  1. In Pokemon Red, I wasted a bunch of Ultra Balls catching Rattata and named one of them "FART". Suffice to say, I ended up restarting that file.
  2. One of the perks of being a Pokemon Master.
  3. Moreso Pokemon Trainer. I could picture Ripto using Crush and Gulp as mounts, making them function more like Duck Hunt or Banjo & Kazooie, but then it also would feel appropriate for him to command them from the background a la Spyro 2's boss fights.
  4. See, the fun of this topic is that we can experiment with crazy "what if" scenarios where we can put any number of third-party fighters we want in Smash; it's not just about who we think will get in, but everyone we want to get in. For me, a series isn't properly repped in Smash until you have all of the A-listers and even some B-listers; single characters can't really capture the full beauty and appeal of a successful game or series (well, unless you're Mr. Game & Watch, I guess), and alternatives can bring their own cool gameplay gimmicks to Smash. Proto Man for example would be another fighter with a passive shield like Link or Hero, and a special weapon selection possibly distinct from that of Mega Man (he might even inherit some of Mega's weapons if you want to theme his moveset around, say, MM3, 5, and 10, the three games where he played the biggest role). Black Mage and White Mage could have targeting mechanics reminiscent of the classic FF titles that allow them to choose opponents or teammates to cast their spells at. N. Brio could have a meter that fills as he brews a mutation serum, and when it's full he can drink it to transform into the bigger, stronger Monster Brio for a short time. Smash is the only truly successful game of its kind (certainly the most successful by a considerable margin) with gameplay that's both flexible and accessible, so this is the best place to play third-party characters in crossover battles. Where else could you hope to one day witness a dream match between Knuckles the Echidna, Bentley the Yeti, and Crunch Bandicoot? Or a showdown between Bass and Omega to decide who is the world's strongest robot? I think arbitrarily limiting third party fighters is unfair as that makes first-party out to be more important when third-party is honestly just as important, not to mention popular. Nintendo may have the right to prioritize their own fighters over third party guests in their own game, but to do so would feel incredibly conceited, especially in light of the N64 and GCN's struggles due to lacking third-party support compared to the PS1, PS2, and XBox. It was one thing when Smash 64 and Melee were first party-only, but then those were products of a time when Nintendo was alienating many third-party developers (though the GCN did invite a lot more creative designs such as Gotcha Force and Final Fantasy: Crystal Chronicles, and thus helped restore some good will between Nintendo and TPDs which paid off in spades come the Wii). Sakurai, and Nintendo as a whole, have shown much respect for their third-party guests, so to me it would be all too fitting if Smash 6 did feature a lot more third-party fighters. Sonic is still considered Mario's greatest rival, if in a friendly manner now, so it would be a sign of respect from Nintendo to give him as many fighters as Mario (it helps that Sonic characters are crazy popular). And series like Mega Man and Final Fantasy certainly deserve a lot more than one or two reps, given their series' extensive histories, sequel counts, and varying styles and mechanics. I think the only reason we didn't see more third-parties this go-round is because of development time constraints; Nintendo certainly wants more third-party fighters in Smash, to the point they were willing to get the license for Banjo and Steve from fellow first-party company Microsoft. Come SSB6, I wouldn't be surprised if they push for even more third-party presence because they know that will excite fans and sell well. Are they likely to include everyone I've asked for in the next game? Obviously not. I certainly wouldn't expect them to, though I would be thrilled beyond words if they did. But if I personally had the opportunity, I would put all those third-party fighters in Smash to help fulfill mine and many other players' crossover fighter dream scenarios. And really, is wish fulfillment not the point of Smash? Of crossovers in general, in fact?
  5. Let's say you're approached by Sakurai and told you get to put any number of third-party fighters you want in Super Smash Bros. 6. The one catch is that they have to be video game-original characters from video game-original series. Who all would you put into Smash? I'm gonna go nuts with my selection, and I invite you all to do the same with yours, since it's all in the name of fun. For ease of browsing, I'll be sorting by company and series. The reason I would put in so many given the opportunity is because Sakurai himself has described Smash as a "celebration of video gaming". Third parties have played just as much of a role in the development of the video game industry as first parties, so it only feels fair to give them a larger volume of representation in Smash. There are plenty of first parties I'd add too, but that's outside the theme of this topic.
  6. Seeing that Bomberman has color variants like that really makes me wish he was playable as an actual fighter. He may not be quite as popular as Mega Man or Sonic, but his series is one of the established long-running classics. They could give him a novel moveset that revolves around placing, kicking, and throwing bombs, as well as using different types of bomb such as Remote Bombs or bombs that home in on targets like missiles.
  7. Currently, anyway. Nintendo always could update the infrastructure to support such a feature, just like they could in theory add new customizable fighters to Smash akin to the Mii Fighters, including new kinds of Mii Fighters. Here's hoping Smash 6 cranks fighter customization up to a whole new level, with not only customizable movesets or even fighter teams but also variable costumes and color palettes for every fighter. Imagine if Mario or Link were as customizable as the Miis. Mario did head-and-body costumes in Odyssey, and Link did him one better with head-body-leg pieces in BotW. Wouldn't it be oh so cool if Smash 6 could do that with virtually every fighter? With just eight costumes and eight preset color choices alone, you could have 64 different possible combinations per fighter, and if you can customize different parts of the body individually you can have even more than that. I'm telling you folks, Smash 6 is going to be the dream custom fighting game. Custom Fighters are going to be Smash 6's big hook, its main draw.
  8. S'alright. Back-and-forth banter with some wit. So long as you enjoyed writing it. They do like updating movesets in Smash, so maybe come Smash 6 Bowser Jr. will add the paintbrush to his? For that matter, maybe the Koopalings will be able to get their own movesets as separate fighters? I mean, it's cool that they were able to get in at all as Jr.s' variants, but come Smash 6, they'll be looking for new fighters with which to pad the roster, and the Koopalings are seven easy options. They all use magic scepters as their main weapons, and each also uses unique moves pulled from their various appearances. Lemmy could conjure a ball to ride around on and throw bombs, Morton could swing a hefty hammer, Roy could shoot Bullet Bills with a Bill Blaster, Wendy could ice skate and throw bouncing rings, etc. They could be a team fighter so as to only take up one roster slot, with a character select command mapped to Shield + Special, and they could have a shared Final Smash as team fighters tend to, likely involving all seven Koopalings attacking in tandem. In such a scenario, they would presumably also have a shared stage, Airship, perhaps with seven different aesthetic alternatives to reflect each Koopaling. Speaking of adding even more Mario fighters to Smash, I'd like to see Pauline and maybe Classic DK and DK Jr., to get all four of the classic arcade quad in there (though CDK and DKJ would technically be DK series reps.). I mean, Mario's already broken the unofficial Rule of Eight, so why not?
  9. So basically, this is the final boss Super Mario Sunshine should have had.
  10. I think I know what I want for Bowser's Final Smash in SSB6.
  11. On the one hand, it would be cool to see the Gym Leaders, Champions, etc. but on the other, a Pokemon Warriors game where the Pokemon themselves talk would also be cool. Maybe do both? One Pokemon Warriors with Trainers, and one without.
  12. Had this idea this morning: N. Brio from Crash Bandicoot. He'd be able to throw vials that explode or create blobs and mix a serum he can drink to transform into Monster Brio for a short time. He might be able to fly using a jetpack since they were featured in Crash 2 and Brio himself used one in Crash Bash. His Final Smash would of course be the laser from Crash 2's true ending. Brio catches his foes in a teleporter that sends them to the Cortex Vortex space station, then fires the laser at the station, destroying it. Basically K. Rool's Blast-o-Matic but with a different cinematic. I really want Brio in Smash now, along with Crash, Cortex, Coco, and a good number of other Crash characters. While I'm on a Crash kick, I got ideas for Pinstripe Potoroo as well. Obviously his N Special is his Tommy Gun. While you hold the button, Potoroo fires his Tommy Gun and can aim the gun in different directions. However, if you let the gun overheat, it'll jam, preventing Pinstripe from using it for a few seconds. For his D Special, Toxic Waste, Pinstripe calls Fat to throw a barrel as happens in the level of the same name. For his S Special, Pinstripe throws a Bowling Bomb that rolls along the ground and explodes when it hits something or when you press R. Pinstrip's U Special, Heavy Machinery, conjures a platform under his feet which lifts him upward for a brief bit before falling. Pinstripe can use Heavy Machinery up to three times before he needs to touch the ground again. You know, Ripto could work well as a tag-team with Crush and Gulp. Crush would be the most melee-oriented with his big club giving him superior reach and knockback. Gulp could use his big maw to swallow items or to bite down on opponents, slam and bury opponents with his girth, and shoot a rain of lightning orbs from his back-mounted cannons. Ripto's melee attacks would make up for their lower range and power with greater speed and multiple hits, giving him some combo potential. A lot of his attacks would reference his three orb spells: fire wave, plasma gas, and electric orbs.

  16. Boy, wouldn't it have been cool if they could have gotten Knights of the Round in there? Knights of the Round Type: Support (Attack) Class: ★★★★ Cost: ⬡⬡⬡ Skill: Weapon & Magic Attack ↑ ↑ Fighter: 3 × Link, 3 × Byleth, 3 × Robin, 3 × Ganondorf, Chrom Stage: Reset Bomb Forest Music: Fight On! Conditions The enemy's weapon and magic attacks are more powerful.
  17. The one problem with that is Mr. L is a Paper Mario concept, and so would work better as a costume for a Paper Luigi fighter (though there's nothing saying he couldn't be both). Dr. Luigi not only mirrors Mario's proposed Echo, he even has a basis now with his own game. Failing that, I'd suggest Gooigi who is actually a separate character, but even he would probably work better as a skin.
  18. Wolf Link, if Midna's included. WYR have Lara Croft or Joanna Dark?
  19. Brian from Quest 64, a game few people have played and fewer remember. Despite how short and shallow it was, Brian's selection of spells would make for an interesting moveset. Speaking of short and shallow (yet nevertheless fun) RPGs, Benjamin from Final Fantasy Mystic Quest. His moveset would include the sword, axe, claw, and bombs, as well as some White, Black, and Wizard Spells.
  20. At this point, Dr. Wily & Robot Masters would probably catch a lot of people off-guard, as evidently not many have thought of Wily leading a team Pokemon Trainer-style. But I think that'd be an ingenious way to not only include Wily by technicality but also to include some playable Robot Masters who, let's face it, are the true stars of the Classic Mega Man games. I mean, sure, Wily could be directly playable in his capsule or maybe a machine, but then you have three options for his moveset: Try to pull as much from the games as possible, which mostly amounts to a bunch of energy projectiles. Borrow some weapons from other bosses, such as the Robot Masters or Fortress bosses. Implement a lot of original moves, which kinda defeats the purpose when you have existing material to draw from. Way I see it, players would be more excited by the chance to play, say, Guts Man or Pharaoh Man than Wily himself. But Wily can still be included by way of the Final Smash using one of his Wily Machines to attack. And they could always add a Wily Machine boss fight to Smash to give the doc more presence.
