  1. This times about a million. So I actually had the chance to sit down for a minute and look at all the new mons, and tried to place them where I think they'll eventually end up. I actually tried to analyze them all and give some quick thoughts on each, though I only made it as far as the Tapu - mons with the analysis. I'll finish it eventually haha. They're just opinions of course but I do consider myself to have been pretty damn good at ORAS. I can't see myself playing Showdown until the bans start to hit though. Oh well, at least they didn't unban Deoxys this time! Someone should totally hit me up for some friendlies with more reasonable rules lol
  2. Could always use Vikavolt :p dunno if it's shit or not since the game just came out but it's at the very least unconventional. Slow Volt Switch is actually great in a lot of situations, and looking at showdown it has almost 150 base Special Attack which is hilarious. Speaking of slow Volt Switch, you could try Forretress as a dedicated spinner with a momentum grabbing move. Tentacruel + Rain Dish would also benefit from Rain. Showdown is totally playable if you do private matches by the way, just no ladder yet. EDIT: By the way, I didn't see that Leech Life is totally viable now. Go ahead and use that if you're going to use Golisopod. That's actually worthless, and this is coming from a guy that spent 95% of his Gen 6 playtime in NU. I can say with 100% confidence that this guy is going straight to PU; that skill is actually so bad I think my stomach just did a backflip. Do you at least get to choose who you switch into or is it random like Roar?
  3. I'm not sure how Golisopod's ability works :3 but I put my suggested changes in bold. I tried to keep your core team the same but my friend you could use some Mega-Swampert in your life. I say that because Rotom/Raikou/Zapdos run through you right now. I think I would recommend exchanging Golisopod for Megapert and Galvantula for Tapu Koko or Specs Vikavolt for RAW POWER another ground immunity, since Sticky Web does next to nothing for you. Suicune is the only one who might see a benefit, but everyone else is still way to slow. Also Sticky Web + Defog tends to not work out, in my experience.
  4. You make an excellent point haha, Chapter 7 quickly turned into Ballista Emblem. No joke though, I have 6 confirmed Archers so far this playthrough so if the game is gonna keep throwing them at me, I'll be happy to oblige I suppose! 4 more parts for everyone! All Links and Zeldas can be found in the OP. If you're enjoying this series I'd definitely recommend checking out the ol' youtube channel since I'm pretty much the Dorothy of updating these threads.
  5. Diggin the playthrough man. One thing you might want to know is that you can't actually get supports in Lyn mode; just thought I'd tell you before you spent 100+ turns grinding out on the last chapter :p It's interesting that you're thinking about Dorcas, I've always been more of a Bartre guy myself. You don't get Lyn mode EXP, but eh, at the very least he's entertaining. I think Erk's biggest problem though is that he decided to exist in the same game as Pent.
  6. Gen 1 + Kicked off a lifelong addiction for myself and what I assume to be most of us in this topic haha. - Mechanically, it's busted from everything to Psychic types, to crits being tied to your speed stat, to freaking WRAP Gen 2 + Improved in every way on Gen 1's groundwork with SpAtk/SpDef split, two new types to counter Psychics, and more variety. - Worst competitive meta in my mind. Stall anyone? Gen 3 + Strong single player campaign; although Gen 2 tried to do more Gen 3 felt more like a finished experience in my mind. - 7.8 etc etc Gen 4 + Arguably the most mechanically sound of all generations to this day. - Uhhh...hmm. I'll go with what someone else said about it being slow (in the literal sense), although Platinum fixed that if I'm remembering correctly. Gen 5 + Took everything in Gen 4 and ran with it, added a ton of postgame content with the PWT (probably my favorite Pokemon postgame despite it being straight fanservice haha), and topped it off with a story that actually makes a lot of sense. - Weather wars! Gen 6 + NU is really fun. - OU is not. Alternatively, that one time that Serperior was in NU for like a month when Contrary first got released.
  7. Sonic Advance 2 is pretty cool, I haven't played it in a while but combining a speedrun with a Sonic title makes a lot of sense to me haha. On a side note, I might be making assumptions but I feel that maybe people see the word challenge and jump to the conclusion that this is some sort of super try-hard challenge league or something. I just wanted to say, that if you're reading this and feel that maybe you don't have the "gaming skills" or whatever to jump into something like this, just do it! Look at my Super C run (a challenge I suggested no less!) and you'll see that it's not an ultra serious competition or anything, just a fun little distraction. Even if you don't feel confident enough to take the week, maybe just try out the games for yourself. You could be surprised! Even though I didn't end up submitting anything for the Kirby week, due to technical difficulties, I'm glad that I played the game because I had a blast just playing the game. Seriously, it was a "where has this game been all my life" situation haha. Don't be discouraged guys!
  8. Two more parts for you guys, and chapter 4 goes down. I start to really get crazy with the ballista in this one. Part 4 Part 5
  9. Part 19 is up, in which I count my chickens before they hatch and make a total ass of myself on the commentary track.
  10. This one might be a little old school for some, but on the Sega Genesis I had this awesome game called Comix Zone, and I've honestly never met anyone else who had played it. It's this classic style beat-em up game (think Streets of Rage) where instead of wandering through a city or whatever you get sucked into this comic book world that the main character Sketch Turner created, where shenanigary ensues. I loved this one so much as a kid, because it's one of those games that just oozes style. You're not going from screen to screen, you're hopping through panels. Enemies don't just appear on screen, the main villain (a character that Sketch created, no less) will pencil in bad guys into the scene for you to fight. The combat is fast paced and feels really good when you hit things because of over the top comicbook style effects that play. The soundtrack is rockin' in that really 90's Sega Genesis kind of way. You can collect various power-ups along the way, including a rat sidekick, which is just awesome. If you even casually like these kind of games, it's one of those games where you wonder how you could've missed out for so long; I still had my copy until it finally died on me about a year ago and everyone I convinced to try it absolutely loved it, even new school gamers. The only thing I can really say against it is that it's short, but most games were back then. It's pretty hard too, since that was pretty much the go-to way to get more gameplay time back in the day, but it's not the unfair kind of difficult, if that makes sense.
  11. This is embarrassing but I had not intended for continues to be used. HOWEVER since it's entirely my fault for lack of clarification any runs that use continues are totally valid in my book. That said here is my run for this week's challenge. If I happen to be the only one who's done this so far I would like for the challenge to officially be "No Continues", but if anyone has already submitted a run then I think it would be unfair to invalidate their work, so no biggie. These challenges are supposed to be fun after all, haha.
  12. Welcome to the site man, hope you stick around for a while! What is it that you like about Sacred Stones? That game gets a lot of heat sometimes but I really like that one too. Any other bands besides AC/DC that you're into?
  13. Part 3 has now been uploaded. Post commentary this time, since I lost the live track sadly. Anyways, we tackle Chapter 3 where already I start to feel that 15% extra growth on enemies.
  14. To this day I still wish they'd throw the Magicant stage back in the game. There were a few other 3DS exclusives too that I can't remember at the moment, but that's the one I really liked.
  15. It's been a while, so have 3 more videos. Part 17 - Zalmo's World Part 18 - Under the Stars Extra 1 - Seeing Stars I hope you didn't think I was kidding when I said this mod was hard! Part 18 was a pain to get a winning run for haha.
  16. Popping in to drop Part 2. Things are actually looking up after a pretty lackluster start. Of course, it's still Fire Emblem so who knows haha.
  17. Welcome to the site, from one relative newb to another! If you're into the stories in FE games Path of Radiance is probably right up your alley. It, along with Geneology (not for everyone, I actually kind of like it and can't bring myself to play through again haha) and Thracia are probably the best in the series, in terms of story. Maybe it's just that I have such a soft spot for Thracia, but maybe give that one a try before watching a playthrough? The story works so much better when you're actually in control, because it's a way more personal tale than the average FE. Path of Radiance is similar at first, but without spoiling anything ends up very grand in scale by the end. Thracia does have a bit of a reputation for being incredibly unfriendly to first timers though, and I can't deny that it's somewhat true. Maybe have a guide handy if you plan on giving it a go? If you beat Binding Blade it shouldn't be impossible! Also, mad respect for coming in with Awakening but still trying to go back to the roots. I wish more people would do that.
  18. 4 new videos for you all! In Part 6, we kill some bandits in the mountains for Chapter 5. Part 7 has us facing off against the traitorous Wagner in the easiest chapter yet. Parts 8, 9, and eventually 10 will have us going up against the dreaded Chapter 7. Man, I'm really starting to feel those increased growths, these Wyvern Knights are roided out and it's still so early in the campaign. [spoiler=All Videos] Part 1 - Raigh of Hope - Chapter 1 Part 2 - Raighdiant Dawn - Chapter 2 Part 3 - Raighzor's Edge - Chapter 3 Part 4 - Raighning Arrows [1] - Chapter 4 Part 5 - Raighning Arrows [2] - Chapter 4 Part 6 - Over the Mountain Raighnge - Chapter 5 Part 7 - Betraighal - Chapter 6 Part 8 - "Chapter 7" [1] - Chapter 7 Part 9 - "Chapter 7" [2] - Chapter 7 [spoiler=Our Elite Fighting Squad] Here's our crack team of randomized individuals FT. 19. Wanted to pop in and say that I wasn't intentionally trying to weenie out for this one, but for whatever reason I haven't been able to record SNES games properly for the past week or so. I tried to record for this one Sunday, but when I went back to the folder where I save my recordings, I noticed that this submission, along with all the SNES videos I'd been recording since my last session about a week ago (the only one I decided to mass record haha) I did for a playthrough were garbled beyond reason. And now, for whatever reason, both emulators I found that are compatible with my recording software only produce these corrupt looking recordings D: I haven't really had the time to sit down and take a good look at what's causing the issue yet, and admittedly I was kind of irritated by losing so much gameplay. For what it's worth, every submission so far has blown my would be run out of the water. In that sense, I guess it's saving you time so you guys don't have to review the footage :p
  20. Something else that I found very questionable was the fact that for the game that gives you the most units, the actual deployment counts on most of the maps is hilariously low. Seems like a huge missed opportunity to me. And as far as the gimmicks go, gimmicks aren't inherently a bad thing to have as long as they change up how I play the game in a meaningful way. Conquest is a pretty good example of gimmicks done correctly in my eyes, with only a few that I dislike. Revelation gimmicks are almost all some variation of "wasting your time" gimmicks that don't change how I approach the chapter at all. For example, in Conquest [spoiler=CQ spoilers]Let's just take the Eternal Stairway chapter as an example. Right from the beginning I'm thinking about what kinds of units will allow me to plow through the faceless and reach the top as soon as possible, so that I can finish up before I have exhausted my supply of dragon veins. You see, that's a gimmick that is good because assuming I'm not blitzing every chapter already, there are some serious and tangible consequences to how I choose to go about this chapter, and it's pretty clear that by going slow and steady I'll be at a huge disadvantage. Hinoka's chapter is another good example of a gimmick done correctly because again, I have to think about how I'm going to complete the chapter before it really even begins. where as in Revelation, 95% of the gimmicks just waste my time. It doesn't change anything about how I'm going to go about the chapter, it just takes forever. Waiting for the elevators (with the sole exception of [spoiler=Rev spoilers]Sumeragi's chapter, because it puts you on the wrong side of a chokepoint and therefore actually changes the way you play ) isn't, and never will be challenging. It's just boring. I'm still going to make the exact same moves I would if the moving platform wasn't there, it just takes a whole lot longer. It's not like you're being aggressively hunted down by flyers or anything like that, something that would put you at a disadvantage and make you think twice about who is going to go where. Instead, you're just travelling from floating platform to floating platform, and because there's no real threat or obstacle to overcome while you're actually on the platform, it just becomes an arbitrary roadblock that didn't need to be there at all. And 95% of Revelation plays out in this exact way, with the only real exceptions in my mind being the level that I listed above and the one that is similar to CQ 15, but with an entire army. That one gets a pass too.
  21. Part 16 has now been uploaded! Olan TOO strong. Good thing he's on our side! ...
  22. Oh I like it too, for a lot of the reasons you listed. I certainly like it more than The Gate of Lionel; even though it's a similar idea the Execution Site is...executed far better because of the terrain. Rydia killed it with her Oracle skillset in Golgorond, even if only for Silence Song, but Lionel Castle is very much a DPS race in my experience, which doesn't leave as much room for strategy. Speaking of, Part 15. It's been real, Chapter 2. I talk a little bit more about the design philosophy of this hack in this one, it might be worth checking out for those interested in this patch. I elaborate a fair bit and try not to spoil anything we haven't seen yet. You know, since I have damn near 40 minutes to do so because Queklain has a ton of HP. In the next one we most likely encounter the source of my frustration. Should be good.
  23. No worries man, no rush. What does worry me is the fact that I haven't played this game since I was about four and never owned it haha. Gonna need to make those practice runs count I guess.
  24. It depends on my reasons for quitting, really. If I feel that the game has totally went off the deep end with BS I'm not as inclined to finish it, though if I know it's just like one boss or something it really depends on how I felt about the game before that. Someone brought up Bravely Default which is the exact example I would use, to be honest. The game was fun, so I finished it even if the ending was very repetitive. The game was fun, so I finished it even if the ending was very repetitive. The game was fun, so I finished it even if the ending was very repetitive. The game was fun, so I finished it even if the ending was very repetitive. Otherwise, if I drop a game, I'm probably not that far into to begin with.
  25. Oh god, the final boss. I could probably go on for hours about all the things I didn't like about that, but she was 1) Lv99 and 2) I was a savescumming cheater back in the day so I probably wasn't all that skilled to begin with. No savestate nonsense now of course, but I'm still dreading Chapter 4, and I can only imagine how it's been updated. I'll be very interested to see if she's more tolerable than I remember. Glad to have more people watching though haha, we're getting to my favorite parts of the game [Ch2 End-Ch3/4 Beginning] here pretty soon. Also gonna drop Part 14, in which I take on Lolgorand. No seriously, 7 on 5?
