    Semicolons are for joining two independent clauses without a pause. A soft period, if you will. I believe what you have there is incorrect because of the 'and'. The tuba player is not the father.     It doesn't stop it from pre-downloading the embedded content but it doesn't render it until the spoiler is opened. In that sense it does help reduce browser lag if not internet lag by not "physically" rendering the video elements.
