  1. Dear translation/ patching team, is it possible for you guys to made a tutorial video on how to patch our game cartridge for dummies alongside the patch ?

Because I am afraid that most of us are not familiar with patching files and afraid that we might mess up our 3DS. Thanks.

I'm sure someone else will make one if our restoration patch goes as planned, looking from the interest in it. No one in our team really would care to make a tutorial, except for maybe Linkmstr.

  2. I'm sorry "thedude28" i'm new to being a member on the site and don't know how to privately message so i'm gonna post it here and hopefully you can help me out?

    1) Will this patch work with the new nintendo 3ds that i'm gonna get on the launch date

The next following questions i ask, i understand have hypothetical answers since the game isn't out yet and nobody has been able to test them so if you answer them can you tell me with "how much certainty" is your answer

Also i don't know if according to forum rules is what i'm asking taboo or looked down on, i'm honestly brand new to all this and i'm sorry if i'm asking what is suppose to be common knowledge

    2) Does the dual audio patch for the NA version of the game blanket everything? (nohr, hoshido, revealations, dlc, and side stuff)

    3) Does the amie patch interfere in any way with all the other aspects of the game? like will it mess up dlc or "downloaded" stuff not on the cartridge. i'm getting the collector's edition which comes with all 3 games on the cartridge (supposedly) and i already pre-ordered the dlc

    4) What about the original name patch? (same as question 3)

    5) How completed is the fan translated patch at this point and where does it not extend [the version that translates it for USA version without Nintendo's idea of what is appropriate for us]

    6) If 5 isn't 100%, without asking for a date, can we at least expect that at some unknown time, they'll complete it to 100% covering everything and re-release it?

    7) If i use the first 3 patches (audio, amie, and original name) and later decide, after the fan translation patch is completed to 100%, to download the fan translation, Will i be in danger of losing any save progress or anything at all patching my game up again?

    1. Depends on your firmware, for DLC. If you're over 10.3, you're out of luck right now.

    2. It blankets everything on-cart. Dlc is yet to be known.

    3. If you patch it right (assuming we figure out a way), no, it won't break anything.

    4. Basically 3.

    5. Read the OP. What do you mean by extend?

    6. It's coming, soon. Insert a trademark symbol here.

    7. Why you wouldn't back your saves up anyways is a question, but yes, you at least will lose the first page of saves. (Or not, I'm not sure about the specifics. You still should back up anyways).

  3. Will this work on a new 3ds ver 10.3 (us).

For the two main routes via hans. If you want everything, downgrade to 9.2.

So if I get the NA SE I won't have to worry about having IK as DLC (since it's included) and the restoration will eventually work with the NA SE to restore the audio to japanese voices (to undub it)?

That is, if IK is really on the cart. There is still a chance SE users would just have an early access code. And yes, the restoration is there. Read the op.

  4. As the administrator of the aforementioned fan creation team (Team If), and as someone who has 700+ hours in the game (and translated a fair bit of it)...

    Just get the game.

Even if we plan to restore your lost content, honestly the stuff they remove has a lot of stuff that a lot of people wouldn't even notice or use. I don't even have over 2 minutes in the skinship / Amie system, and even equipping a swimsuit is pretty pointless - except for the model viewer, you're never going to see it, unless you play against some team that has an armor-shredding item (in which, yes, the models actually lose their clothes).

  5. Thanks but still a bit confuzeled. So in the current patch DLC and a few things are not quite done yet right? And how would one go about buying Japanese DLC from US even with a CFW?

and the 3 paths thing, if i get to chapter 6 , the SE version gets to choose either of the 3 paths? (2 if i dont get dlc)

If I got Invisible Kingdom how do I get it move to computer to use your patcher? I think i read its alot harder then the main game?

    Read the op.

If you don't know standard hacking, don't bother even trying to region change to get the dlc.

And the SE comes with 2 paths preloaded and a download for the third path. You can choose any 3.

And let's not even bother with moving your IK to the computer, that is way beyond what you clearly can do.

  6. does that include the other paths? say I have the SE will everything be fine on that cartridge also would the voice over/name patches for DLC maps be disabled?

    >Does that include the other paths?

It depends on what version of the game you have. Some will have paths as dlc and others on-cart. You can only patch on-cart unless you're relatively more advanced at 3DS hacking.

And if you have an SE, yes, it's fine. The cart itself won't ever be modded.

Also, the name restoration will only work if you've actually watched that section, voiceover we'll have to look at it first. (Name changing isn't changing a root variable assigned to names, we're going through all the text files and changing them in-script manually).

  7. Hi, i am new here so I just want to start by thanking this team for their efforts. I abhor Nintendo USA for their arbitrary censorship and glad (although its taking a lot of work) to have the option to play it as it was intend.

I have some probably very straight forward questions I was hoping someone could answer.

I was able to get this game to work on my recently (but messed up a bit so got to do it again) CFW Old 3DS. But I used the wrong threads patcher (think it was 1.2) so this starts my first questions:

    1) Can I just swap out the patch and patcher data in the folder I did the patching and just "re patch" / Update the game with what ever is the latest Patch ? (currently 3.0)

    2) Is there any danger to Downloading Game updates via Nintendo for this game?

    3) I have a copy of the JP special edition, did I get the right one? I was positive it had both games but the menu makes it look like there is only 1 of 3? Has a buy paths option in opening menu. Does the Special Edition come with the 3rd downloaded story path or is that the DLC you refer too?

Bonus Question: Looked and am a bit confused

WILL it be possible to translate DLC? im seeing what I think are nos and some yes? will it require the English versions of the games? if so obviously dont need translation patch , but the content restoration stuff would be needed right?

    Thank you

    1. Yes. Back up your saves though. Iirc you'll lose the first page of saves.

    2. Don't do it, basically. (Although our patch was fixed to work with 1.1)

    3. Which menu? If its the Title Menu, well you only have one choice for the first 6 chapters. When you reach chapter 6 is when the choice appears. If you have two choices already without downloading anything, it's the SE. If you don't, it's not the SE, unless you downloaded it. (You can post a picture of your cart if you would like.)

And IK is DLC for If SE, it didn't come on the cart cause it was released several weeks after release.

B: Yes, it is. IK itself is dlc and we translated it. It doesn't require the English version of the games, and why would content restoration be needed?

  8. 1. Yeah, well...I did just get it :T

3a. Huh, I don't mean to be offensive here, but isn't this whole thread in a pretty legal gray area as it is?

3b. I should've phrased it better, especially since I forget a new person replies to me every time. But, also, I phrased it pretty badly in general, too. What I mean is:

    - If Fates does receive a restoration patch of lost content (etc)

3a. All fan-translations are (but we have contacts in Nintendo so lol whatever). There were some people here and on Gamefaqs that did prove its legality a while back.

3b. Well there's no reason dlc couldn't be added. We're only editing the script files, not the system files. It should work as normal, and dlc patching will require a custom cia as usual.

  9. 1. Well, that destroys the whole reason why I got Sky3DS.

3a. So, all I have to do now is go into the Internet browser and I get English IF? It's THAT simple? Wow, I could have saved a lot more money that way. But, if you use a physical copy of IF and patch it, how does that work? Does it permanently change the game into English or does it require you load up The Homebrew Channel every time you wish to play it that way?

3b. Assuming Fates itself will not receive a patch, according to a little salt I sensed from one of the developers, does that mean DLC is inevitably gone since you'd have to get IF to patch it? Given, you can not access other region eShop channels to get to the DLC if, say, you access it on a NA handheld.

    1. Lol. There's a lot more you can do, if you just read up a bit.

3a. You're new to the hacking scene, aren't you? Using browserhax will only get you into the Homebrew launcher (from which installing Menuhax is recommended, also just another entry point into Homebrew.) From there, you can use HANS to patch a physical copy of the game you have inserted. (We do NOT support piracy and won't tell you how either). And as it is, using HANS is exactly designed to patch a physical copy of If. You have to repatch it everytime. I'm not sure if HANS can patch a game loaded from Sky3DS, though. (You're seriously suggesting piracy and we don't stand for that).

3b. What are you even trying to say, lol. We're patching Fates with whatever lost content there was. And what do you mean, you have to get If to patch DLC? (Why would you even get the DLC if you didn't have If?) And you technically CAN access the Japanese eShop on a NA 3DS, but it requires a lot more in-depth hacking that your 3DS doesn't support and you clearly don't seem to have the skills to do so yet.

  10. Hello, I've been lurking around for some time and only just decided to create an account. Thank you to the team for the hardwork on the project :)

As one may expect, I came with a question. So, the background here is that I cleared the game in Japanese on my jp 3ds, but I got an eshop copy of the game due to a tight schedule at that time. I've been reading this topic and others for a while and I'm pretty sure that braindump would not be able to extract the romfs from my copy due to the 9.6 encryption in newer eshop downloaded games. I've also verified it on my own and while menuhax worked perfectly on my 3ds (currently firmware version 10.5) I was only greeted by a red screen when trying to run braindump, hence no romfs files.

My question is then to ask, are the extracted files from braindump technically the same across all versions- be it retail or eshop? Then, if I were to borrow a retail cartridge from a friend, run braindump on it, extract the files, run the remaining steps- return the cartridge; would it yield the same results? Or, if I were to somehow obtain the dumped files, drop it in my sd card containing my game and run the remaining steps on them, would it yield the same results?

On another note, not sure if you guys are still in need of translators, since the whole game's translation has been practically complete. But I could offer some help with translating the supports, if it's needed.

Thank you and have a good day.

edit: I also have another question- as mentioned above, I'm (unfortunately) on firmware 10.5, will the final patch be available for those above firmware 10.3? This is to help me consider if I should get a physical copy of feif instead, thanks.

For fw 10.5? Your only option is the homebrew HANS method, lol. Also, you can't really just drop it into the SD card containing your game, since your fw is higher than 9.2, so you don't have access to cfws or anything that you would need to play a modified rom. (Also uhh, having a physical cartridge makes this process a LOT simpler - I can't even remember if people have actually done it with downloaded versions, but I know our initial patcher didn't support it).

Well, we could use translators, but we're planning on scrubbing the rest of the supports. If you wanna do some, feel free to pm me...

The final patch? Depends on if you can use *hax or downgrade. That's not up to us.

Question about the restoration patches in the future. Will they be compatible with each other? For example, would I be able to patch amie restoration, Japanese dub restoration, and Japanese name restoration all at once?

The patcher will automatically determine which version of the game you have (or it should). We'll then release the patch files in little zip "packs." Whatever you want, you'll just need to unzip that and drop it into a folder that the patcher will pull drop. Any combination is viable.

  11. 1. Hmm, I see. By this point, it's cheaper than buying Cubic Ninja, though.

    2. That's really interesting. Though, if they're working on patching Fates, I wonder if it'd be easier to insert cut content into that or inserting English voices into IF.

    3. Well, loading ".3ds" files also works on Sky3DS and it has its own independent microSD slot so that you don't have to unscrew the back of the system every time. It's also a good method for the original 3DS.

    4. Someone told me that inserting the English cut-scenes (since subtitles would be impossible) and just leaving the in-game voices Japanese would not be a hard task to accomplish since it's just a matter of switching FMV files around.

    1. If you have Sky3DS why not just load Cubic Ninja onto that.

    2. Who knows, who cares? We're gonna patch Fates, not If, for this.

    3. Why would you have to unscrew the back of the system? Just use Browserhax or something and you'll be into the Homebrew launcher.

    4. Not FMV, it's a unique codec called moflex. We have a decoder right now, but not an encoder, so we can't subtitle the video and put it back in. Not to mention it MIGHT* be copyrighted content.
