  1. Not between 2 characters... more like 'Choose a favourite from this class' or 'Choose a favourite from this continent'. With one vote against the entire roster (my compressed roster estimates the number of unique participants in the Heroes poll at 633), individual favourites like my own Ishtar, Florina and even Tana are quickly going to get eaten up, especially with the backing the 3DS era has amongst the new crowd, and the final results are going to wind up looking close enough to what we already have.
  2. Try being a fan of Jugdral or Magvel. At least Ike gets Smash representation. Yeah, I'd wonder how a poll focused on just trying to find the best of the best would go. I'd imagine that it'd have to have some kind of splitting into pieces, and even then...
  3. Well, at the very least, Glade and his 17 votes require at least 2 people to produce. And Lyn's score of 49,917 requires a minimum of 3840 voters (for reference, this number fits in between 75th and 76th in a poll of 791 participants), so there is at least that.
  4. So, I guess it's time to take a look and see what we got. Comment added via edit: You don't have to respond to everything. Considering the fact that I can't quite get the formatting to behave (or even fish the Mercenary/Myrmidon results out of the Lord sleeve), you'll have to have plenty of patience and time to try. Just remember the list goes in order of the polls themselves: *Lord **Mercenary/Myrmidon (I still don't know how I got them squished into Lord...) *Fighter/Bandit *Knight/Soldier *Archer *Cavalier *Thief *Mage *Monk/Shaman *Priest/Cleric/Troubadour *Pegasus/Wyvern Knight *Dancer *Shapeshifter *Trainee
  5. ...I am really jealous. I honestly don't know whether I can claim this or not...
  6. Actually, another idea that occurred to me- rewards for completing challenge runs. I've permitted Gilliam and Colm to die on a Sacred Stones run because I was doing an All-Girls challenge run at the time (Gilliam died in his recruitment chapter, Colm in the desert. Luckily, he hadn't done any salvaging yet). If the game offered some kind of incentive to do a run using a limited cast, you might feel OK about letting ineligible characters die. Of course, how the game measures 'having fulfilled the challenge' might be a little suspect, but it's an idea.
  7. Returning their stuff to the convoy might be a good one.
  8. Hm... I wonder how the game would react with you having to split your army between two forces. I think you might need a few more playable characters before that 'choose the characters' things is really feasible. Plus, you've gotta choose which characters get recruited on which route. The lore thing, I can totally get behind.
  9. This was an idea that occurred to me, vaguely inspired by something of warfare I learned from the Ranger's Apprentice series- some implementation of pikemen. The idea would be that pikemen would defend your rearline units, but would not advance on the enemy. Pikes might be a resource that takes up an inventory slot, but it could give the player a sigh of relief if they accidentally leave a hole in their defences. Not an indefinite sigh (now your army has to do something about your tactical error, and it wouldn't suffice for repeated errors), but one nonetheless. On the topic of unconventional weaponry, I wonder how balanced the idea of every unit being able to use any weapon, but if the weapon is not of the appropriate type or the weapon rank is too low, penalties to Hit, Dmg or even just plain Devil-Axe-esque backfiring would occur. If only for the sight of an enemy archer suddenly running in with an axe against a pegasus knight, and then completely botching the swing.
  10. I read that and think 'that is completely stupid', yet know this exact situation is far too likely. There was a review of Conquest that complained about the lack of between-chapter grinding and the game's difficulty when doing a challenge run. ...My prediction will be at least one reviewer will make this complaint. Hopefully there will be a reviewer that does not, and the buyers using the reviews as a tool to be informed will recognise the backlash the former will create in the comments section, and be directed to the latter.
  11. Some of this is actually giving me Advance Wars vibes, which is... not that bad, to be honest.
  12. There's an odd icon over my Jakob, Robin and Corrin, and it's preventing me from ditching the Jakob. Can anyone explain what it is and how I might remove it?
  13. Genealogy- on occasion, I feel as if the story takes a hit to support some gameplay mechanic. Genealogy lets the opposite happen. Thracia, too, to an extent, but I prefer the story content in Genealogy.
  14. ...For some reason, I like to isolate the Lords. Dunno why. A similar instance happened when Kana appeared with the dragons, but not Corrin.
  15. Not all soldiers are born ready for battle. Sometimes, you've got to whip them into shape with experience yourself! Trainees are typically villagers or kids, but Genealogy's take was 'princess who never actually fought before'- which, to be honest, is a more accurate depiction of the time period than other games having princesses that were among the best units in the game. Trainees tend to be rather weak in their base class, but growths, extra level ups and extra promotion gains tend to patch this if you're willing to put in the effort. Well, it looks like this one will be the final Class Favourite. I might let this settle after two days or so, and then make a thread highlighting some of the results. Still laughing at how long it took for Chrom to get a vote.
  16. If it helps, I'm definitely on the younger end of the site, yet have still enjoyed Fire Emblem (to some degree) for a few years. How many? I'm not really sure...
  17. ...Is this not Class Favourite 1? I'm not quite sure what you're suggesting...
  18. I don't know if this mechanic is in FE9 (if it was never intended to be in, then there's more evidence for an intended duology). Also, I think when you're selling a coin, you're just dropping it in the pile with the other coins to be spent. As for why only some coins can be used for Forging... er...
  19. I will never look at the name 'Midori' and not think of the annoying one. ...But yeah, that came to mind when poking around the Villager class.
  20. Oh, I did get it right second try? I suppose there are only so many ways to misspell a word until it stops being clear what you intended to say.
  21. Well, yeah, I was considering Lachiesis Lachesis Raquesis for similar reasons (and Master Knight was absent from Cavalier, for some reason). Don't worry, I will figure out how to spell Raquesis's name for the poll itself.
  22. All right, so we've had 13 lists so far, and as far as I'm aware, I've covered every major class throughout the series history, and most minor classes found themselves slotted in where appropriate. Some major classes have been merged where they maybe shouldn't have, but hey, at least there were reasons why. However- I know for sure that at least some classes have not received representation. The Villager, for one. I would like to ask the community at large what other classes have been overlooked, and whether or not there shoould be a Class Favourite 14 to cover them. Well, 13 days of the Heroes poll and 13 of these polls fit rather neatly, I suppose...
  23. Some units don't need weapons to fight, for they are weapons themselves. Manakete and their beast-like companions in the Modern era transform using special stones, which in most games are finite. As long as a unit holds a stone, they can transform and use their superior stats, but attack too many times and the stone breaks, losing its power and leaving the dragon unable to attack and with inferior defensive stats. The laguz of Tellius function differently. If they spend enough turns in their weakened, untransformed state (or use an item), they can then transform into their beast form and fight using their transformation time as their resource. The ability to transform indefinitely with weakened stats exists in both games, and the royal laguz have the ability to transform into their full power indefinitely. Xane's stunt is that he can transform into one of your units. Not strictly part of the theme everyone else has, but he's a shapeshifter and technically a manakete, so he's in. Whew, so it's relatively easy to tell why I decided to split today's list Beast/Bird/Dragon instead of Classic/Modern/Veteran, but I'll spell it out anyway- Tiki would fit in both Classic and Modern, and even if she was in Classic, that's four to how many units are in Veteran due to Tellius alone? Yeah, best split them up. And the herons showing up again even though they just showed up yesterday? Also to expand a roster that was lacking. Hopefully Rafiel has better luck today.
  24. I suppose. It didn't occur to me in Sacred Stones because of how easy it is to not worry about Ephraim until the final chapter (in which he steals the spot of one of the girls, who would otherwise perfectly fit in the 12 spaces allowed). And Hector mode has two exclusive characters who both happen to be girls. Granted, Karla is still not in her environment (Lyn outclasses her and is mandatory for endgame, while Karla requires I actively break the challenge to train Bartre... maybe in some other challenge), but with my luck with pegasus knights and the lack of slots that might otherwise be dedicated to class diversity, Farina is worth that gold.
  25. ...Yeah, I think meatshielding will be mandatory this time. Also, I don't think I'll be bothering with Chapter 13x. Merlinus early when I've got pack mules for days seems overkill, and unlike Sacred Stones, I don't think anyone can conceivably use axes... Oh, right, Isadora. I guess she doesn't need the Iron Axes.
