Fortify staves. Also, I think the general consensus is that Brave-type weapons are always considered the best. Personally, I like to change it up and throw in some of the other things you mention as well, depending on the scenario.
  5. First of all, Pacman will NOT be in this game, I'll go ahead and call that right now, and I have no problem betting anything and everything on that-- because he's first and foremost an arcade character. 3rd party characters only have a shot at getting in if 1) they're primarily console characters, and 2) they have some significance to Nintendo's history (this is why Megaman was such an obvious choice to get in). ((also if you're Hideo Kojima and you beg Sakurai to put your character in lol)) It's really silly that people think Pacman even has a shot of getting in, even if Bandai/Namco IS codeveloping. A better Advance Wars AT sounds pretty good to me. I don't have that many guesses/hopes as far as Assist Trophies go beyond Tiki, haha. I suppose some stuff with Kirby's animal friends from KDL2/3 would be nice. Oh. Does anyone else think maybe Professor Layton has a shot of getting in, whether as an AT or a PC? His franchise has been pretty successful for Nintendo, as I recall, though I think he's third party as well.
  6. How many more 3rd party characters do you guys think will be in the game? Personally, I guessed 2 from the get-go, as it's probably pretty difficult to handle the issues of getting the rights and such for many more than that. I suppose I can see up to 4, possibly? TBH I'm not sure that Snake will return, seeing as he's being established pretty solidly as a Playstation license lately... TBH the 3rd party character that I'd most like to see (outside of Megaman of course) is Simon Belmont from Castlevania. Though, since Castlevania has also been pretty active on non-Nintendo consoles lately, I'm hardly expecting him. (Still, having the complete Captain N squad would be nice lol) As an alternate convo topic, what sort of Assist Trophy / Pokeball characters do you guys want to see this time around?
  7. I like Nowi a lot, I think she's super likable and a lot of fun in her supports; the only thing that keeps me from liking her as much as I could is the whole lolicon thing. I ain't down with that, yo. In my MU's canon, MU forces Nowi to wear more clothes LOL (especially after she was apparently a bad influence on his daughter's fashion choices). Other than that, Nowi seems like a pretty straightforward Tiki/Myrrh/Fae baby manakete archetype, and I don't know that there's much else to her...? Still, she's adorable and she makes me smile all the same. But yeah, her choice of wardrobe is seriously the only thing keeping her from being one of my top favorite characters in this game.
  8. Is using Tiki a necessity if I'm having MU marry her, though? I guess the S-rank support bonuses are pretty important... and yeah, the galeforce thing is an issue... What about outside Apotheosis, then?
  9. Something the advisors of this thread may be overlooking is that this is probably more of a just-for-fun playthrough, and likely not on any of the higher difficulties. In that light, Swordmaster should be just fine; practically all the classes are usable on lower difficulties. Trickster and Dark Knight would also be useful classes, since they have decent Magic and also wield swords. Tricksters' Staff utility can be fun to play around with, plus some decent skills, and Dark Knight has the cool movement and stuff. EDIT: ...Oh, but um. That didn't really answer your question, did it. Well, IMO Luck is always a pretty safe flaw to go with, although you could also go for your Defense or Resistance if you're gonna be a Swordmaster, since they have high dodge rates. Strength might be a good asset if you think you'll reclass as other physical classes, likewise with Magic asset for magic classes. Personally, I like to use both types of classes as well as mixed ones so I made my avatar Skill + / Luck - , but that's just me. EDIT: Czar Yoshi is right lol, Luck is a bad flaw to pick if you want Armsthrift. Not sure I know which one to recommend, then. Maybe HP? *shrug* I think Luck+ / HP- technically sort of cancel out any negatives of either, if I recall correctly It's like if someone says they want to use Swords Dance Skarmory in Pokemon; you don't assume they're going to do so competitively and tell them not to, you assume they're probably going to be doing that in-game or something
  10. That sounds bloody fantastic to me. Allright... I'm having second thoughts about my MUxLucina pairing again for sentimental reasons. (I really want to see how the story plays out like that, but...) I'm on Hard mode. How usable is Tiki!Morgan for challenge maps, possibly Apotheosis, and what some good possible uses of said Morgan be? (I realize people probably haven't done this so it's likely to be a lot of theorymonning, and I'm okay with that) Also I have absolutely nothing against Lucina, she's super cool really but I like Tiki a lot TwT
  11. Henry is absolutely delightful. Just... just a peach, that boy. Love his VA. I'm always a little surprised to hear how few people seem to like Kjelle (and Sully, for that matter) ; I for one enjoy what a badass Kjelle is-- or tries to be, at least. I haven't seen a ton of her character, but I like what I have seen, and how she's willing to learn despite some stubbornness and her immense tough front in her supports with maMU. Sully as well is super tough in a really simple, likable way. Speaking of Cavaliers Stahl reminds me of myself a lot. Outwardly he seems bland, but there's surprisingly a lot to him that makes him really... well, not. He's a pretty ordinary nice guy, but the writers go to decent lengths to keep him interesting as well. Actually though the one I find myself most interested in of late is Libra, and I'm not completely sure why.
  12. I don't know how many games are of serious literary merit, but there are definitely those that have it-- Atlus games like Catherine and Persona (from what I hear, anyway) have pretty good writing, and I'd count Fire Emblem (though perhaps not Awakening) among them in terms of being pretty easy for audiences to get invested in. I don't know if they're quite on the level of other games, but I would definitely say that the story is a big part of the appeal for most FE games. That's still true in Awakening, even if the story is rushed and dumbed down in a lot of ways that make it feel less significant than other FE stories. Characters help a plot, but they're not everything to it, which is probably why games like PoR and GotHW had a bigger impact on people who played them than Awakening did.
  13. Miriel's way of speaking is really awkward sometimes, but her excessively scientific approach to everything actually occasionally makes for some legitimately fascinating observations, considering the medieval level of technology in this very modern era (but that's another topic).
  14. At this point, I'm reluctant to make a judgment call on raising Darkfliers to S or keeping them in A given how even the debate seems to be. I suppose for now I'll put it into S/A Limbo.
  15. Among the kids, I like both Laurent and Yarne better than their moms. Miriel and Panne weren't bad or anything, but their sons felt more layered and interesting than the pretty tropey character archetypes that the moms were.
  16. Is there any way to know what they are? (Aside from maxing their stats, I hope?) EDIT: v v v Ah, much obliged, I missed that somehow. Thanks. v v v
  17. Sorry to double-post, but I had another question that I felt was relevant enough to bump... (I had planned to make a thread for this, but I figured it wasn't worth devoting an entire discussion topic to) So, I had a question about the Einherjar units. I know that they're basically modified avatar units, but specifically, I wanted to know do they all have the same stats / caps? Or are they truly like the avatar, where each individual unit has its own asset/flaw? Thanks in advance.
  18. Tradition for the sake of tradition and nothing else is pointless. (I have a similar beef with Jigglypuff, but that's another story...) The whole reason Marth had japanese vocals in the first place was because Fire Emblem was a JP-only franchise at the time; and the reason he was still japanese in Brawl (even though Ike and Lyn weren't) was because his game hadn't come to the west yet. Now that it HAS, there's no point for him to still speak Japanese-- it's alienating for western audiences. I for one am with the people who'd actually want to know what he's saying. Besides, it's not as though the voice casting for Brawl was awful or anything. (I liked Samus' Brawl voice better than her Other M one, for one) I'm sure it'd be good if they decided to do it.
  19. ^ That was kind of the main problem that I had with the kids, even though I think the concept is cool and I like quite a lot of them on an individual basis. But perhaps we're getting a bit off-topic. So... uh... Minerva totally has the hots for Sully's badass demon horse.
  20. Heh, glad you guys are enjoying the thread. Even though I like everybody, I'll probably take some time to talk about just about everyone. x3 But...! I suppose I'll start with my top five (from the parent generation, at least)! 5) Henry - TBH this is mainly because my GF is so enamored with the boy, and it rubbed off on me quite a bit, heh. His cheery demeanor combined with his bloodlust is morbidly hilarious, and on top of that, he has a highly sympathetic and tragic backstory to boot. It's so hard not to love this boy. 4) Gregor - Goddamn, this mofo is just so likeable. I looked at his official art of him doin' the ole hearty muscleman laugh and was like, 'Oh I'm gonna like this guy'. And you know what? He didn't disappoint. His Russian accent makes no sense but I don't care because of how fun his dialogue is, and underneath his goofy and seemingly-greedy exterior he's actually a super kind, careworn, surprisingly wise guy. THIS is how you write someone who seems outwardly greedy (Anna, I'm looking at you. Okay no more negativity sry sry). 3) Cherche / Minerva - Not only is Cherche a totally classy lady, polite and kind at all the right times, she's also a complete badass who doesn't take shit from anybody, like a more refined, effeminate version of Sully (though I sort of feel bad to compare the two, very different as they are). I love the fact that she can see the beauty in almost any creature, since she finds ferocious creatures utterly adorable-- something about that is just so endearing. SPEAKING of which, Minerva shares this slot for being the most (/ only) developed animal character, which I like that they did. Animals, while not self-aware and such, totally have a degree of sentience that not a lot of people realize, and I love that Minerva has that too. 2) Tharja - The controversial one, eh ~3~ Honestly I totally get why most people don't like Tharja-- and yet, I don't. She's no different from many other people in that her outward personality and the player's first impressions of her speak little to her underlying personality. It's funny because, despite her stalker tendencies and outwardly being a habitual user of others, she's really not crazy and actually not that mean in reality-- if anything, her supports with Nowi show that she's the biggest goshdarn closet sweetheart on the planet. Despite acting as mean as possible to most people and pretending like she doesn't care what people think, you can see that it's more just a shell she puts around herself to maintain her reputation or to keep herself from getting hurt or whatever; her supports with the avatar show that she's actually pretty sensitive when it comes to bothering people she actually DOES like. Now, I know the main thing a lot of people hate about her is how she uses Noire as a guinea pig for hexes and such, and to be honest, I don't think I can really defend her for that-- I do think that she loves her daughter, though, in her own twisted way. (And let's be honest-- it's not as though being from a future where everything has gone to shit couldn't have had ANY bearing on Noire developing a split personality-- I think it's just a possibility, anyway, but maybe I'm being biased). I just think a lot of people ignore Tharja's good qualities, you know? She's really not that bad. 1) Tiki - My waifu ~3~ So yeah. Even though Tiki gets very little development in this game, I feel like the concept of what she is alone makes her incredibly deep. The notion of immortality being a curse by means of having to watch anyone/everyone you ever love leave or die isn't a particularly original one, I know, but I found its presentation quite touching with her all the same. The fact that she allows herself to befriend people despite knowing she's going to lose them and having experienced that pain before speaks to how strong she is, and the fact that she can both enjoy herself with and learn things from those infinitely her junior speaks to her wisdom as well. Her S-support with MU quite predictably went with a very Arwen-syndrome approach, yet even though I was fully expecting it, I still couldn't help get a bit misty-eyed at it all the same. Also, being a freakin' dragon-lady with thousands of years of combat experience making her a complete badass doesn't hurt. Actually now that I think about it I don't think she actually has that much experience fighting does she? *shrug* Either way... being a very old dragon makes her crazy-strong by default Also, her theme song is really serene and nice and it makes me smile. Also, I really like the voicework they did for her.
  21. So... I know there's the 'which character did you dislike' thread, but I noticed there doesn't seem to be a particularly recent one about which ones you DO like. So, in the interest of reversing the negativity of that other thread, let's use this topic to discuss who our favorite characters are, and why! Personally, I find pratically everyone that you can recruit pretty likable in their own ways. I'll talk about my own top favorites more later, as I've a lot to say and little time for it at the moment. (Take a wild guess who my favorite is lol) TO BE CLEAR: This is NOT a thread to discuss characters you don't like; there's already one for that. As of 3/20/14 this thread follows the principle of 'if you don't have anything nice to say, then clap your freakin' lid.'
  22. (@ OP) An apt question. The Nostalgia Critic went into this question a bit as it relates to films, but I think some points he makes are still applicable to things like this. Personally, I tend to do the most nitpicking on games I like the most, actually; I nitpick the shit out of FE Awakening and SSB Brawl because of how much I enjoy them, I think maybe as sort of a way of expressing that-- and how much more I'd LIKE to enjoy them. Rather, I think I nitpick because I don't WANT to have any problems with something I like so much, so it's sort of wishful thinking that the game was indeed as perfect as I'd like. Nitpicking could also be a way of keeping developers accountable for their mistakes in a way (assuming devs read game reviews, which I think is a safe guess to make) by letting them know how they can improve for future installments. It just makes me appreciate games like FE7 and LoZ Wind Waker all the more though sometimes, since I can scarcely think of anything to nitpick with them.
  23. TBH I think I would have rather seen something like that too, but I can't deny that I think it's sort of important that they did what they did to get so much mass-market appeal. I guess it raises the question of is it important for it to be more artful and meaningful in spite of the pending twilight of the series, or for it to do whatever it can to cling to existence? Then again, it's possible too that it didn't need to stoop like that to stick around... But it's impossible to know now. Incidentally, Vaike x Maribelle is one of my favorite pairings for her story-wise. It gives Brady his natural hair color, makes him well suited to being a War Cleric (his default upgraded class), and is pretty sweet besides, with their endings meshing rather nicely (Vaike continuing to fight for his lower-class neighborhood's rights + Maribelle's philanthropy to the lower-class).
