  1. Concussions aren't cut and dry like most other "standard" injuries like a torn ACL or broken arm. Players have to consider their long term health. A guy like Junior Seau played the LB position at an incredibly high level for a very long time. Obviously his story is tragic but he's a tremendous case study in what happens when concussions are left untreated. EDIT: not to mention, concussions are more of an injury to the brain than the head
  2. Looks like Kuechly suffered another concussion. With his history of head injuries, this could easily be a multi-week injury. Also thank das lord for thanksgiving. Football all day, followed by the first Sunday I've had off of work in 2 months. I'm about to BINGE some football, people.
  3. I forgot to mention, Rex Ryan and the Bills training staff should be ashamed for letting LeSean attempt to play last week against Miami. I mean, come the fuck on. You've got a guy nursing a bum hamstring; not only that, but he has a long list of soft tissue injuries dating back to his days with the Eagles. And you're playing fucking MIAMI. Now he's not gonna play against the Patriots, who he's had success against in the past. Just embarrassing.
  4. Time to burn more money. chococoke's week 8 spread picks Last week: 2-1 Pats gave me a scare here before they pulled away late and covered the spread easily. The Jaguars were poopy, as expected, and I didn't pull off the sweep because the Falcons sucked. Overall: 3-3 Hmm, well it looks like I'm actually even so far (and actually up $3.50) I'll pick 4 games this week in order to make some solid dough. Jaguars @ Titans (-3) Again, I don't think the Jags are very good. For whatever reason, they never seem to be able to get everything to click. Patriots (-6) @ Bills Bills are trash and they'll play a trash game. Okay, seriously though, the Bills seem primed for a let down. I feel like Rex won't be able to control the team with a possible season sweep of New England on the line. The Patriots have too many weapons on offense and the offensive line is improved from last year (when the Pats put up 40 in Buffalo.) I'll bet my boys for the third straight week. Cardinals (+3) @ Panthers Honestly, the Panthers looks pretty bad right now. Their secondary is very questionable. Arizona's offense has been lagging pretty badly this season, but this could be a spot for them to get right. I also think Arizona's defense matches up well against Carolina's O. Vikings (-5) @ Bears Chicago blows. Hard. The Vikings' major weakness at O-line would actually matter if the Bears had some level of talent on defense. They do not, and I also believe whoever plays QB for them will be under siege all night. I'll take the Vikes in a blowout
  5. Uh, I wasn't talking about the Steelers' defense. Their philosophy is much different from the Pats' scheme I also already agreed that the Steelers win if Ben played Doesn't really matter if Blount would've done worse with Heyward playing. I was just explaining something simple (difference in passing yards) that you thought was shocking for whatever reason Also have you heard of game script? It basically dictates that teams winning late will run a lot to kill the clock, while teams trailing late will pass a lot to catch up. So... I fail to see your amazement at Jones throwing for more yards lol
  6. It's really not that surprising when you look at the game plans. Pats were letting Landry hit passes underneath all game long. Meanwhile, Blount was getting a bunch of looks in order to change things up on offense. In fact, the Patriots have employed this "bend, don't break" style of defense for the better part of the past decade. It worked yesterday, given that Pittsburgh totaled 375 yards on offense and scored 16 points.
  7. Brown looks fine. If Ben is playing this game Steelers are up at least 2 scores. It's been pretty sloppy all-around
  8. Geeeeez. Turning the ball over on your first offensive play is a good way to lose on the road. Maybe this is what I deserve for betting on my favorite team two weeks in a row
  9. Well, one of those backup QBs was Matt Flynn, who parlayed his one big start against the Pats into a contract with the Seahawks, where he was beaten out by rookie Russell Wilson and never started again. He did throw for like 400+ yards and 6 TDs in that game that made him so much money. I don't think Landry is any worse than Matt Flynn
  10. 'Twas a joke. All indicators point to a blowout and I don't see any way the Pats don't score at least 30. Of course, back up QBs have looked like hall of famers against our defense in the past so hopefully that trend is over
  11. Time to lose some more money chococoke's week 7 picks Last week's record: 1-2 Brutal start, as the Ravens almost covered and made me money. Fuckin OBJ. Eagles were dominated from start to finish and that bet looks pretty terrible in hindsight. Anyway, time to climb back into the green. Raiders (+1) @ Jaguars I just think the Raiders are a better overall team. The Jags have looked kinda poopy up to this point. I have absolutely 0 faith in this bet, what the hell am I doing. Chargers @ Falcons (-6.5) Atlanta's offense looks pretty good so far this year. They should've won last week (but got reffed,) which would have given them wins in Denver and Seattle in back to back weeks. Chargers are super injured and I think their defense will have trouble making plays. Patriots (-7) @ Steelers Yes, I decided to bet on this game. I hope the Pats lose 42-0 now.
  12. Yo fuck Goodell once again. Has anyone been following this Josh Brown shit? I'll sum it up for those who haven't: -Brown gets 1 game suspension during this past offseason after he was arrested for domestic abuse -This after NFL's "no more" campaign and new rules stating that domestic abuse punishments would START at 6 games (AKA Ray Rice fallout) -Reason for light punishment, per NFL, was that it was understood to be a "one time thing" -Today, Brown's arrest statements from this offseason were released, including him admitting he had repeatedly abused her in the past If ONLY they had concluded that he was "more probably than not" a domestic abuser, perhaps he would've received a stiffer punishment
  13. I love how Marvin Lewis came out and said Burfict shouldn't have even been fined. Ever wonder why you haven't won a playoff game, Marv? It helps to be able to control your own players
  14. Btw Burfict didn't get suspended. Roger Gooddell can lick my balls. Player safety, huh?
  15. I understand the need to run the ball to in order to set up play action, but I think that ultimately the Steelers will have their most success splitting Bell wide and using a fast-tempo attack to pick apart the Pats' secondary. The run defense this year has been incredibly stout, but if there's a serious weakness outside of the o-line (which qualifies as a weakness basically any given year) it's the secondary. They've given up intermediate-level passes quite a bit. Obviously Landry is inexperienced, but he's been in the system. He's gotta at least have all of the throws between the LOS and 17-18 yards downfield. With that in mind, I'm also watching our pass rush. They've been inconsistent at best to start the year. If Collins comes back healthy I expect a decent amount of blitzes up the middle from he and Hightower. The early line for that game is NE -7. Not sure if I'm confident enough to bet that.
  16. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=EvrJsIuwlyc No iron coq is gonna save your knee from some shit like that. Burfict also stepped on Blount's leg at the end of his game clinching TD run. I can only respect the man's commitment to the clown profession.
  17. The Bills' turnaround has been pretty impressive. Hopefully they won't keep it going but crazier things have happened. Also, Burfict is such a fucking scumbag it's insane. He needs to be banned for a year after diving at Marty Bennett's knee from behind. The dude is a clown who tries to intentionally injure players. Something's gotta give here
  18. Well, I managed to lose money on my spread bets. Guess I better pick better next week
  19. Just think, you could be 6-0 EDIT: Now that I have a little bit more disposable income, I've decided I'm going to burn money bet the spread on 3-4 NFL games per week for funsies and keep track of my progress. Let's see how terribly this goes. chococoke's week 6 picks: Bengals @ Patriots (-9): Bengals inspire no confidence honestly. Their offense looks pedestrian at best without Eifert (the fact that he's injured from last year's Pro Bowl is just so Bengals.) Patriots offense is good for 30ish per week provided the offensive line maintains some semblance of competency. y do i feel like i'll regret that pick Ravens (+3) @ Giants: Honestly, I don't like the Giants right now. Eli looks out of sorts and the whole offense has been dysfunctional at times. Ravens will finally mix up their play callings and my boy Mike Wallace will catch at least one bomb. Eagles (-2.5) @ R-words: I saw today that Jordan Reed hasn't passed concussion protocol yet. I'm a little iffy on this pick but it looks like Philly's defense is legit. Without Jordan Reed working the seams I think Cousins is in for a long afternoon.
  20. Sieieiemen is a very limited QB. Paxton at least has some arm talent EDIT: I'm gonna feel bad if I jinxed the Chargers
  21. Bosa is living the backfield. Also this Semen fellow sure looks overmatched. I wonder how much longer of a leash he'll get before they think about starting Lynch.
  22. I think Trestman was canned thanks to his lack of commitment to the run and passing game inefficiencies. Moar deep balls to Mike Wallace plz Also I think I like the Chargers tonight. Bosa is gonna go off on whatever jamoke the Broncos line up at RT
  23. The Vikings are looking like the class of the NFC. I'm interested to see how the AFC shakes out after a quarter of the season. The Broncos kind of scare me still. They DID win the Super Bowl last season with one of the worst QBs in the league. I honestly think their only downfall this year could be the shaky offensive line. Still, with the talent they have on defense, I'm thinking they may end up being the team to beat in the conference.
  24. I tell you what, the play Wentz just made with his feet was scary good. He looks legit
