  1. Terrible news guys; I got sick. Because of that, there's a very real possibility that the Gaiden stream won't happen today. Sorry... If it DOES happen, it'll be at 9:00 P.M. (PST).
  2. THAT would be a Bigel. Those lil pests have their own version of the Messiah spell, where they can summon clones of themselves without spending a single point of HP! Fortunately, they're summoned clones can't ALSO use the Messiah spell; however, they don't immediately disappear when the caster does either.. So they're still more annoying than the shamans.
  3. Because "YamaGarden" looks and sounds more interesting than "Mt.Cemetry"; and Yama still MEANS mountain anyway. "Garden" would already be used for "NovaGarden", and the original Japanese name for "Mountain Cemetary" uses the same word for "Cemetary" as "Nova Cemetary". Besides, we've already GOT Japanese names in there anyway (for example, "Saizo", Doma, Mila and Shizas). What's a few more?
  4. Alright guys, we have now figured out the start time of the Gaiden RTA stream! Assuming nothing comes up for me, it will be Thursday 9:00 P.M. (Pacific Standard Time)! So for those of you who don't use Pacific Standard Time, be sure to figure out what that means for you (if you're interested). Have a nice day everyone, and God bless you!
  5. Btw, here's some name suggestions for fitting some of the longer names into the small spaces. I thought of some of these while thinking of how I would've handled a Gaiden localization had it been localized in the 1980's-1990's... Dread Fighter = Manslayer (or "Shinobi" or "Ninja" if you're feeling literal; that IS kind of what they look like) Priest = Acolyte (gender neutral this way; Celica is most definitely NOT a man!) Swordfighter = Hero Hero = Lord Nova Cemetary = NovaGarden (with "garden" being a real life euphamism for "cemetary") Doma'sGate = Doma's Eye (as far as I can tell, the original text translated to something more like "Doma's Crest", or "Doma's Insignia") Thief Shrine = ThiefHQ Mountain Cemetary = YamaGarden (with "Yama" being the Japanese word for "mountain") Mountain Shrine = YamaShrine Grove Village = Grove Town
  6. Hey Horace...how did you end up downloading those maps? I'm trying to use that site, but it's not letting me copy or paste anything on that site.
  7. Yessir, that I did. Thanks Valkama! Thanks to you, I ALSO took the liberty of fixing some OTHER errors in the other lists. Thank you so much, and God bless you!
  8. So! As some of you might know, I am actually going to stream a casual Fire Emblem Gaiden Speed Run in celebration of the remake! It will be done on Normal Mode, All Characters will be alive at the end of it, and all chests will be grabbed! To this end, I actually got the Excel document that the World Record holder himself uses! And guess what? His document includes, among other things, a complete list of enemies for almost every battle in the game! So since I had it almost all laid out for me, I decided "why not post it?". So here are the enemy stats in all their glory! 9. So, out of curiosity, has anyone tried testing out the new and improved guide yet?. By my estimation, I've cleaned up all the errors that plagued it before.
  10. Btw, my quick rating for Hannibal... ... He stinks. I cannot think of a single time where I have ever found him useful for anything, besides raising the EXP Rank.. Not even in my very first playthrough have I ever found a use for him. And that was the SAME playthrough in which I tried to make ARDAN viable! I threw the Leg Ring + Pursuit Ring + Speed Ring + Knight Ring on him, and wham; I got myself a pretty decent unit. That was a horrible waste of resources, obviously...but at least he was able to do something. He was great for taking on DracoKnights in Chapter 5, if nothing else. Hannibal, on the other hand...I'm not sure even that would save him. I mean, he'd do decent DPS...but "decent DPS" is almost an insult when compared to most other Gen 2 units. Aside from that, he's got nothing else. Even his defense is kind of garbage when you consider how much we hammered Altenna for her lack of RES. 1/10. I think I changed Ardan's rating from a 2/10 to a 1/10, thinking that there wouldn't be anyone worse coming along...but now I regret that decision >_<
  11. She always went full commando, really. It seems like the NoA censored that out with some black leggings, just like they censored her true age. Rather a bummer they didn't stick with that really...rather liked how they did it.
  12. Mainly it's the fact that it happened on the very first round, when the odds of that happening are... 0.57 (chance to crit with Sigurd's Skill) * 0.70 (chances of not activating Big Guard) * 0.57 (chance to crit with Sigurd's Skill) * 0.70 equals (chances of not activating Big Guard)...16%. It was such a low chance of happening, that it was all that more surprising when it actually did.
  13. Oh you DEFINITELY don't need an Uber Hero Sword for Langbart. I mean it's nice, but... Turns out, Sigurd's just fine either way. No joke; this actually happened on my AAAA Ranked Run. And with just 85 Kills
  14. Well, that's it! I FINALLY updated the Chapter 10 strat, and finally figured out what was throwing everything off! It seems Ruadath was right! Chapters 5, 6, and 8 all had moments where Lyn and Co. would move around on the map right as those chapters began. Unbenknowst to me, there were RN's being burned every time that happened! So THAT'S what was throwing things off! So I included instructions for how to avoid that at the beginning of those Chapters!
  15. Yeah, I noticed little idiosyncacies like that while playing through again. So I actually updated the guide recently to correct those sorts of errors. I haven't gotten to Chapter 10 yet, but I redid all the others; so go check it out if you wish :) !
  16. You know Jotari...you've helped me to look at the maps in a new light. I too was in the "lol, Gaiden maps suck" category, but you've helped me to rethink some of my preconceived notions. That point about the way all maps are about "killing all enemies" instead of "seize the castle" was especially insightful; I loved how you pointed that out. ...That said however...I feel like there are still problem with all these examples, Jotari, is that one has almost no control over which units go in which slots unless you use the maps that Horace provided. The unit selection system here isn't quite as bad as it was in FE1, but it still makes it significantly harder to actually form any sort of strategy. The game just throws you into deserts and forests and bogs; there's no way you can possibly be prepared to deal with the terrain until it's too late. The only map I can think of that's properly designed to address that is, ironically enough, the Dragon Zombie ambush map. Yes, it becomes hellacious when you go through it the 2nd and 3rd times, but it at least throws you a soft ball in the 1st map. This gives you ample time to tag your strong units into the 11-15th slots before the challenge REALLY escalates. And...do all the maps really need to be so large? For example, the Desert map that Horace brought up; what would we have lost by reducing the map's height to about 75% it's original height? Why do we need to have our foot units slog through sand for 5-10 Turns before they can even fight anything? The accuracy issues Horace mentioned is also a problem. I get what you mean in terms of forcing you to have to be careful, but...the problem is that there's no way to really guarantee anything working right. You can theoretically try to set things up so that your strats are slow, but 100% safe...but guess what? You don't always get that luxury. For example, the Dragon Zombie map in Chapter 2; Angel!Celica is just about the only way to deal with that guy, and her hits are...80% accurate? And she's also fragile enough to get 2HKOed. So what's my fail safe for if she misses two Angel spells? I GUESS I could have Jenny spam Illusion, but most new players aren't going to know that such a spell exists. It it is a brain dead simple map, and yet, there's not really any 100% safe way of dealing with that map; not unless you already know the game ahead of time. That is an INFURIATING combination of qualities to have in what's supposed to be a Strategy Game. So really, I think the issue is that the polish just isn't there. It's kind of like Mega Man X5 that way; you had game designers that clearly had all see really awesome ideas, and wanted to push the NES as far as it would go. But unfortunately, it doesn't seem as though they really play tested any of the ideas that they threw in there; not as they ought to have, anyway. The maps are mostly decent, for all the reasons you mentioned...but all of them are held back by these infuriating little things that keep you from fully enjoying the experience. Or at least, that's my perspective. What do you think Jotari? I'm interested in hearing more of your thoughts.
  17. Meanwhile, Normal Mode is a Socialist hell-hole; everyone has to work twice as hard for the same goods >_< ...
  18. ------------------------------------------------------- Nico Live RTA Wiki: http://niconamarta.sakura.ne.jp/ (This site here is a Japanese wiki that lists RTA runs for every kind of game under the sun. This is the place I go when I can't find any English speedruns of a game I like. So I found the relevant section on Fire Emblem Gaiden...) http://niconamarta.sakura.ne.jp/ (which led to this guy's homepage on Nico Nico Douga; basically the Japanese equivalent of Youtube, but with a lot of arbitrary restrictions) http://com.nicovideo.jp/community/co2480856 (This guy's page had links to some sort of website where he stored his notes for anyone who knew the proper passcode. DO NOT CLICK ON ANY OF THEM THOUGH!! The site contains a lot of very, VERY NSFW, pornographic images that more or less reinforced all the negative stereotypes I've learned about Japan and sexuality. I tried to download his notes on Gaiden, but did not know the proper passcode. This...is where my quest almost ended, as I did not want to interact with that site's...contents...any more than I had to. But, fortunately, I managed to find what seemed to be his Twitter account)... https://twitter.com/aki_yabo (But then it turned out that that was a mere bot. I don't know WHY the guy set up an automated Twitter account, but, my quest almost ended there as well. I went on a long and fruitless search for the right passcode to his notes, but, that too went up in smoke. But then I thought to Tweet one of his FOLLOWERS instead. You see, I happened to take Japanese 1. I had JUST enough knowledge of Japanese to ask questions that were legible enough to be understood. So I asked this guy if he knew how to access those notes; he then found the guy's REAL Twitter account, which was found here...) https://twitter.com/natsuyabo (At first, I was going to just ask him any questions I may have had rather than continue pestering him for his notes; it seemed as though he was hesitant about sharing them. But, then Heulen Wolf went out of his way to find an alternative file hosting site that ALSO had his notes. I went to the site, and WHAM! I FINALLY got to download his notes, after a long and frustrating search) ------------------------------------------------------- Rather an odyssey, eh?
  19. ...Did Horace just pull two spoilers inside a spoiler within a spoiler that's also INSIDE another spoiler?
  20. Hello everyone! I know I haven't posted in a while, so I just wanted to let you all know what I've been up to. First of all, School started up again, so that's been affecting the speed at which I work. Secondly, I've been doing thorough testing of my Gen 2 Route. Thirdly, I've mapped out the Jealousy tables for all Child characters in Gen 2, so THAT'S exciting. And finally, I've got a new FE project that I've been cooking up...the Fire Emblem Gaiden Speed Run (Normal Mode, All Characters Survive)! Yes, that's right; I wish to perform a speed run of Gaiden in order to further hype the release of it's remake! I scoured the darkest depths of the Japanese Internet (which turned out to be a much scarier place than I could have ever imagined...), found the Twitter account of the World Record holder of Normal Mode + All Survival, and ended up getting his notes! I thought I had a pretty good route before, but NOW...now it's something special. So first I'm going to stream the run in 1-2 hour chunks; then I'm going to upload the steams to Youtube (for anyone who can't watch because of Time Zone shenanigans). I am then going to make a "hybrid thread"; one that has screenshots detailing the important parts of each battle (with commentary of course). What do you all think?
  21. Time mainly; I'm not actually sure whether or not it costs more real time to do the Hel strat than normal strats, but I'm thinking it might. Enemy phases last for a really long time in FE4, so I'm not one to pass on a chance to cut a lot of that nonsense out. Besides; it's great for JUST in case you took too many turns on your AAAA Rank run. That should never happen (considering how absurdly lenient the Tactics requirement is), but...you never know. Hence, that's one way in which Altenna is minorly useful.
  22. Yeah...I never did finish that part when I was redoing it. I was getting frustrated, there were other things I wanted to do, and it didn't seem as though people were posting that much, so I dropped it. Now that someone else is using it though...well, let's see what I can crank out, shall we? My mental energies are feeling rejuvenated, and I still want others to be able to use it, so let's do this thing!
  23. Meh, that's what the Valkyrie Staff is for. And how do you propose that the Hel Mage NOT get killed by Julius if he misses?
  24. Whoa now; when did I ever say that she was good for LTC's? All I said was that she was necessary for LTC in the final chapter, IF you didn't have Sharlow. I'll admit, that was still a hyperbolic statement; but I never said she was good in LTC. She just happens to have a few uses (assuming that you're going out of your way to recruit all characters). I dont know what to tell you; I've had that Hel Mage attack other units before. But even assuming my memory is faulty (which I'm pretty sure it isn't in this case; I've been up to very extensive testing for the purposes of my LP), the Hel Mage has a very low chance of hitting Julius; and a very HIGH chance of getting killed by him. Putting Julius to sleep makes the strategy much more reliable. Because it's one of the reasons why I gave Althena a 7/10 instead of a 6/10. There are other reasons, like the ones I mentioned in my rating; but this here was one of them.
