  1. ^indeed. The worse mistake for me, is that I didn't even know that combat was turn based. I thought that it was like Pokemon or some shit. When Chrom got a 3% crit I thought it was because I entered a special command. You can flog me now.
  2. I'm gonna pretty much always find a use for Beruka and Kana on my Conquest team, Serra and Isadora on my Blazing Sword team, and Lute and Marisa on my Sacred Stones team, so yeah I'm definitely one of those guys.
  3. Gameplay: FE8. Mainly because the unit count is fairly small and every character can be useful, which I prefer. I like having a lot of characters, but some characters that I like may not have what I want or expect. Not the case here. Personality: FE13. Everyone felt different and had something I like. I don't hate a single character, but I wanted more out of the ones that I liked. I didn't feel that with a other games, except FE14, but there was more wanting of their stories to be developed.
  4. Gale from FE6. Dude's a bro and looks badass. Limestia from FE7 and the Reed family. Limestia was a puppet, but I usually like characters like that and her death quote implied that she had some sort of emotion. Caeacach? and Selena from FE8. Caellach I can see as a prepromote hero since he wasn't a boarderline evil guy; he just wanted high status and was dead set on it. Selena's a common trope, but I felt really bad at the start when encounters Myrrh. Plus having a prepromote Valkerie would be kickass. Pharos, Phila, and Musfasha from FE13. The latter two for obvious reasons, but Pharos I feel should have had status similar to the other two considering that she's a fortress guard, and she actually has a conversation with Excallus. I also like her design. Layla in FE14. That design is so cute. Y u tease us like this IS?
  5. +Skl/-Res Hero for my first run. Dragon fang/Sol procs and gamble/axebreaker in the lategame ftw. +Skl/-Res Paladin for my second current run. I'm getting speed screwed hard with Res as a bane. >.<
  6. Azura's hair color looks amazing on pretty much all of the female kids. Soliel's is my favorite with her color. Sophie looks nice with Hana's hair color surprisingly. Dwyer with black hair is cool. Midori's hair is a strange one to me, but I can't see with without blue hair for some reason. Maybe because her first mother was Peri. Kana looks amazing with every hair color, but I really warming up to Reina!Kana. Kiragi with black/brunette hair is so fitting that it should be canon. Shiro works best with black and brown too. Caeldori actually looks cooler with black/blue/white hair than with her canon hair color. Hisame rocks the ginger look. Mitama looks nice with any super light hair color like Azura's or Effie's. Asugi looks nice with black hair and strangely looks fitting with light pink or Sakura's hair. Rhajat I can only see with Black, white, or Orochi's purple. Any hair color looks nice on Selkie's as long as isn't blue. Blond Forrest for that Maribelle cosplay. Siegbert is another weird one, but maybe black or blond works best for him. Percy I honestly don't know. Nina looks nice with mostly colors that aren't a certain shade of blue or blonde. She works well as a redhead. Ophelia with Black Hair > Ophelia with Blond Hair. Screw Canon colors! Super Saiyan Soliel is awesome. Ignatius I see works well with blue or any dark shade of hair. He also works well with Beruka's Hair color too. Veloria with a dark hair color is mandatory. Anything too bright sticks out way too much.
  7. I actually forgot to finish with the other characters, so back to that! #45: Xander *Sigh*. He looks so cool. His sword is cool. His voice is cool. Everything is cool... until the main story comes along. Xander was the absolute WORST of all of the Nohr siblings in Birthright. I honestly can't go into much detail as others have, but he's generally a blind idiot who casts away Corrin for a very dumb reason and is the only one who stays on Garon's leash until the end. He didn't even respect his sister's dying wish, so why I should I give a fuck when he gives up and lets me kill him. Conquest... I honestly can't remember since I haven't really played it in awhile. He's more into his character in his supports, though, but in all 3 paths he's just intolerable. I don't wanna hate Xander, I really don't, but dear god did the writers drop the ball on him. #46: Asugi Gaius was always a meh character that gave Cynthia a cute hair color to me. Asugi's kinda the same, but with pretty interesting supports with Poopa Saizo. He's a jack of all trades as a unit though. #47: Shiro I really like his design. As a character, he's okay. Feeling like an underdog and whatnot My favorite support is with Asugi so far. He's an okay unit too, but dear god is getting him a pain in ass in the midgame. #48: Siegbert The only thing that stands out on Siegbert to me is his mullet, lol. Everything else is basic, from his color palette, to his armor, to his personality, to his usefulness as a unit, etc. I've never actually gotten Siegbert yet, because he seems one of the least worth it of all of the kids because of the assload of Cavs that you get, and other than his personal skill making him a good Hubby, nothing else makes him stands out. #49: Kiragi My Favorite male child. He's such a chipper little fellow with a simple design. I really like his hair, especially when it's black. He's kinda gimmicky with the whole hunter thing, but some supports are nice with it. I really like his interaction with Takumi, showing that he's a good son and that Takumi is a good father. He's okay as a unit, possibly better than his dad due to his PS. Too bad 2nd gens don't inherit the ability to use the divine weapons, cause Takumi would be benched for Kiragi if that was the case. #50: Forrest He's a sweetheart, and kinda badass. Although he doesn't wanna be 'Manly', his design consists of the mostly the manliest color ever: pink. Let's not forget the crit lines, and his insane magic growth. As a character, I like that he's intentionally crossdressing, unlike some other characters(Lucius could be best 'grill' ;~;). He reminds me of Maribelle, which is good thing. I haven't recruited him yet, but he's definitely gonna be a unit that I use. #51: Beruka She. Is. The. Best. Waifu. When I first saw her, I knew that I was gonna enjoy her, and I proud to say that my expectations were met and then some. I really like her design. The torso and boot design gives off a gloomy feeling that the Malig Knight class portrays. I've always had a thing for a short hair. I also really like the color of hair. I like her English voice. It seems just right for her appearance and her personality. Her personality I really enjoy. I've always found the 'sealed emotions' trope to be a very interesting character type and I find that it can be almost always be well done depending on the setting as well as the interactions with other characters. Beruka is one of those cases. Although she, like a lot of gimmick characters, focus a lot on that one gimmick most of the time, her supports show different ways of how she opens up. My personal favorite is her and odin's support where she asks him for a spell to give her emotions again. I also like the support with Selena. I really like her as a unit, too. She's not a super good unit, but she's very useful on both paths and can get the job. She has amazing skill, which is automatic yes for me. She absolutely wrecks shit as a Berserker. I am proud to say that Beruka is my favorite character in all of Fates. I really like her. I will protect her will all my ability. No one will hurt her when I'm on the scene. #52: Caeldori Hmmm... I never honestly found Cordelia to be that interesting. In fact, Cordelia is downright boring, imo. For some reason, imo , Caeldori is slighty more interesting even tho her design looks the most Copy Pasted out of the Awakening 2.0 kids. She eh as a unit for the same reason as Sigebert. #53: Sakura She's a cutie. I like her hair and her design. She's not really super memorable or interesting, imo. She has some story relevance to the point where you know what she does, but that's really it. She's an awesome unit, though. A good strength growth for a healer as well as good growths all around. She's possibly the most varied of all of the siblings with no true strength nor weakness. #54: Percy Not really much to say. His design is okay in Wyvern Lord form and having Pit's voice is kinda funny, but he's just a superhero fanboy personality wise. He has an useful personal skill, tho. Will do the rest tomorrow.
  8. Binding Blade had some kickass sprites and unique portraits. As well as having the most badass main antagonist boss theme and a bunch of good music in general.
  9. Sacred Stones: Enemies responding after leaving the tower. I think that being removed would've made grinding more tame.
  10. Generic Soldier: That rape face Generic Priestess: Look at this smug bitch Generic Maid: Best Grill
  11. Bumping for news... Been very busy irl, but I'm still working on this! Almost done with chapter 2. May be posted today or tomorrow.
  12. Never actually cried from any scenes, but there a few that made me feel bad, like
  13. I've only played the GBA games and the 3DS games, So I'm just going by the bonus units from Awakening: FE1(11): Marth - Gotta have the poster boy in there. FE2: Celica - I like her design FE3(12): Athena - I like her design FE4: Alteria - I like her design FE5: Leif - I like hi- you get the idea FE6: Percival - Haven't gotten him yet, but I've heard good things and he looks like a badass. FE7: Dart - We need that axe power yo. FE8: Lute - Best Mage in GBA as well as best girl in SS. FE9: Titania - Female Jeigan FTW FE10: Michiah - Mage Lord FTW FE13: Maribelle - Parasol-fu too op. FE14BR: Reina - Bloodthirsty woman riding a giant bird with a bow. What more could you ask for? FE14CQ: Beruka - She's my waifu. That's all. FE14RV: Azura - We need a dancer, but learn a new song plz.
  14. -A new styled Mario game. It seems like new Mario game styles that work with the systems turns out to be fun as hell, so seeing what the NX will come up with leaves me with excitement. -A Kirby game. I love SSU and I love Planet Robobot. I'd love to see what gimmick would be incorporated for the NX. Fingers crossed for combining powers to return. -A different kind of Mario RPG. Not just Paper Mario or Mario and Luigi, but new type of Mario RPG in general. -A super smash bros. game. I think it may kinda be unlikely, but I can still dream. If it does happen, I hope that it's made to appeal to the competitive side more without killing the casual side, since Smash 4 was good in terms of casual play, but not really that interesting in competitive play. Thought I do like watching Smash 4 competitive play. -A Fire Emblem fighting game or beat em up. It's possible now since FE's now considered a top IP by Nintendo.
  15. It all started with one phrase: "Onii-chan!"
  16. #38: Dwyer I strive to be as chill as Dwyer. He has cool design and I actually like his personality, being a lazy ass but a very competent servant. That one support where he says his manor of fighting involved senseless arm flailing, I can't remember who he was supporting, was funny as hell. He's kinda a gamble as a unit, imo. Has okay offense, but kinda bad defense at base. #39: Kaze He's okay, I guess, but kinda forgettable. I like green, so like his design and color by default. He's good personality wise, but really anything special. Though his support with Silas is one of my favorites, the soup part especially lol. He's fairly reliable as a unit. Good for support due to his Personal skill. #40: Azama All hail the biggest troll in FE history. Azama has some funny moments, but some infuriating moments, too. Although unlike Jakob, no one is safe, not even Corrin, so he's a mixed bag for me in that regard. He looks cool, though. Really like his hair. And he's good as a unit too. #40.5: Gunter A badass elder design. He just looks at you and you'll die. The war scars, his gray hair, the bulky armor and his own physique. This is a grandpa that you don't wanna fuck with. He's also cool as a character too. Unit wise, I'm not sure considering that after you get him you get Xander, but some people say that pairing him up with Corrin makes Corrin borderline OP. #41: Azura She's... a character I suppose? I do like her design and voice, but as a character... I honestly don't think I can defend her. She has some really bad moments in the story, and isn't really that interesting. The lack of pacing from Revelations doesn't help that either. I know that usually defend characters like Corrin, but I'm not sure if I can do that with Azura. She's a good unit though, and any child that she haves becomes an absolute monster in terms of offense. #42: Mozu She's so cute. Those freckles and that voice. And the villager idle stance just makes me wanna grab her and hold her in my arms, but I don't need to that when she's an archer tho. She's like Donnel without the pot, which I don't mind. As a unit, I like her because I like training units, and she's a good ally in Conquest. She gets outshined in the other paths, though. #42.5: Yukimura He's okay, but he could be better. He has a decent design, and calm voice. I don't really know what to call his personality. Haven't used him as unit, because I'm not dealing with leveling up 3 puppets. #43: Setsuna She's a cutie. I like her hair and the female archer's design in general. She's a good comic relief, but I honestly don't see her as a loyal type consider her... niche. She's kinda a guilty pleasure unit for me. She has a lot of bad growths, but has the best speed growth in the game. She's not really that useful after awhile though. #44: Soleil I like her. The white and black mercenary looks well on her, and I like her hair. As a character who likes cute things, she does well. As a bisexual, she could use some work(the Opheila C support was borderline creepy.). As a unit, she's okay I guess. I do think that she can be borderline OP, and apparently she is. #44.5: Reina Best waifu. I love her design, especially her facial features. I love her character, only really showing her dangerous side on the battlefield, but being a good helper off the battlefield, even though like Felicia she sucks at it. I will always use her cause Kishi Knights are awesome, and she herself makes for good striking unit.
  17. Considering that we have units like Sakura, Azama, and Jakob, seeing this again would definitely be possible. Also I'd fucking love to see clerics get unique animations for twacking people.
  18. Things like Corrin and everyone else not even getting a scratch from the explosion.
  19. Rhajat actually seem more nice and less grim than Tharja from what I've read. I also like the fact that she actually has a reason to be obsessed with the Avatar since (s)he actually saved her life. Asugi seems the same, but he has a nice support with Shiro and his parents. I honestly don't know about Caeldori.
  20. That's actually an interesting thing to think about. Revelation's story in general just seemed to be rushed from what I've seen. Still, I don't think that the path itself was the problem, but rather how much each path revealed about each. Conquest revealed the true big bad, but he's just treated as a mythical entity and no one really questions it. Birthright actually had the hooded man attack again, but that's the last time we see him or hear about him. Those two things alone could actually lead to some interesting side arcs. So, it could've worked out better in the long run if Revelations didn't exist, and it's an interesting discussion, but the main point of the thread is to point out ideas on how each could've work with three paths being a thing. I'm not dismissing your statement, though. That's actually a good point.
  21. I mean, I like Peri, don't get me wrong, but she's unstable. Maybe she mellows out when she has a kid?
  22. Hello, Serene's Forest! It's been, I think 6 months, since Fates has been released. As a game, it's pretty damn good, but this topic isn't meant for the gameplay. No, this topic is meant for the biggest criticism and complaint about Fates: the Characters and Story. When it comes to characters, the Fates' cast suffers from a lot things. Let's just list them all from what I've collected. Some characters suffer from: -little to no development or story time if said character is a side protagonist -barely gets any character development due to being a Corrinsexual -does very questionable and downright idiotic things -are just bland all around -too gimmicky -has a rage inducing gimmick -has a good story and concept, but goes nowhere -and more that I may not have seen/remember The story suffers from a lot of things too. -plot armor -plot devices that are only there to lengthen the story -many arcs and stories that feels more like filler -the main protagonist not learning anything -the way the starting chapters doesn't really give a real, logical reason to join Nohr -the Hoshido chapter being way too basic -the Nohr chapter having a good idea, but falling on its face with its execution -the Valla chapter having little to no pacing -and more that I may not have seen/remember These problems resulted in confusion, disappointment, and most of all, rage. So. Much. Rage. Like, there isn't one character that no one hates with a burning passion, and there isn't really a character that gets a lot praise as a character. In fact, the only characters that I don't see get a lot of shit is Niles, Takumi, Oboro, and Scarlet. The story is in the same boat. The flames still seem to burn hot, and might not go down anytime soon, so I think it would be a good idea to convert that energy into something positive and actually try to give ideas on how parts of the story, and the characters in general, can be improved and more likeable. One thing that I will give Fates, it had potential. Sooooooooo much potential. So instead of just beating on the all of the faults, we should instead give different ideas and discuss each upon each other. This is an obvious thing, but please try to be subtle. Like, no "[this character/story arc] should just be dead/not exist/can't be helped." And please try respect each other. I'm sure that you all are tired on harping on all the bad, so I really don't want this thread to go the shitter because the train of anger starts to leave the station. Now for my contribution: [spoiler=pre-branch of fate]Something that I've never really thought about was the starting chapters. The starting chapters actually creates some huge problems in all stories, as well as introduce some things that never go anywhere. The prologue is the better of the Fates' chapters, seeing that we actually get to see and understand the conflict that's to come. Chapter 1 is also good as well as is introduces the Nohr Siblings fairly well without giving out too much. Chapter 2... is when things start to get bad. The idea of Corrin having to fight to prove him(her)self to Garon is a good idea and the aftermath is good for the most part. The big problem with this is the Ganglari. The fact that Garon gives away where it comes from and what is does is a clear sign that the sword is gonna be part of a huge conflict. The chapter when he gets it is also too early. Garon's reaction could've been played a bit better too. Ganglari would've worked better if it was given to Corrin on chapter 3. Speaking of which, the whole scene with Garon laughing for no damn reason, at least from what I remember, is pointless. That certain part should've been Iago's introduction, talking to Garon about the recent events, but not giving out the plan that would lead to the Corrin being in Hoshido. After Elise and Corrin entered, Garon would decide to give Corrin another chance to redeem him(her)self by just scouting out the Bottomless Canyon. Before leaving, Iago would give Corrin the sword if a battle was to happen, and afterwards assign Hans to join him to 'protect' Corrin. Hans' backstory wouldn't be put out there thought, instead, Iago explains that Hans is just a crook who's turning a new leaf and wants to be soldier for the Nohrian army. Now Chapter 3 is fixed by a lot for this. Corrin sees the Hoshido guards and wants to talk to them, but Hans attacks one of the guards, saying that he was a treat to his safety and couldn't be trusted. Now Corrin is forced to fight and kill, shaken up by the result. Then when Saizo comes, his guilt gets the better of him and he can't retaliate and everything else afterward proceeds. Now for the bridge scene. The scenario with Hans killing Gunter now makes sense. After seeing his caretaker die in front of his eyes, Corrin is now borderline scared, as well as angry. Now the Dragon Blood start to kick in and he attacks without any control of his/her actions or conscience. Hans then says that this wasn't part of the plan, and Corrin comes to his/her senses when Hans starts to run off, Corrin not hearing what Hans said. The result of Corrin's Dragon Blood causes the Ganglari to react in a strange manor, and it forces Corrin to the Bottomless Canyon. Then Lilith shows up and takes Corrin to the astral plane. Lilith also explains that the amount of time that she can stay in Corrin's world is limited due to her lack of a human body, and won't be able to help Corrin in the battle that currently taking place in his world, which I don't think was never explained. Aftewards, Corrin gets knocked out by Rinkah when (s)he returns to his/her world. Chapter 4 has some good moments in it's introduction. I actually think that the castle scene is pretty tame. Although, hearing Kaze and Rinkah talk to Corrin for a bit before going to the castle would help out more with fleshing out their character a bit. Now for the Sakura and Hinoka scene. It actually took me watching Ghast plot review video to realized what was wrong with this scenario: Hinoka is on a fucking Pegasus. This would make more sense if Hinoka's Pegasus got injured and couldn't fly, and the injury would actually take awhile for Sakura to heal. In spite of the situation, Corrin is still hesitant to fight, but decides to fight after remembering what happened to Gunter. Everything else is fine in that regard. Now with Azura's introduction. The talk would be pretty much the same in regards to Hoshido and Nohr, but instead Corrin would try to defend Garon, but fails, resulting in a shaky first impression. Azura then sees the Ganglari, but Corrin leaves before she could say anything, so she says something that implies that she has a plan. Chapter 5 is also okay at first, but then gets bad at the emotional part. Corrin seeing Hoshido for the first time is good, although some parts can be added where Azura tries to warn Corrin, but Corrin is too distracted by the scenery and doesn't listen. When they arrive at the plaza and shit starts to go down there are a few things that can better. Since Corrin and company were not in the crowd, when the explosion happens, they can run and hide somewhere but still get injured due to the aftershock and maybe some shards hitting a few of them, leaving them with a huge health loss in the map. As for Mikoto dying, she uses her body as shield from most of the damage that Corrin could've taken, resulting in fatal injury and the rest of the scene, only Ryoma struggles harder to attack the hooded figure due to injury. When Corrin becomes a dragon, Azura then points out that he needs to be calmed down before he goes berserk, since his normal conscience is still in tact, which is the reason why he's attacking the invaders and not everyone else. After Azura sings to bring Corrin back to normal, instead of the Corrin gaining his/her memory completely, (s)he only remembers the parts where Sumeragi is dead, and Garon takes him/her. Since Azura confirmed that she actually knows something about Corrin's Dragon form, it now makes a bit more sense when she gives Corrin the Dragonstone.
  23. I can actually see that being a common thing if you don't like using Prepromotes like I do, and Beruka actually has some pretty damn good growths besides speed and strength. Hell, Beruka becomes a badass Berserker and out classes Arthur(she's just as tanky and doesn't have terrible luck) and Charlotte(she can take more hits and get more crits due to her high skill) on my playthrough. Peri would be a good example of a unit that can be good when favoritism that I admit will always try to level up. That Personal Skill and her high Strength and Speed is just too tempting. I even got her a level up on chapter 17 in Revelations. I also like Peri, so there's that.
  24. This is actually gonna be hard, but . Gold Tier Eirika Her design and personality just grew on me so much. She's just so kind and she's just hard to be angry with. She's not the best as a unit, but I can bypass that when she's such a lovely character. Even though she give Lyon the Sacred Stone... that was dumb. Hector He has his moments as a character, but not a lot. The main reason why I like him is... he's a badass unit. One of the best of in FE history. Not to mention that he made me love axe units and appreciate them more. Silver Tier Lyn Story wise, she had really great potential, being a native and finding out that you're Royalty. I like her personality and her design, and she's an awesome unit for a beginner, too. Though she's not as good as Hector, she can still outclass Eliwood if she gets lucky. I just wished that she didn't get a back seat for Eliwood, generic lord #51354. Ephaim He's awesome and confident, and looks pretty cool too. I like Eirika over him though since he has 'perfect syndrome' and no one can stand up to him, which is kinda boring. Corrin Honestly, Corrin gets waaaaay too overhated as a character. People hate Corrin because of how everyone in Fates sees him/her as someone with no faults, which leads to him making bad decisions, but I can't bring myself to hate a character brought down by others. He had... that word... Being someone who was sheltered all his life can lead to interesting scenes, but everyone around him just are just Yes Men that don't call him/her on her mistakes. I also like both default designs. Not gonna bring up his use as a unit, because he's a custom Avatar in a GBA game. Bronze Tier Roy He's kinda meh as a character. Couldn't really get into him. I do like his lord concept, but FE6's decisions could be amazing, or fall flat, and this was the case with Roy. His growths are just too 50/50, meaning that he can be good, supbar, or just plain bad. I don't think that he's the worst lord in FE history, but he's a challenge, to say the least. Chrom He's okay design wise, but meh everywhere else. Not a terrible unit, but not really good either. He's also so boring and standard as a character, too. Nothing really made him memorable for me other than his design. Lucina I feel the same way about her with Chrom, but Lucina is actually a better unit than Chrom, and I like her design better. She's just as flat as her chest. Super Bland Tier Eliwood Sigh. Eliwood is honestly the blandest of the Lords to me. His design isn't really nothing that stuck to me, tbh, and he doesn't really have a niche to him as unit, and can even turn out borderline useless. As a character, he's also too standard for his own good.
  25. LMAO I can now see Lilith being incorporated in this somehow.
