  1. Jumping in quite late here, but it is interesting to me that those of us play the Blue Lions route first generally dislike Edelgard from how it puts the blame of so much more of the bloodshed and trauma inflicted on Edelgard’s machinations verses her being a cog in a much bigger and nastier war machine that she’s trying to navigate out of in her own path. The pieces we BL players are missing slots Edelgard in a much worse position, but even knowing how her path goes, I think she went about everything the exact wrong way, though I totally understand WHY she did it her way. Despite having some sound justifications for wanting to unify Fodlan and wanting to remove the crests, she was unwilling to sacrifice herself for the greater good, despite being willing to sacrifice practically anything else for peace. She still wanted Adrestia to rule after seeing that wicked coup strip her family of power, and had resentment over the Kingdom and Alliance existing. Honestly, Edelgard’s probably the best part of Three Houses even if she’s completely villainous.
  2. Checked again, I was flat out mistaken. He uses the generic sniper costume in green. His outside of battle time skip clothes are his wyvern rider clothes. I think the whole deal with wyvern riders being flying archers now still hasn’t clicked. I’ll correct the post.
  3. Shoot, you learn as much about her motivations from inferring things in the library as you do from her actions in other paths. Dimitri, by the end, was willing to negotiate, too. Speaking of inferring, I get the feeling most players who happen to unlock Edel’s hidden path in the blind runs jump to Edel’s side because Rhea is conveniently terrifying just before those events.
  4. That more or less launches the whole point of the initial discussion out the window. Which route is cannon? None of them.
  5. Edelgard’s whole schtick is an “ends justify the means.” She straight up says she knows the hypocrisy behind declaring war to END bloodshed despite the damage the war will cause to unify Fodlan and destroy the church. Her power hungry nature makes perfect sense when you know about the coup that stripped power from her father for the nobles and her exile in Faerghas, and her decision to destroy the church was rooted in her desire return Adrestian rule to the whole continent after the church allowed it to break apart, twice. Even her conspiring with TWSITD was to gain an upper hand in the war. Just because Edel’s character and motivations are understandable and entertaining does not make her a hero or even anti-hero. She’s a megalomaniac convinced her version of Fodlan was superior and was going to create that by any means necessary. And we players have the option to help her. I think I just have an issue with the idea her route had less bloodshed when SHE DECLARED WAR in the first place. Mind you, while we argue over Edelgard, Dimitri only got away with being a murder hobo based entirely on the fact he was the prince. If he were ANYONE else, of any lower status than being the last of the Blaiddyd, he wouldn’t have been given any option to right his ways let alone had those around him try to help him through his schizophrenic outbursts. Like, damn.
  6. If they wanted it “fair” for all players, Blue Lions and Golden Deer should each get a short alt path option like the Black Eagles already have, but I think most people would prefer a prequel story.
  7. Can confirm Mercedes and Felix both change change in master classes as they use the generic Gremory and Mortal Savant outfits.
  8. I thought she was tailored for Assassin but I guess the Black Eagles lack a clear flyer unit, otherwise.
  9. He started going after Marianne immediately in my run of it, too. I recruited her to BL so my group was different, but my plan was to split my team in half and get Ingrid to her as fast as possible to help fight the boss. Ingrid had to meat shield Marianne while my team bumbled around the beasts. Eventually Marianne got north enough to get out of the boss’s range while Ashe and Ingrid chipped him down. I had to use pulse 6 times and I still doubt I’d have made it if it were for certain party members being over leveled.
  10. I can add a few of my recruits to this. Lorenz - Paladin Marianne - Bishop Lindhart - Bishop Dorothea - Warlock Cyril - Wyvern Rider* *I mistakenly thought he was a sniper and listed him as such.
  11. I want to do a male Byleth run for the church route to woo Rhea and am sitting on the game for the update as well. I do know Byleth has more lines in combat post time skip, but I just hope we don’t have to wait until the first expansion pass patch. You could play with Japanese voice dialogue on, too, if you don’t want to wait or play F!Byleth.
  12. Both BL and GR routes set up Claude leaving Fodlan to try to unite his homeland, handing the Alliance off to either Dimitri or Byleth depending on with one you are playing. (not sure of church route yet) I think THAT is the best path to make a sequel. To be honest, I sort of wish the truncated “join Edelgard” path with her brutally smashing the status quo and killing the majority of the cast in the name of imperialism and atheism when the other routes set up a united Fodlan with a reformed church had been the DLC side story. But the power of cute waifus and JRPG tropes are more powerful than off putting story progression. Edelgard is a great villain.
  13. I consider the Edelgard route as the bonus villain route, as well. It being so short and having a few extra steps to unlock puts it in an odd place. Edelgard so vehemently believed she was in the right and was just short of being sociopathic enough to not care about her companions that it reframes her actions as being as just as the others despite how brutal the other paths show her to be. What we dub the church route is the real Black Eagle route. Edelgard being in so much promo material just feels like the devs wanted more players to complete the BE route first, and they likely knew putting a cute girl up front would appeal to the weebier side of their audience. That said, I doubt any of the paths will be made “canon” at all. I expect the story DLC to be all prequel content or a few post chapters for all of them.
  14. My deal is I would've done half the stuff Treehouse did to Fates verses the stuff directly translated as close to verbatim as possible from the fan-translators. I'm still pretty freaked out by JP Saizo's skinship dialogue and Soleil, just Soleil in general. But then Awakening has Henry, who was entirely rewritten for English-language players, but ended up being a hit. Both Treehouse and 8-4 injected their attempts at levity where it was absent from the original, but neither were objectively "bad" localization jobs. I really think it comes down to how Three Houses is written. Awakening and Fates have tone issues.
  15. My conclusion with the ballot results is that the votes were why Ultimate has prioritized bringing old fighters back, since every fan poll done in that same time framw had Snake, Wolf, and the Ice Climbers in notable positions, and Smash 4 DLC brought back Mewtwo and Ness. (Poor Pichu, but Smash at least has the cutest of all joke fighters.) As for King K. Rool, who seemingly scored very high, there is a possibility that some legal red tape is muddying up his inclusion, since he was a Rare creation, and Rare is under Microsoft's developer umbrella now. Geno, another popular request, is in a similar situation with SquareEnix, except Cloud means his chances are improved. I've been seeimg that the lead for Final Fantasy XIV is in talks with Nintendo about the possibility of making a Switch version of the game. Y'shtola for Smash Ultimate DLC.
  16. I'm digging and all I'm seeing is a super dedicated 4Chan guy collecting data from all over and posting that. Removing Bayonetta, Inkling, Ridley, (so it looks like they were the ballot winners), and returning fighters like Snake and Wolf, and memes like Shrek, the winners were; King K. Rool, Isaac, Shovel Knight, Bandana Dee, Wonder Red, Chibi Robo, or Dixie Kong. Curiously, Bayonetta, who apparently won, is not placed highly on any unofficial list. Sakurai's focus on returning previously cut fighters looks to be a direct result from the ballot, too
  17. This was the case with the optional, hidden fighters Subspace I mentioned. It's been a decade, so I'm fuzzy, but both Wolf and Jigglypuff were behind secret doors waaaaay off the beaten paths and said doors didn't appear til after you beat Tabuu. Further, their AI was pre-set, so if you played on an easy difficulty, they would utterly blindside you. If you lost, you'd be kicked out of the fight and the door would be gone, and you'd need to leave and restart the area. It would be 10+ minutes between attempts, but the other option I knew was hundreds and hundreds of normal Smash battles, so Subspace was still a more appealing option. I ended up getting very good with Peach in Brawl because of how much I used her in Subspace, so by the time I had everyone unlocked, I was so accustomed to Peach, I never swapped mains. The lack of a mode like that in Smash 4 kinda ruined that game for me for a while, and I still hold that the 3DS Smash 4 was more enjoyable than WiiU because of how much better modes like Smash Run were at teaching the player and how other modes are formatted verses the WiiU counterpart.
  18. Subspace was great up until you got to characters that weren't required. Under no circumstance should Jigglypuff been that difficult to hunt down and defeat. Wolf was almost as bad, but it really hurts the character's appeal if you meed to be an exceptional player long before you ever unlock them.
  19. So, Lucina was chosen over Chrom because she's the first female sword user. I think the Ike simlarities go further than just muscle, since both fight with heavy handed and rough sword styles that have a bunch of flips... So, between having Chrom as an Ike clone. or Lucina as a Marth clone, I'd go with Lucina, too.
  20. He said both would be. My guess is each fighter will have multiple methods to earn them, but I also worry that few are going to be stupidly difficult or out of the way, like Jigglypuff was in Brawl. EDIT: Wow, ninja'd multiple times.
  21. Fair enough. I apologize. It was really a much smaller group of really hideous people, and I'm really taken aback by just how pointed the whole thing got. So, again, I apologize for being an asshole there. Anyway, that sort of wrecks certain other big Switch characters, too. But what about characters like Dillon, Layton, that karate guy from Rhythm Heaven or other 3DS based fighters? Their chances just rose.
  22. If Chrom does make it in as an Ike Echo, then I'd put Morgan in his place in Robin's Final Smash (Since children). If Grima is involved at all, then we're not playing the same Robin, so much of the dialogue would change.
  23. Ridley has the double duty of being a nod and actually being one of the only other Metroid franchise characters with a regular, reoccurring role. We have two Samus's because there really isn't another viable fighter from the franchise. I think Shadow is on the way. He would be easy to put in as an Echo, and Knuckles was shown as a new assist for Sonic instead. (Sonic Mania Plus is out in less than a month, so an announcement near a new Sonic release would be good for both companies. Also Space Colony ARK stage.) I thought of Octolings as an Inkling Echo, too, but 16 ink colors. Splatoon already handles the multitudes of combinations by limiting everything to strongly contrasting colors and having a color lock option for players with various kinds of color blindness. Can't do that with the way Smash5 is handling ink colors other than manually selecting costumes everyone playing can comfortably see. I've noticed partical effects are way simpler and clearer in this game than 4 or Brawl, so it looks like making things easy to read on the screen was considered. Anyway, I want more third party fighters, too. I keep asking for Tails, and I've seen a lot of love and requests for a Rhythm Heaven themed fighter. I think hitting up fighters from other big, storied franchises would be the way to go, like Dragon Quest.
