Also, why do you guys dislike tactical voting (not sure if this is a stupid question but anyway)?

At the highest level, it comes down to the philosophical debate between "First Past the Post" voting systems versus "Preferential" ones. That, of course, is a highly political debate and can lead to some unpleasantness, as prior CYL events have shown.

Simplistically, say there's choice betweens candidates A, B, and C, where say, A gets 4 votes, B gets 3 votes and C gets 2 votes. However, both people who voted for C would rather have B than A, and would have voted for B if they had known C had no chance. Is it ultimately fairer to call A or B the overall winner?

There will never be unanimous agreement on this. Some people may steadfastly support one approach over the other from a purely principles-based standpoint, which is fair enough. However, people being people, many will often claim whatever approach results in their preferred candidate winning is the "objectively" correct one.

P.S. Consider that only 117 votes separated Corrin and Bernadetta last year. A tiny handful of voters could have easily flipped that result.

  2. So I've been mostly inactive and haven't actively summoned for anyone for a couple months, but the lure of unconditional extra mobility for infantry and armour (which I never shut up about not enjoying) was too big a draw for me not to have at least a token go. So I logged in to try to snipe the new Harmonic Igrene. (Igrene's the lead right? I'm not actually clear on that)

Regardless, whaddya know, they turned up on the 18th and 19th pulls. Both with rubbish natures: +Def -Atk and +Res -Spd, but while I'm sitting on both copies for now, there's probably a 90%+ change I'll end up merging them once I properly take stock of my barracks. That in itself probably won't happen until I play a bit more during the anniversary celebrations, which I'll be around for because I obviously could never say no to all the upcoming freebies.

P.S. Visually I'm liking them less and less now that I'm properly paying attention, but I guess such is the price of power. Altina still looks great after a second look but as a unit, a bog-standard 5-star non-Harmonic/Rearmed/whatever doesn't help me much at all

After Noire, I think the oldest standing might be Bruno (March 2019) and Wolt (July 2019) - am I forgetting anyone?

From 2019, besides the two you named there's also Greil (Feb), Dozla and Rolf (Oct).

EDIT: Some might argue Veronica qualifies as second oldest behind Noire I guess, Aug 2018. Depends how you view the Legendary version.

Where do they show Hawkeye?? (I mean, his weapon description, skills, art and whatever).

    His art is here

His skills were just added to the announcements following the reset just now. Ignis, Def/Res Ideal, Panic Ploy. Weapon is Tormod's except instead of Desperation, it grants Hexblade instead.

  5. Yeah, I can be as irritated as anyone regarding the preferential treatment given to Altina, but dang that art is great. Hawkeye is dang solid in more ways than one too. The rest I can take or leave (mostly leave to be honest). I will observe that Louise kinda looks like Cyndi Lauper here though.

As for the actual kits, the only thing that stood out to me was the Harmonic granting extra mobility. That's nice, vote her into AHR please?

P.S. I always thought Tormod sounded like a name they'd give to an old man, so imagine my surprise seeing it's a kid.

  6. Threw together a quick table just to easier visualise what's going on with the individual games versus the overall top 20. Apologies for the lack of formatting. Green is top 20 female, blue is top 20 male. Names in alphabetical order so don't get confused by names lower on the list being highlighted but the top ones not.

Caeda Berkut Caeda Ayra Finn Fae
Catria Delthea Clarisse Finn Leif Fir
Minerva Faye Katarina Ishtar Linoan Idunn
Navarre Mae Kris (M) Julia Mareeta Lilina
Tiki Rinea Tiki Sigurd Reinhardt Sophia

  7. Wasn't there a year where interim results were published after one day? Am I misremembering that?

Anyway, nothing hugely of interest for me in the top 20. If I had to choose between the listed characters, give me, uh, Robin and Corrin for CYL7 symmetry I guess, plus say, Lilina and Leif (both because of my use of them in Heroes as opposed to anything about their origin game).

For the "do not want" basket, let's say, Bernie, Yunaka, Alcryst, Lyon.

  8. I've already banished most of Engage from my memory (not hard, as there's precious little memorable about it), but it seems most folks reckon Ivy is the hot favourite and I'd have no complaints about that. I'd be significantly less chuffed with Yunaka being the other winner though, and same for Alcryst.

Actual wishlist would be something like Palla, Titania, Oscar, Duessel. I suppose if it's to be an Engage sweep I'd take *checks notes* ...Ivy, Citrinne, Louis and Zelkov. All purely theoretical though as I probably can't be bothered logging in daily to actually vote, and no one I'd vote for has the slightest chance in hell of doing anything. Especially after poor Desaix got ripped off last year.

  9. A long time ago, I thought Veronica might be the first 5-star exclusive unit I end up getting to +10. She turned up the very first week after the weekly Arena freebie pull was introduced. But she hasn't shown up since despite my prioritising grey orbs. Just as well that the Resplendent art isn't as good as the original then.

What are the odds of L!Corrin being on the Fates HoF or is it more likely to be Ryoma? (Actually he was earlier, wasn't he? I don't know when they're scheduled for reruns but he seems more likely now I think about it...)

Ryoma's next scheduled re-run matches up with the Fates HoF in February - refer to the chart here. Ryoma is the only Fates unit scheduled for February, but I suppose it's not impossible that either of the the Fates units scheduled for January (Corrin and Azura) get immediately run again the next month. Either way, we'll find out once this month's Remix banners go up.

  11. I've never particularly liked the Fallen banners, though obviously they're a decent source of good units given that it's sparkable for F2P players and all four units tend to come with complete, premium kits. However this advantage has been diluted in recent years by the introduction of the various new hero types that often salvage New Heroes banners which would otherwise be duds. Yes the new hero type appears on the Fallen banner too, but I'd say on average that just means the two best units on each banner are a tie in terms of power, but the remaining two Fallen units crush the bottom two units on a standard New Heroes banner (one being the usual "kit barely worthy of 5-star" unit, and the other being the demote).

Regardless though, on a more fundamental level the principle of "the same units but uglier" is a hard sell for me, especially given that the semi-canon forms the units take tend to mean they're of the same class as the original form. Making the banner seasonal would force some creativity by mandating a Duo/Harmonic Fallen unit be designed each year, but that alone doesn't feel like enough - the other three units on the banner would need to be wackier than they've traditionally been in order to have parity with other seasonal banners.

  12. EDIT: Just reformatted the whole thing to be less verbose.

Can't say no to a freebie. Nothing too exciting but in general, I actually managed to naturally pull my most wanted units all year. Of those I didn't get, I suppose I value highly mobile Duo and Harmonic units the most, the other such units and good player-phase solo units next, and third-choices are there for a variety of reasons. So I'll put the priorities in order of bold, regular and italic.

Red: Linde, Sanaki, Byleth, Nino, Fjorm
Blue: Seidr, Mark, Edelgard, Bernadetta, Say'ri
Green: Anna, Other Anna, Claude, Dimitri, Kvasir, Ursula, Leo
Grey: Kagero, Tiki, Ymir, Flayn, Yunaka

I think when it comes down to it, Red is high risk high reward, whereas something like Grey would be far safer. If I was actually active and going to use the units, going safe might be the go, but assuming I'm just loitering and picking up freebies, taking the risk is probably fine.
