  1. In the direction Fire Emblem's currently going classes are becoming less and less important and instead feels a lot more about min maxing to build some super units with no weaknesses by reclassing and grinding until you got the skill you wanted and then classing back into something different. Older Fire Emblem games also felt like they didn't do much to give classes their own strengths and weaknesses with some classes having lots of strengths and little weaknesses (cavaliers) and others having few strengths and many weaknesses (armors and archers). Honestly, if Fire Emblem keeps this direction your idea is something I would be more interested in because at least everyone can serve their own niche and essentially be their own unique class. Although I would much rather see Intelligent Systems go back to basics and restructure the classes with new benefits and handicaps and make each unit within those classes unique so that it feels like their is a reason to choose every class from now on.
  2. I haven't finished Thracia 776 but as far as I can tell there is no major downside to character specific promotions so I would be fine with it and it could add to the character of each unit.
  3. I don't believe its as cut and dry as that. If the interaction between two characters does something interesting for them or displays a different dynamic for them than normal I think it should be fine. The main thing that makes a support bad to me is when a character acts out of character for the sake of having a friendly support conversation with someone. I know @Otts486 is a fan of Peri and I'm not trying to pick a fight but that's the problem with the vast majority of Peri's supports; her support partner has to act out of character and completely condone the behavior of a big psychopathic toddler just so that the support can eventually end up in marriage or be funny. If Peri had supports that seriously looked into her past and didn't just try to be lighthearted I would find her supports to be better. So really what I value in supports is if the interaction between the characters is true to who they are and brings about something interesting like the dynamic between the two, their personal beliefs, their past etc.
  4. Slumber's meal analogy reminded me of the debate some youtubers have over which is worse Megaman X3 or X6. X3 is considered boring and bland by a lot while X6 is frustratingly designed and obnoxious despite having way more interesting ideas for the gameplay. the obvious answer is that I want something good, but if I have to make a choice I'd choose the bland thing that I can just forget about and move on to something else as opposed to the terrible thing with potential that has me sit there and waste time complaining about just how bad it is.
  5. Wary fighter is a skill made so units can tank better because they are at risk of taking less hits. How is it not useful on any unit that you are using as a tank?
  6. Wary fighter is a great skill for slower units since it means they no longer have to deal with getting doubled. It totally doesn’t deserve to be ranked as one of the worst skills.
  7. Personally, I just like the simplistic nature of a unit with a class and his own stats, growths, etc. and building the game around a bunch of units like that and none of the meta game nonsense that all the reclassify and skills brought about. I wasn’t the biggest fan of conquest because it felt like the game was almost impossible without using reclassing.
  8. I'm kind of curbing my expectations for the story of the next game. Awakening isn't the worst, but Fates is pretty awful, and while not as laughably bad Echoes still has plenty of jarring issues. At this point I'm hoping that the story is either serviceable or so bad that it's funny; it's just really hard to have faith in this series ability to make a good story with their recent track record. Echoes side cast was pretty much all that kept me engaged with how likable, down to earth or with just the bit of nuance they seemed to have within their few supports. Between the golden boy, Alm, Celica the mule (as in idiotically stubborn), and Rudolph with his ridiculous plan that could go wrong in a million different ways the main story was hard to care for. As I reached the end I couldn't help but wish Clive was my main character. I hope FE 16 will give us a decent supporting cast as well as decent leads.
  9. I want a villain who is just another person. Someone who could very reasonably be the main character, but has become the villain because you are not playing the game from their perspective. I would find it the most engaging if the main villain of the game could be someone who doesn't have some grand scheme, radical beliefs, a god complex, or god forbid another possession, but just some guy following orders from his superiors and is fighting for his family, friends, and country. You would have to fight him because there is no talking your way out of it because you would both be cogs in the machine (by the way the "lord" should also be a low ranking soldier with a few men under his command) with no real influence on the whole of the war. I've been thinking of how interesting it would be to just be the leader of a small force in a much bigger conflict and you and your men are forced to participate in dozens of battles as just one unit and the idea of a another elite enemy unit that you would come against time and again just feels really interesting to me.
  10. I would say a tie between Leif and Lucina (if she really counts). Leif lived his life being told he was a prince who was on the run in his own kingdom and watched loved ones sacrifice themselves for him in the hopes that he would one day rise up with a rebellion to save their home. Lucina watched her world be torn apart by monsters and a giant dragon god thing. They both were forced to fight what was ultimately a losing battle and could only stand strong in the face of adversity for their people until the real hero (Seliph for LEif and alternate past Chrom for Lucina) could come along and save the day.
  11. I like that Fire Emblem is more mainstream since that assures more games, but that mainstream has brought about the pandering and overly fan service heavy nature of more recent games. With Awakening it was fan service for long time fans with references, but with Fates it was with a self insert protagonist, weird face petting mechanics, really sexualized female characters, and a laughable excuse for a story. Echoes did some things better but the main characters had serious problems. In regards to gameplay I'm not too keen on a heavy skill focus as opposed to just simply units, stats, and maps. Fates (Conquest in particular) was insane about this and while it was challenging I personally prefer the more straight forward approach where the difficulty came out of building a map as opposed to strategically placed enemies with a series of skills to just annoy the player.
  12. Shadow Dragon may be my favorite, but the new mechanics and the difficulties don't work well at all. The game needs to be rebuilt from the ground up entirely.
  13. I agree with @MCProductions on Chrom, Alm, and Celica all having holy blood. Awakening was obviously referencing the Judgral games with the brand of the exalt and SOV's expansion on Grima and the brands of Duma and Mila on Alm and Celica seem like they are now trying to further tie the lore of the Archanean world together more closely (which makes a much stronger case for the next remakes being of FE 4 and 5, y'know just saying). Also, the idea was undoubtedly the same with Robin, as he and Grima are a reference to Julius (and Julia?) and Loptyr, so artificial dragon or not Grima was made from the blood of an actual dragon so Robin has major holy blood and his bloodline has holy blood in general.
  14. I would like a more modern setting, maybe something WW1-esque. I love that aesthetic in Valkyria Chronicles and recently playing through FF XV has made me think more about fantasy worlds that have progressed through time to have cars and the like, but magic is still a part of their every day society.
  15. I remember taking her down with a baron equipped with a hex shield I had Silque warp right next to Nuibaba. They took little damage from every thing that came their way and Nuibaba basically killed herself with the heavy cost of her magic and the huge amount of damage a baron could do in a single hit. Although if that doesn't work I would just slowly send your unit along the edge of the map out of attack range and try to take it that way.
  16. It always felt like Tharja was just the creepy, loner, stalker girl with a bad personality who also just so happened to be hot and because of that came off as a gag character to me. I didn't feel one way or the other about her when I played Awakening, but then she was actually really popular. I still don't really see what people love about her so much, but IS obviously saw an easy cash in with this kind of character and made Camilla. I think we should all just hope that the developers have learned their lesson and have decided to keep gratuitous fan service characters like Camilla and keep them in Heroes.
  17. I would expect everyone aside from Marth and Ike to be cut and for them to add in the FE 16 lord.
  18. If FE Switch hasn’t been shown yet it just means there isn’t anything of worth to show from what they have and if that’s he case I think it’s safe to assume it might not be coming out this year or, if we’re lucky at the very end of the year.
  19. A lot of the games mentioned here are coming out in the first half of this year so there may be some hope.
  20. I have to head to work right after the direct. So I guess I'm lucky, but I won't be a part of the immediate hype (or rage) on the forums after the fact.
  21. I remember hearing that the original story for Fates was written before they decided there would be three routes and after the decision was made they could not get the original writer back because he was busy so they just used elements of the original in Fates. That's how I've thought Fates story ended up the way it is, but I was wondering if you guys could inform if that's actually the truth of the matter.
  22. Since Fire Emblem is a series with permadeath its hard to justify a character who was playable and has "died" in gameplay is still around talking in the story. Some characters would just retreat if they died, and others would just straight up disappear from sequences thay would normally have lines in. The base conversations worked because there is no other point where those characters would talk since they aren't really important to the story. The only way to really fix the issue for story important characters would be to never make story important characters playable units. Maybe they could just be AI controlled?
  23. I kind of hope that's not what this game is going for since that just sounds like a slight variation on Genealogy and I'd rather that a new game do it's own thing instead of copying a previous premise.
  24. I'd actually be cool with more lore for the deadlords
  25. The theme being fallen soldiers gets my hopes up about a more mature story about war that will focus on the soldiers and how war affects them instead of some pure fantasy tale about felling dragons and evil gods. But, I'll try not to get my hopes up
