  1. Huh, this was something that jumped out for Elise, Camilla, and Sakura (in roughly decreasing order of obviousness), but I must admit that the connotation escaped me for Hinoka. I am curious as to what you (and Mr. Sinister) think are the flags there.
  2. The Oracles of Delphi are the most famous oracles. They are known for two things in Greek legends: 1. Prophecies of doom, often against the person who asked them for a prophecy. In many cases, the actions the person to whom the prophecy was addressed takes some action that lead to the prophecy coming true. The most famous example is probably the story of Oedipus. This is the inspiration for the poll. 2. Equivocal prophecies, which can be taken in a number of ways. The most famous story is probably the prophecy of "If you attack Persia, you will destroy a great kingdom." The king of Lydia then took that advice, lost the war, and got his kingdom conquered. The kingdom he destroyed was, of course, his own. This is the inspiration behind the Robin and Chrom choice: [spoiler=Awakening]As Euklyd pointed out, you are Validar in that scenario. Yes, your daughter takes the throne after you are killed, and your kingdom is conquered, but the reason for those events is that your daughter joined the king of the neighboring kingdom, then helped him kill you and conquer (take) your kingdom. A neutral observer would probably say the outcome is better for Plegia, but if I'm the loser, I am very unlikely to see it in that light. That's my choice for least hopeful. Most hopeful: Tristan and Destin. Tristan is the second most militarily accomplished in that list (first being Robin), which the Tower ending shows. He joined Destin less out of necessity and more out of practicalness--It was more expedient to join the charismatic leader of the revolution than run two at the same time. He demonstrates some degree of political acumen in the game, but sequels suggest that Xenobia entered a golden age under him. Versalia also leads a golden age, but the in game events suggest that she was a figurehead who had really good advisers--still an excellent outcome for the kingdom, but I'd prefer my child having more personal contributions to the rule. Elincia has a more admirable story, but her rule is not as good as Tristan--at least by the parts we are shown or told. Which Magnus? The only Magnus I know of helped a rebel army overthrown the kingdom and kill the entire (legitimate) royal family.
  3. a champion will lead an army, and with the help of that army, your child will take your former kingdom. Your child, the champion, and you share roughly the same relationship as the parent, child, and champion do in the game of origin, or in the backstory, when available.
  4. I mean you can't use editors, hacks, etc to make a character into a class that he or she cannot use within the limits of the game (including with DLCs). Sage is not permitted. This is because the player must have Chrom on the field, and he cannot change into sage. This is a corollary of the limitations. The second corollary is that staves are not permitted, because Chrom has no staff using class.
  5. The conditions seem simple enough that someone must've done it: 1. Every unit the player has on the field is of the same class and 2. No third party tool Though perhaps additional limitations, such as no paid DLC, is necessary to make this interesting.
  6. Your pairing strategy is the same regardless of whether you are using cross attack type or same attack type: You maximize dual strike chance and support position's raw attack power. This is because the damage increase from the str/mag bonus of a matching attack type is puny compared to the damage increase from str/mag caps of the support class. For example, a dread fighter is much better paired with an assassin than a bride. A dark flier is (almost always) much better paired with a general than a dread fighter. A sniper+sage is good, but that is because the sniper's high skl and skl pairup is good with anyone. You match attack type because it's easier to take advantage of different def/res values, not because of the negligible difference in str/mag.
  7. You are thinking of the maiden's requirements. Olivia's special condition will override support points. As long as you do not achieve any support ranks between Chrom and his other potential wives, he can marry Olivia.
  8. ...to be able to marry the cute princess he rescues early in the game. Or am I missing someone else?
  9. If you want to use LB and AT, switch out Aegis and Pavise. Limit Breaker gives you enough extra avoid, def, and res that you no longer need the chance to halve damage.
  10. You can get 3 double Galeforce pairs with MaMU by delibately benching characters. If MaMU marries gen 1, you bench a girl and have all 3 Galeforce boys marry Galeforce girls. If MaMU marries gen 2, you bench the girl without Galeforce and one of the guys without Galeforce. When I made the MaMU marrying gen 2 causes you to lose an action comment, I was made the assumption that you'd deploy all gen 2 characters (7 pairs). So the comment was not quite correct. But MaMU marrying gen 1 and benching 1 girl is probably a better use of resources than MaMU marrying gen 2 and benching a boy and a girl. 100% DS is the result of Chrom's Dual Strike+ skill. Any of his wives can get 100% DS. But FeMU has the unique advantage of having a 100% damage proc (Vengeance) to go with the 100% DS. Maribelle can also guarantee results (Assume you will tak retaliation damage and use Lifetaker to restore lost hp), but she can only do so on player phase. She does give an excellent Lucina to support a 3rd gen Morgan if you want to go that route, though.
  11. I can only think of one notable threshold that the extra 1 spd mod allows Inigo to hit: 69 spd as a dread fighter without any class pairup spd bonus. There are probably others when we take away DLCs, but without some examples, I would not consider that 1 spd difference between Chrom and Stahl important enough to sacrifice Chrom's combat ability--Chrom is force deployed; Inigo is not. Olivia as a combatant means you lose your dancer; Maribelle and Sumia do not have any special use. Though my newfound favorite for Inigo is Frederick for being able to stack avd higher than Lon'qu!Severa (though he loses to Donnel!Kjelle).
  12. If you are playing with DLC, it matters very little what pairings you use, because they are mostly different ways of overkill. How you choose the pairings depend on what you want out of the pairings more than anything. As for me, I like to, as much as possible, leave all the thinking to the planning stage instead of the execution stage and minimize RNG. I also like to leave room for non-DLC and non-rally challenges.
  13. Skill builds Parentheses indicate builds if I decide to do a no DLC Apo run. Chrom: LB/DS+/BF/Charm/Agg as sniper (DS+/Charm/Hit+20/Skl+2/BF as BK) FeMU: LB/V/V/GF/Anathema as valkyrie (Vengeance/BF/Anathema/Deliverer//Mov +1 as sniper) Laurent: LB/TF/Anathema/Mag+2/AT (TF/Mag+2/Anathema/Skl+2/AT) Lucina: LB/V/V/DS+/GF (V/V/TF/DS+/DS+ as sage) Morgan: Spectrum/Strength/Skill/Luck/Mov+1 Nah: Heart/Speed/Magic/Move/Resistance (Speed/Magic/Move/Mov+1) Owain: LB/TF/Agg/GF/Luna Cynthia: LB/TF/Luna/GF/Anathema Gerome: LB/Deliverer/Tantivy/Agg/Lancebreaker Severa: LB/Luna/GF/BF/AT Inigo: LB/Luna/GF/Aggressor/AF Kjelle: LB/AF/AT/Axebreaker/Lancebreaker Brady: LB/Luna/GF/Aggressor/TF Noire: LB/Luna/GF/Hit +20/Anathema FeMU and Lucina +spd/-luk is because I did not relish the idea of trying to get to the DLC chapter with a +mag/-def MU--in L+, the few points of difference in starting stats makes for an order of magnitude of difference in resets needed to get the level up stats/enemy skills I need to beat the map. Compared to a +mag/-def setup, I believe the only difference is that the +spd/-luk setup is unable to VV tank 64 res non-throne sorcerers in a no DLC run. Every other enemy either can be engaged by both or can be engaged by neither. Laurent I could've salvaged the +spd/-luk FeMU!Lucina by pairing her with a Ricken!Laurent instead. This would give a Lucina x Laurent (cannot take on boss sorcerer on wave 3) that has comparable killing power to Ricken!Laurent!Morgan x Maribelle!Lucina (cannot take on 99 hp, 50 res berserkers on wave 4) (neither setup can take the 99 hp, 55 res berserkers). But I decided that I preferred having AT on Laurent so I did not need to think about positioning in no-restriction runs. As a matter of fact, Ricken!Laurent could've gone with sorcerer, Hit +20, and 3/25 Waste tomes to give me more leeway in no-restriction runs. I decided against it. Morgan and Nah I decided to not use Einherjars. This means MU, Morgan, or Morgan's sibling needs to be a rally bot for Rally Spectrum. I chose a setup that would allow me to field 2 pairs with VV and 100% dual strike. It is possible, with certain builds, to have 100% DS and VV without DS+ (e.g. sniper Frederick!Yarne!Morgan (+skl/-def) x dark flier Lon'qu!Severa), but these builds are restrictive enough that they are really not significantly better than FeMU x Chrom. Plus they require All Stat +2, a skill that I do not have. The other rally bot needs pegasus for Rally Speed and Rally Move and valkyrie for Rally Resistance (this is useful against the Mire dark fliers on wave 4). I chose to give those to Nah rather than use Maribelle because I like the Morgan x Nah supports. The staff classes are for thematic reasons. Flying classes would have been better for positioning. Everybody else Has thematic builds. Noire and Owain are the only ones that are not promoted from their starting class. Owain is dread fighter because the class fits Mr. Don Quixote better. Noire is a sorcerer because I wanted her to be a dark magic user. I expect to use Chrom's family to carry everyone else should they fall short.
  14. 1. I dislike her immensely. 2. I dislike Yarne somewhat. 3. I have an extra male gen 2. 4. I see no point in fielding 7 gen 2 pairs.
  15. Does anyone care to comment on the strengths and weaknesses of my new setup? Gen 1 Chrom x FeMU (+spd/-luk) Ricken x Lissa Frederick x Cherche Vaike x Sully Stahl x Cordelia Gregor x Miriel Henry x Sumia Kellam x Olivia Lon'qu x Maribelle Donnel x Nowi Gaius x Tharja Gen 2 Laurent (sage) x Lucina (dark flier) Morgan (sage) x Nah (valkyrie) Owain (dread fighter) x Cynthia (dark flier) Gerome (wyvern lord) x Severa (bow knight) Inigo (hero) x Kjelle (general) Brady (sage0 x Noire (sorceror) Forever alone Virion Panne Libra
  16. Yarne is an idiot who worries about the sky falling. His worrying about Lon'qu cheating in Panne is perfectly in character.
  17. Limit Breaker, Sol. Just having these two skills will make Gerome perfectly capable on most maps, as a lead or as a support. For maps where extra actions matter (e.g. Future Past, Apotheosis), berserker is mainly a nice bonus, not a requirement.
  18. There is an additional problem to Lucina as support: She lacks AT and relies on the 20 use Celica's Gale. Using Lucina as the support has much more stringent requirements on positioning than FeMU!Lucina, because her weapon breaks more quickly than a 30 use brave or an AT backed weapon. Equipping Aggressor allows you to use player phase to attack the 99 hp, 64 def, 55 res berserkers. There are 3 of them, 1 as a boss on wave 4 and 2 as normal enemies during wave 5. A Galeforce user can sweep out both moving berserkers during player phase with the additional damage from Aggressor. This greatly reduces the damage threshold needed for enemy phase tanking. 45 (valkyrie)+10 (LB)+10 (rallies)+2 (tonic)+3 (pairup)+4 (sage pairup)=74, 0 damage from Mire. 44 (sorc) will need +1 res from mods. +mag/-def FeMU!Lucina has +1 res. This leaves the questions of whether a support sage allows 6 hit KO on the throne berserker, and whether you can achieve 100% hit rate. Damage: FeMU!Lucina effective mt as valkyrie at 1 hp (LB/V/V/DS+/Anathema): 131, 18 damage per hit on throne berserker Gregor!Owain mt as sage (LB/TF/AS+2/Mag+2/AT): 90, 16 damage per hit on throne berserker. Total: 100, just enough for 6 hit KO. This also works with Brady and Laurent. Hit rate: FeMU!Lucina as valkyrie: 69 skl, 68 luk=137 hit, 217 with base Celica. Needs 21 hit from forge for 100%. But this reduces damage below the necessary threshold. Fail. Sorcerer Lucina works because it has 3 mt of leeway. Donnel!Owain as sage: 66 skl, 71 luk=134 hit, 214 with base Celica. Needs 24 hit from forge for 100% hit. But this reduces damage below the necessary threshold. Fail. Gregor!Owain as sage: 69 skl, 67 luk=137 hit, 218 with base Celica. Needs 21 hit from forge for 100%. But this reduces damage below the necessary threshold. Fail. Gregor!Brady as sage: 71 skl, 68 luk=140 hit, 220 with base Celica. Needs 18 hit from forge for 100%. But this reduces damage below the necessary threshold. Fail. Gregor!Laurent as sage: 71 skl, 65 luk=139 hit, 219 with base Celica. Needs 19 hit from forge for 100%. Gregor!Laurent has 1 mt of leeway because Miriel has 1 more mag than Lissa and Maribelle. This works. You will note that I left out Rally Luck. This is because spectrum/heart/skl/mag/res fits on a single rally bot, and the goal is to minimize deployment count. Result: FeMU!Lucina (+mag/luk) sorcerer with LB/DS+/V/V/Anathema Gregor!Laurent sage with LB/TF/AS+2/mag+2/AT This pair can deal with everything on secret Apo except the wave 1 warriors. Necessary supports are 1 rally bot, 1 staffbot to pull the rally bot out of the way, and Chrom.
  19. You plan to use Laurent for VV: Cynthia as dark flier is acceptable, but sage is better because +6 skl (combined) and +2 mag on the support complements the setup better than high movement. You don't plan to use Laurent for VV: Cynthia as dark flier is fine, but Laurent should have a different father than Gregor.
  20. Design limitation: Inigo is married to Morgan or Nah. gen 1: Chrom x Sumia Lissa x Ricken Frederick x Panne Sully x Donnel Virion x Maribelle Stahl x Miriel Henry x Nowi Gaius x Tharja Cordelia x Lon'qu Gregor x Cherche Libra x Olivia gen 2: Lucina x Laurent MaMU x Severa (+skl/-def) Inigo x Morgan Brady x Nah Cynthia x Owain Kjelle x Yarne Noire x Gerome forever alone: Vaike Anna Say'ri Tiki Basilio Flavia Aversa Emmeryn Gangrel Walhart Yen'fay Priam Did I forget anyone?
  21. How to optimize Chrom and Lucina Use Chrom as hard support Chrom does not have impressive tools for the front, because he doesn't have Galeforce, Vantage, or Vengeance. He can be the front character for the second action because he has Aether and Luna, but that is not particularly impressive and does not take advantage of his rare strength of guaranteeing dual strike without double sniper/assassin. When Chrom is in front, the loss of 2 applications of Aggressor means his mean damage output isn't really higher than a Luna wife. Aether+RFK is a poor combo for 3 reasons: 1. It does not synergize with the guaranteed result theme DS+ offers. 2. It has lower mean damage than Aether+Luna. 3. It's not reliable even if we don't demand 100% results. The solution is to configure Chrom for hard support and give up using him in front. Use sniper or GK for support As a magic user, Chrom lacks Tomefaire, and dread fighter has a mag cap of 38. It's a very poor support class. Chrom's highest str class is GK, but he doesn't have any of the Faires, putting his mt at 48+other modifiers. Sniper with Bowfaire is at 46+other modifiers. GK has very low skl cap and will most likely need to run Hit +20 in the Bowfaire slot, and you don't give a skl bonus to the front character. Your choice is between +2-3 mt and +1 mov for GK or +5 skl for sniper. Personally, I prefer the sniper route because it improves the front character's accuracy. Use Chrom x FeMU As I mentioned before, your ability to kill during enemy phase is far higher than your ability to kill during player phase, provided that you can get a setup that is capable of killing during enemy phase. Chrom does not have very high support damage output, because he has only +1 str, +0 mag, and not much in the way of high str/mag classes or Faire access. This means it falls to his wife to have good front damage output. If you want reliable enemy phase combat with a low damage output support, then the front character has to run Vantage+Vengeance. That leaves only 1 wife: FeMU. Setup: Chrom: sniper, Brave Bow (5/15), LB/DS+/BF/AS+2/Agg FeMU: dark flier, Celica's Gale (5/15), LB/V/V/TF/<free> I prefer GF in the last slot. Enemies that this pair cannot kill: Enemy phase: 64 def/55 res berserkers, 70 def/46 res sniper (4 total, all round 5) Player phase: boss berserker (you can use this pair to kill the boss berserker if you wish. Just have Chrom use a range 3 bow) Because you have 4 enemies that you can't kill during enemy phase but can during player phase, I prefer running Aggressor and Galeforce over skills that would marginally improve VV. Effect this has on Lucina Lucina has access to VV and can lead. This leaves a few possibilities: 1. Lucina marries an AT user. This allows you to not worry about having your weapon break on you. 2. Lucina marries a high mod Gerome, Laurent, or Yarne. This allows you to have a pair that is comparable to Lucina x 3rd gen Morgan without committing Morgan to Lucina. Effect this has on the rest of your army You will have 1 gen 2 male who can't marry because FeMU married gen 1. This is fine. FeMU marries gen 2: You deploy up to 7 gen 2 pairs. You have 2 rally bots and 3 staff bots (+2 staff bots per combat pair you choose to skip). You have Chrom force deployed as a mobile convoy and possibly Olivia as a dancer for your best player phase pair. FeMU marries Chrom: You deploy up to 6 gen 2 pairs and Chrom x FeMU. You have 2 rally bots and 4 staff bots (+2 staff bots per combat pair you choose to skip). You have possibly Olivia as a dancer for your best player phase pair. Chrom is still available as a convoy. Chrom x FeMU means you have a better combat component because you have 2 pairs with VVDS+ (100% dual strike and 100% damage proc for guaranteed results). You also have a better support component because you can deploy 1 more staff bot (replacing Chrom). Other thoughts Regarding support bonuses, in general, +str/mag as a pair bonus is not as important as having a higher str/mag cap on the support character itself. This is because 1. brave effect allows the support character to attack twice as often as the front character and 2. dual strikes bypass pavise/aegis. Paladin is a poor class choice for Chrom because he can get better mt as a bow knight, which turns out to give similar damage on the pair. This means the higher skl/spd and mov bonus on the BK is better.
  22. Throne as 20 avd would be 90 hit, not 95 hit. Charm would only boost it to 95. If Morgan is used to satisfy a shortcoming, then versatility is no longer an advantage. Here is where Vantage alone is superior to VV: Drink elixir. Tank a hit. ORKO with 4 strikes. Back to below 50% hp with no loss of effectiveness.
  23. Ah yes, the classic fallacy of "more damage=more effective." But you've failed to address 3 points: 1. You are using Maribelle!Lucina as the support, which is less effective than Morgan as the support. 2. The narrowness of the pairing is irrelevant, because I proposed having Lucina lead specifically in answer to what makes the best Morgan. The best Morgan is unquestionably one that is married to Lucina. 3. You can't ORKO the throne berserker reliably with that setup. You must drop GF. (64*3+65)/2+30=158 43 (base)+3 (mod)+10 (LB)+10 (rally)+2 (tonic)+2 (AS+2)=68 skl 45 (base)+5 (mod)+10 (LB)+10 (rally)+2 (tonic)+2 (AS+2)=72 luk (68*3+72)/2+80 (Celica)+15 (forge)+5 (proficiency)=238 238-158=80 0.8^4=41% chance to ORKO,
  24. You vastly underestimate how the asymmetry of support vs lead benefit from stat mods affect Morgan x Lucina. Ricken!Laurent!Morgan (+mag/-def) sage support LB/TF/AS+2/Mag+2/AT 46 (base)+10 (mods)+10 (LB)+2 (AS+2)+2 (mag+2)+5 (TF)+10 (rallies)+2 (tonic)+4 (Celica)+5 (forge)+2 (proficiency)=98 mt Olivia!Lucina dark flier lead LB/V/DS+/AS+2/GF 42 (base)+1 (mods)+2 (AS+2)+10 (LB)+10 (rallies)+2 (tonic)+4 (Celica)+5 (forge)+2 (proficiency)+3 (pairup)+6 (sage pairup)=87 mt Lead character has a tome. Therefore, the most dangerous opponent is an Aegis+ target. The most durable moving enemy is the 99 hp, 55 res berserkers on wave 5. Lucina lead, Morgan support: 2*int(int((87-55)/2)/2)+4*(int(98-55)/2)=100, > 99 It's fairly straightforward. Your most powerful tool is DS+, because it guarantees a dual strike occurring. This lets you guarantee a result. You have 2 units with DS+: Chrom and Lucina. Chrom is a bad rally bot because he only has Rally Skill. He's a bad staff bot because he can't use staves. If you make Chrom marry a wife who is bad a combat, then he will be a mobile convoy. He's force deployed, so one of your slots is a force deployed mobile convoy. Using 2 with guaranteed results is better than using 1 unit with guaranteed results, because you can now use them to hold enemies in 2 directions instead of 1. You have 3 strong reasons pointing to this: Your starting point is to use both Chrom and Lucina as combat units.
  25. In Lunatic/L+ Spotpass battles, you exp and wexp gained for acting on enemies are reduced to 1 per action, before Paragon and Discipline. Exp and wexp gain for acting on allies remain normal (staff and dancing).
