  1. The question is, how should beasts work though? If we were designing them from the start, then I'd suggest they be the counter part to dragons, with breath weapons being 2 distance and strikes being 1, like how Pavise and Aegis treats them in Awakening. But dragon stones have already been firmly implemented as one range weapon. The other option would be to make them colourless one range, but they've already shot that option in the foot with colourless breath units now being a thing. Maybe just make them vanilla coloured units like breaths and the weapons, but then what actually distinguishes them in terms of gameplay? Breath units all share the same weapon pool despite being different colours, while melee weapon users share individual weapons per pool, the only thing I can think of would be to make it so Strike Units can't change weapons at all. Which isn't actually all that exciting, you're just limiting things (even though not much weapon inheritance actually happens due to every usable unit having a superior prf). Maybe just port the transformation mechanic from Tellius? Doesn't seem like it'd work well with the small maps, short turn counts of Heroes, plus it'd be incongruous if you want to use the Awakening/Fates/Fomortiis units. I don't really see a simple and fateful way to implement beasts into the current system that would be both exciting, useful and distinct from existing units.
  2. Because there's no such thing as it being just there. If it's exist, then the game is built around it existing. If it isn't, then it's just poor game design. The only way reclassing can be implemented without making it a core aspect is if it's a fun bonuses DLC thing like in Shadows of Valentia. But to have wide spread reclassing like in Awakening, then the game needs to be built knowing the player can do that.
  3. -Leif looks a little weird in this artwork. Think it has something to do with his eyes. Light Sword has a cool effect, but I was really hoping for melee range magical attacks. -Olwen has a cool tome but...why? A green thunder tome? And it has nothing to do with her in game ability. It's a cool effect, I'd definitely like to pair it up with my Eirika if I draw her but...why? I didn't even think she was that popular a character for an alt, I thought Reinhardt outshined her completely. If it was the Holy Sword I'd understand, but instead we get another random PRF tome (wait, it is PRF right?). Why not give it to her counter part, Ilios? I was arguing in favor of Alts in the other thread, but this one I find to just be a bit needless. -Reinhardt, like I said, I think it would have been better if Olwen got the Holy Sword, but I can understand giving it to Reinhardt as he's the one that has it initially and he's popular enough to deserve an alt. -Nanna, probably the least interesting actually. Just another healer. Alts might not be interesting to some from a conceptual view point, but a character that in terms of gameplay is pretty indistinguishable from her mother his worse imo. Would have preferred they gave her the Earth Sword, a flimsy unit but one that can heal all damage dealt, is that not interesting (I know she has Absorb, but due to staff damage calculations, that's not much unless you upgrade it and even then it only heals half damage)? So I'm kind of disappointed in all the units, but the sum is somehow greater than the whole and I'm inexplicably satisfied because Thracia. Hallelujah Leif is finally here!
  4. So if you like more options, would you enjoy it if every character in the game had no class? They all came with E weapon proficiency in all weapon types but could use all weapon types, given you the opportunity to turn any character into any type of unit you desire? Let's take it one step further and remove growths, instead, every time a unit levels up you'd get three stat points to spend so you have complete control over whether a unit is gaining points in strength or speed etc. Character aesthetic could come in the form of a large variety of different costumes you can equip to each unit. I don't think that would be a particularly bad system, but I also think it gradually resembles what Fire Emblem is less and less.
  5. The Sword of Seals chapter absolutely was militarily strategic. It was a place that Bern wanted to keep and they send the bulk of their forces there to defend it, including their two best generals, Murdock and Galle. Roy also spent the preceding six chapters eliminating Bern's ally (no idea what happens to the other ally featured on the other route) to be in a position to fight, while Ephraim didn't even manage to liberate his own kingdom and only took down one general before fighting the emperor himself. He doesn't even defeat anyone noteworthy when he first lands in Bern, the boss of that chapter being a generic monster. I also see you're taking into account the chapters in which Ephraim fights Grado outside of Grado itself, which Roy also does during the Etrurira arc (and yes, they are Grado troops) once again taking down a significant general (Narcian). The number of chapters also aren't any kind of good indicator. Corrin in Birthright has the same problem of just walking into the enemy head quarters to win the war. It takes a bunch of chapters to do it, but its still them just walking in without any real impediment, winning just because they're the protagonist.
  6. A little less misleading than one of your previous moods, "Make Communism brutal again." I found that one so amusing, I messaged you about it.
  7. I think this could probably be merged with my existing thread. They're a bit similar in concept, might cause some confusion. You could just include the details on my thread like someone did for a hypothetical son of Say'ri.
  8. Haha. This one could be my absolute favorite suggested so far. He needs to have a battle conversation with every wyvern or manakete boss in the game.
  9. Gah! So you did. I guess I didn't realize since I call them Branched Promotions, rather than split.
  10. I can imagine him getting over excited about some kind of decoration or tool from his country that he completely misinterprets the usage of (like mistaking a fan for a table mat or something), with the support character trying to point out the ridiculous of the assumed use. I think I'd rather they weren't mounted and their enthusiasm comes primarily for that fact. Though you could get into Griffon Minerva territory if reclassing is a thing. One support could arise from actually rescuing an enemy mount, but then they feel like it's violating the horse (or pegasus or whatever's) rights by forcing it to fight against it's countrymen (countryhorses).
  11. Haha. I can just imagine their support pool being nothing but mounted units and the character in question paying more attention to the mount than the rider (flashbacks to Ilia at the start of Twilight Princess).
  12. Boo! I don't want a route split where I have to play the game twice to see what happens, and both routes sharing the same characters awkwardly being shoe horned into the story, instead o f naturally creating alternate characters. Give us a Gaiden route split instead, with free movement and unique characters between each route.
  13. Love em or hate em, characters with a single gimmick that makes up their personality are a part of the series, and while they've gotten more popular in recent years, they have been for a long time (Arden's slow and useless ha ha ha, how funny. He has no depth beyond that). And it's pretty understandable when you need to create 50+ playable characters game after game. So with that said, instead of wasting our breath complaining about character gimmicks, let's have some fun creating interesting or funny ones that you think can work well. Like here's one I just thought up as I'm writing this post, the provocative lesbian dancer. Most of her supports would focus on her outgoing and flirtatious personality with the male characters thinking they had a shot with her, only to realize it's not happening and why in the A support (but still satisfied to have found a friend). This would obviously not gel with a marriage/children support system...and I'm fine with that.
  14. Hmm. Let's see. -Characters -Gameplay -Graphics -A sound track -Writing These things don't necessarily have to be good or bad, but they do need to exist!
  15. Well considering the Americans didn't actually change anything of the political system when they rebelled, it wasn't even technically a revolution. They just changed the power base from a distant government to a local one. They didn't fight against monarch in the name of democracy, they just fought for freedom and then decided democracy was the best process to go once they got it. If they wanted to, they could have instigated Washington as presiding King of America and nobody would have batted an eye. Yeah, Israel certainly has a lot more going on than the typical country. Probably shouldn't have brought up the peace index at all. But likewise, because Israel is involved with the turbulent middle east, I don't think it's a great comparison to other countries that aren't in such a volatile situation.
  16. It's not about the civilians protesting on the streets, it's about them getting caught up in the actual warfare. Consider, if Etruria set up it's armies in the streets, then the battles would ultimately spill over into people's houses as forces retreat or advance. Both sides are going to use the terrain to their advantage, and the terrain in this case is where the people live. Make their homes a battlefield and there will be casualties. I won't argue that Roy has a bit of sue going on. In fact, while I like his near perfection, I think it does a great disservice to Merlinus as he's made a out to be a bit of an idiot just to make Roy look better. But what the OP did say is that Roy's competence and praise makes sense as it's supported more by the game and his back story. While the likes of Ephraim just win because they do. Even with Ephraim completely falls into an ambush or trap like in the Phantom Ship and following Port chapter, he just wins because he's Ephraim, while Roy generally wins because he set something up in advance. So yeah, Ephraim might be a tactical mastermind, because he does win all his battles, but the game gives us no real reason as to believe why he manages to do so based on his dialogue. Most of Ephraim's arc is arguing with Seth about compassion. Seth suggests doing something a bit more pragmatic, and then Ephraim says he won't abandon his emotion to become king, and just wins without the pragmatic approach without doing anything else that's particularly smart of noteworthy. He just sort of wins because it's a game and each chapter is designed to be beatable.
  17. Could possibly be because you have an avatar honoring Lenin on a website :P Also on the note of draft for everyone, it's the last kind of country I'd personally want to live in, but it does seem to work to some extent. Norway, Finland and Switzerland all have forced military drafts and are all among the safest countries in the world. On the other hand, there's plenty of other countries that have forced military drafts that absolutely aren't safe. As far as Israel goes, it does actually rank pretty low on the Global Peace Index, though that's more based on level of violence rather than level of crime, and Israel has that nasty Palestine situation.
  18. Not falling into traps shows that Roy has keen enough intelligence to realize where the traps are and how to avoid them, or even how to turn them around on their enemies, like how he forced Wagner to spring his trap early when he tried to prematurely leave. And yes, Yodel teamed up with Roy because of his own desires, but it's also clear that Roy sought aid from the church himself in an effort to reduce casualties on the streets. The conversation at the start of the chapter in question specifically has Roy thanking Yodel for that before even discovering that the church has other motives for helping him. He also doesn't blindly join the rebels, he approaches them to try and understand what exactly is going on and only joins them when he hears of the Etrunia corruption and labor camps. The difference between Roy and Ephraim is that Roy does all these additional things to secure himself and ensure his plans don't fail. While Ephraim just charges the enemy and his plans miraculously don't fail.
  19. Not really. Roy's main tactics involve prudence to avoid falling into traps, and relying on the help of allies to further strengthen his position. He knows he can't beat Bern at the start of the game, so he sets up a defensive base at castle Ostira to hold out until he can gain aid from Etrunia (not an actual chapter unfortunately) and one of his routes in the Western Isles involves teaming up with local rebels the gain success. He also manages to get the church on his side when retaking Etrunia in order to avoid putting the civilians at risk by fighting on the streets. He also seems to have a better information gathering network than typical lords, with a lot of information coming from locals, like the aforementioned Western Isle split and learning about Ain being a dragon, along with actual employed spies gathering information (like when finding out if Bern knows Fa is a dragon when she's captured), and by his own admission he has to learn everything about an enemy and understand exactly why they're fighting. The gameplay goals might not be very varied, but the game does fully support that Roy is a keen strategist with something being mentioned in his favor every few chapters or so. And one thing the gameplay does support, is that he can finish battles very swiftly, given that the requirement for the Gaidens are all turn count based.
  20. I'll give you Ike is a good tactician, even without Soren, but Ephraim's tactics all seem to be "Full frontal attack! It's so stupid, it's the last thing they'd expect!" Similarly I can't really recall Hector doing any strategy on his own. Though that's more down to his plot being about ambushes and assassinations rather than open war.
  21. I'd advocate disarming the police and the citizenry. Works for my country. Though obviously America is too far entrenched to do something like that overnight.
  22. Do a playthrough of Thracia where you kill Othin and a playthrough where you kill Safy and tell me the results. Not being snarky, actually curious to see the result.
  23. The only thing that matters is if you have fun playing the game (and you're not going bankrupt). The games perfectly playable without spending a single cent, if you want to you can spend money to get better stuff and if that is actively increasing your level of joy, the there's absolutely nothing wrong with that, so long as your spending within your means. Yeah it's more that possible to get addicted to these things and drain your back account in which case you should probably call it quits as it's not healthy or happy, but it's also more than possible to play it and only spend a bit of money or nothing at all and no one should be ashamed of that. (when I say you in this post I more mean you impersonal is one)
  24. Well, as someone suggested, I'd definitely be on for free trade between lovers and siblings.
