  1. It is possible? It's why I loved the swordmaster and assassin classes in older games so I hope dodge tanks are still around.
  2. The more options the better! Classic should stay imo
  3. I don't think having avatars works for creating a good story period as, since the avatar is meant to represent the player, you can't really give them a definitive personality and because of this they feel like empty shells of characters.
  4. I assume when you mean world building you mean stuff like chapter 11 of PoR where we see a port town of Crimea that directly shows the racism embedded in the country with how they attack Ranulf. They also posses a unique mind-set that "as long as those filthy sub humans don't come near us who cares who rules us?". Of course, they learn the errors of their ways when Daein rule is more oppressive that they realised. Another example of world building would be Begnion as a whole where it resembles a real country's issues and struggles...or is that wrong? So in other words... 1. Actively show the good/bad qualities of a country in chapters. If some of the population are selfish bigots then actually show this happening. 2. For each faction, have some sympathetic and truly evil characters in them. Begnion had (what looked like) a good senator (Sephiran) and bad senators (Oliver, Lekain, etc...). 3. Describe in detail how the wars affect the civilians and different members of the population.
  5. In other words, Emmeryn is just a flat out terrible leader. It's honestly hard to say exactly why awakening's story was inferior though other than "I didn't enjoy it as much" because it's been such a long time since I've played it
  6. What do you guys think a chapter needs in order for it to be good in your eyes?
  7. Magician-like Blacksmith except wields all 3 magic types and staves. Also gains the same skill as Blacksmiths. Specialist-Uses swords, bows, dark magic and staves. Shares the same skill as the Blacksmith and Magician.
  8. My favourite music in videogames in general is from Radiant Dawn. 'A grasping truth' and 'Tibarn's theme' come to mind whenever I think about good songs in videogames.
  9. I agree! Elincia's gambit is one of the best chapters in FE history imo. The multiple objectives, the huge amount of units on the field making it feel like the important battle it's supposed to be, Elincia's growth as a character, etc... all play a part in making the chapter very well done.
  10. I've just seen part of a walkthrough of chapter 10 out of curiosity and it seems there's a few things... 1. You have a time limit to get all those houses so it's as if there were bandits there already. I like that the game at least puts pressure on players to get everything...even though all of these types of design are ruined by the fact that you can still grind away your problems with DLC. It makes the lack of a world map pointless. 2. The battle convo with Corrin and Oboro is cringe worthy at best. They practically turn her "scary face" into just a lame joke! She doesn't appear threatening in any way...her stats are typical boss-tier though. 3. Beruka and Selena (I think that's their names) are angry at you for not remembering them....even though you never even knew they existed. I wish the game could let you mock or kill them! 4. The enemies have dumb AI. Instead of just rushing to the green areas in overwhelming numbers (on lunatic) they simply opt to attack your comrades instead. It's like they're TRYING to fail. Oh wait, the Pegasus knights do indeed do just that! Or....do they? I can't really tell. 5. Camilla is a tank. 6. It's good that enemies don't get to move on the turn that they respawn. I'll continue watching it to see if it gets better....
  11. Welcome to our little community friend. If you want to help others you could try and offer critique on their art and fangame projects...only if you feel up to it though. No pressure!
  12. Ah so for you it's the gameplay that attracts you. Is chapter 10 really so difficult? I've seen gameplay where you get INSANE loot from the villages...can the enemies stop you from getting that or is it always up for grabs?
  13. So what would you choose if you could someone skip either of the stories?
  14. I agree. It's more interesting when chapters have little side objectives like that isn't it.
  15. I agree. A bigger focus on Plegia, with some chapters introducing both good and selfish characters in each of the different factions...could've been a lot better than a clichéd 'goodie chrom vs baddie gangrel' plot. Even if they wanted to do a good vs evil plot it should've been built up far, FAR more with both wins and loses on either side-where neither side is significantly more powerful than the other. Now that you speak about Emmeryn that way, she sounds like a typical Mary sue- adored by the masses (except for bad guy gangrel) and can do absolutely no wrong whatsoever. I have VERY high hopes for conquest because of all the good things I've heard about it's gameplay. And I personally disagree that the stories of games aren't that important but I'll respect your opinions on the matter.
  16. It sounds as if the main problem was point 1 all along, the wanted to have a simple 'good vs evil' story and not anything morally complex. I think if they were going to do that then having corrin be legitimately evil in conquest and having IS treat him like a villain would've been better. Maybe choosing Nohr could act as a 'bad ending' of sorts They also could've had Garron not be cartoonish-ly evil and have his own reasons for fighting. Maybe the war could be about resources and how, since there's not enough to go around, people fight for the last resources available. This could make it more emotionally taxing as neither side wants to fight but they have to otherwise none will survive. Would that be better? They could even have a sad ending where some villain consumes all the remaining resources and, since everyone's going to die anyways now, everyone teams up to get revenge on this person. They then all die a horrible death of starvation later on.
  17. Fire emblem as a whole is a fanatstic game series and it's still doing fairly well today (though it could be better). Throughout the series there's been many chapters that stood out from the rest be it for gameplay or story reasons. Anyways, I thought I'd ask you guys what you thought was the best in the series for you. My vote goes to chapter 11 from PoR as it portrays the racism between the beorc (humans) and the laguz (shape shifters) pretty well. It also makes Crimea seem like not such a 100% good country as well as the towns people are more than happy to live under Daein rule as long as they take care of the "sub humans" (the shapeshifting laguz) in Ike's army. When they realise that Daein rule is too oppressive for their liking it's enjoyable seeing those scumbags break down as they realize that Daein rule treats them as slaves. The only issues are the BK appearing (and being able to move right after spawning which could easily kill you if in range) and Jill spawning (you have to avoid her massive range if you want her to live and become playable later on). All in all, I liked that chapter a lot!
  18. Oh ok. Thanks for letting me know. I won't worry about this thread anymore then.
  19. Did I do something wrong because it seems no one cares to post anything here anymore. Granted it could just be that no one cares anyone (which is fine) but I'm just wondering if I've annoyed anyone with what I've said...
  20. I would! I'm a complete nut for all FE stuff so sure, I'd give it a go!
  21. But yeah, stuff like that is why I'm going to be leaving the story to professional writers instead of inexperienced people like myself. I couldn't make a good story if I tried so I'm going to leave it to someone else. They MUST play Fire Emblem 4, 5, 9 and 10 so they'd understand perfectly these two things... 1. What those games succeeded at doing from a storytelling perspective. 2. How the games could improve from a storytelling perspective. In short, I want to make a FE game where players could proudly say things like "both the story and gameplay are fantastic" rather than with fates where it's more of a "gameplay's awesome but the story is meh". Of course, developing such a game will take an extremely long time and I don't even know if I'll ever do it. But, if I do it, I'll make sure to do it right. I'll take my time and use Kickstarter to hire only the best specialists for the job. People like Senri Kita might join if I'd somehow be able to pay her and contact her so there's that. Don't expect anything amazing anytime soon but, with more practice making sprites, I could eventually contribute something useful to society. Anyways, thank you for letting me pm you about stuff!
  22. The Black Knight should've just been pure evil and cunning...not sympathetic in any way. Zelgius should've revealed something like he hates everyone and that's why he followed Sephiran's orders to end all life (an emo's revenge). Maybe a tragic back story could explain his hatred for humanity. Not for the purpose of sympathising with him but to explain his actions throughout the games.. And is Greil teaching Zelgius ever addressed again? Tbh, have you got any advice on writing a good story like PoR? I need all the help I can get if I want to make a spiritual successor to these games...because God knows that Nintendo's never gonna do it.
  23. I'm sure the gameplay will compel me to finish it though it's disappointing to hear none the less.
